Gotta love a NYC brunch spot that lets you and your gfs(all 7 of us) chill out for 3+ hours after eating! The $ 20 brunch special is so worth it… you get a plate of dips/pita bread to share, an entrée and coffee and juice/Bellini(or was it some other alcoholic drink… forgot which one). I ordered the burger which was generously sized but flavor wise was definitely lacking salt. This could be a good thing since too much sodium is bad for you anyway? Anyway, there was a mix up after ordering and the waitress forgot two of our meals… and also the fried eggs that we ordered with our burgers. To compensate for the inconvenience caused, they took off one of the burgers off the check(we didn’t ask) so we were pretty chuffed about that. A great addition to East Village. Quite a small space so I do recommend booking.

Took the boyfriend here for a birthday dinner! If I could give it 3 ½ stars, I would… but we did enjoy ourselves so I bumped it up. We wanted to try a bit of everything and ordered: Chinatown Salad — The boyfriend’s favorite. I thought it was a very interesting combo of flavors, and especially liked the green bean tempura. I liked it, but the bf couldn’t stop talking about it! Farro & Vegetables — My favorite. A great mix that was just delicious. I could have just ordered this and been happy. Octopus — The boyfriend had never had octopus before, but generally liked the flavors. I did think the octopus was tasty, but was expecting something a bit more interesting! East-West Duck — This felt like the opposite of the octopus. I was totally a fan of the taste profile, but the duck was just not to my liking. Boo. Kubaneh Bread — I was SOOO looking forward to this, but unfortunately our server forgot this. By the time we got her over to ask, we just thought we’d be too full to eat it. Overall, we loved the apps — and the atmosphere was lovely. The entrees were fine… and I was a bit disappointed that I never got to try the bread… and also initially got charged for it and didn’t even get an apology. Oh well. I’d totally recommend it to someone, but probably not somewhere I’d run back to.

Small and cosy spot. The biggest and best table is the round one at the back that can seat 6. Mackerel, octopus and all desserts were best. Skip the cauliflower and the overrated potted bread. Friendly service if a little patchy but overall a positive experience.

This was pretty disappointing and I really wanted to write a 5 star review due to my Israeli background but they barely receive 3 stars from me. Let me begin by saying that I showed up for brunch which is a whole different menu and from what I’ve heard of, the regular menu is way better. So we showed up 6 people for lunch, very excited, my friend has been there twice before and enjoyed herself. The service was awful, it was one waitress who was completely rude and obnoxious. My friend ordered a Fatoush salad which is such a simple salad for 13 $ and it was tiny as hell, appetizer size and when we said something, they added a few more veggies and the waitress when she gave it back made a completely snarly comment that my friend did not deserve. I ordered the burger which was fine, nothing special about it, definitely not a 16 $ burger. My friend ordered a shakshuka which he said was the worst shakshuka he’s ever eaten. The entire brunch menu is uninspiring. I would not show up for brunch here for sure and maybe I’ll try the dinner menu but I was not impressed, it seems they didn’t put any creativity or flavor to the dishes we’ve had. My friends had the Sabich croissant and they liked it but I honestly expected lots more

I hard a lot of friends talking about the place I was there on Thursday night trying to eat as match as I can, the starter dish was not to bed at all bout I expect little beat more from the main dish, the bread(cabana) is very good along with the shrimp kabab. its a good place to eat spatial food at «ok“price.

Wow. Timna provided one of the most delicious meals I’ve eaten in all of NYC. The service was wonderful – table was wiped between each course, timing between courses was perfect, plenty of water and refills – the entire service staff was helpful, friendly, and not obtrusive at all. The food was outrageously tasty. First we had an amuse bouche – a creamy tzatziki with tapioca pearls and fresh herbs. Very bright and tasty. Then we had the ridiculously fluffy and puffy bread appetizer – it came with a crushed tomato dip and heavenly smooth labeneh. Very enjoyable! We also had the burrata, which was cool and creamy against the toasted sourdough. Really awesome. Then we had the lamb saddle, which was impossibly tender and juicy. the lamb stock lentils were outrageous. We also had the roasted vegetables with farro, which had so many pleasant textures, colors, and flavors. We also split the cauliflower. This is not to be missed! The cauliflower itself is tender and bright, and the curried tahini is revelatory. Finally, we had mint tea with the basbousa. Once more, the combination of flavors, textures, and temperatures was delicious. All in all, I strongly recommend Timna. It was a very special meal, with so many pleasing elements. Great place for a date! Wonderful to taste so many homey Israeli flavors. Will definitely return!

Excellent new place in the East Village. We came here for brunch and were really pleasantly surprised and pleased by how different and delicious the brunch menu was. The service could be a touch better(especially considering that they automatically add 20% gratuity to large parties) but the food was superb.

