Like an old friend. With bad garlic breath. I can’t vouch for anything else, but the pollo al ajillo is one of the great wonders of world cuisine. Haven’t tried much else, and when i have, been disappointed, but the garlic chicken is out of this world. And the white sangria complements it nicely.

I returned on June 9, 2016 and the place is dependable and remains delicious. The male waiters are no-fuss, all business. We shared the 1st paella on the menu and I took home the doggy bag. Come here if you have the appetite to eat.

My favorite place in NYC. Have been going here my entire life. My family started going here in the 70’s. The favorite appetizer is the shrimp with green sauce. As a meal I love the seafood paella. It is absolutely delicious and by far the best paella I’ve had. For dessert, the flan and cappuccino are my favorites. It is a small restaurant with a great feeling and ambiance. I highly recommend going.

OMG — brought my 12 yr old after his spring concert to get him excited about an upcoming trip to southern Spain. We walk by on W 4th on many days and I had always been curious. Wish I had kept Walking. I agree with the«old school» and authentic Village comments. Most of the early Crowd was ancient, back in the day when meat and fish were routinely well done. The plates, glassware and flatware were totally old Diner quality. The kitchen did not waver from the old school notion. First the appetiser Course was chopped iceberg lettuce with an anaemic slice of tomato covered with an institutional Russian(maybe) dressing. Then my glass of Rioja was corked. The waiter was surprised and asked several of his colleagues to give it a sniff. Finally the manager produced a new bottle to pour. As to the main show, when I asked«what do you recommend for kids?» He recommended the fried chicken with almond sauce — my son did not enjoy. I tried it, my reaction«yuck!». Simply slippery, totally bland, white meat chicken inside some unknown thick crust smothered in ¼ inch of a sickly sweet sauce. I asked, «best fish?» And was told the snapper, the texture reminded me of a cross between old scrambled eggs and stiff mashed potatoes, masking this nastiness, the fish was swimming in a salty/sweet sauce of onions, peppers topped with fresh cilantro and the grilled shrimp«garnish» on the snapper had zero taste and texture of last night’s garlic shrimp. We did not stick around long. When the check was Produced, I dutifully added $ 16 to the $ 88 total and the realised the tally Was actually $ 95. So, I told one of the waiters that they had not Charged me correctly — they forgot to add the tax. The manager argued that the totals For the food and wine were correct and added to $ 88.00. It took several attempts to get them to acknowledge they had undercharged me. Lastly, when the revised check was produced the suggested tip was calculated based on the amount with tax. Really?

The food was delicious, service was impeccable, and even though my husband who had just left work(in construction,) was not dressed appropriately for the atmosphere, the server treated him like he was dressed in a tux! No complaints!

In a word — charming. Old-world type of vibe. Solid food. I opened the door, saw the lovely dark wood paneling, got a feel for the vibe, and immediately wished I wasn’t wearing a hoodie. It’s a charming place where you can wear a tux or dress and fit in, or you can wear a collared shirt /nice pants and fit in just as well. Sangria, paella of all kinds, scallops, seafood galore. I also tried their crab-meat stuffed mushrooms appetizer, and it was good.

I ate here tonight after a hiatus of about 6 years. There are good reasons for not having eaten there for so long, such as(1) the food was always mediocre and(2) El Charro Espanol was right nearby and far superior. But El Charro recently closed, so against my better judgment, I decided to give this place another chance. Unfortunately, the food was far worse than I remembered. It was probably worse than the time — about 10 or 12 years ago — that a meal at Sevilla kept me up all night vomiting, which was the main reason for my previous multi-year hiatus. I live less than a block away and if the food didn’t suck so bad, I’m pretty sure I would have dined at this restaurant more than once every 5 or 6 years. But, unfortunately, everything we ate was pretty bad, and all of it was way too salty. Most of it was worse than what you’d get at a Long John Silver’s or Howard Johnson’s. Some of it was completely inedible. We tried shrimp with garlic sauce. Cod with green sauce. Claims with garlic sauce. Gazpacho. Fried calamari. It was all pretty disgusting, and none of it seemed fresh. Nothing we had was good. The food ranged from pretty bad to completely disgusting. It’s a nice spot, and it’s been around a long time, but I’ll never eat here again. Never. It’s charming but the food is nothing short of nasty.

The food was amazing, but the only downfall was how long it took to get our checks at the end. This has happened the past couple times we’ve visited. But the food brings us back every time! The garlicky goodness :) Started with the stuffed mushrooms and croquetas. Both very delicious. My friend got the clam and I got the Mussels, both in the Ajillo sauce. The food is always amazing, just wish the service was a little faster. We were there for almost 2hrs, and when we got there it wasn’t very busy(4 tables at most).

