Only in New York can you get a full fledged Omakase meal at midnight. Love that they are opened late and serve quality inventive sushi at all hours. I typically get the sushi /sashimi Omakase or the seki for two. Either way, you can’t go wrong!

{Writing from my gf’s Unilocal account} Came here on a Thursday night, for a 11:15 reservation for an anniversary dinner with my girlfriend. They didn’t have the table ready and we waited. Sure, Im okay with that knowing the food will be awesome. We sat down and no one acknowledged us and no water for 10 min, until we asked. Ordered right after, waited 50 minutes for the food(It was not busy at all…). I see that the chef that made our food acknowledged the fact that our plate has been sitting at the pass for God knows how long already. THISINFURIATESME, being in the business. We called the waiter over and told him its been forever since we ordered, finally he brought the food. I immediately touch all the items I know should be warm-hot and obviously they are cold. We had ordered the sushi deluxe and a fried oyster roll. They remade the fried oyster roll and then served a smaller super overcooked roll… delicious. The pieces that were supposed to be warm, salmon w. torched tomato, the sushi chef tried to say that it isn’t supposed to be warm. Meanwhile the new one that they brought over was steaming, pretty funny. We also asked the waiter if he forgot about the food(other tables that came after us already got their sushi) and he said that he did indeed forget it. The rest of the night was just terrible, sitting and contemplating whether or not its worth ever going back to Seki :(Considering the fact that the waiter forgot about us for so long we figured they at least comp the oyster roll, nope. They just comped our 2 cokes that we got. Unfortunately, anniversary dinner fail. Go to Gari and save your money.

The food is not fancy but the price. All dishes came in a small plate. The sashimi dinner is ok, but I don’t think it worth $ 55 for only few kinds of fish. Tuna is so so… general speaking, I won’t come again.

First, let’s talk about the reservation process… I wanted a table because I didn’t want to be stuck with the $ 100+ omakase. I was told they are all booked, but they would gladly sit me at the omakase bar. Okay, I figured alright, I called in an hour before anyway. I got there and saw several tables open. I requested any table and was told they were all reserved. Okay. But, throughout our dinner, there were at least 50% of the tables still open. Alright, onto the dinner. I asked how much the omakase was. Answer: it depends how much you want to eat. WTF? When pressed, I was told, $ 90 and up. What is this, extra if I get a happy ending?! When pressed again, I was told $ 90-$ 100. Okay, I can live with the $ 10 range although they should really stick with one or the other. Onto the quantity. 11 small pieces for a c-note. I don’t mind the pieces, but I do mind that one piece was one piece, not the typically 4 – 6 actual pieces in a roll you’d get with a normal spicy tuna roll or another kind. Instead, we were so hungry after we had to fill ourselves with a $ 8 spicy tuna roll. And just imagine if he were given a regular table. We would have walked out paying $about $ 50 for 4 – 6 rolls. That’s all we wanted! Instead, we paid about $ 300 including 1 drink each, omakase and a spicy tuna roll. Ugh! And you know we were expected some complimentary dessert, tea, or maybe a freakin’ happy ending! But, nada, zilch, just a fake smile on the way out. We are not dumb Americans! Well, this dumb American is smart enough to not return.

I cannot believe what has happened to this place. A spinoff of Gari, it used to be inventive and a bit less expensive and less serious. Now, it is just a bad experience on most levels. The sake selections were either horribly overpriced or just bad. And at least half of the omakase is really mediocre, bland tasting versions of his old winners. And with $ 60 of sake, it is $ 400 for two! Sad to see an old winner turn into a Vegas ripoff.

Worst service EVER. I was visiting from Japan, and arranged to meet a friend that I hadn’t seen in a while and was looking forward to eating some good sushi in New York. Literally as soon as we sat down and asked the sushi chef(in Japanese) what the osusume(recommendations) were for the day, he was so SO rude to us that we left even before we got started. It was after midnight and I don’t know if he was just tired or just a horrible person but why would you go out of your way to make someone feel unwelcome? We were so polite to him and tried to interact with him with respect but what we got back was just unacceptable. To be honest, as a fellow Japanese, I felt ashamed. NEVERAGAIN.

