I was looking for cheap but satisfying food after a workout when I remember that there was a dumpling restaurant near Columbus park. I went in, ordered #1 pork and chives pan seared dumplings($ 1.25 for 5 dumplings), paid and left in under 2mins. Gotta love the quick efficient manner of the lady at the register. I know I negated my workout by eating dumplings, but man were they delicious! The meat was juicy and very flavorful while the outer wrapper layer was seared to crispness. Vinegar and diluted Sriracha is on the tables, but the dumplings didn’t really need those extra additions. There’s seating inside the restaurant or you can get it to go and eat outside in the park.

Albert Einstein supposedly defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results. Call me crazy then. Because every time I eat potentially juicy pork-filled dough, usually in the form of a dumpling, I bite right into it, without any thought to dribbling. And I’ve got the grease-stained clothing to prove it: This time around, I gleefully chomped down on a Pork and Cabbage — stuffed Pancake. And yes, dribbling ensued. But I’ll be damned if that filling wasn’t some of the richest, most porktastic in Chinatown. Pancake was a bit too thick and doughy tasting; a vehicle really for the delicious filling. Though for $ 1.50, I wasn’t complaining. Pro Tip #1: Avoid ordering one of these during peak times. We waited about 20 minutes for our order of four albeit freshly made Pancakes at about 1:00 on a weekday, with a line stretching out the door. Seems to be a popular spot for lunchers from nearby City Hall and jury duty escapees. Pro Tip #2: These are bigger and more filling than you would imagine. One is probably more than enough, especially if you are planning to graze your way through Chinatown. Pro Tip #3: On a beautiful day, take your order to-go and enjoy across the street at Columbus Park. Grab a spot on a bench and if you’re anything like me, you can dribble to your heart’s content.

Is it just me or there is a strict No Talking policy between the time you order and after? It’s strictly a pointing game so you better have your fingers ready, y’all. Also, please consider carrying Diet Snapple products so I can preach about being health conscious while scarfing down 25 reasonable priced dumplings fried in oil. The food is good, but it’s the masses of young children that make me reminiscent of a deeply troubled /wasted youth. ROTTENKIDS.

Extremely great value! 25 cents per dumpling, fried or boiled(rougly)! The only downside is that they are made Beijing style, which apparently is with a thick skin which makes them feel like buns. Either way, it’s very filling and delicious. Also, water bottles are $ 1 which is OK. At least they don’t scalp that shizz and charge $ 2 or something.

Five dumplings for $ 1.25 enough said. But you get what you pay for. The place is dirty, the food isn’t the best, and the people are rude. But for me all that is negated when you consider that nothing on the menu is more than $ 5 or so. If you don’t mind a little dirty Chinese food, this is for you. If your a PF Changs kinda person, steer clear. Also they cater to law enforcement in the area often, which is always important if you’re one like me and are skeptical about random places in the city.

Tasty Dumpling holds a spot near and dear to my heart. There are many weeknights that I have been in the area looking for a quick meal. From the fried dumplings, to boiled dumplings, to soup, and lo mein, you are guaranteed a fulfilling fix from Tasty Dumpling and at an affordable/cheap price($ 4 for 6 big dumplings!?). My go-to is the Vegetable Boiled Dumplings. The owners and servers are delightful. The clientele is random, from high schoolers to cops to couples. I usually stop in for pick up but if you stay in to sit you can get a pleasant view of Columbus Park and the residential neighborhood.

Convenient location, near the courthouse for getting a quick dumpling fix. I am definitely not a dumpling connoisseur but the vegetable dumplings were pretty OK. They are boiled not fried and you get a serving of 8 for $ 3.50. Can’t beat that!

