Beautiful, calming little tea shop, perfect for taking a break out of a busy day or just to get some peace and quiet. It’s tucked away at the back of a hallway that you end through a very nondescript door on Elizabeth St. Inside is a warm, quiet, homey space. The menu is posted on a board on the wall and features a very carefully curated selection of teas. The owner takes a great amount of care and precision into making your tea. I chose the roasted oolong and it was really good. Well balanced with a slight bitterness. The tea is served in a individual glass pot and a tiny drinking cup. I can’t say I’m a tea expert(though I’ve certainly drunk my fair share) but this is definitely a place for those sort as well as casual sippers. The best part though, is the quiet, relaxing atmosphere.

Came in here to pick up some whole leaf tea on a whim to compliment a tea set I bought about a year ago but never used. I’m a novice but thanks to Nissan I had an incredible experience — very knowledgeable, tea was delicious and soothing, and the atmosphere was so calming that I immediately decided I’d be back. I’m not a tea snob or anything but this place is truly special. They also have tea making Monday’s for folks just starting out — will be checking it out tomorrow!

Great place to have authentic Taiwanese tea and have a professional tasting if you have time! Theresa, the owner, is very knowledgeable, kind and helpful. She knows her stuff and works hard to stock her store with a variety of premium teas. The atmosphere is calming and I like that it is a bit hidden so you can escape from the hustle of the city. I had a high mountain oolong tea tasting and it was a delicious and relaxing experience!

It was hidden in the back among several stores. It was a cool experience to have and nice place to catch up, but I definitely wouldn’t return. There was a selection of green teas and we were able to smell before choosing. I didn’t really like the one I chose and the process wasn’t something familiar to me, so the lady gave us the instructions. We had some tea leftover, so they packed it in an air sealed bag which was nice. There was soothing classical music playing in the background, but I think the ambiance would definitely better if the lights were not so bright.

I was introduced to this shop by a friend some time ago. I’ve been a frequent visitor since. Not a stuffy environment nor pretentious. Any visitor, especially those new to tea, are welcomed. Tea aficionados, as myself, will especially find pleasure from the highly curated tea selection sourced by the shop owner herself. The interior of the shop evokes a serene and calming experience for tea drinkers. T Shop is a wonderful reprieve from other tea shops, of lack of, serving a more conservative(or «safe») or «trendy» tea selection, catering to the Starbucks-minded audience. Apart from having a cup of tea(which you’re offered a generous re-steeping of), you may have a tea tasting with the owner. I highly recommend the tea tasting to everyone. You can sample some teas and gain some wonderful insights on the leaves and process. A wonderful thing for the curious and open minded. Yes. The tea shop is set back inside a long hallway, inside a building. There are signs for it on the entrance to the building and a fold-up chalk board on the sidewalk. You can purchase fine loose leaves and tea ware(and sets). I say T Shop is one of NYC’s hidden gems.

This place is ADORABLE. If you love tea and want a unique, homey experience, you have to check this little shop out. This place is tucked away in the back of a space in the middle of bustling Elizabeth St. It’s very small and looks like someone’s apartment. They have several options for tea: you can do a tasting where you get to know one tea very well, get a simple pot of a teabag of your selection, book an appointment to try speciality teas, or share a pot with a group of friends. We opted for our own cups and tried two different types of oolong teas. I loved the Red River Oolong-you can taste just a hint of subtle sweetness in the smooth waves of the tea. The owner is very considerate and offers re-steeps as soon as you’re done. What I like most about this place is the homey atmosphere. It honestly feels like you dropped by someone’s house to have tea and it’s a very nice way to recharge during a busy day. Since the space is small and quiet this place is best for a pair of people looking to chill for a couple of hours!

Addicted to tea and looking for a place to relax and catch up with two friends, so we happened upon here on a brisk New York night thanks to Unilocal.Sketched out by a «TOTALLYHIDDENTEASHOPTOYOURLEFT» sign, I was very apprehensive walking in. We had to wait a bit, as the only staff member was helping a party of 4 do a tea tasting. So you have an option to either: — Tea tasting(5 tastings) $ 10 per person — Cup of tea(One pot per person — they will re-steep it and leaves last several times) $ 5 per person — Gong Fu Style — Tea for whole table — $ 25 We wanted to try various teas, so we went with a pot of tea each. We tried the High Mountain Oolong, the 4 Seasons Oolong and the Red River Oolong. The worker here was really knowledgeable, as we just gave him what hints we wanted in our tea and strength and he found appropriate teas for all of us. We enjoyed every single tea — it’s clearly high quality here. The High Mountain Oolong was strong and a bit bitter at the end, which I enjoyed. The 4 Seasons was a nice, green tea with sweetness. It was a bit quiet, as we were the only party, so it made us a bit self-conscious. There also were tea pots everywhere so we had to move around several things and service was a bit slow, but we sat for 2 hours undisturbed for $ 5 per person with amazing tea, so I’m very pleased. Will definitely be back!

T Shop is singularly and unquestionably one of my favorite places in NYC. In a city like ours, a city that never sleeps, never stops, and thrives(as well as breeds) on the rush of sound, light, and novelty, T Shop is an oasis. Tucked away down a long corridor, the moment I step through those glass doors, the weight of the island vanishes, and suddenly the peacefulness that is so easily discarded in my day to day swells within me. There’s a few tables if you prefer to brew yourself, seats at a counter if you’d rather be surprised and delighted by Theresa instead, but most importantly, the entire shop is both inviting and genuine. There isn’t a tea on the shelf that isn’t amazing and you can find something for everyone — though a quick word on the selection: T Shop carries primarily Taiwanese teas, which translates to mostly Oolongs, Pu-erh, and some black teas. Still, there are lovely greener teas, and also a white, and I have always felt that no matter who I brought here, they were sure to find something they liked. And they have! So, my Unilocal friends, I am sure you will too.