I guess very disappointed is the only way I can describe the omakase dinner I took my mom to at Sushi Seki. starting at $ 120 I left the place feeling a little like I went to a corner sushi place except there’s a much bigger hole in my wallet. omakase is a representation of the chef and the establishment. this experience showed a bit of a lack of care. service was fine although I’ve never had such a non engaging chef at a sushi bar(for the most part, the chef next to him had to address my requests for ginger and about whether or not there was any botanebi left). judging from the previous reviews, I would say that perhaps this is a one off experience but unfortunately, I won’t be back and will not in good conscience recommend this place to any of my friends. the omakase started out pretty good. 4 pieces that were well presented: amberjack with some kind of scallions sauce(nice), otoro with some ginger purée and shiso(very nice), some kind of marinated seared salmon(surprisingly not bad), raw oyster with some ponzu and scallions ginger garnish(nice). ok, nice start. getting excited… sushi chef taking over… first piece: chopped toro(am I in Manhattan or somewhere in the midwest? I’m fine with that in a roll if I was sitting at a table with some folks that are not really into sushi — the I-love-sushi-California-rolls-are-my-fav crowd — but chopped fish with sauce mixed in? ok, ok… just the first piece… and it wasn’t actually bad… let’s move on) second piece: red snapper(whew, things looking up… not anything high end but I like red snapper. this is the omakase simplicity I’m looking for… just fish, a dab of wasabi on well made rice, dash of sea salt) third piece: some kind of tempura white fish with shiso leaf(whoa! wth? did you just cook my sushi? what’s next salmon teriyaki nigiri??? did I say kaiseki or omakase? am I confused or are you confused?) fourth piece: salmon with a slice of grilled tomato on top(did I walk into one of those Asian fusion places? in fairness, it wasn’t bad but I did order omakase, right?) fifth piece: yellowtail with a jalapeño garnish(ok… getting better… I can taste the fish! just a light touch of soy… perfect!) sixth piece: some kind of tuna, I’m thinking chutoro but I can’t really tell bc it’s paired with a grilled tofu and a generous serving of some kind of cream tofu sauce(are we still here for the fish? sorry, got distracted by the hodgepodge of flavors in my mouth… probably could’ve easily used a piece of maguro there and it wouldn’t have made a difference) seventh piece: baby yellowtail(light brush of soy, what omakase was meant to be… very good) eighth piece: salmon… again… this time with a generous helping of scallions sauce?(guess you need to add variety to the cheap fish. maybe I should say something.) me: excuse me, I’m getting rather full. I would prefer higher quality, lower quantity… if you go over the price, its fine… ninth piece: uni, a little heavy on soy, topped with ginger scallions purée(it was ok… not sweet but I guess I can’t blame them since that can be a crap shoot… traditional preparation was appreciated but it was served at a very cold temperature, which could have detracted from the taste) tenth piece: something chopped in a handroll with tempura crunch mixed in(am I at ichiumi??? holy crap! I could feel the oil ooze out of the tempura crunch… between the mayonnaise in the sauce and the tempura oil, I had no idea what it was they chopped up in there! is this a test? are there hidden cameras? am I getting punked? this alone could’ve dropped them to a one star… how about salmon skin? or you wanna do you chopped toro? do it here! tobiko? anything or even nothing would have been better! took about a liter of water to get some of that taste out of my mouth…) anyway… that’s my experience… again, maybe an off night… should be 2.5 stars for the price but I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. Final tab with tip: $ 309. I could go on and list all the places that at $ 309 for two people won’t give me spicy-anything-tempura-crunch but I’d just be wasting my effort. If you hate money and love sauce that disguises the taste of your fish, go to Sushi Seki.

The Omekase is amazing — great selection of fish, nicely flavored — some simple some very unique flavor profiles, outstanding presentations. So good we kept going and reordered several standouts. Not cheap but worth every penny. Sushi chef was on the deal — definitely picked up on what we liked and cranked out one great choice after another. Have been to Seki before and ordered pieces and rolls — they are good, but the Omekase is truly where it’s at. Try it — you won’t be disappointed!

