You can see my boy pulling the noodles from your seat. Noodles taste so fresh, springy and chewy. I only get the beef noodles every time(#41) which is great. Classic Chinese style it’s light but flavorful and the meat is soft too. Idk about the other choices. Got some steamed dumplings here too were pretty good as well. Overall definitely a great authentic place to eat and kind to your wallet too :)

A very small hole in the wall. Great service. Came in 3 min before they closed and they still happily served us. Food is good. Got the pan fried seafood with the wide big noodles. And a variety of beef ball soup with wonton.

This place is a hole in the wall on one of those side streets in China town that if you blink you will miss it for sure ! Anywho it’s community seating once you get in the place because there is hardly any tables as it is. The food is great, everything I could ask for in hand pulled noodles. They give you plenty for the low price of 7.00. What more could you ask for !!! I only have it 4 stars, and not 5 because this place doesn’t take credit cards. Come on it’s 2016, not everyone cash and carries.

I was in the mood for some noodles. Being it was very hot outside I opted against soup. I got the panfried knife puled noodle. Shrimp beef and chicken were good but the noodle itself was really delicious. Quite starchy, but delicious. I also got the pan fried chicken dumplings which were good.

food: house special noodle soup. the noodles were decent, but the meats tasted like leftovers. ***2/5 service: the server was nice and got my order right away. service was a bit slow. a person was waiting for nearly 20 minutes for a bowl of noodles to go. it took me a while to get food too. ***3/5 value: not that great for me. maybe it’s the dumplings people keeping raving about, which i did not get to try. however, based on the stuff i ate, not very impressed. ***2/5

Well, I’m giving it 4 stars. I’m rating the review based on the food, which I feel was 4 stars. The Venue/Décor It’s a small place(about 24 seats in total) and is really a place to eat and not«dine.» Truthfully, I almost didn’t walk in because it looked really rough around the edges and really small. Definitely a no frills place. It has various steel and Formica tables, styrofoam water cups, plastic water pitchers atop each table(you pour your own water), and chop sticks(no forks that I saw). Definitely not the place to bring a date that you want to impress. The Food My soup was enjoyable and it was fresh. I would have liked more protein in the soup. The Service They took my order, brought the food, and brought the check. They didn’t ask how it was nor did they bring a pitcher of tea(I noticed others had tea). And there were no oranges or fortune cookies brought with the check.

The noodles and dumplings here were really good, but it was nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary I haven’t tried elsewhere. Having passed by Tasty quite a few times I always wanted to try it, but with the amount of options in Chinatown it’s always been hard to get to every«good» restaurant. I came here on a Thursday afternoon at about 12:30 and the tiny restaurant you can say was pretty much packed. There’s only a few tables inside so packed is a relative term to the amount of space they have available. Half of therestaurant is dedicated to the kitchen, while the other half for dining. Our group sat down and I immediately noticed that half of the dining area was filled with tourists and the other half were locals. Although there were many options on the menu, we all ordered the #1 House Special Noodle Soup(Beef, Tendon, Tripe, Ox Tail and Fried Egg) because it had the most ingredients. In addition, we ordered an appetizer of boiled dumplings. The dumplings were good and were filled with meat, but there was nothing there that ‘Wowed’ me. As for the noodles, same there. The noodles were spot on good, but it did lack an abundance of the proteins. There were bits here and there, but not a lot. Tasty made for a good quick meal and, as with most Chinatown fare, it was cheap! Nothing here will differentiate it from other noodle restaurants, but the food is solid still. Also, the restaurant is CASHONLY, so make sure you hit up the bank prior to sitting down!

This place is located inside an alleyway and was a bit difficult to find. The inside is pretty small and not the best kept. When we were seated, the workers were still cleaning the floor and didn’t even ask me to move my feet… it was a bit rude but they make up for it with their food. The table we were at also had someone else’s half drunken snapple bottle. I ordered the #1 house noodles which is with hand made noodle called«dao xiao mian» which means cut with knife. There was PLENTY of noodle in there so be prepared to eat! The broth was super delicious and I added hot sauce to it which made it even better. The meat in it wasn’t too fatty and was super good too. We also ordered a serving of the pork potstickers to share and it was pretty darn good! This tasted very homemade and you can tell it’s very authentic.