Sevilla, yo te quiero. Su paella es muy deliciosa. Su arroz con pollo fue mas deliciosa! Seriously, the arroz con pollo was even better than our paella valencia — what a pleasant surprise! There was sausage in it too and it had just the right kick. The rice wasn’t as dry either; it had a nice sauce in it. The room is absolutely gorgeous; I felt like I stepped in a time machine. I could only imagine what the neighborhood looked like when this first opened. My mouth was a little dry after dinner though and I felt slightly bloated, so I wonder what kind of sauces they used(I’m sensitive to preservatives/heavy sauces). It was damn tasty though. And paella is one of my favorite foods, mm! Glad I finally tried this historic venue.

What Sevilla may lack in space and service it makes up for with food and old-school charm. This West Village restaurant is crowded and packs them in. Even getting to the restrooms can be a challenge. And service is definitely not a strong suit. The food is why you come here, onve you get past the mediocre salad. The Paella and Arroz con Pollo were delicious.

Sevilla is perhaps the best in class of this type of restaurant: old school dining with recipes from the old country. In this case the old country of which I speak is Espana. My guests and I ordered what we typically order whenever we visit these sorts of places with the addition of mussels in spicy garlic sauce – the highlight of the evening. The balance of our order consisted of two pitchers or red sangria; Valencia paella; chicken, sausage and rice; and, finally, grilled squid(calamari). After promptly consuming the first pitcher of sangria, the food tasted great. Perhaps we should have eaten first? Please keep this in mind if you visit and you have a very different experience. Staff was adequate and so was the service. All this means is that no one was pissed off and the food and drinks was delivered within the expected timeframe. Not bad for a place that was still busy at 10PM. I’ll be back just as soon as I recover from the second pitcher…

Sevilla’s food is solid! In many ways,(for me) food is always delicious. Everything from appetizers to desserts, are made tastefully. I always go for the triple-hitter: red sangria, Paella a la Marinera(Seafood only Paella made with no chorizo since I don’t eat pork) and Almond Cake. And I couldn’t be more excited, to have the same three items-time and time again, with some exception and include other goodies in between. Sevilla is not your one-trick pony restaurant. Apart from its unpretentious, old-world, interior vibe, it still keeps an intimate flair. Mr. Man and I, have set out to trek from White Plains and dine here at least once a month, because aside from the tasty, typical Spanish food, service is consistently good. On our most recent visit, the owner, pulled up a chair– as if we’ve been besties like for ages and struck a conversation with me about the good old days. You go to Sevilla to chill and enjoy your meal. Don’t expect hurried meals here. The tempo in Sevilla is friendly yet, leisured. And the warm welcome as you’re entering, is equally the same as the send off.

The smell alone lured me into this charming restaurant. Very friendly staff who were more than accommodating to us and those around us. I actually wish I came with a larger party so I could try more of the menu in one sitting! Unfortunately I was here on business so I couldn’t try the tempting sangria. The paella also looked unreal, I should have splurged and went for it.

Had the paella a la marinera and the empanadillas de pollo. The seafood used for the paella tasted frozen and the shrimp were over cooked. The empanadillas were a bit bland, but with salt they were ok. Try Soccarat in Chelsea. Much better tasting paella and fresher tasting seafood.

Another restaurant that I would like to be stuck in inclement weather. This time, it was snowing and it was so-o-o perfect to be in Sevilla. Whenever I’m in the West Village area, I make it a priority to dine in Sevilla, because it’s delicious Spanish food and service has not steered me wrong. Exterior is beautiful(to me): nice large windows, a nice old-fashioned European canopy and accent exterior panels in black. For some reason, I love that Sevilla is situated on a corner and in an area, where to me, its sidewalks and streets, just add some sort of funky charm. Interior on the other hand is also attractive(to me) and so freaking cozy and wonderfully dim. Panels are similar to an extremely dark cherry wood. Ship wheel ceiling lamps adorn Sevilla as well as several small cute lamps throughout, that add a nice touch. There are paintings of bulls, a flamenco dancer and a bullfighter all around the restaurant. As well as gorgeous ceramic decorative plates, that are so beautifully painted with an Arab-esque hint to them. The restaurant has a nice vintage appearance which I always dig. At least 2 of Sevilla’s servers I know, since I’ve been dining here in the last 14 years, wear a traditional waiter jacket in burgundy– can’t get any more old-fashion than that! Now for the food… Sevilla takes ultimate pleasure in providing the best tasting Paella and other Spanish staples. Their Sangria is perfect with the right ratio of fruit and wine. Nothing more distasteful that drinking sangria and it’s freaking overloaded with fruit! Sevilla’s Sangria is highly potent with the right amount of sweetness. Ultimately, dinner was fantastic on a snowy day and having spent more than 3 hours lounging in Sevilla, was perfect from beginning to end.

