The décor isn’t too impressive but I really liked the service I received there. I had my birthday party there this year, and they were great about making reservations and setting me up at a table that would work best for me. The bartenders worked reasonably fast and if not our waitress was always around when we needed her. My friends and I had a bast dancing the night away. Not one of the best places I’ve been to, but if you come with a big group you can make it great.

Boy oh boy oh boy is this place far out or what?! No wonder I had never heard of it. Seems even further on a bitterly cold Thursday night when one has to walk here from Penn Station. I was at Sol for the Stonewall Foundation’s annual gala, REVEL, which is why it was FAB! Open Orzel vodka bar, a wine sampling, and lots of friendly and attractive men. And by lots, I mean that the coat check to close within an hour of the party starting… Great music, and a pretty col space. The bathrooms could be cleaner, bigger and better laid out but I love the warehouse-height ceilings and such. I doubt I’d be here unless it was for a particular event/party such as REVEL or something…

I went here for New Years Eve 2008. I wanted to go to a club and celebrate it in new york for years at that point, but not having someone to go with in addition to being Russian(for them its pretty much a tradition to spend it with the family), and so when i finally had some interest from people I know, I researched it for a while and decided on Sol for having one of the best deals in addition to reading decent reviews about the place(not on Unilocal,if I have read Unilocal I would have probably made a better choice) So the tickets werent cheap($ 100?) but included an open bar and an open buffet as well in addition to admission of course. Well my cousin and I arrived there about an hour after the place was supposed to be open, and got ourselves a drink. At that point it wasnt too difficult to get a drink, also I am not too bad in pushing my way through when needed. The music was ok, it was mostly techno music and also some variety of 90’s music and some hip hop as well. My cousin was expecting hip hop only and so she was disappointed, I was somewhat as well. The buffet was OK but not better, the food ran out pretty quickly and although it was tasty, it was far from being filling and there wasnt much variety. After getting drink number two(which required much more pushing and patience) and finishing it we were about to go for drink # 3(open bar. come on) BUT the bar closed an HOUR before it was supposed to, which is a total scam. The people there werent too bad I assume, I didnt get to talk to many of them until later, while some PhD student was babbling in my ear about school, why did he think I would care is beyond me. Price-not cheap Drinks– too hard to get to People– not too bad Food– not enough and hard to get to music– average, maybe a little above at times and here I built all this suspense… will I come back again? hmmm, probably not, I may be over it right now, but I was pretty pissed at the time for the treatment that I got there, thank god for the free after party afterward at Home…

*hits forehead* why the hell did i agree to go to the Korean American Film Festival afterparty? why!!! well, because i’m stupid. i enjoyed the screenings that week– anyway, besides the lame event and seeing a few Korean celebrities… i didn’t enjoy Sol at all. stairs… why?! i don’t understand. they’re also so low that you don’t even notice you’re tripping over someone. it’s ugly. the booths are nasty and quite unmemorable. JYP(big time Korean music producer) and his buddies were chillin’ upstairs and cheering on their new artists and dancers. the entertainment was pretty non-entertaining. LOL. the lighting was eerie and blue that night… the balls that ascend from the ceiling are interesting. the bar area is small and double sided… however only ONE side was open for service. what?! lame! would i ever come back here? maybe… but you’d have to force me.

Trust me, I’m not a big club guy. But I was pressured into going to Sol on New Years Eve by some friends, and I went because I just wanted to spend new years with them. Tickets were around $ 100 each, which included admission, open bar, and open buffet, not that bad of a deal for new years eve in nyc I suppose. The crowd was very posh, mostly snobby people. It became tough to get drinks throughout the night because of how crowded it was. The buffet was a joke, it had soggy crab cakes and pigs in a blanket, that basically just made the place smell like a street vendor. We were promised a glass of champagne at midnight, which we never got because of the crowd. Dancing was fun if you could find any room, the music was alot of hip hop and techno stuff. Some short, fat, drunk asian tried to fight me for no reason, but the security guys understood what was going on and hauled him away. Countdown was fun, they had balloons drop down on everyone, and we had a fun new years. But it was definitely no thanks to the venue. We made a good decision spending more money to be with our friends who just had to go to Sol, but now I know I definitely won’t be going back there. Point me to the nearest dive bar!

Sol used to be a really hot spot back with , Anthony Michael, iclubNYC(Ricky), (Omar), and the rest were involved. They used to have amazing parties, with awesome themes. Their Cirque du Sol is always a hit! My only problem with them back then was their DJ selection. A few guys were really good, but many sucked ass. I havent hung out in Sol in a very long time. The team changed and the party got horrendous. It is probably a good place to go if you like getting in to fights.