Probably one of the biggest rip off in recent time. The sushi(and special) entrée cost $ 38 and $ 45 with 9 pieces and 1 roll(Yasuda charged $ 44 for 12 pieces, larger pieces, + 1 roll and no tip, you do the math). So I thought the quality must be pretty good. I was dead wrong. The so-called sushi seki special 9 pieces were uninspiring — not to mention that there were two pieces of vege out of 9. The portion was also small. The quality was so mediocre that my $ 2812-piece from my neighborhood sushi store in Chicago can beat this anytime. And the guy said that the chef recommended not to use soy sauce with the special pieces(vs. normal pieces). As soon as we dived in, I found that there was very little difference between the two — except that the salmon had a piece of tomato on top and the tuna had some tofu sauce, etc. Now to the service. I booked a table for 2 in advance and it was early in the evening with few patrons. But we got a table right to the bathroom with people kept bumping into my seat to get to the bathroom.(The distance between my seat and the seat from the other table can barely let a skinny teenager to get through.) Then one of the staff at the restaurant decided to open the back door right to the bathroom to do something — cold air streamed in for a solid 2 – 3 minutes(it was ~50 today). Then our waiter seldom checked on us. And he did, he would not offer to refill anything — I meant my ginger had run off not once but twice! I asked him to refill the first time. He brought out a little soy sauce plate worth of ginger. Then we finished it and he saw that — no reaction. When we asked again, he handed us another even smaller portion this time. As soon as I was done, my plate was taken from me and the waiter immediately asked me about dessert. Hello? My mom was still working on her entrée! They obviously wanted to kick us out as soon as possible. Unbelievable. Mediocre food for hefty price and terrible service. Please avoid at all cost.

The sushi and sashimi here is very good — super fresh, nicely done creations in appearance but very ordinary none the less. The problem here are the prices — 180 for 2 Omagase dinners with about 8 pieces each can’t be described as anything but robbery. I never use extreme language or terms on Unilocal but this is a very modest, very unfancy place where the prices are just stupid and larcenous. They are evasive too when you ask the price upfront — I don’t care to waste any more words. Total rip off.

I went here last night after hearing great reviews for the sushi and the fact that it’s open until 2AM. I’ve typically been apprehensive of spots that open late simply because I honestly have a different palate at 2AM vs. 6PM.(Ha!) I came here around 9PM and the place was pretty busy. The sushi bar was entirely filled and the back seating was slowly clearing out at that time. The place isn’t large by any means and there were many couples on dates during this time. We ended up securing a spot at the sushi bar and after looking at the menu, we decided to order a la carte. I did hear great reviews about the Omakase but a la carte options didn’t fail to deliver. We just ordered several appetizers and two Spicy Tuna rolls. They came out within five minutes of us ordering and I can honestly say this was probably my favorite spicy tuna roll. It was prepared differently and there’s something amazing that they add to the rolls which really differentiate it from other sushi restaurants. Definitely will return even at 2AM!

Such a cool sushi spot in UES, but you definitely need a reservation. We ordered the Maguro Avocado appetizer(diced tuna & avocado in wasabi/soy sauce) to start with and it was so fresh and flavorful… We literally ate the whole thing in a couple minutes! We then ordered a few rolls… The spicy scallops roll and the salmon roll were really good, but both me and my friend did not like the spicy tuna one, so I would never get that one again. Service was good, food was great and wine was good, so I’m happy! Going back!

I didn’t give it 5 stars because last time I went I orders the lychee martini and it was ok, but I was disappointed I mean it was $ 15 and the drink didn’t have any sort of decoration or even the mandatory lychee that comes inside the cocktail :(it was just a glass with liquid. If I’m paying $ 15 for a lychee martini can it at least look presentable? Love this place though! But no more cocktails lol

The sushi was just ok. I felt like I should have been wowed based on the prices. The ambience is really nice. It is packed in which normally someone wouldn’t like but it seems authentic. Our service started out great with one server and then we were handed off to another server who was not happy with his line of work. I probably wouldn’t recommend it, but if you are in the neighborhood and hungry I would say it’s ok.

Sushi seki… It’s a decent place lol… BUT if you come after midnight the quality is horrible. They had a chef there that was obviously learning. The guy that was servicing the other party seemed a lot more experienced. I’ve been there 5 times. If you go for sashimi, it’s pretty good, but omakase is HORRIBLE. Especially with that chef. Compared to sushi dojo for example this isn’t even close. Comparing a Kia to a Bentley. Also, for 175 a person go to serious places like Tanoshi, Nakazawa, Yasuda. Not coming back. Stay closed at that hour. Quality goes down and gf got sick 100% with you guys due to timing and severity.

Sushi Seki is absolutely amazing, the food is incredible. You HAVE to seat at the sushi bar and order the Omakase which is one of the best one in the city as well as most authentic. It’s also one of the best priced high quality sushi place in the city. And one more thing. you can go eat at 1am if you want as this place closes at 2.30am. A lot of the chefs of the tops restaurant in the city come here after they are done working.

