Came here randomly after a brunch booze cruise, conveniently located in south street seaport. Yes, more booze after a booze cruise please. Ok so the bar and food is pretty standard, but the bartender was awesome! Maybe because it was dead and there was a bunch of us that kind of took over? Idk, but he was so super friendly and we all had great conversation. Gave the entire bar free shots and then some. Whaat, that’s always a plus. Anddd the bill was cheap cheap. Plus they have an awesome happy hour from noon-8 which even includes shots, beers, well drinks and even frozen drinks — a lil somethin somethin for all.

Again, like here I am a chick-magnet. Now if only this chick wasn’t some 50-sum year old bent over holding her skirt up shaking her ass like a pitbull in heat. She smacked my ass(unexpectedly!?!) and it stung for 12 minutes! Spent the rest of the night zigzagging in opposite directions of her. Um, ow?

$ 5 happy hours frozen margaritas happy hour 12−8pm, you get your money worth for the pour. The only pitfall is you can’t get outdoor sitting if you only get drinks. A good low-key hangout with fidi crowd. The south seaport view is quite amazing and if you come around/after dawn, you can sneak your cup out to enjoy it on the upper level of the elevated park by the water. Just saying, no encouraging.

Don’t have to try the food or have a custom made drink to appreciate the value here. Located at the end of the normally packed, touristy South Street seaport, late afternoon or early evening will find this place virtual empty, spotless, and offering frozen margaritas, pina coladas, or strawberry daquiris — or any mixture of the three — for $ 5 each from noon to 8 pm. Perhaps the lack of business during these hours is because of slower flow in the area in general because of the closure of the previously extensive and much frequented three stories of decks right up against and over the water. Looked like there had been a fire, or that the place was undergoing renovation, or both. Either way, the upshot seems to be fewer crowds. After lunch in the FiDi, a friend and I sought out the waterfront, realized the deck was gone, then sat on a concrete block by the harbor right outside Sequoia until it occurred to us to find a way to enjoy the nicely set outside seating offered by the establishment. I walked up to the bar, announced my order, and was slightly chagrined when the bartender turned around, juiced two of the three rotating, 7 – 11 slurpee style machines with my desired combo, and set a flimsy plastic 8 oz. cup in front of me. ‘Oh well, it’s New York,’ I thought, taking a seat outside. But something happened as I continued to sip. Turns out, the drink was not only passable, but strong as shit — and it was a nice kind of tropical strong, too, very refreshing and innocuous and sneaky, resulting in a mellow, I’m-on-vacation buzz. I had another, and felt the same, but even better. I will be back. Possibly frequently, just so I can get something so very simple(a frozen margarita) without judgment or unecessary expense. For anyone who works in the area, this is a no brainer for a happy hour if you want to actually hear what your conversation partner has to say, have access to a clean and empty bathroom at the top of a clean mahogany staircase, and get a rare view of the seaport through your own — not tourists’ — eyes.

All you get is a view and from most tables, not a very good one. Pier level and upstairs seating with views of Brooklyn, Governors Isl, tall boats and even The Statue of Liberty from the upper deck. Loud with party and your boats in and out. Good choice of fish, sandwiches, salads a wrap and burgers but too bad what we tried was on par for what I expected from a water front, tourist trap. Julie H went with the Crab Cake sandwich $ 15.95. The cake was the small. About the size of the tomato slice and piled with tarter sauce. Past the goo, it was a bland and slightly warm puck-o-crab. Survey says? Anggggggggggggg Fish & Chips for me @ $ 18.95 with 4 planks of battered, soggy and luke warm cod. The fries had potential as I love dirty brown fries with sea salt but these too were room temperate and soggy. No thank you. What you get is bad food and a nice view of Governors Isl.

Million dollar views-$ 10. Martinis and Friday night appears to be a not-to-be-missed happy hour for the 40ish urban set. The music indoors was impossibly loud, but the crowd was jovial and mature enough to be congenial. The real value here is the terraces with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge. The seafood is ok, crab cakes, tilapia and linguini & clams in white clam sauce — all very adequate, if not memorable.

A bit too touristy for my liking but let’s get down to business and talk about the food: Calamari — just like any calamari everywhere else aka boring Crab Cake — comes in just one cake, on top of a bed of corn; tasted alright, better than some places. Skirt Steak — juicy and tender, actually cooked the way my friend requested Seafood mix — whatever they caught they dumped in this plate; waitress had no idea what she was talking about when I asked her what fish is in for the day, basically repeated the same thing in hopes I’d wave her off in which I did and she was relieved I didn’t have to ask any more questions she had no answers to Drinks — meh, watered down booze Giving this place 2 stars because the view is good and the food was passable but that’s it. Servers should know how to answer their customers if they asked what special fish/dishes of the day were.

