The line was CRAZYLONG on a Sunday morning, but my-o-my, SO worth the wait! I had a pumpernickel bagel, scallion cream cheese, nova, tomatoes, onions & capers… WOW, that was G-O-O-D! And huge! My step-daughter had an oatmeal bagel with apple cinnamon cream cheese & it had actual big chunks of cinnamon apples in it! PUREHEAVEN! Mmmmm… GONOW!

Amazing Bagels sandwiches at low prices. The only thing I can critique is that they put the wrong cream cheese on my sandwich. But if all your cream cheeses are top notch I can’t really complain. Anticipate a 15min wait.

When there’s a line up you know it’s good! Hubby & I shared a nova bagel and one breakfast, and a slice of apple crumble. The nova, smoked salmon honestly wasn’t the best one I had but still pretty god though. The breakfast bagel, was deadly, warm and cheesy, just great flavors! The apple crumble was also good, it tasted fresh and homemade.

This place has some good bagels, but I can’t say it was worth the wait at all. Also, if you’re outside waiting, they may tell you it’s a 20 minute wait, but you can expect to wait at least 30 – 40 minutes. Just a heads up! This place is chaotic inside, and if you’re anti-tourist traps, then you should probably just move along. The girlfriend and I did enjoy our bagels here even though both our orders were completely wrong. Honestly, for a place that’s known for getting on top of people when they get up to order, you better get my shit right, especially after I wait in line for this long! The girl behind the counter taking our order was completely clueless to the point where she had to ask us our order about 5 times, and she couldn’t remember it each time. By the end we just said whatever and just took whatever she was giving us. While I did enjoy my everything bagel sandwich with egg and pastrami and random cream cheese I didn’t ask for, my mind wasn’t blown. Someone in line was saying that there’s not a whole lot of bagel options around the area which I find hard to believe, but what do I know? Plus, they were out of pumpernickel by about 11 am. If you’re waiting in line the owner will come out and hand you some menus, and he’ll bring out some samples as well, so that was pretty cool. Overall though, if you see a line out the door, I wouldn’t wait unless you’re really craving a bagel. Either that or get there early!

I have had a love affair with Ess-a-Bagel for most of my adult life. I have mostly frequented the former 1st Avenue location, but still come to this wonderful 3rd Avenue Bagelry. The Bagels are certainly of All-Madden size, and I have never been disappointed. There are precious few old school New York institutions left. I hope this will stay. My friend introduced me to an interesting combo of a Cinnamon Raisin Bagel with blueberry cream cheese. It was truly wonderful, but just give me my favorite – Plain Bagel with scallion cc. Oh how I love this place!

Ess-a-Bagel is one of those touristy places that serves up a mean bagel. Still on my quest to find the best NYC bagel for me, I had to come to Ess-a-Bagel. I came with my friend on a Saturday morning and arrived at around 9:15 with about a 15 minute wait to the front of the line. Not super quick service, but the art of making a delicious NYC bagel takes time! There are long lines, but come earlier and you’ll be rewarded. FOOD: The standard everything bagel, nova, cream cheese, tomato, and capers. Huge huge portions with a generous spread of cream cheese, layered with fresh nova, and then topped off with tomato and capers. Very good, but the everything bagel does have salt on it, so if you get the belly lox, I would imagine it is pretty salty! SERVICE: A little slower than one would hope, but overall, pretty good! Overall, pricier than other establishments due to its popularity among tourists. I find it on the more expensive side for what it is worth, but a mighty delicious bagel nonetheless.

Line was out the door and the cashier kept yelling close the door… It was around 40 minutes wait before we got to the front of the line. You pick your bagel, your protein, and spread. For bagel, onion bagel is popular but it had ran out literally couple people in front of me. I ordered the everything bagel and it was still delicious. For the filling, I got the smoked salmon, lettuce, tomato, and chives cream cheese on toasted bagels. It was sooooooo good!!! Was worth the wait. Side notes: There are seatings, but it’s better if you have someone from your party reserve it during the wait. If you just want bagel itself, you can skip the long line so just tell the staff in advance.

I could never imagine myself waiting outside a bagel store just for a piece of bread with cream; so decided to come early in the morning to avoid the wait. After getting the bagel I really have to admit the fact that a long wait is worthwhile… As a savory lover, I ordered the onion bagel with lite veggie cream cheese — didn’t ask for toasting as I would want to try the original flavor. Really enjoyed the crunchy feeling of the bagel crust! New Yorkers love bagels, I got the hype now.

An jedem morgen ist das wohl the Place to be in NYC.

Holy line for a bagel. The wait here was an hour on a random Monday afternoon for a chewy round of boiled dough. However, the reason for the wait time becomes clear — there is some major line inflation here. It seriously takes them 7 or 8 minutes to make a bagel, and there are times when the staff is just mulling around and no one is being helped even though the line is an hour long. They have separate lines for different things so make sure you get it straight. Entering is mostly just chaos and confusion and it’s a sad day when you find out you’ve been waiting 20 minutes in the plain bagels only line. Options are a bit confusing, but essentially all the meats you see on the placards you’ll be able to get in a bagel. They have the usual culprits for the bagels themselves, with the inclusion of salt bagels but missing egg bagels. Selection of cream cheese, lite cream cheese, and tofu/vegan spread was also good. The texture here is fine, I would say the crust is pretty thick and the bagels are pleasantly dense. One warning though — call me bland but the«salty» bagels here are almost unbearably salty. The everything bagel and the salt bagel all came with heart-stopping quantities of sodium crusted on the top. The only salmon they have is belly lox and nova lox(at least as far as I could tell). The belly lox has the nice bite with a strong cured taste — I liked it a lot more than the nova which was just the usual mild slice. Minor annoyance is that for 11 $ they are pretty light on the salmon, and pretty inconsistent — my friend got close to a half inch of cream cheese from another server while I got barely a smear. I think Ess-a-Bagel is really good, but not for the price, and especially not the insane wait. If you want great lox, Russ and Daughters has a way bigger selection of delicious cured meats, and I think Absolute Bagels has better bagels.
