My personal favorite place in NYC for a bahn mi! Bread is crunch but still soft on the inside. They give generous amonts of pickled carrots ANDRADISH, cucumber, cilantro. which is must have in my book. I love the #1(traditional) and #4(grilled pork) sandwiches. They offer it spicy(w/jalepenos) or not. The spicy isn’t overly spicy, just the perfect amont for my mod spicy taste. They are reasonably priced at $ 4.50.

Sometimes you feel like a sandwich but not quite a deli sandwich and then you need to hit up the bahn mi place. It’s cheap, has a variety of sandwiches/noodles/rolls — chicken, pork, pâté, and even sardine. Each sandwich comes with shredded pickled sweet veggies, cucumbers and cilantro. Yes, there’s not that much meat and sometimes the bread is overly toasted but people its $ 4.50, no tax! There’s also phở and spring rolls, and some curry dish with bread but considering that numerous Vietnamese places who serve better versions of these dishes are just around the block, I’d stick with the bahn mi. There are many numerous flavored and colored bubble teas as well. Even a bahn mi and bubble combo for those who are so inclined. Overall, it’s fast, efficient and cheap — great lunch spot.

I had a little too high expectation again. Everyone seems to say that they have really good banh mi. So on a Sunday before shopping, I had no extra energy to walk to Grand Street(Banh Mi Saigon). So I came here and ordered the #1, which is vietnamese Sandwich. The bread was pretty good but a little over toasted. Is ok. The meat was pretty much a bunch of ham with most of the fats. and some sardine which had a weird smell. I usually dislike wasting food but I had to throw some away because I can’t stand the smell. Maybe I should give a try on something else. at least this place has a place to sit and it’s clean.

Yummy, tasty and cheap banh mi. Fast service. Great flavors in the pickle salad you get with the banh mi. Spicy is not really spicy so if you like heat, ask for extra spicy. My fave so far for sardine banh mi. The bread here is exceptional, toasted just so that it is pefectly crispy outside and soft and tender inside.

Thien Huong is bright and colorful. Some walls are bright green and other walls are bright orange. There are 7 tables in the restaurant. There is one small counter by the window where you can stand and eat. There are funky light fixtures and colorful light bulbs. The place looks a little sparse because there is space and could use several more tables but don’t let that detract you from the food. You place your order in the back, large counter. They serve Vietnamese sandwiches(bahn mi), bubble tea and various other Vietnamese inspired dishes. I had the grilled chicken bahn mi(Vietnamese sandwich) for $ 4.50 and it was really delicious. I can taste the flavors on the grill meat like pepper, fish sauce and sugar. There was cilantro stuffed inside the bahn mih and a special sauce on the bread. The bread is nice, warm and crusty, a baguette that has been stuffed with only goodness. I asked for spicy and didn’t see any chilies and there was only a slight kick, nothing dangerously hot. Some will argue that there is not enough heat, but it was good enough for me. There were thin slivered pickled carrots and daikon. The bread was crisped up, nice and toasty warm and had good bread to filling ratio. I had filling with every bite even to the tip of the sandwich, which was truly amazing. There is a lunch special for $ 6.39 where you get a bahn mi sandwich and a choice of bubble tea. For a tasty, affordable, warm toasty sandwich stop by Thien Huong where service is pretty fast and friendly.

After reading Holly T. review, I opted for Goi Thit Nuong(grilled pork salad) $ 4.50. Like she said, it’s perfect for lunch! It’s light and not heavy. The crispy lettuce was covered with interesting toppings, peanuts, fresh cilantro and white scrambled egg. The egg looked like cottage cheese. Mixing all together with a sweet Nuoc Cham and enjoy with a tasty grilled pork was a perfect light summer dish. Smoothy was way too sweet for me. i had to stop at one fourth.

This place never fails to astound me! I’ve eaten here for lunch a couple more times and truly enjoyed it. A big salad and a big sandwich and a drink and feeling completely satisfied and full afterwards for just $ 10? YES! And what’s best is that the quality of the food is consistently great every time. K and I came here and I got the banh mi dac biet — the baguette was nicely toasted. YUMS! I got the Taro Bubble Tea — The girl said this was their most popular drink, I like Taro, but not made from Taro Powder. I should have got some other flavour. Oh wells, but love the bread. I wish they would put Sriracha out for customers. I want to come back to order other things. YUMS!

This has quickly become one of favorite spots to grab a quick lunch for under $ 5. I’ve had the summer rolls, grilled chicken salad, grilled pork salad, mixed meats sandwich, and the grilled pork sandwich. The summer rolls are decent, and filling enough to satisfy your lunch appetite. The peanut sauce is a little watery, but for $ 3.50, I can’t really complain. The sandwiches are huge for what you pay($ 4.50 each), and they’re pretty yummy. The winners in my eyes, though, are the salads — and I’m not a salad eater. These are the kind of salads I could eat every single day, even though the main greens are plain old iceberg lettuce. They’re dressed up, however, with meat that’s glazed and grilled to perfection, crushed peanuts, shredded carrots, tomatoes, parsley or cilantro(I forget which, but it adds a nice kick), scrambled egg whites, and a cup of clear orange dressing(the kind that usually comes with Vietnamese porkchop over rice dishes). Each of the items I’ve mentioned is under $ 5. Easy on the wallet AND the palate.