I’m not known for handing out accolades to restaurants underservedly but Timna was a true and pleasant surprise that over delivered on the hype that drew us to it. The flavors weren’t new to me, as an Israeli they merely took the familiar to new places and new heights… but the entire experience, the play on textures, the attention to detail and unassuming location, decore, service and experience were truly pleasing. Nir is a veritable artist who has clearly invested and opined on every bite he serves. Each dish was meticulously prepared and plated with attention. From including a few Israeli couscous pearls in the tzaziki amuse bouche… To a few grains of crunchy wild rice alongside the tahini and cauliflower, to the amazing emulsion of dark roasted eggplant with truffles and more. Highlights were the sashimi/taboule, octopus, shrimp kabobs, harira, pan-Asian salad and the phenomenal bread. No real lowlights to speak of… Perhaps a touch less date syrup on the farrow or a bit less savory(mushroom?) on the LaLa Land desert, but really that’s just splitting hairs. Get your reservations while you can and prepare for an amazing meal. Pair with the the Clos De Gat Ayalon Valley red. We did. :-)

Came here for Brunch! Cozy and cute décor. Ideal for casual dates or meet up brunch with a friend. You are literally a ear shot from the next table so intimate conversations would be out of place. Wouldn’t recommend for large party as seating is limited. Highly recommend making an reservation/you really should if you would like to avoid waiting. Scratch that, reservation is a definite. The 20pp brunch is pretty sweet deal. You get coffee, mimosa or OJ and a selection of one of the main entrée breakfast item. I went with the shakshuka. The brunch specials also comes with pita bread, hummus, beets and peppers. So much food for $ 20 bucks. Also, all of your dishes will take up all the space on your table. So be prepared to move plates around. I am usually a big eater, but I couldn’t finish everything. All the food was fresh and tasty(well seasoned). I would recommend to others to come check out Timna.

Such disappointment!!! We made reservation a week in advance for Sunday December 27th for 2:30pm to celebrate a very special day for us!!! I called to notify I will be late, I was told that I can come until 3pm– Because the kitchen will be closed at 3:30pm. We arrived to the restaurant at 2:53pm and they refused to accept us! We drove all the way from Rockaway beach Queens for nothing, we asked if they can make an exception(even though we were told the kitchen closed at 3:30pm on the phone we came before 3pm) They just refused to let us in and I’m sure that the host saw how surprised and sad we were. Good service is just as important as the quality of the restaurant food and you can never know who your client is so disrespectfully treating a client is not smart. We know for sure that I will not visit Timna! maybe we’re not that important for them but that really hurt our feelings.

My husband would give this a 2 because he wasn’t moved by the food, but for the overall experience this is a 3. I wouldn’t go far to giving this a 4.5 stars it currently has. We went for brunch and– 1. Made a reservation, waited about 10 minutes for the table 2. For brunch you get small plates, an entrée, unlimited coffee and a mimosa– the brunch plates came a while later than we ordered and 4 minutes later appears the entrée– not good timing and very annoying to fit all the plates at the table, so we stuffed ourselves rather quickly 3. Waitress wasn’t so quick to take our plates– in fact the couple that arrived after us left 30 minutes before us, and not because they were quick eaters. 5. Super small dining room– more space at the bar area it seemed. 6. Bathrooms are two and tiny. 7. Service and vibe was very hipster with some older folks and families for brunch. 8. Food — tahini was delicious, I liked the polenta and eggs, shakshuka was good but needed a bit of spice flavor. 9. I’d go back again for the $ 20 deal, but anything more than that is beyond my idea of good brunch and this was shockingly similar to Hummus Place, which it replaced.

Delicious Israeli brunch. I’ll need to come back for the dinner. I had the tomato and egg stew with steak for the main course, which was pretty good. The starter pita with all the sides was delicious as well.

This place was yummy. I came here with a friend for brunch on Saturday at 1:30…they seated us promptly, even though we were late by 10 – 15 minutes. The ambiance is cozy; the restaurant is small but busy. Service was a bit slow… but totally friendly and nice. We had the brunch special which came with freshly squeezed OJ(yummy), coffee(eh), and a bunch of small plates — Israeli hummus(lots of tahini, very loose, yummy), some kind of egg salad and cucumber dip(not a fan), yogurt and beet(yummy), roasted red pepper and garlic(yummy). Came with fluffy pita, which they do refill upon request. We both got the shahshuka which is eggs in a pureed tomato sauce… it was healthy and yummy and filling. My friend got the same but hers with steak tips. I’d come back to check out some true hard-to-find Israeli food, such as the Sabich sandwich which was done on a croissant(hard boiled egg, eggplant). I would also come back for dinner, which looked more interesting– esp. the Yemenite puffy bread. I thought this place was slightly better than Balaboosta. both are really good… portions are a little bigger too. Very reasoable brunch for $ 20 pp.

Really impressed with this new spot. Nice ambiance and very delicious, different food. We had the cauliflower, farro and vegetables, kubaneh bread, octopus and shrimp kebob. When we ordered I was not expecting much because none of the dishes sounded that new or exciting but Timna certainly proved me wrong! Everything was really Delicious and beautifully plated. The shrimp kebobs were not your standard and they were awesome. My favorite dish of the night. One thing to note is its only beer and wine. They have some wine cocktails but if your looking for a hot toddy or a dirty martini, you won’t find it here. The food is so good you won’t miss it though.

