I’m gonna start this review off by saying that everyone who wrote a bad review about the«rude staff» needs to take a chill pill and realize that maybe the staff came off rude because you’re a shitty person. Because from what I’ve experienced at slate and all other forms of nightlife is that your experience is somewhat reflective of you as a human being. Anyway, my friend reserved a table and got a bottle to celebrate her birthday. The gentleman working the door were very cordial(again, if you’re being a drunk dick then you are going to get that served nack to you in a nice cup of t and shade). Upon entering we had to wait a few minutes for a table only because the upstairs just re opened after a private event. My friends and I are not giant whiny babies so this was fine for us. We were sat and quickly greeted by our server, Marianna I believe her name was, who presented a bottle list for us. After a few minutes we were given mixers and our bottle of tito’s with sparklers coming out the top. The dancing didn’t really start to pick up until after 11 but I enjoyed how the dj got people onto the floor by playing a few throwbacks. Our generation is hard for the nostalgia so playing some late 90’s definitely helped. My boyfriend and I wanted to order drinks separately so we went to the bar. Didn’t have to wait long and even when we did it was because the place was busy. Once again, we are not oversized privileged children who expect to have anything and everything at the drop of a hat so waiting a few minutes in a CROWDED club is acceptable. The bartender was nice and friendly because we are nice and friendly people who smiled at her, asked her how she is doing, and knew what we wanted to drink before even reaching the bar as opposed to wasting her time looking around, asking questions, and trying to figure out what the rest of our party wanted. The security was top notch too. Again, smiling and being kind to people goes a long way. I normally don’t like to go to clubs because I get groped but I felt pretty safe with this security team around. They were quick to bounce two drunk kids who tried to grab a girl. We never ordered another bottle though because our party ended up small and only needed one to get what the kids say is «lit». I could understand how if we had ordered another bottle it may have taken some time but that’s because they are people dancing and grinding on each other EVERYWHERE. Literally, I thought someone was getting impregnated in front of our table. I loved it. All around I will say that this spot is what you make of it. If you come in acting like an entitled twat then you will be treated as such. But I had a seamless and awesome night.

I love this place. I think it’s a great place to hang out as well as go to the club and dance. I do like how they have games and lounging downstairs. You can order expensive plates as well. They try to be fancy but it’s bar food — the disgusting kind. I put pictures up, and let me tell you, looks can certainly be deceiving here. Don’t order anything I did. The club always has great music, and I love that their dance floor is huge. There’s dancers you can watch as well, and there’s places to sit for all you heel-wearers. No cover, which is an absolute positive. I definitely recommend coming here if you want to dance!

My friend ordered bottle service here for his birthday and it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had with bottle service. We arrived early in the night, around 10:30/11 before the place was popping. We got our bottles and accompanying mixes. First, the mixes were watered down and disgusting. Even when we had good alcohol, many of us didn’t want to drink it with bad mixes and chasers. Therefore we wanted to order some cocktails from the bar, it took us 30 minutes for a waitress to come by our table. When we ordered we thought she would be come back with the drinks and she NEVER did. Then we went to the bar to order drinks and those also never came to our table. Out of all the times we tried to order cocktails for the table, we ended up getting two drinks each over a time frame of 3 hours because the there was NOTABLESERVICE. The music was also mehh.

Was a guest is a wedding and I was horrified at the staff. Rude to the guests. This place is hard to find any run by an unfriendly group. Very little parking so they make you buy a valet. I just remember some staff member hovering over us t mo see if we were ok. It was over the top lady. I’m fine. I just remember a brunette bragging being an owner but she looked all of 12 while telling on another employee to a co owner. Tacky stuff like that.

