We’re out-of-towers and wanted to try a new place. I’ ve jad good success with unassuming places like this. We walked in off the street and took a chance. I ordered #3, ½ lb sirloin w/baked potato and salad and I got the worse cut of beef that I’ve ever seen. Technically, it was a ¼ lb cut because half of it was gristle and inedible. Don’t bother to order to your preference, the cook knows one doneness, medium well. Pay an extra $ 1 if you want 2 slices of tomato on your lettuce and call it salad. The wife ordered ½ of rotisserie chicken w/out bbq sauce. Ding ding! It came with sauce. It took 15 minutes to warm the first order on the grill. She sent it back and we got another one in 2 – 3 minutes. The luxury of microwave. It was dry, but the steak made it taste decent. If you happen up on this place, then keep walking.

TAD’S! Times Square still has a TAD’S! Growing up in San Francisco in the late 70s, early 80s, Tad’s was a staple in the Tenderloin — a grimy disgusting old cheap steakhouse stuck between pawn shops, discount wig shops and other kind of creepy disturbing places. Tad’s was always a solid(if not good) place to get a hunk of steak, a potato, some salad and… you know what? That’s what you get there. That’s it. I frequented the place when I was in the area up to the mid 90s. It was never good, but it always felt homey. On my first trip to NYC many years ago, I saw that there was a Tad’s in Times Square and I laughed out loud — of COURSE there is one there. It finds the gross gone-to-pot area of each city and plops down like it belongs there. Years go by, Times Square has removed the gross and installed chain eateries and entertainment for kids and the last thing you’d expect to see is old crusty Tad’s… but THEREITWAS! My friend and I went in — I was kind of shocked to see a wide variety of items — you can get different cuts of steak, as well as chicken, fish, hamburger, etc. The old Tad’s in SF that I remember had like one plate. I think you could get maybe two different cuts of meat, but it wasn’t a lot of options. The other change — and this may be due to time and NYC, but I recall the old SF/TL Tad’s to be a flat $ 6.99 and this place was like $ 15.99 a plate. Still — worth it! But with all that said — it is otherwise EXACTLY how I remember it in SF. You get in line, give your order to some wild man on the grill, watch him brutalize your food, and then he slaps it on your tray and sneers at you. You move down the line, grab a drink and pay. Then you take a seat in a bizarrely decorated dining room that’s a gauche old west style series of red velveteen wallpaper with black patterns of … like… fleur-de-lys all over it. My friend and I both got the steaks — they were awesome. They were beat up grey pieces of meat that looked like they fell of a truck but they tasted awesome. Flavorful as all hell. Cooked to perfection. The potato had too much butter, which was perfect — it makes it creamy and delicious. The salad is iceberg lettuce with dressing, but it’s a good cut of lettuce and it really hit the spot. I loved being back in a Tad’s again after all these years. It also helped that just by being in one, I felt instinctively creeped out, so it helped balance out all the new-Times Square silliness. I will note that I went in to the bathroom to wash my hands and it looks unchanged from Times Square’s dirtiest days. Possibly the most disturbing part of my most recent trip to NYC.

I had dinner here last Wednesday and I really enjoyed the food. At first I wasn’t sure what to expect from a cafeteria style steak place, but I was definitely not disappointed. I had the steak and potato meal with the side of bread and salad the steak itself was delicious. It exceeded my expectations and the quality of the food was great. I enjoyed the experience while I was there and would totally like to go back!

I eat steak about once or twice a year, usually once. When I do decide to get my steak dinner, it is when I visit NYC. I treat myself to Tad’s!!! Very good steaks. You get alot for your money. The prices are very reasonable for the steaks and the fact that the location that I go to is in Times Square.

Pretty good steak meal at a reasonable price, if your not a fan of steak they do make awesome pork chops and ribs here or the casual steak burger… I do recommend coming here, your stomach and wallet won’t regret it :)

Fast food steaks?! And they were pretty darn good. If you are looking for high end or fine dining go somewhere else. If you are looking for a fast food that includes some great steaks pop in. Not disappointing at all