I met a friend here for lunch today. She is a foodie and I trust her instincts completely. When she says let’s try it, I know it is good. According to her, this is the banh mi place in town. Wow, a pretty bold statement, but I believe her. Unfortunately, I don’t eat meat anymore and from my veggie banh mi, I can’t judge. What I can say is that the baguette was toasted to perfection. What really makes a banh mi sandwich is the baguette. You screw that up, and well, you might as well close shop and collect unemployment. This place doesn’t have many options for vegetarians, so be prepared to eat a banh mi stuffed with cucumbers, pickled carrots/radishes and cilantro. I didn’t get the mayo either. There was nothing wrong with the banh mi I had, but some tofu would have been nice. I guess they are authentic, so don’t hope for tofu or tempeh. My friend had the sardine banh mi and said it was decent. Not what she was expecting, but still good. And the prices are really good here. A veggie banh mi and a diet coke came to $ 4.50. You just can’t beat that…

It was nearly empty when we walked in on Sunday night. The smell that hit my nose was not one of fresh bread, but Lysol cleaning fluid as the staff mopped the floor. Apprehension immediately hit — — a Vietnamese place that cared more about its A hygiene rating than its food? One bite of the #4 grilled pork banh mi put my mind at ease. Crisp, chewy, french bread, encasing sweet marinated pork, pickled carrots and daikon. The thing could have used a bit more cilantro(which in my mind, makes banh mi… well, banh mi) but overall this is the one of the best banh mi that $ 4.50 will buy you. Stay away from the spring rolls — — they’re too much noodle and not enough basil, causing it to lack the fresh kick of traditional spring rolls. The shrimp are also tiny. Just stick with the #4.

Yum! This place has been around forever. It predates the phở and banh mi craze. The pork bun is so good. The meat is smoky and almost charred. Actually, I love all the bun dishes, but especially pork, shrimp and the bun cha gio. As can be imagined, the pork chop is also good. They do special things to meat.

And so continues my quest for the best banh mi in Manhattan. I ordered the #4 pork sandwich. It came on a crispy baguette with pork slices that were also crispy. I wish there was more pork and that it was spicier, but it definitely had a tasty and sweet marinade that made it worth the price of admission. I heard a microwave beep in background at some point, but I’m not sure if it involved my sandwich(if it did, I didn’t taste the difference!) This place also has more than a few dozen drink options, including multitudes of bubble tea. I had the black bubble tea with milk, which was very good, but not very hot. It also came in a flimsy plastic cup but it was still a good complement to my meal. They also have a second food menu with more than just sandwiches too. There’s Phở and rice dishes for carry-out or eating in. They also do free delivery for $ 15+ orders, but it’s cash only. The décor is also excellent; it’s clean, well lit, and very inviting. So far, it’s definitely one of the best experiences in my banh mi journeys!

I had a Vietnamese Meatball Baguette, #5. Sooooooo delicious. The meatballs were big and juicy, baguette was stuffed with plenty of pickled carrots, daikon, cucumber, cilantro and scallion. The bread was perfectly toasted. I also ordered an avocado shake with my meal. It was thicky creamy and yummy. I can’t wait to go back to try the ham, meat, pork roll and pâté baguette(#1).

Litter brother told me about this place. Was skeptical at first, but WOWZERS, taste difference compared to Paris Sandwich(113 Mott St) was way better. Selection of foods fall short, but that’s obvious that it’s a smaller place, therefore, you get a better focus and specialty towards an area of a food. VERY cheap. 4 dollars for a sandwich for lunch? Of good quality? That’s love right there. The waits for your food may be a little annoying(5 – 15 minutes), but that’s because the ingredients are prepared FRESH, and everything’s made on the spot, not premade and ready to heat up when you come. Thus, explaining the taste difference & warmth in the crispy bread. GOTTA be the best viet sandwich place in chinatown.

Bahn Mi for $ 4? how can you say no to that? I love the way they toast the baguette. It’s crispy and it’s not as hard to chew compare to other viet sandwich places. Some baguettes really make me feel like I’m pulling my teeth out but this place got it right. Yeah, the décor is tacky but it’s more of a take-out place rather than table service. My favorite is the bbq pork. Overall, it’s great for lunch-cheap and fulfilling.

I love Bahn Mi in general, and Thien Huong does theirs fairly well — it’s definitely not the best I’ve ever had, but also there’s absolutely nothing wrong with ‘em. Basically, it’s reasonably priced, guilt-free comfort food. The bread is crunchy and flaky, almost like a cracker, but warm and moist, not dry or chewy — there’s no need to worry whatsoever about the top of your mouth being damaged… The sandwich includes a hearty portion of cucumber, a minimal amount of mayonnaise, a lot of fresh cilantro, and a generous helping of shaved carrots and radish, which are, thankfully, neither too sweet or salty, nor too vinegary or watery… So far I’ve tried the Grilled Pork(which was good), the Sardine(which was great), and the Meatball(which was fantastic) — all of them were tender and well seasoned — not at all too greasy or fatty. The also sell platters with various meats over rice(thus far I’ve only tried the Pork Chop with Shredded Pork and Crabmeat Patty, which was fairly decent), quite a few different types of Milkshakes, Bubble Teas, and Slushes(the Salted Plum is unbelievably good!), and soups(which I haven’t tried yet — but am looking forward to the Crabmeat and Tomato).

A much needed Banh Mi establishment south of Canal St. It is cheap($ 4) and very good. I always get the grilled chicken Banh Mi. It comes with plenty of big chicken chunks and what I particularly like is the abundance of pickled vegetables(radish and carrots). And the bread is warm and toasty. So glad that this place opened up!