I don’t often do Unilocal reviews, but this place was amazing. Found the shop through . Huge selection, amazing wealth of knowledge, and it’s a great experience. It’s $ 25 for brewing gong fu style at a table(and that’s for the whole table, not per person, so it’s good for going with company). The price might seem steep(no pun intended) if you’re used to crappy tea, but the fact that you can walk into this place and it’s QUIET, and you can sit there and brew over and over and over as long as you like makes the price worthwhile. I went with a friend and selected a nice rich oolong. We say for an hour, brewed probably 12 – 15 pots of tea, and enjoyed relaxing in a very quiet room(with wifi, in case you want to bring a laptop and work!), and we each paid 12.50. And, to make it even more worthwhile: they have a great tea selection, which includes pu-erh!

Amazing little tea shop but VERY easy to walk right past! Worth the find — amazing selection of teas available with a wealth of knowledge. There are also tons of cool events and educational classes here like sunday sunday and tastings of rare teas. If you love teas, or are new to tea and want to know more, please do stop in this amazing jewel.

Great little tea shop. It is hidden at the back of the building so don’t be scared off by the front. We chose the tea for 2(I forgot the name but basically not the sampling one) and we sat at a little table. When we walked in, there were about 3 other people in there. I believe one of them works there. The other two were just chatting up. We were there for about 2 hours. You can choose your tea. We kind of smelled all of them and upon the lady’s recommendation, we chose a oolong tea. The tea was very good. Too bad it closes at 9pm. I would go there for tea after dinner if I could!

Very tiny shop that’s hidden by a tarot card reading shop, but cute and cozy! When I first came, it was a wee bit awkward because my friend and I were the only ones in a hidden, quiet, cozy place. We thought we could have a private little chat, but it is WAY too quiet for the shop owner to not hear. BUT the woman is friendly and extremely knowledgable about teas. We had a tea sampler and she taught us about the different kinds of teas, the steeping and how that alters the change of the tea and tea etiquette. She was so sweet and gave us insight on what we might like based on our previous tea tastings. It was my first time tea sampling so I didn’t know what to expect, but I learned a great deal about the different depth of flavors within the tea leaves. It was a memorable experience! Not to mention, the tea really did fill us up quickly. Also, she has teapots and teacups that are up for sale. While she was traveling in Taiwan, she brought a lot of tea cups that are beautiful.

Excellent little tea shop, hidden at the end of a corridor past the palm reader. I’m not too knowledgeable about tea, but the host, Nissan, was welcoming and eager to explain the intricacies of tea making, drinking and culture. For $ 10 per person, you can try a tea that is painstakingly brewed and prepared. For $ 25, you can take a table in the well-lit, air-conditioned room and brew your own tea. You can also purchase tea and tea accessories such as clay teapots and porcelain cups. Quiet, relaxing and highly recommended.

My favorite tea shop in NY! I always learn so much every time I come here for tea tastings. Shan Lin Xi oolong is my favorite among the teas thats I’ve tried, it’s so smooth, buttery, and sweet! Besides the high quality teas, they also have beautiful teawares that are available for purchase.

A very charming, low-key tea spot. I’m not a big fan of tea, yet teas here are always very enjoyable. As everybody else mentioned, the owner is super friendly. Every time I come here, the experience is always good and relaxing. That’s why I keep coming back(for tea and some quiet time). NYC needs places like T Shop!

My favorite tea shop. Theresa, the owner, is super nice, laid back, and not dogmatic at all about tea. Tea should be a fun and relaxing experience, something simple and elegant. Her teas come from Taiwan, whose terrain(hilly/mountainous) offer many flavor profiles I have not found in mainland Chinese teas. She claims she likes to learn along with you and experience things you might have to offer her. I love that! Bring in a tea from home and have a nice hour long conversation with her! You won’t be disappointed. Tea quality is wonderful. No astringency, no dryness, no off flavors. Just smoothness. I can’t complain. Prices are great and are what I would call more normal. You should not have to spend $ 80 for two ounces of tea. Yes I am talking to you, Tea Drunk. Try it! You’ll love it!

Unlike other tea shops, this is a place to get good, authentic tea! The place has a few seatings, very quiet and homie. It has a nice fragrance when you walk in the door. You can make your own tea there, which is different from other places. They have a lot of cute tea pots & cups… also a good selection of tea. My favorite tea is the Gardenia Oolong tea! It smells amazing!

This is a hidden small gem. It is very easy to walk past the store without noticing it. You would probably notice a psychic sign and that is where the shop is(next door). There is minimal seating indoors, but there’s a patio for outdoor seating(in the works). When I first walked in, I questioned why this shop was located in the back, but it adds to the soothing ambiance. The unique thing about the shop is that you make your own tea with the tools, which is fun. I love doing things like that, especially since I don’t have the utensils at home. I personally love tea, so tea lovers definitely would enjoy the shop. In a place like NYC, places that encourage customers to slow down and relax are not as common. T Shop is where you can you do that. I sat down and had tea for over an hour which makes it a nice spot to catch up with friends. Lastly, the owner Theresa is super friendly and passionate about tea. She has a great collection of teaware that I would love to buy, but I have a lot of unused kitchenware that I have bought in the past.
