The Cuban sandwiches are to die for. Make sure you get it «with a twist” — it’s worth the extra dollar for their special green sauce! There’s no place inside to eat, so this is takeout only. Delivery has also taken me up to 2 hours before to receive my food so make sure you order earlier in the morning if you want your food by lunch time. Regardless of the wait times, their food is just too good to pass up so I keep coming back for more!

Sophie’s is my go to whenever I’m around Chambers and need a quick fix. The food is relatively inexpensive and you won’t leave disappointed. However, Sophie’s is either super good or just blehhhhh, so take your chances. After receiving one too many bleeeeeeh meals from Sohpie’s, I’ve resulted to ordering it only when I’m hung over at the office. Red beans, white rice, roasted chicken, an orange Gatorade, and any knock off brand of ibuprofen will do the trick =P

I ordered the Baked Chicken Every Day Special with Fried Sweet Plantains and Chickpea Salad. The chicken is good, but the marinade sauce that it was drenched in was too salty, so the chicken, potatoes, and carrots were too salty as well. The sweet plantains and chickpea said were decent. Maybe I’ll try to order something else in the future.

Sophie’s serves Cuban food in the New York deli style. I had always thought it was a sit-down but there are no tables — it is pure take-out. My sandwich met my craving but I feel that the service is entirely geared toward speed — at the expense of quality. FOOD: My Cuban sandwich was partially prepared in advance of my order with the ham, cheese and pickle stacked on the bread so it could be quickly put on to the grill. Mayo, mustard and roast pork are added after the«pre-fab» parts are heated. It tasted good and filled craving. SERVICE: Orders are taken in a deli style, service line. The food server barks, in typical New York deli-style«Next !!!» to each customer. «I’d like a Cuban, please». Pre-fab(see above) goes on to a George Foreman style grill. Customer behind is met with«Next !!!». Once the pre-fab part is heated, the server returns his attention to me and asks, «What are you having?» to which I reply, «A Cuban». Mayo, mustard, roast pork are applied to the heated, pre-fab part. The entire sandwich is now slapped(aggressive action) on to paper wrapping and cut into two halves and swiftly wrapped in foil. Somewhere in there I was again asked what it was that I had ordered. Lots of places in there, the word«Next !!!» was barked out to customers who are only three feet away from the barker. There are several businesses that use the«Next !!!» method of serving their customers. A common theme of the«Next !!!» service model is that the server does not make eye contact and usually fails to recall each customer’s order. Orders are frequently repeated. As you can probably guess, I’m not a fan of the cattle-herding and impersonal«Next !!!» service model. I much prefer the«How may I help you?» service model that includes eye contact and a smile.

Expensive food. They give you very little meat and when you request for more even when you are willing to pay for it, they give you 2 pieces for 4.99. Let alone the food isn’t great. First and last time giving them my business. They’re a rip off. Had better food in the Bronx and Brooklyn.

I love Sophie’s Cuban Cuisine, for those end of the week lunches, after a tough week of work! It’s a treat, especially their famous Sophie’s green sauce(a variation of Aji Verde)! The portions are great, and the food is just outright comfort food! You’re going to get the itis afterwards! If you’re looking to be healthy, this place is not the establishment to hit! I also love their croquettes and empanadas! So all praise aside, they’ve currently removed all their seats in the seating area, apparently due to a rent dispute with the building owner, so it’s just take-out or delivery currently.

Don’t give them your credit card. I ordered online. And made a mistake. They said they would cancel the order and to reorder. They sent me the second order. But charged me for both. After calling for 2 weeks to have them take care of it they finally told me they wouldn’t do it. That I would have to make my bank handle it. They had the records. And admitted the first order was cancelled and still wouldn’t refund my money. It’s ridiculous for mediocre food.

Former New York Unilocaler(and I guess, friend) Vania K. can attest to this: when my office orders Sophie’s for lunch, it’s usually a cause for celebration. This is mainly because it’s a little further from the office, and we only go for Sophie’s when we’re really in the mood for it or if it’s a special occasion. Regardless of the occasion, it’s always a good time when we have Sophie’s for lunch. Since the weather has been more or less sunny and comfortable this summer, we as a group walk over together to the shop and pick up our food and enjoy it by the Brookfield Place waterfront. Gotta promote team-building, am I right? The lines move relatively fast, since a good deal of the food is on warming trays, so it’s not too much of a wait to get what you want. The place is actually incredibly no-frills, so don’t expect a super nice ambiance, and definitely do not dawdle while waiting in line, lest you want to get yelled at in colloquial, angry Spanish. The staff isn’t the one yelling at you, it’s usually the other, often hungry people in line. The daily specials usually include some sort of goat or oxtail stew, which are all pretty rich and kinda greasy, but definitely satisfying if you’re looking for a hearty meal. The classic cubano is done pretty well, albeit on the smaller side for $ 9. I’m also a fan of the pernil(pork shoulder) with a twist, which included plantains. The empanadas are also nothing to sniff at either, with my favorite being the spinach and cheese and the chicken empanadas. Make sure to get extra green sauce when you’re ordering, since the amount they give probably won’t be enough. I’m not even sure what they put into it, but it’s the perfect complement to all these hearty, richly spiced dishes. The catering is actually pretty good too, and you definitely get a good rate by buying«in bulk.» Note though, that the empanadas are slightly smaller, which is why they’re cheaper. The overall value is fine, given the location near of all these banks and such, but don’t expect dirt cheap prices. I can’t profess to know if the food is particularly authentic, but it certainly is tasty. Definitely worth a look at for takeout or a leisurely Friday lunch.

Excellent food, fast service(to go only) Been coming here for years. Always a good choice. In all honesty, everything on the menu is good. And don’t forget the spicy green sauce!(It’s really not that spicy, but it is excellent!)

