Attended a social, work-event in the downstairs area. Great spot for after-work drinks that has a solidly downtown feel in the midst of midtown chaos. — cocktails were awesome(loved the ‘Footloose’) — food was above par(the chicken wings were actually some of the best I’ve ever had. Crispy, crunchy, juicy, great sauce with a little bit of a kick)

Wish I had known about this place when I worked in the area — really terrific. Great beer list(didn’t try the cocktails but all looked good) and pleasant staff. Food also great — only had the Thai deviled eggs and the radish Caesar but both were excellent. For a very touristy area this is a great choice.

Fun, low key bar with dim light of to hang out in. Good spot for casual nightlife.

Tanner Smiths was an unexpected great place. Delicious menu(had the hangar steak), plenty of space, great barman and friendly co-owner Andrew who checked on our experience. Wide range of great cocktails, wine and whisky. Definitely need to go back.

1 drink cost me $ 20 dollars. I’m exaggerating. It cost $ 19 but I like to round up. God that just hurts my soul. Granted I had whiskey, and damn good whisky I might add, but damn. There are 3 types of bars in my opinion. I’m also not a bar connoisseur so I’m probably totally off. But again, my opinion. So you have the upscale/trendy bars, the mid-scale bar and your dives. I prefer dives. Drinks are cheap, crowd has character(read shady). This bar is what I would call upscale. Only young professionals with money to burn need apply, drinks for outrageous prices and a fancy menu. The group I came with loves this place. They come here often and even host a few private events here throughout the year. They also say the food and mixed drinks are great. I stuck to whisky. This place was packed on a Thursday night. Obviously. We were stuck by the door and it was freezing. Eventually we were able to move in a little. There are few options in the immediate area which would explain the crowd. I must say, despite the crowd, it did not take me too long to get a drink. The bartenders were good. My favorite of the two was the one that filled my glass to the top. Thanks guy. At the end of our night, one of the bartenders bought my group a round. I missed out on it. I will no doubt return. This place is steps away from where I work and my experience wasn’t awful.

My wife and I came here on an extremely cold Tuesday night and to our surprise, this place was completely packed. We did however manage to snag a table. We ordered two cocktails off the menu… One was an interpretation of a whiskey sour and the other was an interpretation of a gin fizz… Both were OK… Tasted like there were loads of artificial flavor a in them. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing? For dinner we got an order of the eggplant chips, the siracha honey wings and a lamb burger with mozzarella cheese and fries, The Eggplant chips — never had anything like it before! They’re thin, lightly breaded and crispy! The accompanying sauce tasted a bit too much like raw honey, I would’ve preferred something with a bit of a kick… this is a MUST order regardless. The siracha honey wings — incredible! They were crispy and finished off on the grill. Great taste, decent amount of heat but very balanced. The lamb burger was great! The brioche bun and crisp veggies along side with it sealed the deal. I ordered it medium and it came to me perfect. The side of Frieda that it came with reminded me of McDonalds Fries(which I’ve always loved). My only«real» complaint about this restaurant is that I didn’t bring two or three additional friends with me so we didn’t have to throw away our remaining fries and eggplant chips. The portions here are HUGE.

Went Saturday evening for the first time for dinner and drinks, and wasn’t disappointed! From the décor/ambiance to the food and drinks, everything was great! I got the matador, duck confit spring rolls, grilled shrimp tacos, and beef sliders. If the main floor is crowded you can always check out the basement with more seats and a full bar. This place gets really busy and loud later in the evening, so come early if you’d like to dine in peace.

Great friendly bartender. Cozy bar with excellent service. We ordered the fish and chips which came with fries and coleslaw. Holy cow the fish was huge and delicious and the fries were fried to perfect and the coleslaw was yummy too! Actually one plate could feed 2 people. Awesome Irish pub!

I live around the corner from this place and have been several times. It seems to be a little confused as to whether it is a tourist trap or a local hangout. Food is a little inconsistent when it comes to quality. Service isn’t bad and the décor is great but they definitely need a happy hour to get locals.

My fiancé and his coworkers really enjoy Tanner Smiths(they say the food is reasonably priced and great for the area) and drink there often, but the times I’ve been there, I’ve found Tanner Smiths to just be A-OK(though I haven’t eaten there yet), hence, the 3 star rating for now.

Thanks to Unilocal I was able to find this great cocktail bar while taking a day trip to NYC. The bar was crowded but I immediately noticed how attentive the bartender was. It took me a while to decide on a drink but the bartender kept coming over to see if I was ready. I ended up ordering The Swizzle which is their take on a Dark and Stormy. This drink includes rum, lime juice, lemon jam, ginger Q beer. It wasn’t my favorite flavors but the cocktail itself was very good. I can appreciate a good cocktail and this was well made. My drink was $ 14, but it’s NYC, what do you expect? The crowd was a mix of people from their twenties to thirties. I would definitely come back and have another cocktail.