If I could give a negative review I would but unfortunately that isn’t an option. My girlfriend wanted to go to slate for her bday so I decided to get bottle service and invite a few friends. BIGMISTAKE! Through correspondence my understanding was we would have a place set for my party and when I arrived that was not the case, we had to wait like 10 minutes for them to clear a place and for us to be seated. So we finally get our table which is this 4 by 4 little square table which was suppose to accommodate 9 people, however I was told the table would be rectangular and I did see a couple but we apparently couldn’t have one of those. Our server then comes and I ask her about my bottles and she said she will get the stuff rolling. Another server came over to us and told us to move down and my friends told her no because we have 9 people sitting here and she walked away .We waited for almost 45 minutes for the bottles to come and yet the party that walked in like 20 minutes after us received their bottle within literally 15 minutes… hmmmm I wonder why ??(that party was Asian and Caucasian). As the night went on everyone just said forget it and we danced and made the best out of it at this point they had already had my card on file so I just said forget it lets party we danced and the server came around twice then once more to give us our check(I of course was in the bathroom at the time, but no biggie) so then when I came out I was told my girlfriend(the birthday girl got kicked) ugh so I go outside to hear what happen and wait for the driver and the story was a person in my party was dancing with some Asian chick and another person in her party was upset so he started going after the person in my party(oh yeah we are Hispanic and african American… so I wonder why we’re were the only ones that got kicked out) another member of my party was trying to defend his cousin and my girlfriend tried to hold him back so they all In turn got kicked out except for the Asians who initially started it, go figure. I just left it alone because I’m like of i will call tomorrow which I did and finally reached someone after like 10 calls I talk to the coordinator to voice how I felt about the situation and asked to speak to the GM who still hasn’t called me back but im sure one they see the review its going to be im sorry we were so busy and maybe call me back. My advice is unless your Asian or Caucasian just stay away from there. There Are plenty of other places to go have fun In The city with better bottle service and who aren’t racist .oh i negated to mention before that security would frequently come around and look at my party or say something too but yet the people around us had no problems. I’m just so over this place my warning to you is JUSTDONTDOIT !! Hope I could be helpful

We had slate rented for a charity event on a Tuesday night. The venue itself is very nice. The event was Mardi Gras themed. There was a red carpet and the event was fully catered. If you are looking for a more laid back club experience. Slate is the place for you. They have 2 full bars and lounge areas. Slate is different than any club I have been to in the city. They have a full DJ spinning and the same light effects as any high end night club. The only thing different are the areas with knock hockey tables and fooseball. The atmosphere is more socially friendly. I have had VIP at some of the hottest nightclubs in Vegas, NY and Miami. Non of them had fooseball tables haha. The drinks at slate were around $ 14 depending on what you get obviously. The drinks were strong at the upstairs bar I like it. The staff was very nice. The security guards were very nice. They would ask if everything was good. The coat check was a nice change so you don’t leave your jacket in the middle of winter. The food was catered. Everything was excellent. Started with appetizers and fried goodies. Fried mac and cheese, chicken quesadillas and crab cakes. They had a vegetarian quesadilla. For the dinner. There was 2 stations with 7 hot trays each. The one food area had hot sandwiches like fried chicken. Crab sandwiches. And mini burgers and falafel sandwiches. At the second food station there was hot trays with ziti, Mac and cheese, pulled pork, ribs salad wings. Overall slate was nice. The staff was very accommodating. The bartenders were constantly busy. The food was very good for bar bite style food. I do recommend trying slate out if you would like a different club experience. PROS: — staff was nice. — club has a coat check. — they have knock hockey and fooseball in the club!!!

*** Great selection of music, Free drink(check in on Unilocal), large dance space*** This is a great club/bar vibe with a great selection of top 40’s, hip hop, reggaeton. In addition, there’s a main dance floor and a bottom floor where you can find pool tables, ping pong tables, seating area, etc. Check in on Unilocal for a free drink. Coat check is $ 4.

Came here for a friends birthday and was disrespected and treated terribly by one of the employees. Not sure of his name, but he was of Asian decent and had a man bun and was very rude. I will not be going back if this is the type of customer service I receive and if these are the type of employees hired. I’ve been to many lounges in the city and I have never been treated this way or threatened. This is a good reason why companies should watch who they hire because it reflects the overall venue.

This is a great afterwork happy hour spot with the option to dance into the night. Happy hour specials include $ 3 drafts, $ 4 well, and $ 6 house wine. They play top 40s along with the occasional hip hop and r&b throwback. The crowd is typically a mix but mostly young professionals. The space is large, with 2 floors. Upstairs you have complimentary coat check upon arrival, a large bar and tons of lounge seating surrounding the dance floor. If you’re seated at a table there are servers who come around to take your order(including drinks). They will actually tell you not to go to the bar to order… trying to get them tips, but I don’t blame them. They also work with you to split the bill in advance if you are with a larger party. Downstairs there are a bunch of pool tables, ping pong tables, and picnic style communal tables where you can play an array of board games from checkers, to jenga, to connect 4, to a classic card game of spades or spit. And of course a huge bar in the back. They are really good at coordinating events. I’ve hosted several fundraisers here without any problems. Yay! I’m a fan.

The bottle service and VIP table isn’t worth it at all here. The whole thing felt awkward. Music was terrible last night, the DJ kept playing music from when I was in middle school, it was corny. I would only come here to play pool in the lower level, prices for pool are reasonable. But everything else was bad

Every time I want to go out and have a good time. I always choose slate. I consider this my go to bar when I don’t know where to go. How could you not like it here! Pool tables downstairs, no cover charge, drinks fairly priced, music is bumping and everything is clean and neat! I also came here on Halloween 2016, the DJ did An awesome job! Their happy hour deal was so strong that I got wasted so quick that the night became unmemorable. From what I remember I had a good time! Gotta love slate!