4.5 stars I took away .5 star because out of the omakase experience, I wasn’t won over with 1 or 2 pieces. ++ 4.5 stars because WOW I came here for my anniversary a few days ago, and we made a reservation at the bar for omakase. The bill came out to be $ 320 for us both. Was it worth it? Can’t say, but I can say that it was the best and only sushi & sashimi omakase I’ve had. I couldn’t make out everything our sushi chef told us he had just served because of his accented English, but I know I heard«Japan» «very good» «fresh» «[insert name of seafood here]». I ate everything that this man put on my plate after he won over my trust with the first couple of pieces. My favorite out of the all were(oh god this is hard to only pick a few): spicy scallop roll, salmon with seared tomato on top, and the oyster in the start. My boyfriend isn’t that crazy about sushi, but he fell in love with the pieces as well and #anotherone-d it for an extra piece to finish our omakase experience. They normally serve you 10 pieces and then ask you if you want more. Tip: Don’t dip your sushi into the soy sauce and try it as served first. It’s flavored perfectly 99% of the time. The waitstaff here are super attentive by the bar. My boyfriend dropped his chopsticks & the moment that he bent over to pick it up, the waitress was already by his side with another pair. Wow. Our tea was also constantly refilled. The sushi chefs do not necessarily give you 100% of their attention since this place is so busy, but the speed at which pieces come out are quick yet slow enough so that you can enjoy, talk, and let the food settle in your stomach — which is good for getting full since you probably won’t stop ordering if pieces came out in high speeds. Although this place isn’t romantic, and there were no complimentary champagne glasses or desserts to commemorate our anniversary the food was truly memorable. Sushi Seki will be setting the standard for future omakases I will be trying. I’ll be coming back when I make more money!

My boyfriend and I are huge sushi fans. We are always trying to find the«best sushi» in NYC, and we don’t like to go to places more then once if we can help it. We just took our 4th trip to Sushi Seki. Each time we ordered the omakase and were NEVER disappointed. This past time we went we sat at the sushi bar for the first time. I recommend this if you are avid sushi people. When you sit at a table you get about 3 pieces for each course. The upside to this is that they’ll have a stopping point for you — of course you can order more but we tended to stop because the bill would already amount to over 200 dollars. When you sit at the sushi bar they give you one piece at a time and the chef will wait for you to finish and then place a new piece down right away. Each piece is so unique and flavorful. I loved the salmon. The downside to this — there’s no stopping point, so be careful. Towards the end of the meal we picked 2 pieces each that we liked and had him make them for us again. Long story short, food is so creative and fresh. If you’re ready to shell out at least $ 250 on quality not quantity then this is the place for you. Never had a bad taste experience.

Sushi Seki is definitely overrated. Close-minded Upper East Siders and drunk frat boys go here because it’s where they’ve been going for years and they simply don’t know any better. When I got my meal, I knew right away something was off. It didn’t taste too fresh, but I continued to eat it as I was starving and because Sushi Seki is one of the few restaurants open at 2AM on the UES. That is the only good thing about this place. However, had I known what was going to happen, I would have rather starved for an entire week than eat that contaminated shit they call fish that got me FOOD-POISONED. I really wish I could give this shithole –5 stars for the misery they put me through while being food-poisoned. The most awful experience ever. Save yourself by not coming here. You’ll have less of a chance getting sick eating the rubbish from the corner trash bin.

This place was recommended to us by a friend, and it had all kinds of Zagat commendations on the wall as a testimony to its food. Plus the place was full and it seems to have a loyal following. Which begs the question: WTF??? This place was way below average. Either we just went there on a bad night, or the fans of this place have never experienced quality sushi elsewhere. The stench of fish was too much upon entry. We ordered the eggplant appetizer which was the best part of the whole meal. The Sea Vegetable Salad(what the hell is a sea vegetable?!?) was meh, and the portion was small. The disaster started when we got our meals. The fatty tuna was too stringy, and just a bit bigger than the size of quarter. We later learned that each small little snack size of this fatty tuna was $ 14, and since the menu only said MP(market price) we had ordered 4. Lesson learned: next time ask how much is MP. The seared tuna roll was not edible. You couldn’t tell the price between the seared salmon and regular salmon rolls. The portions were so small, and we are clearly hungry still at the end of the meal. But the food was so bad that we didn’t feel like ordering from of this crap. Then when we got the bill, we got the royal surprise of how much they were charging for their horrible food. We ended the night across the street in a pizza joint just so we don’t go home hungry. Again, I am so baffled by how a lousy place like this has a loyal customer base and other good reviews here.