Flights were overbooked on Christmas this year, so I volunteered my seat on my Newark to San Diego leg in exchange for flight, hotel, and meal vouchers, which gave the opportunity to take a day trip to NYC. I met one of my oldest friends at Tanner Smith’s on her suggestion. The bartender chatted with us just enough to improve our time there and made some mean drinks. I had the warm cider with bourbon, which was perfect for a winter day in NYC. My friend had a vodka cucumber drink that was light and tasty. We split the buffalo chicken rolls, which were sliced so that they were easy to eat and had some good flavor. I would certainly frequent this bar if I lived in NYC.

We came here on a Sunday for dinner during a day trip to NY. We were prompty seated, the first place we sat the light was incredibly dim, they moved us to another seat that would allow us to actually see the menus without needing a flashlight :-) I ordered the Brussel Sprout Hash salad, very unique. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I enjoyed it, could have used a little more seasoning but I would order it again and will try to duplicate it at home. It was chopped brussel spouts with potoatoes, 2 friend eggs on top with a side of crème fraîche. My fella had burger and fries, he enjoyed it. For dessert we shared upsidedown blueberrie cake, we were unsrue what to expect but it was delicious. They were 3 mini bundt style cakes with fresh cream on the side. I recommend this restaurant.

I came here on a Sunday night when it was relatively quiet. I can imagine it gets quite busy during the week. Had I not come here to meet a friend I’d probably have passed it and not realized what a great place it was. The drinks were great and service was very friendly and attentive. There’s a decent selection of beers. Tanner Smiths has the neighborhood bar feeling yet is very welcoming. We had nachos and some appetizers and were pleased with both. It is, however a bit pricey. The tab for three of us came to $ 80.

The Unilocal universe is correct — Tanner Smiths is an amazing find for a great cocktail in Midtown West /Hell’s Kitchen. Cool atmosphere, often with live music, chill bartenders and waitresses and tasty yet strong drinks make this an amazing find. Came here on a Sunday evening and was pleasantly surprised to find a great live band playing in the front. My friend and I were hoping to catch up over a few drinks so our hostess led us to a table towards the back that was far enough away from the band that we could hear ourselves think and talk but could still enjoy the band in the background. It was tough picking out a drink as they all looked good but I chose the Footloose. The Footloose was fantastic. It’s made with Vodka, house made cucumber syrup, elderflower liqueur, celery bitters, lime juice, fresh basil, black pepper and was an elegant balance of herbacious and sweet notes. I easily could have drank it like juice but could feel the underlying alcohol so tried to restrain myself. It was also very pretty to look at, served in a martini glass topped with a fresh basil leaf and ground peppercorns. Yum. My friend went with a classic Moscow Mule which was served very chilled in a copper mug and had just the right amount of tangy ginger bite to compliment the sweetness. Both were delicious and after 2 rounds we were definitely feeling the buzz. I can’t wait to come back and try other cocktail creations! Bonus points for our attentive but not pushy waitress.

Feel like this is the only bar in this area. SOPACKED. Probably took me about 20 minutes to get a drink. Filled with people coming in after work, feel like there were a lot of small corporate parties happening with food/drink deals. Good place to try out in that area– definitely crowded, somewhat hard to grab a seat if you want one. Drinks aren’t badly priced 6 – 13 depending on beer, cocktails and wine. Food isn’t bad either– saw some people order some good looking sliders & fries.

Food is delicious and nice after work crowd. The bartender behind the bar, not so friendly and very slow service. My friends sat at the bar for food and drinks. We ordered the pizza, egg rolls and cheese dip. An order of fries came out with the food so we thought that was part of our order. We started eating it, the bartender came by and said we didn’t order and took the plate of fries right from our hand, after the fact we said to leave it and we’ll pay for it. She took it over to the next table and delivered the order which was unbelievable. I know you are busy but where are your customer service skills and you should not of served the fries to other table! I liked coming here after work for drinks and recommended to a good amount of coworkers but you’ve lost my business after this stunt.

Trendy ass bar! It’s got a cool prohibition/speakeasy vibe to it. Their cocktails are smokey and wispy and on the pricey side. But this is made up by their moderately priced food! They have great specials like a $ 5 white wine allllllll night. All. Night. It’s everything I dreamed Wednesdays would be!

Extremely busy bar, but the food and cocktails are great! The service was slow though. They have a wonderful cocktail list, and of course we ordered The ‘Drop’ Kick Mule $ 13. It was super sweet, but a delicious cocktail. I had the Midnight Moonshine $ 13 which I looooooooooooooved. We shared a nachos with the beef, it was stringy cheese, thick, and loaded with meat. So very good! And the skewers were light and yummy. Definitely a cool bar!

Definitely My Midtown West favorite stop, a few nice cocktail drinks of which my favorite is Brown Eye’d Girl, some Beef Burger Sliders and Dumplings is all you need for cocktail hour with a group of friends. Service is attentive, lighting is perfectly comfortable and décor is Stylish with a focus on the Prohibition Era but very nicely appointed. Come On By…