This two level club/bar/lounge/billiards hall/ping pong center/sports bar has so much to offer and I would’ve liked it if it wasn’t for some of the sleazy tactics pulled on us last Friday night. One in particular is to watch your bill for any funny math! See my uploaded receipt. This place would make for a great midweek work function if you rented out the basement but I had a whole different experience by getting«bottle service» on a Friday night for my friend’s birthday. Let’s start out with what worked and end with what didn’t. The Three Pros: — The dance floor and bar are on top floor where the DJ spins his beats and is nicely divided from a chill environment downstairs where the music is quieter. It’s a great way to go back and forth to change the pace of your night — The basement has a bunch of games you can play from ping pong, pool, and shuffleboard($ 17/hour) or $ 15/all night for foosball — There is even chess and jenga on the communal picnic tables. Grab a drink from the bar downstairs and pick up a game The Many Cons: — I wasn’t the first to arrive and I wasn’t the birthday boy, but when I came in and saw that we got bottle service«downstairs» I was just in disbelief. It was literally a sectioned out cushioned area right next to the billiards tables. Who the hell sells«bottle service» at a billiards hall? It wasn’t my birthday so I didn’t complain. — Bottles still go for a 12x markup($ 350 for a bottle of grey goose) in what I dub the basement game room — There is a TV next to our table tuned to a muted ESPN talk show. I asked if we can just stream an ULTRA music festival youtube video and they couldn’t do that. Turning the TV off would’ve been better for the mood — «Bottle Service» doesn’t include the $ 17/hour game fee. Even if you spend close to $ 1,000 with this place — By the time we got to our fourth bottle and we were nowhere close to done, our waitress comes by and tells us they are closing the basement at 1am. What do you want us to? Chug the bottle? Fortunately they were able to relocate us to a smaller table upstairs right next to the rowdy dance floor — Saving the worst for last. Check your bills! A 20% gratuity was added which makes sense for large«premium» parties but the calculations are off! On my $ 350 subtotal bill, the 20% gratuity they gave themselves was $ 85. $ 85 is ~25% of $ 350. 20% of $ 350 is $ 70. Sober up for that one second when you get the bill and watch out for some math mismatch

Came here about 10−15ish times, there is no cover charge which is always a plus. However there is a «mandatory» coat check. Which is clearly not properly regulated since I walked right in with my jacket on last night and then when my friends wanted to go drop off their jackets, they said «Absolutely no entry with jackets». –yeah okay. Bartenders looked dead and actually makes the bar look depressing, some asian women and some other dude. Drinks pricing wasnt that off the charts you would expect; Corona — 7 $ Venue didnt have as many spills on the floor, they definitely had more on-floor staff yesterday which was killing everyone’s vibe. «Excuse me, you must step out of the way» was something you’d hear anywhere you went almost like it’s remixed into the background music. Downstairs was closed and for those that mingle; Ratio was like 4;1 Came here to hangout for my boy that took a leave vacation from the marines, and much regretted spending time here. Shouldve went elsewhere! OVERALL, nothing impressive at all, only thing that I sometimes appreciate is the black lighting which I feel lets you get funky without being glared down(: Ninja style dancing(:

Listen, I’m not from NYC so I don’t want to pretend I am but I do live in the city. I would consider this place to be very«bridge and tunnel». I picture a bevy of young guys and ladies coming over in there party clothes ready to «rage» at Slate. We went as a group and were treated like hobos on arrival. We gave our reservation name at the door and it’s almost like were made it up. He radioed inside and we were finally allowed to enter after the«stamp» of approval was received. We went to watch some NFL playoff games with a group and the games were on. It became very clear that only three people we were watching the games and there was no volume on the game, just LOUD party/dance music. The drinks were lackluster at best, just a bunch of guys making«drinks» for people who have very little caliber of fine cocktails. At one point, I attempted to use the restroom and there was a leak and water was everywhere in 2 of the 3 stalls. The attendant basically told me, I’d have to come back whenever she was finished which is fine but her attitude was less than stellar about it. I watched a handful of bro-sefs scam on chicks, hopefully they made some headway Basically, if you are into loud music, over priced not well made cocktails, and bumping into people looking to take you home, Slate is for you. In fact, if your in «that phase» in your life, you will probably love it but unfortunately in a city of this magnitude you can do so much better. Not my scene and I would not return but given the crowd there I don’t think I would be missed.

