4 star Food for the typical lunch special for NY Thai places… it is what it is. Service however needs help. The wait stiff doesn’t seem to care, which I don’t understand since you know they are working mostly for tips. Just be pro-active if you are in a hurry because they are not. Wave at them to take your order, fill your water glass, or take dirty plates away or bring you check. I’d give this place 4 starts if it weren’t for the terrible service. I had the«spicy noodle» which was good but not too spicy considering it is their«spicy» meal on the menu. Their mock duck is a good veggie option.

This is the first Thai place that I’ve ordered from in the city and I’ve stuck with it. They have a lunch special that ranges from either $ 7.95 to $ 8.95, depending on the meat you order. The food is good and so is the service. Included in the lunch special is also a choice of appetizer so for the city, definitely worth the price.

Solid place for lunch in the Herald Sq area. For $ 7.95 the lunch special is good but if you’re with a group don’t expect all the plates to come out at the same time or anything. No frills, good but not great food. The chicken with cashews and veggies was a good choice for me and no real complaints or compliments.

Service is horrible — very unorganized. Don’t expect to get in and out quick(pick up or done in) — the only thing that saves this place is the price of the lunch special

I’ve only been here for lunch, but they have great lunch specials so that’s fine with me! For less than $ 10 you get an entrée(your usual Thai dishes — noodles, rice, sautees, curries) plus a small appetizer(salad, soup, spring rolls, etc.). My office is nearby so I usually just call in my order and it’ll be ready within 15 – 20 minutes. I’ve dined in a couple of times too, and the service was pretty quick, even when they were busy. Solid weekday lunch option!

I often come here for lunch because it’s around the corner from my office. They have a $ 7.95−8.95 lunch special(depending on your choice of meat). Food always comes quickly whether I do take out or eat in and i’ve never encountered any huge crowds. Depending on what you order the food can be a little skimpy. While not the greatest Thai food in Manhattan I keep finding myself going there when i’m having a craving for cheap Thai and don’t want to venture too far.

I’ve returned to his place for lunch a few times since my first 1 star review. The quality has improved and the appetizers and soups have been hot coming to the table even during the busy lunch hour. They have good drunken noodles and a very tasty red curry. And portion sizes are bigger than for example Rain Thai rest. Clearly improved service, but still with occasional hiccups when it gets too busy(I ordered a tofu lunch and my friend ordered chicken and when the food came out, his had tofu and mine had a single piece of tofu. So no chicken and my tofu split between the two of us. Still it is the only Thai option in the area though…

2 stars for the food which is decent. However, I came in here earlier today for lunch and it was pretty busy. I ordered beforehand but I wanted to get a table anyway so I stood by the counter and waited with 2 other men who looked like they had already been helped. After waiting for about 5 mins while the wait staff zipped back and forth helping serve tables. A man came came in the restaurant and stood behind me. One of the waiters saw him and immediately asked if he wanted a table to which he said yes and the waiter seated him all within .8754 seconds. My face at that moment looked like this:(//////) and then this(`´). I stood there for another 2 mins and someone finally showed up to the counter and asked if I was there for pickup or sit-in. I opted for pickup and got the hell outta there. I was wearing a beanie and sweats and also had more melanin than my suited up, pale fellow diner. I’m sure this played a role but I’ll just be ordering delivery from now on

This place is actually not as bad as most reviews claimed… I ordered the chicken pad thai while my friend ordered the green curry and duck salad. Since we were on our lunch break, every minute counted! Thankfully they didn’t fail us and all our food came out in about 15 minutes. The chicken pad thai($ 8.95) surpassed my expectations. Chicken was not too dry and noodles were flavorful but not too saucy. It was just enough to hit the spot and satisfy my cravings. The duck salad($ 19.95), however, was a huge rip-off. I had a taste of it and it was definitely lacking. Presentation was sloppy. The iceberg lettuce was roughly chopped and dressing sank to the bottom of the plate, making the top extremely dry and bland and the bottom almost too overpowering. Nonetheless, if you’re short on time and are craving Thai, this is a clean, quiet place to have a quick lunch!

It’s a waiting game here. You wait to be seated even tho there are plenty of available seats. You wait for menus You wait to order Then wait for food. The process takes about 45 minutes and they will forget stuff like bring you water or your appetizer, etc… We see people get fed up on waiting and leave all thd time. Unless you have a long lunch, this place isn’t for you They used to have 2 people working the floor and that can be excused when they open but now they have 3, still very slow. There’s no system there. The two ladies are great but the dude doesn’t seem like he wants to be there at all. As for the food, it’s wash out Thai. It’s so so only

Came here one evening for dinner since it was around the corner from my place with the girlfriend. Ordered a soup and 2 entrees. The food was actually decent but the big negative surprise came when I was paying the bill. My total bill came to $ 24.85 with a tax of $ 2.21. However I had noticed a $ 5.41 automatic gratuity added to the check. Simple math would imply that is is 20% of the after-tax bill and 22% of the pre-tax bill. While I am happy to pay an extra large tip, for the restaurant to automatically charge it was what took me by surprise, especially for a 30 minute meal for a party of 2. I confronted the waitress and she said it was automatically charged because tourists come in there often and they’re not accustomed to tipping. I was astonished. I was fine forking over a couple of dollars to avoid having them refund the charged bill, but a part of me just felt like they were trying to con me, thinking I was a tourist. Not a huge fan, and even though they’re barely a block away, I am sadly never going back again.