Went there for my birthday back in July. I didn’t like it at all! This place was full of cheez-heads including the guys at the door. Luckily we didn’t wait long to get in but I wouldn’t have anyways.

so I went here for a friend’s birthday. I thought she had everything set up with them already. Apparently not. We came with about 4 girls and 5 dudes… to make a REALLY long story short… We had to beg to get a table, which required bottle service. Once the Guy at the door let us in, we were led to the middle of the dance floor, literally. There was no table… they had to set up little makeshift sqaure stools INTHEMIDDLEOFTHEDANCEFLOOR for our grou(and mind you, they had already taken my Credit card and ID to purchase the bottle of Grey Goose we ordered)… anyhow– we are not complaining… The waitress comes back with the Bottle and Juices and sets us up, meanwhile… there are ppl bumpin and dancin all over the place. We decide to pay cash… But WaiterGirl still keeps my cards, just to make sure we pay her… She was nice about it(thats why I gave it two stars)… The décor was cool– iw as feeling it, the huge chinese lanters and projections on the walls and ceilings were cool(again. thats why i gave it two stars)… My boy decided he wants a drink at the bar… Orders a jack on the rocks… Myself, a jack and coke, my friend, a Blue LI… price and size of the drinks. RIDIC($ 12, $ 12, $ 15). And there is a 40 dollar limit on your card… place got really crowded and a few wild fights broke out… cant say i would go back again… PLUS, its quite a long walk from the red line train on 28th street.(if ur by yourself).

Its scary how Ruby Falls has now reincarnated itself to Sol, a sunburnt version of what used to be here. The décor is virtually the same with the exception of more orange/red flares to compliment the sun ornaments everywhere and its actually pretty… lame. Service is more atrocious than its predecessor, with pushy bouncers and overly pretentious bartenders. There are some specials weekly ranging from Happy Hour to No-Cover nights, but aside from the spacious floor and good music, there is not much value to be found this far on the west side. Don’t let the sunlight here blind you into going back into the club.

it has potential as the setup is roomie enougj for a good party. but the crowd is strange. not feelin the vibe in there at all, not even with the music selection. leave this for the mainstream north jersey types, if you know what i mean.

I’ll echo these sentiments — the place is not great. Ruby Falls was a better time out for sure, but I do really like the décor of this place and the way the high cielings make you feel like it’s so much bigger than it is. A friend of mine used to host a Tuesday night party here that I went to on occasion, but it never really picked. I’m not sure if it was the venue or the attitude of the place(i liked it anyway), but somhow it never got off the ground. Something just ain’t right.

it wasn’t that horrible. but then again, i was there just to hang out with friends. and i didn’t expect much from the place, considering they stamped my hand with«asslicker.» seriously inappropriate. i definitely could have done without the full ten-finger/two-palm butt grabs as well. oh well. drinks were made strong. good for some, bad for others. just meant i made my cutoff earlier in the night. restrooms were decently nice and clean. décor was pretty. but the definite highlight of the night … the dancer. she had the hottest butt i’ve ever seen. i was mesmerized. and boy did she know how to work it. and oh, something must have happened that i wasn’t aware of, but they turned on the lights at 2:30 and made everyone leave. who ever heard of that? 2:30 in new york? ridiculous.

It was ghetto. However, there were also rocker trendy people and guidos(yuck). Music was decent… the only thing Sol has going for itself. I didn’t drink… so who knows how good their drinks are? Alot of trash. I had 2 guys bump into me(hard and they didn’t even acknowledge it!)… and one LITERALLY knocked me down and i fell :(A ghetto girl was screaming out the entrance to some guy that made a comment to her(classy). Also, something bad mustv’e happened b/c i saw some girl crying by the managers office as though someone killed her cat, while i was waiting on the line for the restroom. Not to mention… the promo guy/photographer(Omar) was trying to hit on me and grabbed me to dance… it was just NOT working! Not a fan of this place… So… if you enjoy getting bumped into, photographers/promo people grabbing you, guidos and ghetto people hitting on you every min… GO!

The old ruby falls is now sol. thats a good name cause i was shit out luck when i got there. very typical cheese club that attracts the cheeseballs. typical overweight door guy at the door thats making 100 dollars acting like he is God. Well he wouldnt let me in. Even though i was on a list for someone that had a table. Which leads me to ask, whats the sense of having a list if your doormen dont use it??? However i knew the door man did me a favor by not letting me in when i heard the music that was playing. BONJOVILIVINGON A PRAYER. Yes man that is right! How awful can it get. That song let me know what was going on iside and i was glad to be in on the outside. Im sure the crowd was filled with blow out haircuts and girls wearing clothes from jean country. However just from the doormen alone working the place I could tell its a bad atmosphere, my suggeestion to the owner(s). Fire your doormen they are obnoxious.
