I would love to support this place more since it’s in an area with a dearth of great restaurants and because I can tell they really are trying. But sadly, the food here is not all that good. Perhaps it’s what I ordered, but on each of my two visits, the food is either over-sauced(e.g., leg of lamb) or very bland(e.g., zucchini fries.) Service was a bit inconsistent too. On our first visit, the main courses were brought out before we finished our starters. On our second visit, the drinks, food and even getting the bill were all veeeerrrrrryyyy slow. I’m sure we’ll be back since we live in the area. I’ll probably stick to something basic like a burger for the next time i go back.

We went to the Grange for Father’s Day dinner with our 3.5 year old. We will not be back. We made a reservation via open table. I should have known that things weren’t going to go well when we had to wait longer than we should have for the hostess. We ordered the grilled cheese appetizer for our daughter, asking for both the tomato and the humbolt fog on the side. We asked that it come out first along with our appetizers. We also ordered the zucchini fries and the watermelon and daikon salad. It took forever. We had to ask for it to be checked on. When it finally arrived, it had both the tomato and the other cheese in it, so of course our daughter wouldn’t eat it-precisely why I ordered it the way I did. The zucchini fries were tasteless as was the accompanying sauce, and they didn’t bring the salad. The person who brought the sandwich knew it was wrong, but still placed it on the table. The fries it came with were also tasteless. We sent the sandwich back and when they brought it back, they also brought new fries, which were much better than the first iteration. They finally brought the salad several minutes after everything else. It was delicious though, albeit a little heavy on the oil. We ordered the NY strip with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. I ordered mine medium. It arrived rare at best. They slice the steak, which I hate. It’s a way to give you less steak, which I find really irritating. I’m capable of cutting my own steak. Also, given that they sliced it, there was no excuse for the raw meat that was brought to me. It was very obviously not medium. The spinach was not creamed spinach. It was wilted spinach. That’s fine, but it’s not what the menu advertised. The potatoes were ok. The wine was good. The service poor. It’s pretty inside, but it’s very loud. Our daughter loved the jazz music. They were quite good. If it were half the price it was, I’d consider possible trying again, but it’s quite expensive and for those prices, I expect a lot more. Such a disappointing experience.

We were old crocks struggling up the hill from Hamilton Grange National Park. The rangers recommended this place. Man, were they right! Worth the climb. Not too crowded for weekday lunch. First class tap beer. Outstanding grass fed burgers. Tried the delicious fried green tomato sandwich. Relaxed vibe. Friendly staff. Jazz on weekends. Gotta try that. Adding Grange to my list of go-to UWS places.

I have gone to The Grange several times and I have enjoyed the food and service on all occasions. The Mac & Cheese is delicious! I also enjoyed the banana cheesecake with the dulce de leche and the apple turnover. Make sure to make reservations though, it gets packed easily at both the bar and the dining area

Great for brunch & dinner alike! I did their bottomless with a group of 4, and it was lovely. Friendly staff, great food selection, reasonably priced(compared to Manhattan). So nice to have this kind of place uptown. Dinner was similarly lovely, if perhaps a bit too dim — but I was with my mom, so maybe more oriented for a romantic setting. Brunch tip: the wait may be absurd, but they have ‘bar seating’ that includes high top tables, which you can usually get more quickly.

Off to a bumpy start just because we arrived during shift change. Had to wait 16 minutes for our drink order. Have to say my daughters lemonade was«off the hook dad» I asked her if it’s better than the one I make and she held back just to say yes. I tried it was not entirely in agreement but yes it was delicious. Very accommodating staff warm and friendly. As far as the food is concerned. GREAT! The chef has love! I had the Sunday only prime rib special. When it was presented to me my first thought was where is the beef just because the cut was a half inch thick and served with a roasted cipollini on top and noticed some sweet potato purée underneath the beef. Then I noticed under the beef some roasted purple and yellow carrots. The purée was too runny but held it’s shape and the carrots were undercooked but held their look of being well done. And the prime rib although thin was done perfectly. Well seasoned and medium rare as I asked. A tuff job to accomplish with thin cuts. Then i realized the chef is an artist. Accomplishing the texture extremes and flavors. The only thing that bothered me on the dish was the carrots and purée that was buried under the prime rib. Would have been nice to show case it on the plate. We order the Brussels spouts which where crisp and green. The burger was excellent and everything was presented as if each dish was it’s own work of art. My family and I will be returning for more.