Traditional Spanish. Emphasis on traditional. Came upon this place by borrowing a jacket from my Uncle interestingly enough — reached in the pocket I found a old book of matches for this restaurant. So I asked my Uncle about it who had lived in the city for many years, and he had great memories of this spot from the 80s, and he’ll come back time to time when he has a craving for Spanish. I’ve spent a lot of time in Spain — both in the form of travel and extended stay(I studied abroad in Madrid for 5 months). This place is most definitely the closest thing to an authentic Spanish dining experience you will find in New York. Everything from the menu and the décor to the staff/service and the atmosphere makes you feel as though you’ve been transplanted to the old-guard Iberian peninsula. Food is good, but you have to appreciate traditional Spanish recipes, which I realize is not for everyone. You won’t find swanky/creative/modern tapas dishes here. The wait staff are older Spanish gentlemen who take pride in keeping their native palate alive here in the states and are passionate about sharing that with you. Interestingly, I noticed while dining that there was pretty substantial Spanish patronage — and I’ve come to learn that Spaniards on trips to New York will often make this place a part of their visit to have a taste of home. As this is a Spanish restaurant, don’t be shocked to wait a while for a table if you don’t have a reservation(or even if you do). People take their time. Dinner will drag on for a couple hours as dessert wines and postres are slowly consumed. Overall, I’d recommend this place for anyone who knows they can appreciate traditional Spanish — but if that’s not your style, this is not the place for you.

Food was good and generously served(paella a la marinera), meal wasn’t too expensive as a gentle server advised us to get one dish of paella for two. Other than that: service was truly terrible! We called the day before to make a reservation, but on the night they dismissed us saying they never take reservations, and then trying to convince us we called the wrong restaurant(with the same number — nice try!). We had to ask for everything, from seeing the menu to having water… Over all, they were mostly discourteous, especially the old guy who was apparently running the show. One thing is certain: I won’t come back.

I collect types of restaurants and love Spanish ones. This is one of them. Consistently delicious and authentic food, old timey charm, popular with foodies. Best sangria I have had since Spain. They don’t take reservations, though. Come on a weekend night and expect to wait in very tight quarters being pushed and bumped into by fellow guests, as there is NOWHERE to wait. I almost sat on someone’s table by accident Friday night and cuddled with the coat rack(I think we’re going steady now, actually).

Came here for a late lunch with my family the day after Christmas. It’s an old school Spanish restaurant and I love the décor and that the waiters are all wearing burgundy tuxedo jackets. My parents used to come here together when they were just dating and said it was just like they remembered. Most of the dishes come in large pots and are actually big enough to share. Whenever we go to this type of restaurant we get garlic shrimp as an appetizer and this one did not disappoint. I would definitely love to come back here again soon. And also don’t forget to get the sangria!

Was hoping for a bit of quirky Old New York charm, and instead got mediocre food, disinterested and sexist service(the sullen waiters only spoke to my husband, never to me), overblown prices and a ridiculously long wait to flag someone down to clear our plates and bring our checks. You could go to virtually any other of the million restaurants within a two block radius here and spend less on better food with servers who can actually bring themselves to converse with members of BOTH sexes. There’s just no redeeming quality here — the«famed» shrimp in green sauce is highway robbery at $ 26 and tastes more bland and uninspired than an Olive Garden entrée. The sangria people inexplicably rave about isn’t even real sangria(soaked overnight) — it’s a bunch of cheap liquor and discount plastic barrel wine they pour to order at the bar. After the disappointing food and drinks and surly service we just wanted to leave but couldn’t, as they added insult to injury by making us sit for 30 minutes at our uncleared table as we tried in vain to flag down one of the multiple servers who sauntered by our table but refused to stop and clear it or bring our check. Though it may look quaint from the outside, I can tell you from experience that’s where the charm ends.

I have visited this establishment a hundred times in the last 30 years. By far is the best Spainard food in NYC. Everything is so tasty from the appetizers, the sangria and the entrees. I have recommended many friends and tourist to this establishment and the same results — FANTASTIC! My favorite is the stuffed mushrooms with crab meat in garlic and olive oil. The veal chops are the best and tender. Shrimps in green sauce — forgetaboutit! Lobster tails — OMG! I read some reviews that the staff was slow but I beg to differ. The staff is caring and excellent. They must be doing something right for being in business serving the great food since 1941. Go to this place and taste and see for yourself. Oh and the prices are not that expensive for good food, drink and atmosphere.

