Food wasn’t bad and the service was friendly. The only problem I felt was parking. The area by seaport has no parking spaces

Somebody already said it, but I’ll say it again… the chips and salsa were good. Beside the chips and salsa, this place has little to offer. Stay away from the Crawfish enchiladas – a waste of money; overcooked and tasteless. The sauce didn’t save them, either. My table mates tell me that the steak burrito was, «OK.» The chicken enchilada ranchero was also rated as, «OK.» The beers are overpriced for the size, even for a tourist trap in southern Manhattan. If I end up around here again, I’ll try the place over at 146 Beekman.

Outdoor seating is great, a perfect place for Seaport people watching. Food had good presentation, but was sort of bland and a bit disappointing. Decent service for Saturday Brunch.

Location got the 2 stars because its at the Pier. It was a nice day so we could sit outside and watch all of the people pass us by. The food was just ok — I’ve had much better. Service was… wait was there service? We sat forever before we got waited on even for drink orders. We just wanted WATER!!! Once the food came, one was missing something and we had to remind our waitress when she decided to come back and even then, he didn’t get it until we were almost ready to leave.

Very AMERICAN –Mexican food. Food was good, but nothing to rave about, except for the crab stuffed avocados that were AMAZING, these were a special on their menu. Sangria tasted like it came from a pre-packaged mix, and nachos tasted just like the ones I make at home. Not complaining about any of this, but this is a good place to go if your in the mood for Mexican but don’t really care about the authenticity or quality of the food you are eating. Sometimes, that can do the trick and is OK, however, I like to expect more from restaurants especially when I am a pretty decent cook at home and can whip up something better in my kitchen for a much smaller price. I could totally enjoy sitting outside with a plate of nachos and a beer with some friends just watching the people down by the seaport. I would not go here for a great meal.

I went to Red on a Saturday around 4pm. The outside was relatively crowded, but they had ample seating to accommodate. I ended up with a window seat inside at one of the booths. It took awhile for me to be addressed by a hostess and then once I took it upon myself to go inside, the hostess looked at me like, «why haven’t you selected a seat?»…for the record: there were at least 3 signs that read«wait to be seated.» Once I was past that hurdle, the server gave us complimentary chips and salsa. I see the mixed reviews about this, but I enjoyed the salsa. They also gave each person individual salsa containers which was nice —double dip action! The food was standard… nothing fancy. Overall, I liked the general atmosphere and I’ve grown used to the lackluster customer service in NYC. So, not factoring that in it was a good experience and the prices were decent. Less than $ 25(with an alcoholic drink + food)

This place was gross. I’m sorry to say it as I really do try to find the positive in everything but think again. I don’t even know where to start… the décor is quite odd and it looks like very large maggots are rising out of the chandeliers to take over the world… iew. The menu was typical tourist trap all over the place. My friends ordered some very lack luster Mexican food that they didn’t finish and I’ve had better burgers off the street. It’s just a shame that with such prime real estate and what I can imagine is a good flow of customers that better cuisine and service couldn’t be offered. Especially at the price point! Sadly, I see no reason to go or return to Red. Deliciously Living, Michael

Recently came down to the seaport to visit some friends visiting from out of town, and Red was a convenient choice for dinner after a few drinks. About what I expected — decent, slightly overpriced Mexican food in a touristy area, very typical for the seaport. Texas nachos hit the spot, very gooey and greasy. Seafood enchiladas were decent, but for $ 17 definitely not enough seafood. Tuna, red snapper and shrimp were a little sparse. Flavored margaritas on the rocks were pretty standard. Potent for sure. Overall: Just your run of the mill, casual Mexican spot with respectable fare. Nothing wrong with that at all. Location ensures a pretty busy happy hour scene, especially when the weather is good.

Rude, rude, rude! They have an empty patio, and refuse to let a party of 6 sit and order drinks and appetizers, because we «are not committing to entrees.» We haven’t even seen the menu, but they just lost out on hundreds of dollars of business, because of their attitude and rude service. Also, I’m local, I will never recommend this place to friends or colleagues.

If the weather was nicer and we got to sit outside, maybe you’d get 3 stars. But nope, didn’t happen. You get your standard -$ 1 on drinks at happy hour, nothing special here. I didn’t have any of the food here(a bit pricey for food that was nothing out of the ordinary), but the server was on top of taking orders from my table for the most part; I’ll even give her credit for handling our group well, considering how large my party was. Definitely not my first choice for happy hour, but if my friends drag me here, then fine. The lesson is this: do NOT let your friends drag you here.