I’m guessing that they rely mainly on the tourist trade, because I can’t imagine being a local and going back here. We both ordered fish and chips, which was one of the cheapest items on the menu. But this fish and chips was by far the most expensive fish and chips either of had ever had, and the worst prepared. Soggy and greasy, not overcooked, but over-greased. After a few limp fries I quit. I’m sorry but I must send my regrets: Should have checked Unilocal reviews before going in. Should have brought my TV-B Gone remote so we could mute or Off the TVs in the bar. We should have walked out or sent the food back to the kitchen. By the way, the SERVICE was excellent. They really worked as a team. And the view is great.

I only came by for a drink during happy hour. What I like most about this place is the view. It has an amazing view of the Brooklyn Bridge. The bar was on the second floor. Although, not a sports bar, they had TVs at the bar on the sports channels which was nice. They have a rather interesting list of cocktails. My friends ordered the a honey drink with jack in it and I got the margarita with patron. The bartender made it strong so I APPROVE! We had unexpected entertainment that night. It was 6 pm and these 2 guys across the bar were stupid DRUNK with their dates… at 6 pm. That should probably say a lot about the drink the bartenders make here. Which is AMAZING! We caught 1 guy with his date in the downstairs, «supposedly closed off» part of the restaurant making out. I’d come visit this place again next time I’m in NYC.

I have been to this restaurant at least 4 – 5 times. This is located at the South Seaport, NY which itself is a vibrant market place with lots of entertainments, shops and restaurants. Sequoia Café is located at the end of Peir 17 which allows it to provide a spectacular view of the Brooklyn Bridge and New York harbor. If not for food, one should just go and sit over a drink to relax and enjoy the view, especially at night. The restaurant has a mixed cuisine mainly seafood, continental and american. Must try — Sizzling Mussels and Oven Baked shrimps. The food price is worth for the quality and quantity. The attendants are well aware of the menu and hence capable of guiding their customers. Only thing missing is a live seaside music which would have made this place perfect.

Thank you Todd for your sincere apology and offer to refund me. I do understand that no establishment is perfect. There’ll be off days at even the very best reviewed places and at every price range. It was unfortunate that I caught Sequoia on one of those off days. I am glad to hear you and your team have been working to make improvements. I wish you well.

This place is very strange. We took an out of town guest there for the view. I had low expectations. after all, pier 17 is the times square of downtown. The place is massive. We were there on a weeknight and there was only one table seated inside. Plenty of outside seating with great views of the river, Brooklyn Bridge, etc. Our server had no clue what she was doing. Someone ordered a Stella and they were changing the keg. She suggested Bud Light as a similar alternative. Some people ordered apps, but I did not. My skirt steak entrée came with the apps. Water is served in plastic cups, yet there are cloth napkins. We avoided mixed drinks due to the comments that they are weak. One opted for a martini. You’re not beating the system by doing this as they have very small martini glasses. Despite the weird factor to this place, and my low expectations, I am happy to say they know how to cook a steak. Others in our group felt the food was acceptable, but certainly nothing was out of this world. After declining dessert but ordering coffee, we still had to chase her down for the check. Guess what? Automatic 20% gratuity. We were not a large party, either. Everyone gets an automatic 20% gratuity. We ended up spending $ 50 per person. Overall not a good experience. For $ 50 a person I expect competent servers, glasses, entrees to be served at the same time, and no automatic gratuity.

I visited South Street seaport after a very long time for a Meetup event in the city. While we were waiting for a friend to arrive, we decided to order appetizers at the bar. The place is huge and is more like a sports bar. It gets pretty crowded and was loud. We munched on chicken wings and quesadilla, as we waited for our friend. The food was kinda ok, and a bit expensive for what we ordered. A bit touristy in general.

Decided to give this restaurant another shot. We had a marvelous view this time at a corner table overlooking the Williamsburg Bridge(and Brooklyn Bridge in the distance)…pretty amazing view. Too bad I was there with my sister… It would make for a great romantic location. ;-) Would recommend sitting outside if you choose to come(of course, weather permitting…) This time around, ordered a NY Steak Dinner… well done. It was definitely quite delicious, and I am a sucker for any sort of carbohydrates… so definitely enjoyed the potatoes that came on the side. They were actually quite fabulous. Also ordered a Strawberry Shortcake dessert, and it was definitely yummy as well. Don’t know why I never bothered to try those out the first time I came. Still trying to figure out why the water comes in plastic cups though. New York cares, right? It would be nice to be a little green-friendly, but otherwise, I can vouch that this place is good for the outside view and the NY Steak dinner.

