Food is average to slightly above average. Prices for food are good; drinks are large, good, but expensive. Service is terrible.

I don’t know what good mexican food tastes like, but if tastes like what I had here, I want more. I am not a connoisseur of mexican food, but loved what I ate at Sole/Taco Taco/whatever this place is called. Since I have no idea what I’m talking about, I’ll keep this review short: food was excellent. Place is waaaaaaaay too loud.

Taco, Taco has delicious tacos! Unfortunately, their frozen margaritas need some work. I honestly don’t think that mine had a drop of alcohol in it and as far as I’m concerned, I didn’t order a virgin drink. I paid $ 11 for an extremely weak glass of super sweet frozen coconut drink. Also, the tacos tradicional plato, which consisted of two tacos(I chose vegetarian), and a small side of rice and refried beans didn’t come with guacamole. That’s sacrilegious! A very small cup of guac was $ 3 extra. Usually the fixings are complimentary. I have to commend them on their infamous tacos which are always extra tasty and juicy; however, their margaritas are a joke(at least the one I had). As a light weight that can’t tolerate two drinks alcoholic beverages during one sitting, that’s a big deal! After a long day of working, I was really looking forward to it. Maybe next time. Perks: Outdoor seating, great service, and complimentary tortilla chips and salsa. Downfalls: Weak margaritas and expensive guac. I’m definitely not very frugal when it comes to eating out, but at least give me what I came/paid for.

Bad, overpriced Mexican food. There’s really nothing redeeming about this place. We came here because we were starving walking down 2nd ave and somebody wanted Mexican. Bad call. 2 people some got tacos, 2 of us got burritos. My burrito was huge, but the flavor was just not right. It wasn’t inedible, but the flavors were not what you’d expect from Mexican. I can throw together much more flavorful burritos at home. The tacos were also just bad. Dry and flavor-less. We did eat a lot of chips and salsa though. Those were fine. But I think the waitress was not interested in us because we weren’t ordering drinks, appetizers, or desserts. Sorry we just shelled out $ 20 apiece for some unexciting entrees. I won’t be back. And I gave them 2 stars because maybe if you’ve never had the luxury of tasting Mexican food before, you would think this place was fine. If I had paid $ 5 for my burrito I would’ve been less upset, but still would never return.

Don’t ever eat here. It was a Thursday, the restaurant wasn’t crowded, and it took them 25 minutes to bring me my food. What a waste. The carne asada tacos were filled with fatty pieces of meat as if their chef didn’t know how to trim fat. Seriously? Even Dos Toros(which I love more than life itself, don’t get me wrong) manages to trim their meat’s fat ANDTHETACOSARECHEAPER. Ugh, Taco Taco. You suck. Go to Dos Toros instead, all day everyday.

HOTHOTHEAT! No, not the band — the taco. I ordered the Taco Taco taco with marinated pork with roasted jalopenos. It was spicy and quite tasty. It also came with a small side of rice and beans. At first, I thought there was jalopeno in my rice and I was burning up. But apparently it was the roasted jalopeno on the side of the plate. I picked it up ready for my third bite, and my friend stopped me before I made the same mistake again! Friends don’t let other friends eat spicy jalopenos. Apparently the heat is in the seeds. Note: There is a scary looking statue downstairs by the restroom so don’t be alarmed.

This place was not really very memorable. In fact, these are the things I remember: 1) My salad had a ridiculous amount of lettuce. 2) My boyfriend’s nachos were pretty good. 3) The waiter was flirting so hard with the girls at the table next to us it took him almost a half hour to pick up the check and get us change. A busboy ended up doing it for us.(He even gave the girls free shots… this was all reflected in my tip. I hope they made up for it in theirs. Although doubtful.) There are so many amazing places in the UES I can’t really see myself going back to this place again.

OMG I wish I could give this place negative stars. Here’s the low down: My brother came into town from Virginia and is a huge taco connoisseur. I live in Spanish Harlem and know of plenty of places around there but he wanted to go a bit further down so he chose this place. First off, we waited to be seated at the front hoping to get the table outside and a couple behind us just saw down there without checking in with the hostess which I thought was rude on the customers end. Second, we weren’t offered a complimentary thing of chips and salsa until we asked… TWICE. And the salsa cup was microscopic compared to the amount of chips. We ordered the Mexican style quesadillas which are described on the menu as «two large quesadillas»(we were both starving). They came out and they were like little children tacos! They were literally 4 inches big. We ate them in 2 bites and were still hungry! There was a lot of guac on the side leftover so we asked for more chips from the European waitress. I guess she didn’t understand though and she brought us FLOUR tortillas and then charged us 2 dollars for them. What the hell?! At this point we were extremely pissed and wanted to just bolt, so we asked for the bill(twice) and they brought it out. I gave her my card and she decided to tell me there was a $ 25 credit card minimum. I know this isn’t unheard of in NYC bars… but for a nice restaurant to have that high of a minimum is them just basically saying«buy one of our overpriced Mexican beers to increase your bill amount.» We asked to speak with a manager and she made an exception and I used my card. We left immediately and will NEVER ever return and will warn our friends to do so. I’m usually not so harsh but I rarely see my brother and we were looking forward to a special dinner together and we’re severely disappointing.