Decided to try this place right across from Hotel Chandler. There was no acknowledgement from any of the staff when I walked in. The cashier hardly looked up let alone smile while taking my order. If reviews are based on service, this place doesnt even deserve a half star. Food wasnt too bad. For 8dollars I got spring rolls and red curry chicken with rice. The portion size was kind of small(mostly vegetables with a couple pieces of chicken) and the spring rolls are like the frozen ones from asian stores. I still enjoyed the meal though cause i love red curry. Would I come here again? Probably not, since there are so many other restaurants in this area with cheap lunch options. It was worth a try though.

Tallk about huge frickin portions! A lunch special that is 7.95 and fills yo belly up is my kinda place… BUT. but there are always butts… I came here with a friend at 2PM ish, i guess it was packed for this joint but not really to my standards. I walked up to the registar, the dude who clearly smokes some good shit in the back who was in a daze barely answered me when i asked nicely, «can i have a table for two please?» After 3 mins of me standing there like an asshole, he finally chimes in.” You can seat yourself“ We wait anouther 8 mins. yeah 8 mins or so. for the waitor to come over with water. we give our order… I got the Pad Thai Lunch special with fried tofu – the plate was huge. I never get this much pad thai at a lunch special! god damn, pretty good flavor but a lil greazzzzy… but let me tell you the fried tofu was great. sometimes places over do it with the frying but it was perfectly hard on the outside. and soft on the inside. The app. that i chose were the spicy fish cakes. there were 2 round shaped, fried, deep reddish to brown color things the size of a quater sitting on a plate. I was dissapointed – should have gotten the salad. or something… Overall the place was cute and small and dark and intimate. The service wasnt great at first — once we ordered the food came within 5 mins which was great. I HOPEITWASFRESH?! but over all, deff worth the walk 2 blocks down from work to enjoy a great lunch, at such a damn cheap price for this area.

Solid place to get a satisfying Thai dinner East Midtown. I found this place a few years back when I was commuting in-and-out of New York Penn Station every day. It still remains my favorite Thai joint in the area(granted, there isn’t much competition in that part of the city, but Taan’s still a strong contender). My boyfriend and I usually order the Thai Basil Tofu and vegetarian Pad Thai or Pad See Ew. You can also order drinks there and they have sake. You won’t bust the bank ordering dinner for two here. In fact, I always thought it was a good low-key-dinner date place — away from the hustle and bustle and very chill. Try it!

I got dinner to go from Taan. This may be my new favorite Thai place in the ‘hood. The Pad Si-Eew was traditional an solid. I loved the Vegetarian Duck with Garlic Sauce. They did not skimp on any of the ingredients. Nice people work here, and prices were competitive for the area. They do not skimp on portions, either!

After turning onto 31st Street from 5th Avenue, my friend and I were skeptical. «Are you sure it’s here? I don’t see anything. This street is kinda … shady.» Unilocal reviews led us to this cute little Thai restaurant on a questionably empty street(save a neighboring sushi buffet restaurant). The nondescript glass door opened into a dimly lit restaurant with a wooden bar, about a dozen tables, and an attentive waiter who immediately ushered us to our seat. Beyond the bar we could see additional seating. I loved the décor: lots of wood, with orange-ish pendant lights above the tables. Soft Asian music could be heard. Three other groups were eating lunch & talking quietly. My friend ordered one of the varieties of Fried Rice(extra spicy), and I ordered Chicken Pad Thai(not spicy at all). The servings were enormous for lunch! I thought I wasn’t going to finish it … but the noodles were so tasty that I couldn’t stop myself. It was perfectly cooked & seasoned — albeit slightly oily — with generous portions of bean sprouts and crushed peanuts. My friend raved about her rice! She said it was exactly what she was craving, with the perfect amount of kick, and she also finished her whole plate. But she did point out the traces of oil left on her plate as well. Our meal came out to about $ 20 — very fair for the amount & quality of our food! I’m jealous of the people within their delivery range. Even though the memory of that oil on the plate makes me squeamish, I’d try Taan again.

Good, cheap and clean… I always look for that. I finally found a good lunch spot by the office! Took me almost a year… geez. Anyway, Taan is super clean, I’d eat off the floor. The inside is nice. A bit orangy though(the lights, tables and seats are orange,) but it gets the job done. I mean I’m eating the food, not the décor. I settled on the $ 7.95 lunch special and left feeling satisfied. My only issue, the waiter. Dude, can you show emotion and/or possibly refill my water when you see it gone? Other then that, Taan moved up the«lunch spot» list.
