The first & second time I went to Talay was about 2yrs ago the place was still decent & I enjoyed myself. Now I have been told that they are under new new management & everyone from the bouncers to the lady in the bathroom are jerks. Their definition of classy & upscale is TRASHY. The promoters hold absolutely no weight. The manager is never around and if you are willing to «buy a bottle for $ 300(4ppl per bottle) than you are guarantee to get in. Talay is located in Harlem NOT downtown & its far from being consider UPSCALE. Do not waste your time dealing with such fools & go else where.

Went there last night. Friend of mine was hosting an Indie Soul concert. OK sooo After the owner agreed on a Valet price for this event of $ 10 bucks, Myself and others were totally disappointed when Valets were asking for $ 20. Needless to say some were lucky enough to find parking close by on the street. So we get inside and found that there was a MANDATORY coat check charging $ 4/coat, which was located next to the unisex bathroom. Yes, nickel and diming us b4 we even made it up the long flight of stairs to the event. What, the handicapped can’t enjoy a nice concert too. sans the stairs? Not that I’m handicapped but advocating isn’t a bad idea right? The Upstairs wasn’t that impressive as the statues that guarded the outside, or the water lighted water wall or even even the masks that adorned the brick walls… Just one huge room with a bunch of small tables & chairs, and couches strewn about oh yeah and a so called VIP area and I need not comment about the stage, the comedian said he felt like he was in someone’s yard on old step. You get the visual. Oh yeah did I mention the over priced bowl of fried calimari $ 14 and the Tombstone like pizza $ 18 – 20. They may have sold 3. The event I attended was great and I would definitely support my friend again just as long as as he doesn’t EVER host it at this place Especially, after my friend shared how the so called Managers tried to Manhandle him because he did not meet their required bar guarantee. If ure really too silly to heed the warnings about this place then u better make sure u either meet the bar guarantee or have a bunch of goons ready to take on their wanna be goons. Their overpriced drinks made if quite difficult to meet the guarantee… totally understand the drink minimums at other events. My friend signed a contract with THEOWNER(who by the way was conveniently out of town this week). She had his liscense info, credit card info, adress info, job info, blood type, etc. My friend had basically used his cc to finance this event and had made sure he had at least $ 1500 set aside just in case the bar guarantee wasn’t met. Why then was it necessary at the end of the event for the staff to surround him tell him he wasn’t leaving until they«got their money» even threatening to take his car. This was after he charged the remaining $ 1500 on his card leaving a balance of $ 400 that he was contractually obligated to pay even if he left the building. My friend did everything he was suppose to do and made good on giving them their remaining $ 400 by the end of the week. Unfortunately their unprofessionalism and street like tactics caused him to have to borrow from one of the invitees because he wasn’t sure what this deranged group of so called professionals, would do to him. WHODOESTHAT!!! If ure crazy enough to book this place then ure crazy enough to get what ever negativity they throw ure way because that’s exactly what you’ll get for ure money here.

This place is terrible! Doors open at 11, ladies are supposed to be free till midnight but they make you stand in line outside until midnight(we arrived at 11:15 with a short line). Security is a bit overboard because after the guy fondled my nuts they made me remove my shoes(shoe bomb check; I have no idea). They also have no standard for the dress code because it seemed like the place had more street thugs than guys in shirts and ties. Too many with jeans, sneakers and baseball caps! Entrance was $ 20 each and they had two floors of music. We went to second floor and it was dead! By 1:30am the place was almost empty. The music itself was absolutely terrible, they played a mixed CD most of the night then about 2am DJ Rick Roc or something showed up with his laptop to «mix» some tunes but his sound setup was just as terrible as the CD being played. There was no use of an equalizer so it sound like the music was blaring with a full treble setting so it made your ears ring almost instantly. To drink you had to bring your first born because mixed drinks were $ 12, a small cup of soda full of ice $ 4 and bottled water was $ 5. Me and those I went with made the best of our time but it was dreadful. I will never return to this place, though it does have the potential to be good.

Shiiiit! What can I say about Talay? Vacant area by the Hudson up in Harlem that was purchased and became two clubs/lounges/restaurant. I use to park my car by the area so I noticed them doing work. I was excited as it brings something new to the hood. It was kinda a dissapointment. Opening day they made a really big deal. I’m talking about lights and all. people came with expensive cars limos like it was that serious. Valet parking was being offered as well. Over priced for entry as well as drinks. They do have a couple floors and a rooftop but the place is type small. They fill that place up to capacity. The women are shallow as hell in this place. I guess it has nothing to do with Talay but might as well throw it out there. For the most part it’s a latin club. You’ll hear a lot of whats hot in the latin community. So don’t go expecting a little of everything. I don’t mind it but you’ll be disappointed. I was expecting more from this place. I do give it point on décor. Shit is dope.