Website: has menu and online ordering option. Had dinner delivered from here last night. Delivery guy was pleasant and didn’t complain about walking up 3 flights of stairs. Nachos: Great flavor; not sure what we were thinking ordering nachos, since they are bound to get soggy during travel time. Regardless, flavor was good. Could have used more black beans. I would definitely order, in the restaurant, again! Queso flameado: We were intrigued by the queso that replaced chorizo with mushrooms, artichokes and corn, for a veggie option. Great flavor; however, it was a modern take on queso flameado and tasted like a veggie quesadilla, minus the tortilla. Only downside: The one container of salsa had opened and spilled all over our food, and leaked through the bag. Salsa was a total loss. :-( Looking forward to dining in house!

Victory! Some Mexican restaurants in the area have standout drinks, others offer a particularly satisfying guacamole, some are where you just want to sit down and eat your face off. At Taco Taco, you can eat, drink, and guac, and your face will be satisfied. Eat: Quesadillas(they’re enormous) and enchiladas. The empanadas are incredible, but you only get two… so save those for not-so-hungry days. Drink: Sangria is particularly delightful. Guac: Made right before your eyes and spiced to your liking. Perfection. Spend: Just right. Not so cheap that you question the ingredients(Taco Bell-style) but affordable. Fun fact: Cinco de Drinko was so jam-packed that we just got take-out and a bottle of tequila from across the street. Still awesome.

Holy Guacamole! I have been coming to this little place for years even before it was renovated. It used to look like a piñata exploded in there with all the colors, things hanging from the ceiling, on the walls, etc. It was Cinco De Mayo year round! Now it is more toned down. On weekends it can be quite busy and cramped. That being said, food here is solid. Guacamole made right at your table has a good amount of taste and zest to it. Tacos(soft and hard) and burritos(huge) are very good and will do the trick for your Mexican craving. I tried the Tortas recently which is a type of sandwich with beans, lettuce, tomato, onions, avocado, jalapenos, mayonnaise, cheese and your choice of chicken/meat and it was tasty. Other things on the menu are standard as with most Mexican places, but they also have lunch and nightly food and drink specials. Free chips and salsa on your table. I have never had delivery from here because I heard it was bad. This type of food is meant to be eaten fresh as it is served to you. I found found that most Mexican food using delivery always is just not as good, and a little cold by the time you get it. Also, they are cash only now if under $ 25 so no credit cards. Some outside seating and front is open when weather is warm and nice. Not a bad choice if craving Mexican and in the area.

Ok. I’m ready to give it up to this place. Straight up the best Mexican I’ve had in New York City. That might not be saying much to you folks from the West Coast, but it’s a lot for those of us who only know Taco Bell. I loved the Fish Tacos, Mojito, Guacamole and Margarita. Everything I’ve had here, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed.

Perhaps it was a particularly«on» night for Taco Taco, or maybe the manager adores my friend, who is a regular. Either way, I had a great experience here. Having spent the last 5 out of 6 years living in San Diego, I never thought I’d want to see a burrito again. San Diego is so steeped in Mexican culture that the go-to drunk food at 4am is a «California Burrito.» Trust me, I tried to find a decent slice of pizza and diners open past 10pm for 2 years, and finally caved. Taco Taco happens to be my friend’s favorite restaurant, so I decided to give it a try. Now I don’t know what kind of person you are, but when someone raises my expectations that high, I am inevitably disappointed. Not so with this Mexican food!!! This is the best guacamole I’ve had since returning to NYC. We got a serving for 2 and easily could’ve polished off a bowl for four. It is perfectly salty, lime-y, they don’t skimp on the cilantro, and they mash the avocados right in front of you. It is truly excellent. We ordered shredded steak enchiladas and a(giant) veggie burrito with cheese and pico de gallo. We were both in heaven. There was nothing standard about this burrito, either — the vegetables were fresh and flavorful, and even when I hit Full I had to have another bite. This may or may not have happened 3 times in a row. The service was excellent and they took really good care of us. The best part, aside from the food, may have been when our waitress came up to my friend, shook her finger in his face, and said«You’ve been a bad boy! You bring too many girls here!!!» He took it well — blushed, then admitted it, and let me make fun of him for the rest of the night. I mean, it was deserved… who takes every single girl to Taco Taco on a date??? At least he has good taste. In food. Oh, and girls.