So this review is partially unfair as we came here for NYE, so our experience was not necessarily the usual. A friend’s friend had recommended this after spending last NYE here, and I naively thought if we went as a group, we’d have fun wherever we went… Five of us decided to pay for a table so that we’d be able to sit(having been to other open bar NYE events and being in pain standing all night). One of my friends was very concerned that this party would suck, even prior to leaving for the event, and sadly upon arrival the rest of us agreed. I don’t know if the décor was that much worse than usual, but it resembled a cheap conference hall or airport hotel style… and the tables were in a different room than everything else, so essentially you were stuck there unless you wanted to leave all your belongings alone in a room while you left to explore, dance, whatever. For $ 145 each, I wouldn’t say expectations were especially high, but when receiving a bottle of no name champagne(and i drink the andre from time to time, so not exactly demanding, but we had veuve prior to even heading out), and a bottle of alize with some microwaved apps we were a bit disappointed and headed to the bar to get shots. Sadly they were not willing to give us shots(wtf??). The crowd left much to be desired, as did the entire experience, there was no midnight countdown, no you could not really see fireworks, and the DJ was not memorable. Very jersey, although on NYE I’m not entirely sure that thats completely avoidable, but this spot definitely should have been.

Came here for a little post-World Cup snack and $ 5.00 happy hour. The drinks were fine and you can’t really complain when they are 5 bucks. We had a bunch of overpriced sub par appetizers. But hey– it’s South Seaport so you have to expect it. I was just glad that I didn’t get hit with a metal chair. For serious, did anyone see footage of that chick throwing a chair off the top deck? Why you may ask– because she was mad that Drake didn’t come out to perform on time. Oh I digress. If you want to be near the water with a pretty large happy hour crowd and cheap drinks then go for it but skip along to somewhere else for better food.

I purchased a Groupon for Sequoia and was excited to give it a try. I had to use my Groupon in the winter, but it looked like a fun spot to go sit outside during the summer so we figured if we liked it we could go back. I accidentally let my Groupon expire by a few days and when I called the restaurant to politely ask if we could still use it I was promptly told no because«that’s our policy.» I was sure to let them know that we wanted to try it out so that we could come back and even asked for a manager, but there was no budging. In an economy like this it just rubs me the wrong way then businesses aren’t willing to work with you. How can you afford to be so pretentious?! Plus I’m sure Groupon had already paid them the money I spent, so it couldn’t have been an issue where they couldn’t get their money. Looking at the other reviews it seems as though I didn’t miss out on too much and I will certainly never go there now!

Between 4 people at the table, 1 small salad, 1 soda, and 4 entrees, $ 130(tax + tip) doesn’t sound so bad. But when the food is mediocre, the service subpar, and the atmosphere a bit uncomfortable… Sequoia deserves the 2 star rating. Years before, friends raved about the happy hour and to be honest, my first experience was probably a couple of years back. It wasn’t bad then… which made me not question bringing visiting family there to eat after taking in the site of the Statue of Libery. Sequoia does have one of the better views of the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, Brooklyn, and DUMBO. We got there and stood by the Host table for a while until someone decided to come up and asked if I was waiting to be seated. I mean seriously, I wasn’t standing there for my health. We wanted to sit upstairs so they directed us to whom to talk to… who then directed us to another person to talk to… who then did not answer our question… because the person who was walking by took us to the first available 4 seater table. We sat at a small table supposed to fit 4 and quickly realized this table sucks. We were practically placed in the center of a major walkway which made eating a bit uncomfortable as the waitstaff kept passing by a bit too close to our table for comfort. Funny thing was, despite the closeness of their vicinity, it still took them a while for a water refill. A while meaning… we had to actually ask for it. The table had the following entrees that weren’t great, but weren’t good either. The Spogloretti(shrimp pasta) was decent but a little spicy that wasn’t expected, the Tempura Shrimp wasn’t tempura shrimp but more deep friend jumbo shrimp with really greasy fries, the Crab cake was decent but obviously processed, and my Oven Baked Shrimp was pretty in presentation and the mashed potatoes good, but the shrimp over cooked and had some weird aftertaste. Sigh. I really did want to like this place, but I didn’t. And I now know when it comes to seafood, I’ll have to go someplace better. Right now, better = City Crab.
