Sophia did my hair on short notice for an award dinner I had Friday the 18th. She always does a great job on the press and curl. Also, her demeanor is really peaceful. Sophia is the owner of the shop and is not into negative energy or giving negative experiences. So, if at anytime you feel Sophia is not right for you or your hair, just tell her. She is not into ranting and etc.

I made the grave mistake of not going to my regular hair stylist and trying to give Tear Drops of Elegance a chance. I wanted a partial weave install,(edges left out for versatility). What I received was thee worst install of my life. This woman literally traced a circle in the middle of my head and proceeded to sew down the hair. Normally my hair is able to blend well with the brand of hair I use. The install was done so that I could not wear my hair down because it looked so bad. My hair is a little past shoulder length and the length difference between my hair and the extensions was very obvious. Although Sophia was very nice, she is not someone that I would recommend to install anyone’s weave. The cleanliness of the salon was also an issue for me. Even though I paid for poor service, it was a lesson to me to always do research and ask for pictures(proof) of the stylists work. Also, if you have a hair stylist who does your hair the way you like, try not to deviate from them. AGAIN, save your money and do not go here for any install!!! I could post pictures of how it was sewn in, but I think I’ll stop here.

Erica & Sophia [Owner] made me feel welcomed as soon as I stepped in the door. I got there 10 minutes before my appointment and we got started pretty quickly. She asked me questions about my hair history and what I wanted for my installation. I really liked that she took the time to explain what she was doing and teach me about maintaining my sew-in and treating my hair with care so that I can reuse it over again. She made sure to check in on if things were to tight and not one time during the process did I feel like my natural hair wasn’t cared for(Which means everything to me). And can lay one hell of a closure. Go see Erica!

Hi well I’m new to new York and needed a hair stylist so i turned to Craigslist and found a young lady by the name iambeautyvixen later to find out her name is erica my experience with erica was great very understanding and aware of the new techniques out for hair weave extension. Erica was able to assistant me with the purchase of virgin hair. and i was very happy due to the last minute request. I was also able to get a very good discount on the hair only paying $ 160 I feel and think that was appropriate for the situation. I will definitely be returning to this salon so i can see this stylist again.

While I can’t speak to the experience the prior reviewer had with both her stylist and the job she did, please know that she is a stylist that works in the salon and as such does not set the prices nor does she own the establishment in question and in reading her review I felt she tarred the shop, because she and her stylist were not on one accord. That said, I felt that the record should be set straight on a few things. I have been going to the owner of Tear Drops for over 20 years and in the last 3 years, I’ve consistently chosen Gilda Sophia because she stands not only behind her brand but more importantly her work. I am hands down one of her most challenging clients and she delivers for me every single time, and didn’t give a hard time when more recently she had to fix someone else’s screw-up on my hair, which reminded me of why I continue to patronize her salon. ALL stylists have off days because they are human and in a 20 year relationship know that we’ve had one or two — Gilda stands by her work, if you’re unhappy she’ll fix it so you leave happy because she doesn’t do unsatisfied customers, and as such guarantees her work. If you’re looking for the cheap deal then this isn’t the right salon for you, but if you are looking for a stylist that will love, tend and maintain a healthy head of hair for you then make the commitment to a new type of lifestyle, and remember you get what you pay for. Tear Drops is a full service salon that caters to professional women of color who take the image they present to the world seriously, and if you’re reading this review then we are like-minded women. I challenge you to come in for a visit, you won’t be disappointed!

So after reading my review @Iambeautyvixen said that if I did not like my hair i was free to go back and she would take it down and give me a refund. We agreed on 5:00 on a Sunday the following day. However, at 4:45 she called me and demanded that I take down my Unilocal review otherwise she was NOT going to rectify my hair. When I told her that I was going to change it to say that she solved the problem, she proceeded to berate and insult me again, called me «a bitch, pussy and liar» and to top it all off, threatened to «use the address information on my card to come and chock me and beat my little ass or send her men to beat me up.» Its a shame that any stylist would treat their customers like this. I felt physically unsafe to return there and choose not to take down my review by force. Suffice to say, I am very disappointed in Tear Drops of Elegance and the people they choose to represent them like this stylist. I have decided to put all this out in the open so that I can warn all of you of what to expect. If you want to go through all this trouble, by all means come to this salon. Peace and God bless. I just got back from Tear Drops of Elegance and decided to write this review as a public service announcement. I figured that perhaps some good can come out of it; preventing the rest of you from being duped. Since am new to NYC, i turned to Craigslist to find a good hair dresser for a weave. There I found a lady named @Iambeautyvixen who seemed to have great pictures and charged between 100 – 130 for a weave. So i called her and made an appointment. I have the texts with me to prove it. When I got there she said that she was charging 180 then when I tried to leave everybody in the store berated and insulted me for wasting her time waiting for me. Anyways, I decided to get it done, she washes my hair and begins. I have three bundles of hair but because she did spaced out my tracks too much, she only ended up using two. My closure looks terrible and my hair is very thin. Her braid underneath my hair are even worse;so thick and big. So now I have huge tracks of hair with a very thin weave to cover it up. Anyways when it came to ring me up, she asked me for $ 209. When I asked what for, she said that the Extra $ 20 was for the wash and $ 9 was for tax. Ohh and I got there at 7PM and She finished at 11:30PM. Moral of the story here is DONOTGOHERE whatever you do. They overcharge and under deliver. Argued constantly, berate their customers and bait and switch.