If I could give zero stars, I would. This review Is based on the service, not the food because the service was so shit, I don’t think I’m going to even try the food. I went in with the intentions of purchasing a bottle of Snapple as I wait for family members. There was one worker behind the counter literally doing NOTHING, one other worker cleaning the tables, and one other worker busy talking to friends. All these workers sees me and does not ring me up at all. I’m standing at the counter for 5 – 10 minutes with the bottle of Snapple on the counter and money in my hand. The worker behind the counter just stood there and went to the bathroom after 5 minutes. At this point, I’m annoyed and decided to just leave. This is when the worker cleaning the tables is finally done and approaching the counter and watched me in confusion as I put back the bottle of Snapple. I get that you’re cleaning and it’s your job but i know you saw me waiting, so you should’ve rang me up since your coworkers aren’t doing shit to help me. If you want shitty service with cheap food, then this is your place. In my opinion, You should just save your money for a real meal with better service than this shitty as place. I wouldn’t recommend this place even if my life depend on it. Sorry for the language, but I’m still pretty annoyed because of the service /treatment I got here.

Like the name implies, these dumplings are pretty tasty. If you order the fried dumplings, they have a heated batch already cooked and waiting for customers to buy. The chive and pork dumplings are delicious. They have a generous amount of filling and are quick to receive customers and get their order. All oily but hey, how often do you get a chance to eat this all for under $ 5? I would definitely come back. It makes for a great cheap and easy lunch. There’s a few tables in case you want to sit down, eat and go.

Not too bad of a place for dumplings. I’d say 2.5 stars. We came at night so they were out of the fried variety. We ordered the boiled pork and chives ones instead. The skin was thick and there was more fat than meat in the filling and barely any chives. I prefer dumplings with lots of vegetables in the filling, so this was one was kind of disappointing. You couldn’t taste the chives at all. Maybe the fried ones are better. The scallion pancake had a weird spongy texture like it soaked up way too much oil. The dumplings are definitely cheap and better than the other dumpling store around the corner on Mosco St. They also do bulk orders if you need to order for parties. You can order day of 20 min. ahead of time.

5 dumplings here for $ 1.25. How annoying to have that quarter on you, or else you’ll have a pocket of jingling change! I took my Chinatown food touring friends here to see what exactly is the hype of this place, if at all, and finally put the debate to bed. Here’s what you’ll experience in less than three sentences: Quick service of already made variety of dumplings; not very crispy crust you’d hope for a fried dumpling. Although they are stuffed much more generously than you would expect, they were belly bombs! The sweet and yet misleading dough is thicker than usual, leaving you feeling bloated and regretful not too long afterwards. Moral of the story: You’ll most likely come back here if you are walking around with that quarter.

Meh — pulled noodles w/veggies. Not good, not bad — nothing memorable. I tried my friend’s fishcake — also meh. skip it(if you are vegetarian or pescatarian).

Came here around 1pm, seems like they always have a lunch rush, so there were a lot of people in line. For something like dumplings, though, I would think the line moves really fast. Though the ordering/paying line moves fast, the wait afterwards is pretty long/inconsistent. Now, what do I mean by inconsistent… sometimes, if your order only involves potstickers, she gives it to you right away. If your order includes another dish, or the boiled dumplings, be prepared to wait a good 10 – 15 minutes. Sounds like a short wait, but in such a cramped area where there are a million people waiting, that is a pretty long time to be waiting on dumplings, especially since that’s THE thing they make there. They have a couple of tables to eat in if you’d like to do that. The lady takes your order on their paper menus and proceeds to put it behind her so the kitchen can read and fill the orders. They don’t give you a number though(which would make things so much easier!!!), so you’ll just have to keep an eye out and hopefully no one else ordered the same exact items as you. They also run out of things pretty damn fast. Crazy. They didn’t even have any frozen dumplings left. How is this possible :’(. I ordered one chives/pork potstickers(5 — $ 1.25), and one cabbage/pork boiled dumplings(10 — $ 3.50). When I opened the containers, the potstickers were nowhere near the doneness they needed to be — the bottom should be crispy and golden brown all over. It was barely crispy, and only about half of each was browned. It actually made the skin tougher rather than light/crispy. I know it’s a lunch rush, but they need to be able to plan ahead and still make it properly! It IS super cheap though, so keep that in mind. I would be OK with eating this if I wanted to save a lot of money/eat a quick lunch. I would think they would have gotten the efficiency down by now :(.

