Shame that the popcorn cauliflower was so poor executed, and fortunately the meal was saved by a tasty dipping sauce. -$ 5.00 $ 0.44 They recently expanded their kitchen and moved all seating upstairs, added non-Middle Eastern/non-Mediterranean items to the menu(also misspelling ‘felafel’ and removing almost all affordability in the process), and are apparently surviving on a brisk delivery business. WARNING: skip the nasty fresh pita chips with a terrible texture that they post near the door creating an illusion of generosity.

what to order at the Hummus shop? HUMMUS. i actually really enjoy it here! something about it makes it fresh & the perfect consistency free pita chips on the front counter as you decide what to order & wait for your food! the hummus plates come w/THICK whole or white pita —trio hummus: i didn’t know which was which, but they were all tasty! they also offer smoothies, sandwiches, & something i want to try called shashuka! NOTE: there’s upstairs seating, although i’ve always taken food to go! Thanks Paypal for the freebies!

They changed the layout of their store… and expanded their kitchen. FYI, seating is only available upstairs now and btw, they don’t bring the food up to you but do expect you to pay tip. They also increased the prices of the dishes… I guess due to too many people using PayPal for free food? The hummus wasn’t that impressive in my opinion. It was ok. The hot dishes were a bit better. Overall, I’d come again if I’m absolutely starving and am in the neighborhood, otherwise, there are better places to get hummus.

Best, most authentic hummus in NYC! I prefer the white pita over the whole wheat, but both are pretty good! The shakshuka rocks, and the carrot salad adds some sweet/savory spice to my life(I may need a hobby). If you think Israeli food is limited to felafel. Then come to the hummus shop for an(affordable) education. Just a heads up… As the owners are Israeli, so is the schedule, so you might not want to plan your day around picking up your meal from here. But its worth it!

I ordered the Red Chicken with Hummus and it came with Whole Wheat Pita bread. It was just delicious, lots of flavor and left me wanting more. I think the amount was not filling enough for the price I paid for it, but outside of that, I was not disappointed. The place was pretty empty for lunch, and it was a two man station when I went there. There is second floor seating if you want to eat in. Would eat there again if I was around the area, good food!

Decided to check this place out when I saw it on my PayPal app. Jose was a one man show behind the register! He took everyone’s orders, manned the phones, AND did the cooking and serving — all with the nicest smile! He’s the reason I’m bumping this to a 5 star review! I’ve been back twice now. I’ve tried the hummus with 6 fresh falafel balls(Jose doesn’t make it until you order it) and pita. Delicious, healthy, and fresh — and a very generous portion size! I’ve also tried the eggplant shakshuka which is served in the skillet with veggies in a tomato sauce with 2 poached eggs. This was good, but not as good as their hummus dish(makes sense). Hubby tried the beef sandwich which was good, but again, not as good as the hummus dishes. It’s a small shop, but it has several tables on the small, lofted second floor.

A bright spot to this place is their grilled chicken hummus. Fresh mouth-feel without the garlic lemon juice overload like other spots. The spice of the chicken and the texture and flavor of the chick pea purée meshes well together. I liked the idea that their hummus is a little under salted. Overall, this place is a good spot to drop in for a quick, healthy, bite.

Worst falafel I’ve ever had. There was more lettuce than anything. It was on a tortilla instead of pita bread. The sauce had no flavor and the falafel was tasteless. Worst thing was that it was $ 7 plus tax. The ones at the carts taste better! Maybe I’ll come back to try their hummus…

Used $ 10 credit on PayPal here today and took an order to go, but had a few bites at the small counter space they have downstairs before leaving. I ordered a small soup(lentil and split pea, $ 3.99) and a standard hummus plate($ 6.99). Lentil/split pea soup — strangest lentil and split pea soup I’ve had. It had a very strong lemon flavor to it as well as fresh cilantro. I guess it adds to the«Mediterranean» vibe? It wasn’t very hearty and was a bit too soupy for lentil soup in my opinion. Pita + hummus plate — hummus tastes pretty… well, standard… with your olive oil, paprika, etc. You get a huge one for $ 6.99. The whole wheat pita bread was really dry. I’d give Hummus Shop an A for level of service.

I kept passing this place and look at the window in the menu. I don’t tend to see many people here so I’m never quite sure if it’s any good. I guess they do a lot of take out and deliveries in the hood. I was really hungry and wanted something quick to eat so it was either this, Popeye’s, or McD’s around the corner. I opted for this since it would be the heather choice. I walked in and looked at the menu on the chalk board, the Shakshuka immediately drew my attention. I asked what it was, the sole staff said it was very good it’s 2 poached eggs on a slightly spicy tomato sauce with a choice of meat or veges. I opted for the eggplant and got a small side of hummus & pita. I only wish there was a bit more eggplant in the dish. The pita was nice and fluffy too. It came out within 10 mins in a small skillet. It had just the right amount of spice and it came with a pita for me to dip the tomato sauce in. I love eggs and the poached eggs were just a tad past runny. This was the perfect dish for me and the hummus tasted very fresh with great tasting olive oil. Sometimes I still dream about the shakshuka. I’ve never had something quite like it before anywhere else.

