That Tertulia only has 3.5 stars is a testament to Unilocal’s unreliability. If I could give Tertulia ten starts to bring its rating up, I would. Alas, I can’t. I have now eaten at Tertulia three times and found it delicious on every occasion. The ambience is charming, the food carefully prepared and far above your average tapas joint. Last night, I ordered the chuleta. It will go down as the best pork chop I’ve ever eaten. Shishito fire roasted peppers were delectable. My wife loved her octopus. Tertulia is not cheap. But what you get is a memorable eating experience. That’s worth the price.

Got food poisoning from(I think) the lamb meatballs– they tasted rubbery and had a weird aftertaste. Everything was great Otherwise… Until we woke up the next day. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t anywhere else we ate bc our friends(whom we ate with earlier) are fine. Really nice atmosphere. Just maybe watch out for the lamb. Pan de tomate is solid as well as charcuterie. Too bad really.

I love Tertulia and all of the employees. Chef Neil puts an incredible focus on «make it nice» and stays true to that with every dish he creates. A truly inspirational chef. Tertulia is a perfect example of a traditional Spanish tapas spot and a creative ever evolving kitchen. I am biased having worked here in the kitchen but I have since left and still return here to eat. Cheers to those guys for holding it down.

Came here for a birthday dinner and was underwhelmed from the start. Service was sloppy and slow with our table constantly searching for the waiter to place orders and then looking for bussers to clear empty dishes and glasses. The food, alas, didn’t offer any improvement. If it wasn’t flavorless, it was oversalted and sparse. I’m by no means a big eater but I was still hungry after the main course. I guess it didn’t help that our paella for five people was only one grain of rice thick and appeared to have less than one full breast of chicken. A complaint to the manager resulted in a kindly offer to provide another breast of chicken, but despite his assurances for quick service, it took very long. Go figure. Indeed, I’m only giving this two stars instead of one because the bottle of wine we selected was excellent… so kudos to their wine distributor.

Best Prime Rib I ever had in NYC, if your looking to treat yourself order the Chuletón De Buey a La Brasa. It was perfection. It does take a while to be ready but worth the wait.

Stopped by for dinner before watching a show at the comedy cellar. As our group walked in Terulia, a dry-cured ham was being carved up on one of the back tables. Because this was a company event we were able to sample a bunch of offerings. Needless to say it was a feast and one of the best meals I had on my last trip to nyc. Oysters — At a buck a pop we ordered a tray of them. They were a little on the small size but be sure to ask for their special hot sauce on the side. That was great. Nuestras Patatas — crispy seasoned potatoes with a cream sauce on top. While not as good as Rally’s(or checkers) season fires, they were addictive. Cojonudo Revisited — smoked pig cheek, quail egg. This was interesting but I’d probably pass on it. Tosta Matrimonio — black and white anchovies. I love these. The sweetness cut though most of the saltiness. I’d order this again for sure. Pulpo a La Brasa — grilled spanish octopus — Looked cool, tasted okay. Arroz Negro — squid ink — By far this was my favorite of all the Tapas. Embutidos — 3 cured meats — Pretty good charcuterie board Quesos Artesanales — cheese — Good selection

My cousin invited me and my family to join his, to celebrate their son’s Confirmation at Tertulia. The dining experience was so good that I was compelled to write a review– I do one every couple of years. We had one of the all inclusive options plans and each course was better than the last. Amongst us, we had people that were gluten-free, vegans, vegetarians and nut-allergies. The staff easily accommodated by putting items on the side or altering dishes, but it was a «food orgy» as my other cousin, a physician visiting from the Dominican Republic said. Each course was fully described as it was served and the the diet restriction addressed. It was a little cramped, but hey, it was cozy and it is the Village after all! Kudos to the entire staff, from those who greeted us at the door to the chef and proprietor. Can’t wait to get back(after some X-tra diet/excercise)