KenScale: 8.0÷10 Timna is a new Mediterranean/Israeli restaurant in East Village. I heard about this restaurant for a while, and was expecting a quiet restaurant that shows all the classic Jewish dishes before I stepped in; instead, what I encountered was a modern twist, both in the design of the dining setting and the food as well. Overall, most dishes proved to be quite satisfactory. Any meal at Timna must begin with kubaneh bread that is served with crushed tomato, labaneh and za’atar that you can dip on. The bread was great, and I had to stop nibbling at it when I realized that other foods hadn’t come in yet. Cauliflower with carrot purée, dried grapes, curry oil and puffed quinoa was also an awesome cauliflower dish that was a perfect appetizer to the meal. East-west duck that came in roasted carrot purée, soy-glazed bok choy, puffed rice and curried aioli was also a success; I was very impressed with the juicy tender meat of the duck that worked so harmoniously with puffed rice to create unique and delightful texture. There were some less satisfactory misses as well. Mediterranean sashimi of cured tuna on top of green tabouli, tzatziki and crispy beet leather looked great in plating, but it somewhat felt short of my expectations in terms of portion(too few pieces of tuna) and flavor. Bedouin octopus was well-cooked, but the portion was again an issue, especially where it was accompanied by a huge pile of grilled pickled cabbage on top of black eggplant purée and humus. For dessert, broken cremeschnitte of yuzu crème patissiere, raspberries and shredded halva was a nice finish to the meal. The restaurant has that hipster vibe of East Village with tiny and loud dining area, which was a bit surprising as I was expecting a bit more low-key atmosphere. Getting a reservation isn’t particularly challenging, but make sure you have one because the dining room is not quite big. There is a solid wine list that you can turn to for complementing your meal. Timna shows the promise of how Mediterranean/Israeli cuisine can be done right in a more modern setting and sensibility. Overall, I would recommend trying a visit here.

What a lovely experience. I don’t use the word lovely, ever, but this was just that. I brought my mother here who was visit me in NYC. I knew Tima was new to St Mark’s, and I bookmarked it a few months back on Unilocal to try. We started with a bottle of buttery Chardonnay, and the famous bread. The bread was delicious and reminded me of a croissant. The tomato and lebnah that came with it were wonderful, and I especially liked it with the thin slices jalepenos. We also chose the scallop lasagna as a starter. This was amazing. The scallops were perfectly seared. What made it a lasagna was this thick buttery noodle that ribboned between the scallops. It looked like art and tasted just as wonderful. While we waited for the main course, the waitress brought out 2 samples of their sweet potato soup. Holy shit. This was probably one of the most delicious things I have ever sampled. I watched other other tables as they tried the soup… Same reaction. Next time– I am ordering a gallon! For my main, I had the grouper. I thought this was good, but I was much more excited about the starters. My mother had the Gnocci. I thought this was delicious, but my mother enjoyed it a little less than I did because the ‘noodles’ were deep fried. We were asked to move tables so they could seat a party of 4 and promised us a complementary dessert. Although not typically asked to switch a table, I will do almost anything for a free dessert. The host asked if she could surprise us. She brought out a dessert named ‘LaLa Land’ which is a porcini crème brûlée with honey sage ice cream. She also brought out two glasses of blanc de blanc that paired perfectly. It was one of the most creative and interesting desserts I have ever tried, and truly made this meal and experience rather than just a nice dinner. Regards to the chef– I am excited to see new creations on the menu and look forward to returning!

I made a reservation for Timna because it was available and it had an interesting menu. I am so lucky because it was an amazing find. It was not packed for a Saturday but it probably will be soon because it’s so good. The beau and I got several dishes: — Shishito peppers with paprika aioli — the aioli really makes the dish pop — 5 Hour Short Rib — excellent blend of flavors — Scallop Lasagna — perfectly prepared, wonderful presentation and flavor, large, buttery tender scallops — East-West Duck — superb — Gnocchi and Goat Ricotta — original and well balanced — Chocolate Bar — perfect ending to the meal The cocktails are all wine/vermouth/bitters based but are excellent. The two I tried were fantastic. The service was attentive, classy and wonderful. There was a woman taking pictures for the Times so I’m sure this place will blow up soon. Get here while you can.

Ambience — 5, food — 5, service — 5. I came here on a date and loved every part of those two hours! The restaurant is tiny, a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, but also intimate enough for a romantic setting. We had made a reservation beforehand, so we luckily got the table right next to the open patio area. The wine selection was great. Our server made us a fantastic recommendation to pair with the seafood meal that we intended to have. For starters, we shared the Yemenite Kubabeh bread and the sashimi. The bread was served in a cute flower pot. The bread had the buttery flavor of a croissant and was just so soft and warm. We killed it in no time. The sashimi was super tasty as well! I loved how the fish was paired with a delicious tzatziki sauce and tabbouleh salad, definitely added an extra kick to the fish. For my entrée, I had the octopus, which I would highly recommend if you’re an octopus lover. It was highly infused in flavor. The serving size was not huge but I was surprisingly quite full by the end with all the food we had ordered. For desert, I had the white chocolate semifreddo. It tasted like a crème brûlée with a thicker consistency, not my absolute favorite dessert of all time but still delicious.