Poor excuse for a club establishment in New York City. Obviously this place is poorly managed. My friend probably purchased 5 glasses of wine and was charged for tap water. Tap water!!! Isn’t this against the law or something? another bartender named Andrew told her that he doesn’t give water and that he only sells water when she purchased all these glasses of wine. He would not even give her a glass of ice. He just sold her some expensive voss water! I also tried to claim the free drink on Unilocal with the bartender, who told me to go to the front to redeem the drink. The front told me she had no drink tickets. If you’re going to post on Unilocal that you give a free drink, you should or just not post at all. Only one star given for the music which had a nice selection but that’s about all from this place. Why come here when there are so many other cool places in New York?

Went for a friends birthday on a Friday night and had a fun time. Taking off 1 star because the bottles are too expensive and the drinks from the bar are not well mixed and on the(very) strong side. Got there around 10:45pm and there wasn’t much of a line. The space is really nice inside, DJ was great and dance floor was packed(almost too crowded). In terms of the music and atmosphere, it was perfect. Our friend had a table in the far back corner and we had bottle service — $ 325-$ 400 each. We got 3 bottles and it was just ridiculous. Despite that, the service was good because a guy kept coming to pick up used glasses and give us new ones. Bottom line, pre game a birthday party, don’t bother with bottle service and just come to dance. Update: Saturday is the day to go here! The downstairs area was open with the pool tables, classy crowd and awesome music. Lots of space to dance, mingle, and have a good time.

This place has been around for quite some time with the likes of Taj and the ever so changing spots across the street. 21st street btwn Broadway &5th always has been and always will be a hot block in the city. Every time I come here the music is good. Management picks the DJ’s well here. I remember coming here before they had the outrageous number of televisions and having a good time and now I see that the TV’s just up the ante for the competition on the block. Surprisingly what I did not know until recently is that the food here is really freakin good. Who woulda knew?! The chicken wings are amazing and the sliders are freshly cooked beef. I must say I was impressed. We were just hungry not expecting much and were pleasantly surprised. Appears that they play the major sporting events here so I wont hesitate to come back in the future and grab some more wings and watch sports! Free beer with check in too :-)

What the heck are you thinking to mix pingpong tables and billards tables. Do you even play pingpong or billiards? And why is my $ 16 whiskey full of water filled in a cheap thin plastic cup?

I would definitely suggest coming back to this split level sports bar for happy hour. On the top level is where the bar, lounge areas and DJ. Downstairs are the pool tables, ping pong tables, and foosball . As we walked up to the bar for drinks, we asked for the beer special since it was during happy hour. The bartender pointed at the beers on the shelf. So, we got 2 Corona’s. We were very confused when the bartenders said $ 14.00. We thought that was too pricey at that time. Especially when your on a budget. So we asked again and to clarify things, the beer on tap is for happy hour. So for those of you on a budget, the tap beer is $ 4.00 and bottle beers are $ 7.00 which are reasonable as well. The DJ was off the chain. Overall, a nice spot to hit up after work.

If you look up «confusion» in the dictionary you will find a picture of staff from Slate’s facial expression when presented with a patron’s group-on. I came here on a Friday night with a group-on that read: «two drinks, two apps, and one game» making sure there were no exclusions included in fine print. Called to make a reservation for around 10pm, the girl on the phone says«just come in, as of now we have a few open tables». We go, we wait on a ridiculous mandatory coat check line for two sweaters(the weather was 60 degrees outside so what coat am I wearing). I proceeded to hand my group-on to the hostess and that’s when the confusion started. First, I was sent to the upstairs bar to redeem it, the bartender there was baffled and called a manager, the manager directs us to the downstairs bar, and then that bartender looked confused and sent us back up to the front hostess.(WOW) Thank God a second hostess was there and MAYBE attended the staff meeting that said«hey guys we are using groupons and this is how to redeem them» because she took full control of the situation.(She walked us back downstairs to the bar, handed us menus, spoke to the bartender, and put our names on the list for a pool table to play) – she is the reason I gave it one star. The bartender was the other reason – she was great. Attempting to get our drinks, she suggested secretly that since there are no price restrictions we should play this smart and order the most expensive things off the menu HAHA. We got top shelf liquor and two expensive apps. *Summary of night: After that, the atmosphere was dry – drunk Asians dancing on 30 something year old corporate dudes in suits and ties. Upstairs, flooded with blacks and some cool college crowds dancing to pathetic top 40 music. The bar menu outside of the group on looked pricy so we didn’t even bother to continue drinking.* There are so many more clubs, bars, lounges cooler, cheaper, and more fun than this spot. Having napkins that say«Slate» must be the reason why I have to pay a mandatory coat check for a sweater. I WILLNEVERCOMEBACK!