came here for dinner on a Sunday night and was skeptical after seeing all the mixed Unilocal reviews but I thought it was a good dinner! we made a reservation and were seated in the back at the high tables — not very comfortable but all the booths were taken. my friend started with a cocktail — they have a very interesting/unique collection of concoctions, worth a try we got the Brussels sprouts — very good, a bit heavy on the balsamic vinaigrette but the porchetta was perfect — one caveat, the dish was very poorly plated… if plated at all… it would’ve been nice if it looked like they had tried to make it presentable rather than having the sprouts haphazardly thrown onto the plate, but nonetheless solid dish! if you come, get it got the pig cheeks with egg — very good, loved every bite! very tender pig cheeks mmm got the octopus with cauliflower and potatoes — liked it a lot too. nothing especially amazing, but well made and had a complimenting sauce. got the chicken paella — very big! great for sharing. the chicken was so tender and juicy, loved it, and the paella was mixed with a variety of yummy veggies. finished off with the meatballs — nothing special. great for a group dinner, they have lots of seating. casual ambiance and attentive service.

Met up with friends over a sample of tapas and the chefs selection wasn’t too bad. They sent out around 9 tapas, a pitcher of red sangria(on the tart side) &2 desserts. Not bad for $ 165 .that was because my friend had the Gilt coupon. I’m sure it’s well over $ 250 which is still good for 4 people… we were stuffed! I’d go back to try their main dishes next time.

Simply put, this place was a disappointment! Came for restaurant week, ordered from the prefixed menu and their normal menu and everything was just mediocre at best… Everything but the carrot cake! Read reviews and there were so many positive reviews, I was expecting sooo much more, only to leave disappointed. A lot of the dishes tasted as if you could prepare them yourself at home, so to pay that much for meh tapas dishes, just felt like a waste! The only saving grace of this place is the cure rustic ambiance and the delicious crack tasting walnut carrot cake, that was amazing! Most likely would never go back unless it was only for the carrot cake and nothing else!

Arrived early(4:30pm) so I had to sit at the Bar. Ordered full bottle of a Rose Cava which was delicious. Since dinner does not start until 5:30, decided to order some tapas(small plates) at the Bar. Started with Patatas Bravas and the croquetas. — both delicious. I followed these with Pan de Tomate and the Jamon Iberico. The Jamon was exceptional — I’ve had Pan de Tomate in Barcelona, Madrid, San Sebastián and Bilbao among other places in Spain — so you can imagine that I know about Pan de Tomate. I’ve read some of the mixed reviews from previous diners at Tertulia and some say it needs more salt, while others say it’s soggy. Mine was fine, the only complaint that I have is the quality of the tomato. In Spain they tend to use a sweeter tomato which makes for a more flavorful experience — otherwise this restaurant is a wonderful find. Salud !!! Alberto T.

I had the best time when I took my aunt and uncle here on their visit to New York. We came for a late lunch at 3 or 4pm so they were pretty empty. And their brunch menu had just finished but the owner or waiter made a suggestion to try the classic tortilla — eggs, potato, onions, and olive oil. Best damn decision of my life. My uncle Ron being my uncle Ron ordered a burger in a Spanish restaurant in NYCLOL anyway, the rest of us odered much more interesting and once in a lifetime meals I would come again if out of towners come to visit. Or if I had a job lol but it’s pricey!

I really enjoy El Colmado in Gotham West Market, so I was long overdue to check out Chef Mullen’s Tertulia. The various small plates we ordered were incredibly tasty — the squid ink rice and grilled octopus were standouts. But while the food was really good, I didn’t dig that my first glass of wine for the night — a rose — was quite warm and my second glass — a medium bodied red — was served quite chilled. Of course that didn’t stop me from finishing either glass, but a resto like this should know how to store their wines properly. Service was a bit slow. I’ll stick w/El Colmado in GWM for my tapas fix.