My favorite sushi restaurant in the city. When I moved to the UES, I used to joke that it was so I could be closer to Seki. :) Omakase at the sushi bar is the way to go. Yes, it’s a bit pricier but you get what you pay for. Their sushi is a bit more modern and more creative than the traditional sushi you may be used to. Places is very popular, so make sure to get a reservation(and specify the sushi bar). I like to end my omakase with a spicy scallop handroll — you won’t regret it. Another plus is that they are open very late(and you may spot some well-known chefs who go here after their shifts — another good sign for the place).

Sushi Seki never disappoints. After you walk in amongst the hustle and bustle of the late night hours through the dining room, you sit down and realize, oh my god, everyone around me is so attractive. I usually don’t stare but I was taken away by a few females when munching on my spicy tuna. I’ll stop talking now Fish is always fresh and is always top quality. Tuna/avocado salad is one of my favorite apps. if you are a fan of tuna(maguro)(the dark red kind) they do a great spicy tuna roll with a tofu sauce on top. Sounds a bit weird but trust me its the bomb. Don’t go into this restaurant counting your pennies. The food, whether it be raw or cooked, is always fresh and composed beautifully. With every bite, you come to realize they aren’t cutting any corners in terms of quality and presentation. BEEFNEGIMAKI/COLD SOBA are also my favorites. It isn’t inexpensive by any means, but I promise you; order what you want, laugh, have a good time, and you wont regret it.

Seki is easily my favorite omakase in the city. I have never had a piece of sushi that I didn’t like here. The fish is extremely fresh and a great portion. The combinations and pieces they have created are well balanced, each being a perfect bite. We have gone so many times that we have a list of our favorites that we some times request. I prefer sitting at the bar for the full experience, but it definitely gets pricey. Some of my favorites; salmon & tomato, crunchy rice spicy tuna, tuna tofu, chopped eel, and many more! I always make sure to leave enough room to end with a spicy scallop hand roll. Seems simple, but they do it best. I love this place.

Love this place! Was double booked for dinner so I broke my rule of not ordering omakase and just got the Sushi Seki special(9 pieces and 1 roll for $ 45, which I thought was a good deal). All the pieces were amazing and I was especially surprised by how much I loved their eggplant piece! Never had that before but was pleasantly surprised. The Seki special is the non-traditional route where they serve sushi with special sauces and other things like tomato on top(sort of like sushi of gari). Their salmon with seared tomato wasn’t as good as how Gari does it but everything else was great. Will definitely have to come back here another night when I’m not having 2 dinners to try the omakase! Tip — if you book at the sushi table, you have to order omakase. Random side note — it was a bit weird that they had white paper on top of the tablecloth and disposable chopsticks, since this place tries to come off as a «nice» restaurant. I didn’t mind because the food was so good, but just thought I’d add that for those who do care or are trying to impress people who might care.

It’s okay. Really. I hate giving renowned sushi joints less than 4 stars, but that’s the best I could muster up. I’ve heard about Seki for years, and was excited to finally try it. I mean, what kind of a sushi place opens up until 3am? For the best and worst reasons apparently. I take my raw fish seriously, and that includes everything from the décor to the service and ultimately the quality of the sushi. I thought the sign for the restaurant was a little tacky on their part. Sushi places usually opt for the minimalistic yet elegant approach when it comes to design. This one seemed forced and a little boastful, even. Yasuda and Nakazawa will always have my heart in terms of aesthetics. We sat at the bar for an 11pm omakase and split an awesome bottle of sake together which was probably the highlight of the meal. The sushi was good but I wasn’t blown away. My bf had a few gripes about how majority of the fish was on the saltier side too. Service was mediocre at best and then they charge us individually for miso soups after making it out to be seem like they were complimentary. Why, bruh.

