This is one of my favorites spots in China town. The food is delicious! I never had curry before and the waitress and waiter took their time explaining the menu to my friend and I, made swell recommendations, were super friendly and down to earth and attentive. I tipped my tuition expense because I never had such amazing service. The spot is super cozy and chill, perfect to catch up with a friend. I had the curry chicken with dry noodle and Asian pancake and I was in love! The meat is tender, the curry is so flavorful and it’s smoky and spicy but not uncomfortable spicy. It’s a delicious spicy. The noodles were delicious and went well with the sauce. The Asian pancakes were amazing as well! When we were finished, they gave us complimentary mango slices to cleanse our pallets and stomach! I LOVE this place! Recommend 10 out of 10!

I was ravenous when I came upon this place. The waitress was warm, funny and very helpful. I ordered a curry chicken dish with noodles. You have the option to choose what type of noodle you want which is great, because I love the flat rice noodle kind. They also had that crispy roti canai, which was delicious. I’m heading to here again after work right now. Wonderful place to satisfy a curry craving.

Run, don’t walk to this hidden gem! During certain hours of the day, Mama’s Eatery turns into one of the best Malaysian restaurants, turning out some amazing curry dishes. I came here on a Saturday afternoon, right when the Curry pop up shop started. The place was almost entirely empty, and were greeted by a lovely waitress from Malaysian that shares some great insight of the menu. I ordered the asian salad and curry veggie noodle soup. The salad had a nice crunch with a sweet and sour taste. The waitress served it with a side of sirarcha, and it was a great compliment to the salad. On to the noodle soup… this is one of the best dishes I’ve ever eaten. I was blown away by this soup. The broth is so rich and creamy, I could eat this for every single meal for the rest of my life. The great thing, is you can mix your type of noodle! I thought this was an awesome idea to create more texture! Highly recommend, and plan to come back ASAP!

I really like this cozy curry nighttime pop-up. My boyfriend and I always get the same thing because it’s just finger-licking delicious. Curry chicken — so good Curry beef — so tender Sides: Asian pancake or white rice(we get both) Customer service — The waitress we had oh she was great! P. s. sometimes they give complementary desserts or fruits after your meal. :)

Located inside Mama’s Eatery, the food and service here was on point! It is a bare restaurant with a family owned flair. The waiter was so alarmed when we ordered three entrees for two people. With bewildered eyes, he told us it is going to be a lot of food. After assuring him we were fattys who can eat, he placed our order. We came on 3/18, first day they introduced the curry spare ribs($ 11) so we had to order it. The spare ribs were fall off the bone delicious and plenty of them for that price! It also came with super crispy chip like potatoes. My favorite dish out of the three was the curry seafood noodle soup with mei fun($ 9), very flavorful and plenty of seafood. The curry chicken dry noodle($ 7) with ho fun fell a little flat, the extra bowl of curry sauce really saved the dish. The jello that came at the end of the meal was on point! So refreshing after all the curry we consumed. That’s right, we killed the 3 entrees between two people(for under $ 30). No regrets. I can’t wait to come back and try the other items!

Summary: Great Traditional Malaysia Food. Just ask the server what to order if you’re not sure. A little odd to call it a pop-up given that that it’s inside another restaurant. Atmosphere: This is classic no frills Chinatown. Mama’s Eatery is clean but not really trying too hard. Service: I loved our waitress/main person that is there to serve. She is from Penang and can tell you exactly what you should get if you’re confused. I always ask the question, «What will I be sad about if I don’t get it.» She knew the answer and was right. Food: Roti: It’s always good. slightly different here, so go ahead and get it Chicken Curry Dry noodles — this is great. Get this and just ask her which noodles go with it best. Laksa… Same thing. Get the soup and then ask for the best noodle. Final note… They care a lot about people having a good experience, so you need only ask what would make one’s tummy happiest and you shall receive.