Restaurants come and go, but Sevilla has been a Village staple for as long as I remember. While not necessarily the best game in town, they’re doing something right. My daughter and I are one-trick-ponies when we go for Spanish: chicken villaroy, in essence the Spanish version of fried chicken, with béchamel sauce. A tad dry, but still very good. My husband’s paella was excellent, with plenty of seafood and other goodies. My daughter’s boyfriend ordered veal. She thought it tough, he said it was great. Entrees come with salads and are plated with rice. Had a nice large pitcher of sangria, which was excellent. «Not too much ice,» I said, and the bartender complied. Going old school Spanish we got guava shells with cream cheese for dessert — plenty for everyone to taste. Though the restaurant was packed Saturday night — and boy, do they cram people in – our service was excellent. Never wanted for a thing. And an fyi: you can make a reservation. But I don’t think the maître d checks; it appeared first come, first served.

Quirky old time New York restaurant. Very decent, if unimaginative type food. From the looks of it the menu hasn’t changed in 30 years. Nor has the décor. When we were there the restaurant was filled with old regulars. Waiters are old school in burgundy tuxedo jackets. Everything of this place smells of old school. I think the overall experience is 3 star, but i’ll give it a 4 since i want more of these places to keep going.

This is an old school Catalonian restaurant in the Village that delights with its traditional fare in large portions(any dish is easily splittable here, and especially the paella). The service was a bit off the mark and not too friendly, but the food more than made up for the lack of warmth. The seafood paella arrived in a very large pot, as did the gambons in garlic sauce. In a city full of tapas restaurants, this is no tapas — it’s a grande platter. I loved both the paella and the shrimp, but I grew a bit tired of so much of one dish. I suggest that two people order very different items and share here. We also enjoyed a nice Spanish red wine to accompany our dinner. Perhaps not the best Spanish cuisine outside of Spain, but it certainly hits the mark.

Some may say this place is dated but I say it is as relevant today as it was when it opened 40 years ago. I’m willing to bet some of the staff that served us last night were there on opening day. The food is traditional Catalonian fare. Paella, meats is salsa verde, tapas. Come hungry because the portions are huge. Two can share one paella dish. Atmosphere is lively and noisy but not so loud to be annoying.

Sevilla is a classic 1980’s NYC restaurant. The paella portions are not as large as they used to be, but the quality is first rate. Sangria, and paella marinara with lobster is one of my all-time favorite dishes. The restaurant is very small, and tight. It is great for medium sized groups or a romantic evening. Spanish food is perhaps the most innovative cuisine of the current time, and a nostalgic trip to Sevilla will certainly please most foodies. Is it my favorite place for paella? Certainly not, but it certainly a very memorable restaurant. The experience at Sevilla is always worth the trip down West 4th Street!

I came to Sevilla with a couple that has been dining here for 46 years. They regaled me with tales of smoking pot in the car on the way there and then drinking so much sangria they had to drive home with one eye closed to thwart double vision. The dark wood décor with portraits of Spanish royalty was charmingly aged rather than dated. The staff was dressed in a uniform of red jackets and bow ties that reminded me of the shining. I was enchanted. The food, while plentiful, inexpensive, and perfectly acceptable, did not merit 46 years of loyal patronage. The seafood in the paella was overcooked and the rice lacked depth of flavor. The almond sauce for the almond chicken was excessively sweet. The chicken extremena, chicken with peppers, onions, and chorizo was swimming in a brown flavorless cornstarchy goo. The shrimp in green sauce lacked seasoning. The soups, caldo gallego and black bean, were the flavorful highlights of the meal. My generous hosts agreed that the food was not as delicious as they remembered. Off night? Perhaps. As they don’t accept reservations, getting in on a weekend or with a larger group can be a challenge. If you’re in the neighborhood and there isn’t a wait, it might be worth a try. Otherwise, skip it.

My friend and I were in the area and saw this restaurant on the corner and decided to stop in for a meal. Upon arriving, we waited for about 5 minutes before we were seated. The waiter tried to seat us further to the back of the restaurant, but I requested that we sit by the window in the front. I didn’t really understand why he would try to put us in the back when there were two open table right there in front of us, but okay. The décor is very old-timerish. It was very warm and homey. It was dimly lit, but thats okay because the windows brought in all the light. A waiter poured our water and we waited… We waited for about 15 minutes for someone to come and take our order. We ordered a pitcher of Red Sangria which was tasty. The waiter came back with our food promptly. He served our rice on our plates for us. Very nice presentation. I had the shrimp and rice. The food was amazing. I can’t complain about it. The reason why this restaurant gets 2 stars is because the Head Waiter, an elderly man with a mean mug, rushed us to eat our meal because the place started getting crowded. Everyone was coming in for dinner. He passed our table multiple times and asked if we were ready. We were still eating and chatting! I was appalled. What made it even worse was when we were finished, we asked for the check. He gave it us. My friend put his money in it, the old head waiter passed by our table and SNATCHED the book from the table without our permission, with an attitude. I was in shock. I will never return to this place just because of the way I was treated.