So I returned with a friend again last week late around 12 or 1am approximately and despite the restaurant hopping we were not approached by one server for over 10 min. My friend had to go to the bar to order drinks and even the drinks didn’t come on time and we ordered non alcoholic. We had also ordered food and I had specifically requested items I’m allergic to be left out but somehow those were still included on the dishes despite the waitress jotting down what to leave out and checking with the kitchen. So that resulted in even longer time to get our dishes. My friend ordered the burger which he enjoyed however. But honestly — the lack of attention to customer service still appalled me.

Huge fan of this bar and eatery. Cocktails are top notch and won’t break the bank. Craft beer and great grub. Staff is always friendly and bartenders are some of the best in Hungry Ham. Been coming for about three years and it’s only improved.

This bar is too self important. If you just want dessert you have to sit in the overcrowded bar area with no server. And the bartender is solo and can’t keep up. The hostess is useless. And the dining area is empty but has servers.

At First Glance: The large floor to ceiling windows let in beautiful light, the rustic but very clean barn décor made me feel like a little piece of home was with me. Late Lunch: 3−4pm There was no wait time, seated right away. Ordered: Grass Fed Beef Burger with fries Cavatappi Pasta Cheese, Smoked Cheddar Mornay, Breadcrumbs(Gluten Free pasta) Cocktail: Harlem Mix Presentation: The very bright white dishes made me not want to touch the food. Taste: creamy, cheesy, crumbly, crunchy… the burger was flavorful, fresh and fries were salty but just perfect amount and crunchy. Service: Our waiter was prompt did not make us wait, was very friendly and knowledgeable. Overall: LOVED this place.

The Grange is my absolute favorite brunch place to go in the neighborhood! I’m always stopping by with my roommate or bringing friends to this cute little place. The staff is always so friendly and attentive, which makes me love coming here more. I’ve tried most of the items on the menu and have really liked everything so far. My favorite things on the menu are the eggs Benedict, country breakfast, and fried chicken muffin sandwich. Most of the brunch entrees come with the potato foie gras and they are so delicious! The ingredients are always so fresh and I appreciate the detail they put into plating each item. I would highly recommend this hidden gem in the neighborhood!

Stopped in here for lunch on a Saturday. It was an odd hour… around 2PM, so we thought it would be easy to get in. Luckily we got a table right away, but the place was pretty full. It’s a good looking place… nice long bar, tin tiled roof, hipster vibe, sure sign of the gentrification in the area. They offered us their brunch menu and I chose the vegetarian huevos rancheros at our servers suggestion. It arrived in a personal cast iron skillet and it was delicious. All the fresh ingredients combined perfectly together. I’d happily come back if I’m in the area.

I REALLY liked The Grange. I’d heard good things since moving to Harlem so I really wanted to check it out. The first time I tried eating here, my boyfriend and I went without a reservation at about 9pm on a Thursday and were told it would be a 45 minute wait. I’d definitely recommend a reservation if you have your heart set on this place. A couple weeks later my friend and I checked back in, assuming they’d have no tables at 8:30 on a Wednesday, but were seated right away. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Our water classes were never empty. We started with a cheese board and split a bottle of one. Wine was reasonably priced for NYC and, I mean, how can you go wrong with a cheese board? We both ended up getting the sundried tomato-pesto pasta which was amazing. They were attentive enough to honor my friend’s request for no olives in the dish — leading me to believe the food is made fresh to order. It was absolutely delicious and the perfect amount. Unfortunately, we were too stuffed to order dessert, but we will definitely be back to try it another time.

They are doing it right — I usually go to Harlem Public, but they open @ noon, & Grange opens @ 11:30am — now I know — 2 great spots for craft beer & eats up around here –

Service was good. The wine list and cocktail list was strong but the food was average. We had a kale salad to start, which was tasty but the two sandwiches left much to be desired. Both had more bread than meat. I like focaccia bread, and the bread here was actually nice and fresh, but it Completely overpowered the sandwich. The steak sandwich had four or five small strips of steak and a way over-cooked fried egg with hard yolk(yuck!). The chicken salad sandwich had small cubes of chicken and an avacado aoli but lacked flavor. Also, I found it strange that on a Thursday at lunch time the restaurant was dominated by an over 60 crowd… I don’t think it was Columbia graduation or anything. I couldn’t figure it out. Very strange. One such diner complained to me of a two hour wait for their food while we waited in the line for the restroom… Our food came out promptly but I could see them getting overwhelmed w a packed house.