Well, food lovers… there you have it. A ridiculously amazing sushi spot on the Upper East Side. Say whaaaaaaa? I had a long day and by long I mean, long. I was craving sushi badly but too lazy to go anywhere far. Sushi Seki is literally a 5 minute walk from my apartment and if it was any longer, I probably wouldn’t have even gone tonight. Yes, I was THAT lazy/tired/annoyed. I called and managed to snag a 5:30 sushi counter reservation just an hour before(they open at 5:30). The sushi is a bit on the sweeter side which is what I like personally. They also add some sauces here and there to make it more flavorful. While I feel like the people who were eating at Sushi Seki didn’t appreciate sushi as much as I had hoped them to(come on people, California rolls?! NO) the food was the main focus(and not the ambiance). SUSHIPIECES — OMAKASE(chefs choice) + Medium fatty tuna, snapper, yellowtail, snow crab, toro with tofu, kanpachi, fluke, fatty tuna, white shrimp, eel with avocado, uni, seared toro, seared monkfish, fried oyster, spicy scallop hand roll. Honestly, everything was amazing and I find this to be better than Sushi of Gari and also less expensive. For the amount of pieces we had, I found this to be a very good value as sushi pieces can really add up. This will absolutely be my go-to spot in my area. I definitely think this is one of the best sushi spots in NYC.

Man is the OMAKASE here impressive! My bf and I were here for dinner on Thursday evening. We had reservations for 8:30 but due to high volume of patrons that night, we had to wait a few minutes for our table to be cleaned. Our server, which I failed to ask his name, was super professional, kind, and pleasant. He really had set the tone for the evening. He explained to us that Omakase has set price, but determined on how much you can eat. Each round comes with three pieces, and if you had the appetite, you can have as many rounds of sushi as you could eat. I went through 6 rounds. My bf had 7. Of the six rounds, the ROASTEDTOMATO on SALMON, the JAPANESEREDSNAPPER, and SPICYSCALLOPHANDROLL were my favorites. Everything was excellent in their own special way. It’s not the freshest fish since many of their pieces are masked with a sauce. Do not get me wrong, it’s still super high quality, but sadly(depending on environmental standpoint) some fishes are imported all the way from Japan. Worth a visit once, but I’m not sure twice since you’re paying a hefty price(6 – 7 rounds omakase + 3 beers = $ 308 tax included).

Meh. At $ 200+ for a 2 person bill, I was underwhelmed. With plenty of sushi options in the city, this is one I would avoid. It’s not that great– the variety in the sushi just sucked. Their sake list is also meh, and I felt we were being rushed. We had a 7:30 reservation but we were seated right next to the door– ugh. That already set the crappy tone for the rest of the dinner. I should’ve read the reviews and seen some of the pictures before coming because I definitely wouldn’t have come if this place follows suit to Gari — I don’t like the modernized or innovative styled sushi, and would be much happier and satisfied with straight up traditional. This is NOT a traditional sushi joint and I didn’t appreciate a lot of the pieces that came out — especially the vegetable piece(smh). I don’t order omakase when I’m visiting a sushi restaurant for the first time — I try out their other set platters before getting to that. Trust me — ohhhh, I know sushi, and this is NOT my cup of tea. The zaru soba was fine but you really can’t mess that up. The king oyster mushroom appetizer was a bit burnt, but generally quite delicious. All in all, a meh experience and definitely far from mind-blowing. Was very underwhelmed. The place was PACKED, however. People were uncomfortably standing around the cashier area and staring at people eating — seriously annoying.

The place is small and narrow and curves like a snake when you are inside. We didn’t make reservations, but there was room for us and we were happy to be seated without a long wait. The look of the place is nice and clean, but nothing that stood out or was memorable about the setup. Pros: food was superb. The fish was fresh and well prepared. I sometime do not enjoy raw fish in large quantities but here I even tried actual pieces of sushi and liked them. In addition to the rolls, you can pick a selection of sushi pieces. There are premise options with 9 pieces and a roll for $ 45. It’s not bad! Con: very hard for those who have dietary restrictions. Lots of the sushi and fish on the menu is marinate in soy sauce over night. As a result, there are few options for those with gluten allergies. For other allergies, too, like sesame allergies food modifications are not readily available. With that said, for people who have no food restrictions — this is the place to be. Otherwise, it may be complicated.

I am a huge fan of sauces and relish so I tend to veer towards the«innovative» sushi houses as opposed to «purist» ones. There are two locations for Sushi Seki, one on the upper east side and one in Chelsea. The Chelsea location seems to be a little done up, so I opted for the UES location because it preserves more of the original identity. There are three price points for omakase. Basically, the chef will start you off at the lowest price point and once he finishes he will ask if you are still hungry and move you on to the next level. I ended up eating the $ 100 omakase which included 12 pieces and was extremely filling. One of my favorite pieces was the yellowtail with jalapeño. I also really enjoyed the tuna with tofu, the vegetable tempura and the salmon with grilled tomato. For dessert I ordered a red bean taiyaki, which was not that memorable.