I will never stop loving tapas. They are amazing for so many reasons. The main two being that 1) Spanish food is all kinds of YUM and 2) Sharing = trying many more things. What could be better? Came here on a Friday night at 8:45 and the place was packed. Thankfully we had a reservation, so we had our table all ready for us when we got there. First things first: the service. A+++. Our waiter was awesome. Enthusiastic, funny, helpful, all of that good stuff. Before I move onto the main event, just a comment on the general environment here. It’s quite pleasant. Somehow it pulls off a slight intimate vibe despite being light and cheery. It’s a lot of wood and exposed brick, which make it both fancy and homey. Really just exudes warm and friendly. Now, the food. We were set on ordering something — anything really — with Iberico ham, so we started off with the Iberico ham platter, which was served with some crostini-esque bread. Absolutely delicious. I don’t eat read meat too much, both for health reasons and because I don’t particularly like the taste, but this stuff was packed with flavor — flavor that I liked very very much. The saltiness wasn’t overpowering, and it was incredibly rich. We probably could’ve eaten that all night and left content. When I order tapas, I typically like to order a mix of vegetables and meats/poultry/seafood. So next, we ordered the snap peas and the broccoli salad. They weren’t out of this world great, but still very good. The snap peas were pretty heavily dressed, so any sort of potential for healthiness there was squandered. Not necessarily a bad thing, just the reality of the dish. And the broccoli was served with — if I’m not mistaken — lamb bacon, which packed almost as much of a punch as the Iberico ham(though comparing the two would be silly — the ham is the star of the show and that bacon could only stand as a supporting character). Now for my personal favorite of the night — the smoked pig cheek with fried quail egg. GETTHIS. DONOTBEDETERRED/AFRAID OFBIGCHEEKITISSOWORTHIT. The only negative thing about this dish is that I only got one bite. Well, technically two, but that’s only because I tried to savor something that is really meant to be enjoyed all at once. A tip for trying to savor this: don’t break the yolk on the first bite. Otherwise you will be needing to ask for a stack of napkins. Take it from a very messy eater — I had to be careful with this. If you’re not a weirdo who likes to make your food last an egregiously long time, just ignore that tip. Now comes that sad part of the night. We were still waiting on the octopus and duck dishes, but much to our chagrin, we had both reached food baby status. So, with a look of defeat in our eyes, we cancelled the octopus because the duck had caught both of our eyes initially. The website menu isn’t updated, otherwise I’d tell you exactly what was in it. The only thing I remember is that it was dry roasted or dry rubbed… something like that. I’m only proficient in chef-speak — some things are beyond me. Anyway, the duck was fantastic, and I managed to eat a whole bite-sized piece. I should get a medal. A note on drinks — the gin and rye cocktails are both decent, but nothing special. They are both pretty unique though, which was a nice surprise at a tapas bar. A lot of the tapas bars I’ve been to just serve wine/beer/sangria, so the cocktail option was much appreciated. Too much wine makes me fall asleep, which is not exactly conducive to eating.

Really great dining experience. Good and attentive service. Attractive laid back dining room, loved the intimate booths. We tried various tapas, really liked the jamon crockets, the octopus with quinoa, calamari with rice, and the papas bravas. All dishes were excellent except for the sausage with rice, found this dish to be mealy. Desserts were good, really enjoyed the churros dipped in chocolate.

Tasty Spanish tapas in an intimate, warm setting. #nyc #restaurantreview #westvillage We loved the grilled octopus, which was tender and not overwhelming. The lamb meatballs were delicious, especially with the garbanzo beans underneath. We also enjoyed the grilled broccoli. Share 3 – 4 dishes for two people. Dessert is worth having and of course a bottle of Spanish red wine. Wait staff is hipster cool. Our waiter was honest about what to try and what to leave. Took us back to our time in Spain!