Very nice location where you can sit outside on a beautiful day. There may be a wait if you prefer to sit outside though. We chose to sit inside so we could take advantage of the AC. The service was absolutely horrible. There was maybe 5 tables and our waitress came by ONCE to introduce herself. After at least 15 minutes of looking around for our waitress, the manager had to finally came to take our order. We didn’t have any interaction with our waitress until we got the check. The food itself wasn’t anything to rave about. There was practically no flavor at all, not even salty… plus it was not cheap. There are so many other choices around south seaport so don’t be fooled by the crowds of people eating here and eat somewhere else!

Not the best, not the worst. I guess it is a last resort type of place, as it was for me. All I know is that I wouldn’t go back.

This place was OK… I recently ran in the 2012NYC Half Marathon with Team Housing Works(WOOP!!) and we had our post-race brunch here. Red offers your typical Mexican cuisine selections at VERY reasonable prices but in a very touristy atmosphere(but when you’re at the South Street Seaport, you have to accept the reality). Nice brunch selection(I had the and views of the bustling Fulton St. mall. If you’re already in the area and want to grab something quick, def. stop by but not a destination per say.

My boyfriend and I came here for our first time today for dinner. The outdoor seatings are now available! It was a great experience. He got an atlantic salmon with market salad and I got a whole roasted chicken. They were both delicious. I was going to eat there quesadilla or burrito but until next time :)

I was in NYC last weekend and my friends and I went down to the South Street Seaport TKTS location to get tickets to a musical for that evening. After waiting in line for that we were pretty hungry. Red was just down the street from the TKTS location so we didn’t have to go very far to curb our hunger. I’m not a huge Mexican food fan, as I hate beans, too much cheese, sour cream, tomatoes, and most combinations of ingredients. I always end up getting quesadillas or taquitos. At Red, I got the chicken quesadilla and it was really quite delicious(see picture). My friends’ meals all came out nicely plated as well. One note, though: The black bean soup comes garnished with sour cream, so if you are allergic to it, mention it to them. We had that happen but the restaurant was more than accommodating and brought out a new, clean soup very quickly.(I know it’s just soup and probably in a big pot waiting to be served, but I’ll still give them credit.) Our waters were filled quickly and that was greatly appreciated. We had experiences at other restaurants where we were left parched. Also, when they brought out the chips and salsa when we sat down, we each got our own individual salsa — yay for being able to double dip. Everyone was nice, service was quick, and it was relatively busy for a Saturday afternoon. All 4 of us left happy and satiated! I’d definitely go back next time in the city if I’m down that way. Wouldn’t make a special trip for it though.

Im am reviewing my experience solely on the bar. I did not eat the food… unless you count chips and salsa(they were warm and delicous). I came to Red on a sunny afternoon with a co-worker after work. Red’s provides a great«people watching» spot. My friend and I saw one of our fellow co-workers having an affair… good stuff! Sure its touristy, but its a relaxed place especially if you beat the rush. The frozen margarittas were perfect. They also had lots of different flavors. There were some flavors of margarittas that I didn’t know existed. The bartender was fun to chat with and was very attentive. We enjoyed ourselves so much we stayed much longer than we had planned… the bar just sucks you in. Basically, a good time, amazing bartender, and solid margs.

Why oh why do these touristy places have to be so darn loud? I mean really? Friend’s birthday meeting place, so you must do your duty. At times we go to places that aren’t our favorites. Yes it’s true. Hostess was very friendly at the front door, sent me right to the right location. Waiter was reasonably attentive. Margarita did the trick for a warmup. Wasn’t worth $ 10 but hey, consider where you are. The nachos were horrible, bad chips smothered in cheddar, boiled carrots and some pico de gallo garnish. At that point though I was desperate. But my takeaway from the whole things was just the volume. Was it people talking loudly or yelling? Was it the loudspeaker music blaring? Or was it both? I don’t even recall. Please don’t make me go back here!

Lackluster, overvalued food. Guess a business can get away with that in this neighborhood? Food quality was suspect: On the menu, Red’s Partida tequila salad(with tuna, it’s $ 15.95) sounded somewhat healthy — and quite appetizing — but the reality was far from it, leafy greens soaked in dressing, tough tuna, unsatisfying as a whole. At least their chili nachos($ 8.95) were decent. Service was okay, though I had to ask three different servers for one glass of water. Aside from an atrocious bill — it’s South Street Seaport — the décor was actually pleasant, as were our shots of Patron.

I was dragged here by some friends who were hungry and wanted something to eat. My first time coming here was 10 yrs ago so I don’t remember my experience. They had lots of things on the menu including burgers… I ordered a burrito. When my food came, there was guacamole and sour cream on top and the burrito was sitting in sauce. It also came with the side of rice and re-fried beans. I’m not a burrito expert but I thought the stuff is supposed to be inside.?? I ended up eating the thing with a fork. I ate whatever was inside the burrito, I couldn’t eat the tortilla because it ended up being really soggy from soaking up all the sauce. If I want a burrito, I am better off going to Chipotle… My burrito was $ 15 bucks.