I was really excited to try this place out because I am always down for handmade noodles. However, when I got here the staff was rude to us immediately. We were a party of 12 and we asked if they had available tables. The first lady straight up said no in a rude manner. The second lady was really nice and accomodating. She said there are bigger tables in the basement and asked if its okay if we sat down there. We were super hungry so we were willing to take whatevere there was. We waited 15 minutes for the table. We sat down in the basement and the first lady literaly just threw the menus onto the table and walked away. This was her second strike, but wait, there’s more. Throughout our meal, she was consistently rude to us, slamming down our bowl of noodles and plates of dumplings onto our table, giving us our tea 30 minutes after we asked her to refill it, and even pushed one of my friends as we left because we were in her way apparently. The first few times of her rudeness was fine and we let it slip by, but the push at the end is completely unnecessary and made us feel really uncomfortable being there. I don’t understand how someone working in the restaurant business can behave like this. I understand that this chinatown, but I really don’t expect service to be this bad. Although the food was good, it was quite lacking in flavor. The dumplings tasted really homemade, but not restaurant quality to be honest. It was good but nothing memorable. I ordered the roast pork hand pulled regular noodles because it looked great from the picture — however, it was not like the pictures to my disappointment. Besides from the mediocre food, the prices are great. The restaurant is really small and cramped. I probably wouldn’t be back here again because there are way more restaurants in Chinatown that offer the same price.

Food is delicious. I had the mixed beef knife peeled noodles soup. Comes with lots of veggies and a good helping of beef. Fresh cilantro available on the table which is a nice touch. Service is eh but you really come for the food. Cash only.

The name of this place says it all. A no frills, hole-in-the-wall place where every dish is an average of $ 7 – 8. If you come here you must order a noodle soup or pan-fried noodle dish. There is every type of noodle imaginable: skinny rice, knife peeled, regular rice, regular hand pulled, fat hand pulled, small wide hand pulled, big wide hand pulled. On a cold day my comfort food is beef noodle soup. The flavorful broth, tender beef and perfectly cooked noodles hit the spot after a long day of touristing. I saw the guy in the kitchen freshly make and pull each batch. He was a noodle making machine trying to keep up with all the orders. Note: This place is a tiny joint where if you’re hungry enough you’re willing to share a table with others. Service is quick, almost-abrupt, but is forgiven because maybe it’s the language barrier. Food is too legit to quit that you don’t mind all these inconveniences that you usually avoid. I’m willing to book a plane ticket and fly cross-country to come back and dine at this establishment. Or maybe request an apprenticeship in noodle pulling.

I spent a year living in Hong Kong a few years ago and I loved the food here so when I moved to NYC, I had to try out some restaurants in Chinatown. I searched Unilocal and this was No. 1 so came here the first time I had the chance. I was going in with high hopes and this place definitely met expectations. No nonsense, tasty and inexpensive food. Also, very large dish sizes, what’s not to like? Firstly, if you’re expecting a fancy restaurant with top-notch service, this is not the place for you. I came with my brother who has not travelled that much and when we entered, he wanted to turn around and leave! It’s small, not pretty and not the cleanest if I’m honest. But that’s the whole point! It’s not trying to be anything else! It really catches the vibe of a local restaurant from China which I love. I eventually persuaded my brother to stay and we had a seat. Our server gave us menus and there were fully-stocked water and tea jugs in the middle of the table. The menu is great. There are a large array of noodle and rice dishes with various types of meats and fish you can add. We started off with chicken and vegetable spring rolls and we both ordered the same main course of chicken and shrimp noodles. After taking one bite of a spring roll, my brother completely changed his tune about the place. It really summed this place up for me. Great food is the most important and everything afterwards is all smoke and mirrors. We devoured the spring rolls and the main course came quickly thereafter. Absolutely delicious and at first I thought the portions looked small but I was stuffed after it! Overall, I loved this place! My brother changed his views after he tasted the food. This is a serious case of don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Looks hideous once you walk in but wait until you have the food which is the most important! It really gives a great vibe that you are in a local Chinese restaurant from my experiences too which I was delighted with! Highly recommended and I will return soon for sure!

Been fighting off a bad case of noodle craving for the last couple days. Finally caved and decided to drive all the way here to try this place out based on all the other reviews. Have to admit I was a bit hesitant at first since the reviews were not consistent. Ordered the house special hand pulled pan noodles, an order of pan fried pork dumplings, and a bowl of Fuzhou fish balls.(Yes. Everything was completely demolished. I was that hungry…) Have to say that everything was much better than expected. The noodles was seasoned right and has a good chewy texture. It was easy to tell that the dumplings were fresh made on premise. Only downside is that seating is a bit limited, and that they are cash only. However, considering the price point and quality, I think it’s a fair compromise. Will definitely be back if I’m ever around the area again.

No frills, hole in the wall joint. There’s a few rickety tables, with a few rickety chairs for dine in service. The food is served pretty fast. The menu is pretty extensive, with the different types of noodle dishes you can order. I tried the beef noodle soup, as a craving for it led me here. I also shared the pork dumplings. The noodles tasted fresh and it did a good job of exemplifying the tasty hand pulled noodles store name. The broth was also quite tasty as well. The beef I wasn’t that impressed with. It tasted a little old, like it had been sitting around for a while. The dumplings were decent, but not the best I’ve had. I didn’t think it quite measured up to the old Prosperity dumplings or the Vanessas dumplings in taste or crispiness.