Their burritos are consistently awesome. I really love ordering from here. Today the delivery took literally 13 minutes. They also have the best tortilla chips, with big chunks of salt, which is something I enjoy. Every time you get delivery it’s fast and the food arrives hot. So impressed with these guys. I guess it doesn’t take much to please me. All I need is decent comfort food and speedy delivery and I’m a happy camper.

¡Caramba! Taco Taco indeed plays the part it looks, unlike Tiger or Bernanke, for two very different reasons of course. The restaurant has an earthy charm that, coupled with the dim lighting and understated décor, lends it an appeal that is undeniable. Bordering on Spanish Harlem, Taco Taco is a long Northbound trek for most of us, and I must confess that I wouldn’t make the effort unless another reason brought me to the general neighborhood. Service at Taco Taco is accommodating and friendly, although I remember they messed up my vegetarian order on my first trip. The nachos are thick and crisp, and provide a stable base upon which to load the pico de gallo or guacomole, topped with japalenos and cheddar cheese. The vegetarian soft tacos and the burritos seem quite ordinary, but I quite like their plate of enchiladas. On one occasion, I tried the soup and found it to be hearty and thick – just the way I like it. Prices are appropriately raised for the UES audience. But for food that is seemingly similar to Holy California Mexican, surely Taco Taco deserves to command a premium.

Up until a week ago, Taco Taco was my favorite place to get a burrito. I’m not an expert(and I don’t think ANYONE from California is, either), but I really like their burritos. The reason they got 4 stars is because for the first time last week the messed up my order(I always ask for 5 ingredients in my burrito and ONLY those 5 should be in there), on sunday they put an egg in my burrito, and the same day I got the egg in my burrito, I had to argue my price down(it’s usually $ 13.70 and they charged me $ 14.75) based on the location of the guacamole and sour cream. I still really enjoy their burritos during the week, but I’m now going to start shopping around for a new favorite.

I’m with Helen N and Flora B on this one. The Sunnyside taco truck may be able to rival California for cheap, quality mexican food, but I have not yet been able to find any sort of sit-down restaurant that compares out here in NYC. Taco Taco is as close as I’ve ever come. The guacamole is something you absolutely must get. It is prepared table side using completely fresh ingredients and is divine. Be warned, if you like it spicy, the one spoonful of chopped jalapenos is not enough… you should ask for 2 or 3. The mole burritos are excellent, so go for that if you’re into mole. There is no equivalent of chile verde(where can I find that in NYC???) so I went with the Alambre(steak fajitas), which were excellent also. –1 for not having horchata available during the afternoon(he said it would be available later in the day). Other than that, no complaints.

Five of us went to Taco Taco for dinner during my recent NYC weekend — and I ate soooooooo muuuuuuuuch. We got a pitcher of sangria that tasted like juice; I was not impressed. The tortilla chips were nothing to write home about, either; the guacamole, on the hand, was good and fresh as they made at our table side(I was tempted to reach out and grab an avocado for myself). The only problem with the guac was that we said we wanted it spicy and it wasn’t… maybe next time we should tell them to make it so hot that it would set our faces on fire. At the table there was a taco salad, a burrito, something, shrimp fajitas(mine), and something else. The portions are quite huge. I did the best I could with my fajitas(i.e., I ate everything) because everything was so wonderful and delicious… I was so full that I practically had to crawl out of the restaurant. Seems like there are a lot of complaints about the service; we didn’t have a single problem with it, so perhaps they stepped up their game? In summary, four stars for the fajitas and the service; the sangria was unfortunately lacking, as was the freshly made guacamole due to lack of fire to the face.

If you happen to find yourself between SPAHA and the UPPEREASTSIDE you are in for a special treat. At 2nd and 90th you will find a small Mexican restaurant called TACOTACO. I have been many times and I suggest you get a table and enjoy. Now it’s a good idea to get there early since it does get very busy and seating is limited, especially on the weekends. This would not be an ideal spot for big parties due to the small space but I think that helps makes this little restaurant a intimate spot. Start off with a tasty Pomegranate Margarita or a tall pitcher of Sangria to share with your friends. You won’t regret it especially if you are on a date that isn’t going well(long story). Now to my favorite part, the food!!! Start with the taquitos. With a side of sour cream and guacamole you can’t go wrong. Niki and I share our favorite entrée simply because it is huge. The fish tacos are spectacular with incredible presentation and did I mention, Delicious? It really takes two to finish this unique dish. Perfecto!!! Now you can’t leave without a coffee and a piece of tres leches cake. For those of you that have never experienced tres leches cake, you haven’t quite lived yet. Take the subway, a cab, scooter, or walk as fast as you can and get yourself a piece now!!!