Food was good but it took an hour for my food to arrive. When I called, the girl said she was just packing up my order. Umm huh? Isn’t the food already made? And I wasn’t too far either. I work at Brookfield Place which is about 10 – 15 minutes from here so really, an hour? On top of that, I got called and was told to meet the delivery guy downstairs. That he was unable to come upstairs since he needed to show ID. It made absolutely no sense considering Brookfield Place is a public location and there is no need for people to sign in or out to enter. Whatever. I won’t be ordering again

Been frequenting this Sophie’s location for years… I don’t even remember who first introduced me to it but I would love to thank them! At one point I would come here with coworkers all the way from Jersey City to pick up food. Thankfully I now work walking distance from here. My coworkers and I don’t frequent it for lunch too often, though, because we tend to overindulge on rice when we do then end up sleepy after lunch. For lunch I usually get a meal that includes a protein dish and two sides… today I had the salmon but I don’t get it often at $ 11.99 a pop. I didn’t want to overload with carbs so avoided my favorite moro rice, and am trying to avoid fried food(no fun!) so avoided the amazing plantains. Instead I had salad and avocado as my sides.(When did they start having avocado!). The salmon was a huge portion and very popular, so even without the rice and beans I was quite satisfied after. My favorites are the Chicken Fricassee and the Goat… but I don’t think either of these dishes are offered daily.

I work in the area so I eat at Sophie’s a lot. They are pretty consistent and the food is always fresh and savory, which is pretty good for a quick serve place. My favorites are the shrimp in garlic sauce, fried pork chop, and and roasted chicken. The croquettes are also slamming — and be sure to try the green sauce. Put it on everything. Those who don’t like onions, be wary… They top a lot of the entrees with grilled onions. Extra star for the price, great value. Reliable place for authentic Cuban-American cuisine.

Since it was 3pm I ordered a few random items just to keep me going until dinner. The empanadas were OK but nothing special and ditto on the cassava croquette. My two side items were plantains(the sweet type) they were slightly under cooked(so harder than they should be) and the the avocado slices which were excellent. Overall it’s OK, but a bit to bland for my taste.

Delicious food! I ordered on seamless for grilled chicken on white rice with fried sweet plantains. The taste is really good, Def will fill you up for lunch. The pricing is normal range that you would pay for around this neighborhood. It’s not too expensive and definitely not cheap. If you order online from seamless, just keep in mind that it will take very long even if your office or home is nearby. If you want your food to be here by 12pm, make sure you order at 1030 or 11am for it to arrive. The 30 – 45 minute wait is off, they take a bit longer for delivery. I’ve been ordering from Sophie’s because their food is really delicious despite the long delivery time, but hey– the food is still hot when it is delivered to your hands. I would recommend you to do takeout or pickup instead of delivery if you are close by so you can cut the wait time. Also, the staff has very friendly phone etiquette, which is a plus, because then you wouldn’t be as angry waiting for your food. Seriously, their food is delicious and worth it’s price. I gave 4 stars mainly because it really takes long for delivery.

When I get a cuban food craving I make some serious compromises. I happened to be around the Chambers St station and needed something quick for lunch. I noticed the Sophie’s Cuban Cuisines and knew thats where I was going. Walking in I noticed the«B» rating. Ay… the things you do for a semblance of the food you love. Inside they do not have a sit down area(seems there used to be one but not anymore.) I ordered their Pan con Bistec/Steak Sandwich. Comes with their«cuban» bread, mayo, chopped steak, tomato, and potato sticks. It was pretty decent but not what you would find at cuban restaurants in Miami.(~$ 9) They also have their hot food buffet. Previously Ive tried their yellow rice and beans and its definitely tasty. This is a solid option if youre around here and want some Cuban food.

Decided to try this Sophie’s because thankfully the Sophie’s on Fulton Street closed down. There were some serious issues going on there but that’s neither here nor there. I took a risk and rolled the dice to try this Sophie’s. Upon walking in I already noticed the«B» Grade in the window, great. This is already starting out bad. So I ordered the Steak with Yellow Rice and Beans. Now I will say that the rice and beans was much better than the rice and beans that they had on Fulton Street. That was one plus, the steak was actually good as well. This Sophie’s is far better than the one on Fulton but whats up with the«B» Grade. Sophie’s needs to really step they’re game up with meeting standard guideline codes for NYC. Id come back but would not frequent here by any means not sure if I trust this franchise.

Came here today in hopes of having a really bomb ass cubano and I must say I was decently satisfied… After watching that damn movie, Chef, I’ve been craving a damn cubano!!! Legit on a mission to find that crispity, crunchety, buttery bread with all tha works inside… The cubano I had here was so good I was throughly pleased. I’ve read that some do not like the sandwich but it was good!(Trust me, I’m half Puerto Rican) delish. Only downfall was the sandwich could have been bigger… It was 9 $ like really? In PR or any authentic place that has these gem sandwiches sells them for like 4 – 7 $… I mean I guess it’s nyc. Fiancé had the pernil with the twist sandwich he inhaled that in like two seconds… Interesting it had sweet plantains inside of the sandwich. How creatively tasty that was. 2 sandwiches and an empanada $ 20 …

Come here for hot Cuban takeout food at lunch and eat the leftovers for dinner. On your first time here: don’t bother to read the menu. You will be overwhelmed. Look at the hot food for what looks good and get two sides with it. Most meals are a little over $ 10, but there’s enough to eat for lunch and dinner. They don’t appear to sell vegetables though. Bring an apple to work next time. The plastic utensils are utterly useless, so find a real set of silverware. The breaded pork steak was a bit tough. Overall, it still tasted pretty good. Next time, I’ll probably get the roasted chicken quarters or the oxtail.