I was surprised by this amazing pop up joint. I wish I found it sooner. If you like spicy malaysian style curry noodles, then you would love this place. you can choose mix 2 of the 3 types of noodles(mei fun, lo mein, or ho fun). They have curry noodles with seafood, chicken, mixed veggies, take your pick. I loved my curry noodles soup with mixed veggies– it was filled with okra, delicious tofu, tasty spring beans as well as eggplant. I even added on a hard boiled egg that complimented the whole dish perfectly. The soup was spicy and perfect for a cold winter’s night. I hope it stays around longer(despite the fact of being a pop up) because it is DELICIOUS with excellent food. They even surprised us with tasty jello treats for dessert. The staff was helpful and explained everything on the menu. They also have a curry beef and curry chicken rice dish if noodle is not your thing. This is one of the top new york cheap eats and definitely a MUSTTRY! I want to come here every night.

The menu for this place is quite small, but the food is excellent. I’m not normally a fan of noodles, and I’m especially wary of broth since I’m vegetarian, but this place had a delicious vegetarian curry broth, which I had with lo mein and vegetables. The veggies are fresh and cooked perfectly. The vegetarian broth is seasoned well, and is not to spicy. The noodles are neither overcooked nor undercooked. The server was also very friendly. One of my friends wanted more green vegetables in her dish, and the server was happy to help her out. She was also present when we needed her without being overbearing. The place is small, and I believe it only takes cash, but it’s worth a visit. However, be cautioned that by the end of the day, they may have run out of vegetarian broth(I got the last bowl of it the night I went). It’s also very reasonably priced, especially considering how good and fresh the food is.

Service was great but food was kind of bland. Came here for a quick dinner with friends around 7:30. There were a couple other parties, but other than that it was pretty empty. Lots of seating and it doesn’t feel dirty here. I got the shredded chicken dry noodle with lo mein. It really just tasted like soy sauce on the noodles topped with shredded chicken. Two of my friends got the curry chicken dry noodle with mei fun. They thought the flavor was pretty bland but the chicken was cooked well. My other friend who got the curry seafood noodle soup enjoyed hers the most out of us, so that seems to be the winning dish. The waitress/owner was really nice and asked how everything was going. One of our friends came late so we ordered for her. She was nice enough to bring a plate to cover the dish so it’d stay warm.

I have no idea why this place has 4.5 stars on Unilocal but then I scrolled down to read the other reviews and they all seem to be written by ‘users’ who have only reviewed once. Sounds very suspicious and not an organic review so I hope Unilocal does flag these as they do not lead to an accurate depiction of the food or establishment. I came here with friends expecting the best beef rendang and Roti canai but was severely disappointed. Sure, the prices are cheap but there has to be something wrong if your customers can’t even go through half the dish. We ordered the beef rendang and dried noodle with curry chicken and potato. The rendang was terrible. Lack of flavor and the cuts of meat they used were completely inappropriate for rendang(think small slices opposed to cubes which fall apart from tenderness which is the way it should be). The dried noodle was only slightly better but too much sauce was poured over it and it wasn’t spicy enough. The server gave us complimentary jelly at the end of the meal which was a nice gesture. He then proceeded to ask how the meal was and I said I was disappointed and explained the reasoning behind why the food didn’t come up to my standards. To which he replies, verbatim ‘Well, you get what you pay for.’ — um, excuse me?! Who speaks to a customer like that? He was basically super awkward and then asked for our names and when we would be coming back there… the answer would be never.

At first I considered this to be my «poor man’s ramen.» You know what I’m talking about — warm, slurpy, soupy. But then again, it’s not… — Much cheaper. $ 7 for a bowl. — More flavor. I love shio and tonkatsu and stuff, but really I love curry more. — Hole in the wall. Nothing precious about it, but service was really down to Earth. I’m recommending this place because it can use the business. No hype. Dining here isn’t a special event. It’s everyday and it’s inclusive.

Hurry and catch this popup gem before it is too late! We heard about this little spot from friends and decided to check it out — Wow! We are so glad that we did! They have a small, very limited menu, but I think that allows them to excel. They make curry, and they make curry well! They have a few other options and the waitress was incredibly nice and helpful. She explained that we could create our own dish from combining anything that we saw on the menu, but we went with their bread and butter dishes and were so pleased!

Come early since they tend to run out of things the later it is. We came around 7.30pm on a Saturday, I say what?! Anyhow, the lady was being really nice about it and accommodating of our requests. I had the dry curry noodle with their special, stuffed veggie with fish paste. Really good and they managed to give me a little bit of leftover curry soup. I will get that again. We also shared the beef curry, pretty much beef rending with canai bread. Also very good. Also can order with rice. They don’t serve alcohol and maybe need to work on supply management a bit more but I can see myself coming back, hopefully to their permanent location.

