I went on a Thursday and there was an open mic comedy show happening. I think this happens a few nights of the week and that was pretty fun. It’s a really cool venue and they just need to fill it up and throw on some jams for it to be perfect. Giving it 5 stars for some more visibility though :)

«I wanted it to be so much more» I have been here a couple of Friday nights and both times it was dead. However, I will say that both times I arrived before 11pm. I do not if the marketing people are promoting this place enough because it is in a «cool» part of town and the bar’s two story place is kind of cool. You walk in the top bar and see no one so you think«oh maybe everyone is downstairs» but this is not the case. Maybe the signage is a little too well hidden and people are walking right past the joint. Or, maybe friday nights are bad for this place. One redeeming factor is the bartender, Anthony. Who is very nice and chatty. I hope the owners do something drastic because I would really hate to see this place go. Hey, some night they have free cheetos. ;)

Don’t be fooled by the near-empty street-level bar area — as the name implies, there are stairs in the back that lead to a more lively underground hangout. The specials are pretty good, the bartenders are courteous, and there’s even a food menu. The atmosphere picks up a bit when there’s a DJ too. All in all, a nice, cozy, intimate spot that blends in well with the neighborhood.

This new basement bar in the Lower East Side is almost speakeasy since there is no visible signage outside the Bar(I walked past it twice to meet with friends). It was their soft opening when we went there last Summer and we are practically the only patrons at that time. The place is dimmed with many corner seats that make for an intimate setting. The bartender plays great music while serving booze, indeed a one man show. At that time, it was somewhat difficult to feel the bar’s vibe or exactly how they want their bar to be recognized. I will definitely come back to this bar to find that out. That is, if they are still open!

The weird thing is that this bar is hauntingly empty. No one seems to know about it but it is the newest addition to the scene. It is conveniently located close to bedlam. I wish people would go to this bar, it is very cute and clean and the drinks are very reasonably priced. I will be back, but only as an interim stop during the night… they need to get people in here

We stopped by Stairs for happy hour which occurs every day 5 – 9. The weird thing is entering at street level into an empty coffee lounge as if the place was closed, giving no hint to walk through the emptiness and go down the stairs. Maybe the place should’ve been named Stairs to Hell so you know to go down. Stairs is a new, neo-divey underground East Village gay lounge & bar with dark back room with DJs playing on certain nights. The stories that subterranean dark room could probably tell! The bar is bathed in devilish red lighting. Again, Stairs to Hell? There are cool theme specials every night of the week 11 pm-2 am. Too bad we missed Irish Wednesdays with Jameson specials and $ 5 house whiskey. If we come back tonight, Saturday, it’d be $ 6 house appletinis and cosmos. Oh well! During happy hour it’s a quiet friendly neighborhood bar off the beaten track between Aves A & B. Weekend nights are probably thumping. Cool bartenders, and hot lounge menu items too, including fried shrimp, Cajun shrimp, portebello burgers and turkey sliders! Check it out.
