After reading the other reviews, particularly the one written by the person from philly, I was psyched to try the«authentic» wiz wit-out(that’s a cheesesteak with cheese wiz and no onions for those not from philly). The steak itself was basically frozen steakums and the«wiz» tasted bland and like a cheepo brand cheese sauce. It wasn’t awful, but not even the best cheesesteak I have had on Staten Island(the one from the food express truck across from home depot on forest ave is much better). The cheesesteak here, while resembling a authentic on, tasted nothing like a real one you would get from Jim’s or other great cheesesteak joints in philly. The fries that everyone was raving about were standard frozen fries, with their own seasoning added. The seasoning tasted like a mix of cayanne pepper salt and garlic powder, and tasted pretty good.(the deep fryer also looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a year. The baskets were black and caked with old oil). I will go back to try the chicken cheesesteak possibly in the future.

I really enjoyed the cheese steak with the cheese wiz. It really reminded me of an authentic South Philly cheese steak! I had two problems with the place. First, the person working behind the counter was not wearing a hair net so a long hair was found in my food. Second, the overall cleanliness of the establishment isn’t so great. I wouldn’t mind going there when Simon is working because the place seems to be much cleaner and well organized.

I was somewhat skeptical about the food after reading the reviews here, but the jerk chicken cheesesteak I ordered was so good and flavorful! Small hole in the wall places are definitely the best, this one included. Service was prompt and friendly. I would definitely go back next time I am in Staten Island.

Was doing a walk of Staten Island and the clouds over head started to get pretty ominous and it started to downpour so we headed to the closest place nearby to eat. Ran into Simons with my boyfriend and started chatting it up with the guy behind the counter. We both are from Philly and his claim to have the best cheesesteaks was a little far fetching. This was a shack on Staten Island what does this guy know about a Philly Cheesesteak. Well were we wrong. He told us that he used to own a place in Philly and it was a place I knew well. He pretty much invented the chicken cheesesteak… the articles are on the wall! Well the cheesesteak was awesome and the fries were killer. I live off of Wall street and I would take the ferry over again just to get another steak from him. He is a super nice guy too. Not sure why some people find him rude. The place is tiny but the flavors of the chicken cheesesteak are huge. Big chunks of chicken just like how I remember from Ishkabibbles on South Street BUT better. A great find on Staten Island and it’s right across from the Staten Island Yankees stadium. I hope he is around for a while. Nice guy great food.

One of the owners, not Simon, is extremely rude and unprofessional. When he is working he has the music blasting like you are in a night club. You can barely hear yourself order. He offers unpleasant experiences and is nothing short of ghetto. It’s unfortunate that Simon lost a customer due to the arrogant non professional man working there now.

Simon’s Steaks is beyond a guilty pleasure, it is a dangerous habit! The burgers are enormous juicy and mouthwateringly delicious… the fries… uh, yes please! Salty, crispy and hot as hell. AS a native New Yorker, so NOT a Philly cheesesteak purist, I thought the cheesesteaks were excellent and my picky Philly friend says they are better than most NY versions of the iconic Philly phavorite. Owner, Ben is a Philly transplant and now a neighborhood guy and is the nicest guy on the block! This a great stop for locals and tourists alike… a tiny little joint right across from the ferry! Limited seating inside, some table outside when the weather is fine… mostly for take out. So find a bench, enjoy the view of the city and dig in!

This place replaced the hot dog establishment that was here before. The cheesesteaks — their specialty is chicken cheesesteaks, about which I was skeptical — are delicious. They had a bunch of tables set up on the sidewalk for the grand opening. The fries were superfresh and very well seasoned too. Not the fastest service, but very nice.