I have mixed feelings about this place. Every now and then, I crave tasty hand-pulled noodles but whenever I finally get to eating it, I always leave a little, sorry to say, underwhelmed. I love the knife-peeled noodles. It is always my go –to because I just love the thickness and chewy texture it gives. I, for the most part, get #1 house special noodle soup that comes with ox tail, beef tendon, tripe, and a super fried egg. All the individual components are great but the overall taste of the soup leaves me craving for more spice, more seasoning, more something that makes it more memorable. I love to add their chili sauce and cilantro but it still doesn’t give me the punch I want. I don’t know what it is. It’s good, but it just isn’t great in my noodle soup book. As for their pan-fried noodles, I have never really been a fan. Again, a lackluster in taste. The texture and quality of the noodle is there, just everything else is average. Overall, great noodles, average in execution. In a few years, I foresee myself craving it again, imagining it for what it could be, but for now, my stomach will be craving other goodies in Chinatown.

Came here on a super cold day to get some noodles. I ordered the beef pan fried noodles and thought it was just okay. The noodles are thinner than I imagined. I regret not getting the knife cut noodles, those looked like they’d be better and chewier. Also the flavor was on the sweet side — not my thing. I also had some of my boyfriend’s duck noodle soup which I liked a lot better. The soup was tasty and rich with duck fat but the noodles themselves didn’t soak up that much flavor. They did give a generous amount of duck, so for under $ 9 it was a great deal. Dumplings were yummy — thin skin and lots of veggies in the filling. I personally prefer thicker skinned, meatier dumplings especially if they’re fried. Overall this place was very mediocre and I believe that in Chinatown you can get much better food at even cheaper prices. Probably won’t come back but glad I tried it.

Hole in the wall with legit Shanghai hand pulled noodles. I love hole in the wall spots because first I’m Chinese so the gritty-ness doesn’t bother me and second it’s usually an indication of real deal homemade Chinese food. I had the beef stew with regular hand pulled noodles. The noodles were plentiful and chewy the way hand pulled noodles should taste. The broth was just right, wasn’t too salty. The beef stew didn’t contain that much meat so next time I would probably get a different type but overall everything was good. I also got a take out order of the steamed pork dumplings which didn’t have much flavor to them so I’d probably try the fried ones next time

I was in need of some noodles. I met Mr. Joy in Chinatown to try Tasty Hand-Pulled Noodles. As I navigated my way there, I don’t know why Google Maps kept telling me the restaurant was closed when they clearly were not. This is a rather small restaurant with just a few tables. They only accept cash. This did not deter me, because some of the best food comes from even smaller hole-in-the-wall establishments that also do not accept cards. I ordered the … #1 House Special Noodle Soup with oxtail, beef tendon, tripe, beef, fried egg($ 8.50) I chose the hand pulled regular noodles and boy were there a lot of noodles. Oxtail was okay, but pretty dry. Beef tendon was good, springy & gelatinous. The beef was also good, nice and juicy. The fried egg was… a fried egg. Considering everything that was floating around in this bowl, I was actually disappointed that it lacked flavor. It wasn’t completely bland, but the broth was just watery and lacked taste. Roast Duck Noodle Soup($ 7.75) This was a slightly more flavorful option, since the duck fat bleeds into the soup, but still not much more flavor. It wasn’t as much flavor as we wanted. Also, I usually find that roast duck in soup is made with leftover duck, when the meat has shrunken. The duck legs still had some meat on them, so that was good. Maybe if I had chosen one of the fried noodle dishes, I would have left feeling more satisfied.

So here’s the story, I knew I was going to Apotheke on a Saturday night but hadn’t been in the area before. I wanted to make sure I was familiar with the location so I wouldn’t be completely lost getting here during the night. While making a right onto Doyer, I stumbled upon Tasty Hand-Pulled Noodles with a small line of asians & non-asians out the door! I thought to myself this small hole-in-the wall has to be good if there’s a line… Later that night I came back to get a quick dinner to-go and the place was still PACKED. I got the duck pulled noodles to go and it took only about 10 minutes for them to whip up my dinner and for me to be on my way. I get that the food is affordable(under $ 10) …but a lot of the food is very affordable in Chinatown. Everywhere you turn are dishes under $ 10! The noodles tasted good, but you could tell that it was made in a huge batch(or pans weren’t being washed in between cooking the noodles and oil kept accumulating) and the noodles were greasy. I felt a little sick knowing every bite I took was covered in oil. The more I got towards the bottom, the more I saw pools of grease and I couldn’t finish the dish. The duck was also covered in oil, and had more skin(fat) than meat which was a huge disappointment. Will I be back? Nah… I’ll try another noodle shop in Chinatown. *Tip: Get your food to-go! I’m surprised anyone manages to get a seat in here…
