As far as New York bagels go, this place is just ok. A small space, always a bit chaotic, but there are a few tables which is nice. My everything bagel with cream cheese was a bit more firm than I would prefer. Cream cheese was fine, nothing special, but in typical NY fashion there was more than double the cream cheese necessary. This place is very close to my apartment which is a plus, but I’m very much looking forward to the re-opening of Ess-a-bagel!

$ 6.75 for a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich? No thanks. Oh, and they managed to miss the bacon and take about 10 minutes to make it. Not an exaggeration.

Tal Bagels are my favorite bagel. Period. Why? Because they are boiled(bagels are boiled right?) until dark and almost toasted on the outside. If they are fresh there is no need for toasting. The exterior of the bagel is hard and chewy. The inside is soft and has air pockets. Which I like — because it’s not dense and heavy. And the air pockets catch schmeary goodness. The Everything Bagels are a good mix of crunchy stuff and not tooooo salty. Overall it’s a darn perfect bagel.

Minimum $ 10 for debit card use? Who carries cash anymore? I could have maybe stomached a $ 5 minimum. With the $ 2 atm fee from next door and my bank fee tacked on, my bagel turned into a very pricey one — which I still would have been alright with had it been any good.

Fast service, tasty bagels, decent coffee. What more could you want? I got the bagel and lox and nearly died it was so good. The perfect hangover cure. A little expensive, but when isn’t salmon pricey? My one complaint: they don’t have bacon, egg, and cheese bagels. Like, what?

Excellent bagel with cream cheese. Coffee could be a little better. That is the only reason no five star.

The line out the door was a tell tale sign that this place is legit. They do have some tables(maybe 4 or 5 tables each fitting 2 – 4 people), but you may be better off getting your bagel to go to avoid the parade of people coming in and out. The menu is a solid with a diverse selection of bagels, cream cheeses, and toppings. The bagels are very good(went with the everything bagel with spicy tuna), and are really filling. The prices are typical NYC, overpriced. You do get a lot for what you pay as we were both full off of one bagel and we noticed several people sharing their bagels. The staff works quickly and is intense — shouting orders and asking you what you want. They have no time for you to sit and make up your mind so review the menu and come prepared to order.

Bagels are my favorite food, so I like to think that I’m a bit of a bagel snob. These bagels are REALLY good. Many bagel shops in NYC have been skimping lately on the amount of seasoning they give you on your bagel(poppy seeds, sesame seeds, etc.) but this place doesn’t do that. The everything bagels are delicious and they always toast them to perfection. They don’t have the largest selection of cream cheeses, but what they have is very good. My only complaint is that it’s $ 2 more to get cream cheese than butter, which is weird to me. Even if there’s a line in there, I’ve always seen it move quickly and I’m in and out in 15 minutes, which is more efficiency than I can say for most bagel places in the city.

Its ok. I only came here cuz I wanted a bagel late at night and Ess A Bagel was closed. I had an everything bagel toasted with lite vegetable cream cheese. Since I came around 8pm, the bagel didn’t taste as fresh and it was really just blah. I’ve gone to ess a bagel in the evening and somehow their bagels taste better. Not coming back here unless I have no other choice.

Had a solid, albeit pricey lox bagel with vegetable cream cheese here. It isn’t your best NYC bagel option, but considering the size with plenty of seating and quick pace that the lines moves, Tal is definitely on the list of contenders for go to bagel spots. The everything bagel I had was solid and you have quite the choice of deli side dishes as well, so if you’re in the area and don’t feel like walking much more, come check it out! Cheers!

Tal Bagels has replaced Ess-A-Bagel on 21 and 1st Ave. All I can is a Tal Bagel is a boring bagel. It has no personality. You can buy the same bagel in Des Moines Iowa. It’s no Ess-A-Bagel Uh oh!!! Ess-A– Bagel is coming back to neighborhood!!! Bye bye Tal! Your boring bagels will soon be history.

This place is the BESTINNEWYORK! Order a dozen and they give you 15! Always fresh and sometimes hot most times warm with super fast delivery service. I literally get the in 5 minutes sliced the way I want it! Great Family business supervises daily! No wonder there is always long lines. There is a reason for it.

They really do make a good bagel. Great assortment of cream cheeses, and they don’t skimp when you get a bagel with cream cheese. The prices are a little high, and the $ 10/minimum for credit cards is a bit inconvenient. The workers are usually pretty quick, although it does look a little chaotic when they’re all back there. Only think they could improve on is the customer service. If you’re from NYC, you’d just think it’s typical, but to out of towners, they can be a little short.

When I saw them hand slicing the nova lox, I knew I was in good shape. Excellent bagels, and I didn’t have to wait in line long(3 people) despite it being Saturday morning

I had a salt bagel with whitefish salad. The bagel was good, the whitefish wasn’t anything special. It was $ 9 which I don’t really understand when the whitefish salad was $ 5.50 ¼lb and a bagel is $ 1.25. There’s no way the put more than a ¼lb of whitefish on the bagel. They had some sort of salmon which was $ 6.50 ¼lb but $ 8 for the sandwich, how does that make sense? Moral of the story is that their bagels are good and their whitefish is acceptable and overpriced. I gave it 3 stars because my girlfriend really enjoyed her honey mustard tuna bagel which was $ 8.

While this place can be pricey on some items, they serve a good sandwich for a reasonable price in the city. I have heard great things about their egg salad as well. By far, the best deal you can get for your money are the sandwiches. My favorite is the pastrami on toasted french bread. Layered with toppings and a high pile of pastrami, this sandwich is two meals for $ 7.50. The croissant was flaky and light, and their cream cheese is fresh. A cute place to get breakfast, but the sandwiches here are the reason to go!

Got lox on a whole wheat everything bagel w/scallion cream cheese, capers, tomato & onion. My goodness that was delicious. The thing was HUGE with lots of lox. The most lox I have ever seen on a bagel honestly. Can’t wait to go back to the city for one!

Judging Tal’s on their bagels alone, then I think they deserve 4 stars. It’s the only place where I can consistently find a nice, hot bagel. The everything bagel is studded with small flaky salt bits which add the perfect savoriness. Add some scallion cream cheese and what’s not to love on a cold weekend morning? Service is a bit hit-or-miss, but this is really more of a place where you grab and go.