Tertulia?!? What the heck does that mean? Well this Spanish word means ‘a gathering of friends marked by great conversation, food and drink.‘ According to the restaurant, this was also a name of a popular Spanish type of salon in the 17th Century. While in New York, I had a chance to dine here with friends… we found out later that this restaurant was a finalist for the James Beard best new restaurant in 2012. We attended the restaurant for dinner, and when we arrived it had a nice buzz going on. There were people dining outside and as we entered the buzz was definitely louder. It does have a hip, fun environment inside, and it was full of people. There is not a lot of room inside, but it does give the restaurant a cozy feel. The kitchen is towards the back of the restaurant, of which we didn’t have a good view(bummer!) and the bar is towards the front. And when I say towards the front, I mean literally in front of you when you walk in! We were happy with our large booth, as there were 5 of us, and started to look at the menu. We started with Spanish cider and Sangria, which we enjoyed. For food, we had… Baby squid special Delicious and slightly chewy. Not a large portion, but very tasty. Heirloom tomato and cucumber salad special Really great salad, fresh and vibrant flavors of summer. Pan con tomate Toasty, tomato-ey goodness… great flavor… and got my palette working. Tosta huevo roto y jamon iberico This was a combination of egg, potato, and aged jamon iberico. This was scarfed down so fast… everyone couldn’t get enough. When you stepped back and thought about it, it was almost breakfast. But eating it, it was so much more. Choclo Probably my favorite savory dish, this was a mix of fried crisp hominy, pork belly, lime dressing, and cilantro. It was an unbelievable contrast of texture and taste. Every bite was crispy, chewy, soft, and aromatic. Paella del huerto The paella came out and it was a very large platter. At first I was worried we wouldn’t be able to finish it all, but with further inspection, I noticed the cooked paella was actually a very, very thin layer. If you know anything about cooking times for paella, you know this makes sense in order to make the food in time for the customer, but I would have liked a little more. The other interesting part was this was our least favorite dish… Moving on to dessert… Blackberry port sorbet This had a nice blackberry flavor with an medium aftertaste of the port. I liked it very much, my wife not so much… this sorbet is not recommended for non drinkers. Olive oil ice cream Tasted like your typical olive oil ice cream… nothing special Churros y chocolate My favorite dessert… short sugared churros sticking out of a drinking glass that is half full of melted dark chocolate… SOMONEY!!! Rich, decadent, yet very simple. It was hard to share… always the sign of a great dessert! Drunken bread pudding with walnut ice cream This was the rest of the table’s favorite dessert. I believe it was served slightly warm and went well with the walnut ice cream. I barely got a bite before it was gone. All in all, a good experience. I would go back if I was in there area, if for nothing else but to pop in for some quick tapas. The waiter we had was attentive enough, and the food came out in a semi timely matter, especially because it was packed. In short, the restaurant embodied the definition of it’s name…

I loved the crushed egg and the Cordero the most though — I can definitely just have limitless servings for myself. The smoked pig cheek was just as phenomenal. I enjoyed the textures and the sweet/savory combo that Tertulia seems to be the master of. As for desserts we had: TORRIJACARAMELIZADA7 Caramelized«Spanish toast,» hazelnut ice cream PERASENJARABE7 Glazed pears, lemon, ginger, pear sorbet TARTADECHOCOLATE7 Dark chocolate and coffee ganache, almond crust, sea salt Once again the texture of the Spanish toast was — for lack of better word — epic. Everything else is was subpar in my book after trying the toast and hazelnut ice cream. It was rich but didn’t make me feel like I was having my arteries clogged. Would definitely be back for the experience ;)

We ordered: Jamón Ibérico de Bollota Tosta Matrimonio Tosta Seta Pimientos de Padrón Croquetas de Jamón Almejas al la Brasa Pez Espada a la Brasa The hams were tasty, although a small selection of each one which was disappointing for the $ 15 price. The surprising dish were the pimientos: non-battered peppers deep fried and doused with sea salt. Simple but oh-so-tasty. It was fun playing the Russian Roulette since one in 10 are spicy. The Croquetas were a bit of a disappointment. Too soft and mushy on the inside and very little flavor. I won’t be ordering them again. The Almejas came out awhile later and seemed to be a little cold for al la brasa, while the pez espada(which I normally don’t care for) was flavorful and sizable compared to the other tapas dishes. The favorites were the two Tosta dishes. If you’re a fan of anchovies, definitely get the tosta matrimonio. My dining mate preferred the earthiness of the tosta seta. The service was great. The staff was cheerful, knowledgeable about the different meats, cheeses and wines and helped us along in making out final tapas decisions. I’m giving this three stars because I know this is a new place and there were still the little kinks in some of the dishes that I believe will be improved on in time. I’ll try it out again in another 4 – 6 months to see what the place has evolved into.
