Could not be happier! Socrates is so personable and nice to talk to. He is an artist and I got the best haircut I have had for 1⁄8 the price I usually spend. That man has a customer for LIFE!
I also foolish left my credit card behind, and he called to tell 4 hours later and held safely until I returned for it.

This man is an artist. He takes his time and he loves what he does. I’ve see him do every hair type, men and women, and they always come out looking fantastic. His prices are low but his service is of the highest quality. He says, ‘My job is to make you look beautiful.’ He absolutely does. I have think curly hair and I have never had a better hair cut. Ever. I will be his client for life.

The best haircut in town. Socrates has stood the test of time and provides a top-​notch haircut and shave. As a bonus, he’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. Recently moved away from NYC, but he’s my first stop every time I’m back in town.

This place is Awesome! They take the time to listen to exactly what you want. Or just show him a picture from any magazine and it’s done. Not your ordinary barber. They are stylist! It’s been 30 years now getting my haircut with Socrates and I went through a lot of different phases in my life getting different kind of haircuts. There is not any style of hair this man can’t do! Many ladies have also come out looking like models. I travel all the way from CT to get my hair done. He is the man! And his wife takes right after him. Very cool to talk to and funny.

Socrates is the best/​coolest hair designer I know. I’ve been going for his services since the early 1980’s when I was just a teenager working next door. It’s true, going there is an experience in itself, aside from the amazing haircut that everyone will absolutely love!!! The price is right too. The place is immaculate and they have the best hair gels and creams.

Socrates turns your haircut into an experience, it’s about talking, laughing, hanging out, and being part of the neighborhood (in spirit for those who don’t live on the L.E.S). Socrates cuts hair like an artist, takes his time, gets to know you and draws you into his world where time is not something that you focus on so don’t stop in expecting a quick haircut because art takes time ;) You will love what Socrates does with your hair, and his philosophy is all about loving life, family, and making new friends!

This is your typical old style barber shop with neighborhood roots. Socrates has been in this spot for 30 years and can let you in on all of what has gone on during the LES transformation.
For me, this is my ideal hair cut spot. Quick, attentive and old school. I get my head shaved so it is not rocket science, but I see a lot of people in there getting regular haircuts. Socrates shaves the back of the neck with the straight blade and makes sure you are all clean before going back out on the streets.
Haircuts are $ 14 and are worth every penny.