Great vibe and complete surprise for a Harlem area eatery. The place would easily fit in Tribeca or Chelsea. Staff couldn’t be nicer and overall the food’s really good. They seem to be known for their beef, so I would stick to that on the menu as the chicken was a bit underwhelming. However, the lamb sliders, short rib pasta and even the deviled eggs were great. The apple turnover dessert is easily one of the best I ever had. Soft, flaky crust almost like a Krispy Kreme donut outside. Not your typical heavy doughy supermarket turnover. I would suggest two things to get me back — $ 1 oysters — or some kind of raw bar on menu, and definitely pick up the pace of the service. Although the place was crowded it’s not huge, so the fact that we had to signal a manager twice and a busboy twice is never a good feeling. But definitely worth a trip.

I came here for a friend’s birthday because it is one of very few clean, non-chain restaurants in the neighborhood. That being said, this place is relatively overpriced. It is a nice option for people who want to go out for a special occasion and have a nice meal, but definitely not a place you could afford(or would want to) visit very often. The service here was ok, but nothing to brag about. A lot of the options listed on their menu were not available that evening, and we weren’t told this until we were ordering(both of us wanted things that were not available that evening), which was more than a bit frustrating. I also hate menus that don’t clearly state what comes with plates — if a burger comes with fries, say it, don’t leave it up to my imagination or make me ask. This should be standard. They seat you way too close to other people, even when the rest of the restaurant is empty. This is not a tiny space — the tables could definitely be a little bit further away from one another, to prevent me having to hear about the love lives of my neighbors. The music was also rather loud, which I find obnoxious in a restaurant setting.

Came here last Friday night @ around 9 for a first date. It was crowded, but too crowded so we were able to grab seats at the bar. This place is probably going to be one of my favorite drink spots because they’ve got a great beer list, the bartenders are friendly, and it’s never so loud that you can’t talk. I still haven’t tried the food yet which is a bummer, but I’m sure that will change soon when I finally get up for brunch(ha). It’s gonna happen. I swear.

Visited this establishment on a Friday night around 7ish. I have walked past this place several times and always said I was going to visit. We went to grab a bite and a drink. At 7 the place was packed and so was the bar. The hostess informed us it would be a 40 min wait or we could sit along the window. We opted for that spot so we wouldn’t have to wait. I ordered a glass of Reisling that wasnt the greatest and my husband got a glass of beer. We only ordered entrees since we both weren’t extremely hungry. The menu didn’t really wow me so I inquired about the beef pasta. Our server said if you like garlic then I would enjoy it. I do enjoy garlic so I opted to try it. My husband got a burger which he enjoyed and said it was well seasoned. My pasta didn’t wow me because the taste of garlic was so overpowering. As far as the service goes it was extremely busy so I understand why our server couldn’t to us often. All in all I would give this place another try maybe for brunch.

This was my first time going to grange! Service: the waiter and his waitress in training were very polite. He let us sample the beer before ordering(always appreciated when there are 16 options you never heard of before). They brought the food out pretty quickly. Maybe a little too quickly since we weren’t finished with our appetizers before our entrees were brought out. The busboy was also a little too eager and knocked the top of my burger bun off(along with my bacon, tomato and onions) trying to clean the table. I mean I was full already but kind of pissed because I was trying my hardest to finish the meal. Whomp. Really put a damper on the great meal/experience but I won’t hold it against them(honest mistake). Food/drinks: we just missed happy hour that ended at 7. But we both enjoyed our beer. I had the cream ale and my bf had an IPA. We went a little crazy and ordered 2 appetizers: crab cake and lamb sliders(3 total). They were both very good. We each ordered burgers for entrees. He had the 35 day aged and I had the grass fed. We liked the grass fed more but it was a lot saltier. But overall the food was very good. Other tidbits: the bar was packed for happy hour. The restaurant(inside and outside) generally got packed the more we sat there. I’d definitely return to check out happy hour or to try something else off the menu.