I usually get frozen dumplings from another place but it was cold and I was too lazy to go far so when I passed this place, I took a chance and got a pack of 50 for $ 9 of pork and chives frozen dumplings. I noticed that this place was always somewhat crowded with customers whenever I passed by so thought why not. It can’t be that bad. I am happy to report these dumplings are delicious and a dollar cheaper from what I usually get! The dumpling skin was nice and firm with a slight chew to the bite. The pork was super juicy. I noticed on their menu there were tons of other frozen dumpling choices as well. I def will be returning for more when I devour my 50.

* CASHONLY * 5 dumplings for $ 1.25 Dumplings are not that flavorful on their own but with some hot sauce it is not that bad. Speaking of hot sauce, they’re placed out in siracha bottles but definitely not siracha; too watery and definitely homemade The skin of the dumplings is thick so it fills you up faster. Definitely a cheap eats spot

We were here to try the five fried dumplings for $ 1.25. They are fried ahead and kept on the stove in a huge frying pan. They wren’t bad and were served to us in less than 30 seconds. Where can you have lunch for two for $ 2.50.

Super quick. Super cheap. Hole in the wall place so don’t expect much. Would be nicer if this place is cleaner. Tasty? Yes. Outstanding? Meh. The skins are more on the thicker side but tasty. However the dumplings are wayyy too oily. The fillings are pretty good but questionable. The Sriracha sauce is also questionable because it’s way too watery compare to the legit ones.

With so many more upper echelon dumpling joints at comparable(and even cheaper) prices, a trip to Tasty Dumpling may seem questionable given that the joint is probably coming off the bench. Deficiencies include(more) noticeably watered down hot sauce and black vinegar/soy sauce available for customer consumption, thicker skins on the signature pork dumplings, and not very crispy dumpling skin. Luckily, the dumpling filling lived up to the joint’s namesake, as it was indeed«tasty.» A feat even more impressive when the sauce combo of hot and vinegar-y proved to be nothing more than a thin veil of flavor. During the time of my visit, the joint wasn’t as bustling as its competing dumpling providers, though there was a consistent and steady stream of clientele coming in and out for simple orders. Orders were as plain as an order(or two) of dumplings, or a heftier/more complicated soup or noodle dish(this place does have quite a robust menu FYI). In addition, the dining space is comparably sizable to its dumpling counterparts, and one shouldn’t find it too difficult to acquire seating space. So, is a tasty dumpling filling and easily obtained seating enough to drag this joint from the dregs of a woefully satisfactory 3-star rating to a monumentally superior 4-star review??? The answer is a resounding no; however, Tasty Dumpling has a trick up it’s sleeve, an ace in the hole if you will. The secret weapon of this place is its pork & cabbage pancake. Whereas I got my dumplings a split second after ordering them, my pancake took almost 10 minutes to be served to me. While the wait had me thinking that my order had been lost in the ether, the(probable) reality is that the cook in the back was putting a little TLC into the manufacturing of the menu item I ordered off of a whim. The pancake had a crispy exterior that my dumplings sorely lacked, it was piping hot with juices running out after I had bit into it, and it was tasty as hell. The pancake alone was worth going in for a visit, and the pancake alone has secured a return trip from me.

The five stars for Tasty Dumpling is based solely on their dumplings, not the service or what the restaurant looks like(though it is an upgrade from the location that they use to be in). We took a trip into the city Saturday afternoon to get them, because I’ve been dying to have Tasty Dumpling again. I got two orders of the chives & pork fried dumplings for $ 2.50. They were just made, so they were fresh. For $ 2.50 I ate lunch and satisfied my Tatsy Dumpling craving, win win situation.