I’m a fan of Mama Eatery so it was exciting to see a pop up restaurant share the space here. Asian Spicy Curry has been launched since April 2015, the servers at Mama Eatery have no idea how long it will stay, but I’d say it’s worth checking out before its too late. I walked in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised with the food, ambiance and prices. My dinner over came out to be no more than 17 bucks including tip and tax and I even went home with left overs! This is rare to find in a sit down restaurant in NYC, you’re only able to get this kind of price at a no frills/hole-in-a-wall type of place. Yet, when I walked in, the place was empty(probably because it was 40 minutes to closing time) and the whole restaurant was lit up with candles. It almost felt like I had a romantic dinner with my date all to ourselves. He even joked that he booked the whole spot just for us. The menu is pretty simple, there’s 4 choices of noodles and 2 choices of curry. He got the Curry Beef with asian pancakes. I got the curry seafood noodle soup with mei fun and ho fun. When our dishes came we were surprised to find that it was pretty much Malaysian food! I recommend choosing your spice level carefully, I told them to make it a little bit spicy and I actually found it to be a bit too high. The food was quite flavorful, savory and definitely authentic to Malaysian cuisine. I found out later from my server that the chefs were Malaysian and she was Malaysian herself! They should call this Malaysian Spicy Curry Pop-up instead haha. I really liked the broth that came in the Seafood Curry noodle soup, it was rich, creamy and had hints of coconut in it. The Curry Beef was tender and soft with the asian pancake aka roti canai. Both dishes were great but if I had to choose I’d go for the seafood curry noodle soup because the flavors were bursting in that dish. After our meal, they gave us free vanilla ice cream because it was so hot outside that day. I’m not sure what it is, but nearly all Malaysian restaurants always give free dessert at the end of the meal(might be a cultural thing). This just proves that it’s run by Malaysians. I gotta say this might be the new spot I’d go to when I crave for Malaysian food. Plus when each dish is no more than 7 bucks that can’t be beat.

This noodle pop-up at Mama Eatery has been open for about 3 months and serves really cheap Malay inspired dishes. My husband and I got the spicy curry seafood noodle soup, curry chicken dry noodles, and pancakes side order. The soup($ 7) was pretty much a buttery version of a laksa and the chicken($ 6) was a more Chinese rendition of chicken rendang. You can choose up to 2 types of noodles(choices are Lo Mein, Ho Fun, and Mei Fun). The pancakes($ 2) are mini roti canais and you can get the chicken curry sauce for $ 1 for a very affordable snack. Seafood noodle soup: the soup was excellent with a punch of flavor in every bite. For $ 7 it definitely scratches my laksa itch without breaking the bank(and there aren’t many places in the city that serve laksa). The seafood was squid, shrimp, and imitation crab none of which were really exciting but I wasn’t really banking on the seafood for the price. If you want amazing seafood in your laksa, pay double the price and head down to Aux Epices. Chicken noodles: chicken was perfectly cooked thigh meat coated in Malay curry over a noodle of Lo Mein sitting on top of a soy sauce based sauce. They give you extra curry to mix in or dip in but we chose to mix the two sauces. The result was a fusion sauce with depth and it somehow worked. The pancakes were delicious but a bit small. Definitely not something you can eat alone but to top up the noodles it was perfect. The service was what really made the place special. The staff are incredibly friendly and polite, always making sure we had everything we needed. They even gave us complimentary brownies at the end of the meal which were on the lighter side(non-fudgey) and paired perfectly with the whip cream. Before we knew it we had scarfed down the brownies on top of everything else we ate. We couldn’t be any happier for a meal less than $ 20. We will definitely be back when we have the laksa itch.

I’ve had everything on the menu and I love everything. It tastes like home! If you’re a fan of Malaysian or Singaporean style curry definitely come eat here! And if you’re not sure, try it out anyway, because the prices are a steal. My favorite is the curry chicken dry noodle with lo mein. The yellow chicken curry goes amazingly well with the sweet soy sauce, chili oil, and crunchy fried garlic that they mix into the noodles. Be sure to try the beef curry as well. The waitstaff are all very friendly too, and the restaurant always has a warm homelike feeling.