Roar they forgot my pita bread! A quick stop by to grab some free grubs(thanks PayPal!). Ordered the mushroom hummus and shuka hummus to take home for dinner. I initially was planning to wait on my fiancé to get home to share the platters but ended up polishing them as midnight snacks myself since he came home so late(boo work). Although the platters and(one) of the pita bread had been sitting around and left cold, they were still one of the best hummus platters I’ve ever had. Loved loved loved the tomato sauce, spices and egg over easy combo over a bed of creamy hummus and a drizzle of olive oils. The tomato sauce had a nice balance of sweetness + tartness. The whole wheat pita bread that came with the order was not your typical stale, thin ones but thick, fluffy, chewy much like a pizza crust. I regret not devouring it as soon as I got home because it must had been amazing when it was toasty!(Now you get why I’m so upset they forgot my second pita bread?!?) I wasn’t as big of a fan of the mushroom hummus since it was obvious the mushrooms were from a can and a bit oversalted for my taste. Will definitely stick to and check out other dishes with their amazing tomato sauce! Still a bit upset they forgot my bread. I actually saw them left one at the counter but didn’t say anything since I usually don’t eat the complimentary pita bread from other stores! Bummer! I guess I just have to dream of my second pillowy pita tonight

I had the 3 grain 3 white falafels(I liked those better!) with tahini sauce. I also had the beef wrap which was just ok… should’ve just gotten the hummus since that’s what this place is named after!

3.5 stars. Friendly guys work behind the counter. Comfy casual spot. Interesting artwork on the walls. Looks like they’ve recently renovated and expanded the kitchen, so now all seating is upstairs as of May. Don’t forget to pick up a loyalty punch card here. Buy 7(entrees?), get the 8th free. Sometimes they have complimentary za’tar-seasoned pita chips(thick, very crunchy, fried, and verrry oily) on the counter that you can munch on while you wait for your order. Winners: –Chicken Pita sandwich: 4 stars. Pretty good and satisfying! Comes w/chicken and hummus, and a veggie filling option. I chose the tabouli + a $ 1 add-on of Purple Baba Ghanoush. Pita pocket was filled to the max.($ 9.79 total) OK: –Chicken Hummus Wrap: Not bad! It’s the size of a Chipotle burrito. –Falafel side item: 6 balls w/tahini(?) sauce. Made fresh to order, but I’ve had better. These were a little dry. Losers: –Labane Wrap: 2 stars. Just a large wrap spread with a weak sour cream/cream cheese-like filling and some onion flavor dispersed in it.

Of course I go to a place called The Hummus Shop and I don’t even eat any hummus. Meh. To be honest I really wanted to try the shakshuka… And I was pleasantly surprised! Shakshukas are fairly tough to f**k up, yet a considerable number of people manage to do it. The Hummus Shop did a good job — I ordered the eggplant shakshuka. The dish was not soupy at all, the eggplant was well cooked and worked well with the bell peppers and poached eggs. It could have been a little more salted but it definitely had a nice kick at the end. I’m definitely want to come back and try the halloumi one! I also had a Greek salad, which was a little disappointing. I usually prefer Greek salads laden with thick cuts of tomato, cucumber and feta. This salad was mostly lettuce and the feta was grimly crumbled.

Love hummus? Well I was barely introduced to hummus and while in NYC I walked by the place and gave it a try. The portions are large and great for sharing. It is a little whole in the wall but if your not looking for a heavy experience this is the place. The service was good but could have been better. East Manhattens Vegan heaven?. Maybe, good luck Unilocalers!

Picked up a falafel salad — they went a bit overboard with the sauce(which tasted pretty good by the way). Great place to stop by if you’re hungry and want a feed under $ 10!

[CLOSEDPERMANENTLY08.22] Good food, good service, wallet-friendly prices, it’s a nice little place. Not really much more to say beyond that, but there didn’t seem to be a lot of people there when I went and there are lots of tables. I’m guessing, rather I’m hoping business picks up on nights and weekends.

I went in here for the sabich sandwich because on serious eats it looked amazing and honestly it didn’t disappoint. We also ordered the hummus mosabacha which was good, especially with the whole chickpeas. It really did add something. My friend ordered Mom’s shakshuka and I was disappointed with it. The eggs were rubbery and flavorless which kind of just made the whole dish seem like a waste. I am pretty sure I was severely overcharged for the two cans of soda we got. I saw the guy put in $ 3.99 per can in the system but didn’t say anything at the time. Now I am just annoyed about it and kind of amazed.

Not a huge fan of hummus because I dislike chickpeas and to me they taste so dry and well… tasteless. But I decided to give this place a chance because the décor was really nice inside and it was super clean and I loved the paintings of the masks on the wall. I wish I would have captured a picture or two of those. Anyhow, so I asked the cashier what he recommended I try being that it’s my first time and he suggested the beef hummus pita sandwich. So I trusted his judgement and that’s what I got! For 5.99 that pita sandwich was huge! I still have a piece of it in my fridge! The beef was I believe grounded and covered in hummus. There was a nice light sauce that added a delicious flavor. BUT I found myself dashing salt in and around my sandwich and that’s when I noticed that this sandwich needs more flavor. I generally dont put salt on food unless its needed and in this case it was. The beef didn’t seem to be seasoned nor did the hummus and the only flavor that was coming out of the sandwich was the light sauce and I think I might’ve needed a bottle of that sauce next to me. I will definitely go back to give this place a second chance, try something new and maybe ask for some more flavoring! If I find myself using an entire bottle of salt onto my sandwich than that’ll be the last of hummus for me! Another thing that annoyed me was the credit card minimum. I had to use 10 dollars in order to use my card and since I couldn’t find myself spending so much money on lunch I had to run to Bank of America to take out a 20. Luckily the bank was right on the corner, had it been any further I wouldn’t have went back. And that’s unfortunate!
