Salon V

I tried to go to this place today to stock up on my Kevin Murphy product — but they were closed during open hours. Poor form. I get that it might be slow on a winter Sunday — but people come for things other than a haircut and color. I’ve recently moved to NYC and need a place where I can buy all my KM product at about $ 100 a month. This business will be going elsewhere.

I’ve been going to Salon V since I moved to New York 8 years ago, they were the ones who made me platinum blonde and it’s still healthy and long even after all these years! Service is great and the space is beautiful, never have been disappointed!

I went to Salon V for the first time last month. Had a wonderful experience. Ellen cut my hair. I love the cut! I’ve gotten so many compliments on my hair since then. She was great, so friendly and easy to talk to. The vibe is great. Beautiful space and also relaxing and open. This is my new hair place!

Great Salon! Got my haircut by Younghawk. He is amazing. I highly recommend. I have a lot of hair and long and curly and he managed to give me the best haircut I’ve ever had.

Joseph is the best! I won’t let anyone else touch my hair ever again. He’s such an artist and just completely understands doing hair. (Take it from the pickiest girl in NYC!) I 100% recommend Joseph for cut and color.

I signed up for Unilocal just to put in a testimonial for my stylist Ellen. Ellen has had sole control over my hair for ten years (I, and the rest of her devotees, followed her to Salon V from her previous salon). The secret about Ellen is that she does such meticulous, thoughtful work that your haircut lasts for several months. She is so precise, so obsessed with what every hair on your head is doing, and how the overall look turns out — an Ellen treatment is not the same as another stylist’s. As another reviewer already observed, Ellen also has an incredibly winning, warm, funny and restorative personality — you look forward to your appointments! But the reason to see her is simply her work, especially if you have difficult-​to-​manage or particular hair issues that other stylists can’t seem to figure out or remember. Ellen is incredibly attentive to what your hair is like (texture, tendencies), as well as what you want it to look like. What else is there to say except she is a master at her craft!

Two years ago I moved to Manhattan from Long Island where I used the same hairstylist for 27 years. Since moving to the city I have been to numerous salons, some did an ok job, others were terrible. And then, I came across Joseph at Salon V and my prayers were answered! He is super talented, listens to my requests and then discusses with me what he thinks will work best. If you want amazing precision haircuts and the perfect hair color, you must see Joseph!

I have been seeing Lucio for highlights for years. He’s the absolute best. I adore him, and my color is always amazing. I also got a really great haircut from Joseph, who is new, last week. I looked up the salon’s number on Unilocal before my last visit and was able to get a $ 150 voucher for $ 100, so I saved $ 50 as well. Love this place – everyone is SO nice!

Writing my first Unilocal review because I am SO happy to have come to Salon V and to have met Ellen to cut my hair who is amazing! I’ve been jumping salons for 3 years trying to find a great fit and am thrilled to say I finally have a go-​to salon and go-​to girl.
Ellen is the best– nice and patient, communicates well what she sees with your current hair situation, listens to your grievances, and gives thoughtful suggestions to help tailor the cut you want to suit you and your hair type/​growth pattern. She even took time throughout the cut to explain what she was doing before she did it, and gave helpful suggestions on how to mix up the style within my air drying régime.
The space is great– super pretty with big bright windows and a tranquil feel, tucked off a quiet portion of 8^th street. And yes champagne is offered when you check in which is always always nice.
My first visit was about a month ago, and I’ve since gotten so many compliments on the cut and am loving the current do. Will be back on the reg to see Ellen again :)

SO happy with my experience at Salon V.
Found the salon through Gilt City and bought the voucher — can always be a little nerve wracking. But, I was so pleasantly surprised. First of all, the salon is gorgeous and in a great location.
I saw Meg and she totally got what I wanted in a haircut. She gave me the perfect cut and definitely knew how to work with my hair — can sometimes be a little tough since I have super thick hair that’s wavy in the back, straight in the front.
I will definitely be coming back and urge others to check out Salon V!

I love love love this salon. I have been every color: dark red, strawberry blonde, every brown and now platinum. This is the only salon (truly) I trust with my hair. I have been going to either Meg or Vernelle for years. I have never left this salon disappointed with my hair color as I have with other salons (you know when you go and bring a picture of what you want, and it backfires!). I have over the years referred many of my girlfriends who also are regulars here.
Last thing I will say: if you tell them you want something that they think isn’t ideal for your face shape or complexion… They will tell you. And I really appreciate that candor. Let’s be real– not everything in real life looks how it does on a model!

Great addition to the downtown salon scene. Beautiful room with a calm, relaxed feel. Staff is very friendly. Lucio does my color and he is fantastic. Very talented (he went to art school and has an excellent sense of color and tone) and will be honest about what will work well (or not) for you. Highly recommend.

After years of disappointment, finding Vernelle changed my life. Her entire staff is talented and friendly. Salon V gives me a an exclusive experience, without the typical pretension. I would not trust my hair to anybody else in this world. Salon V is the only salon I recommend. Do your life a favor. Book an appointment.

I have been coming to Vernelle since she was at Soon Beauty Lab. I followed her when she first opened Salon V on East 7^th Street and had to leave for awhile as I was living on the UWS and the East Village was no longer convenient. Well, my sabbatical was short-​lived as no one can take the place of Vernelle or Salon V. Back to East 7^th I quickly went and now I am a regular at the new location on East 8^th Street. The new salon is absolutely beautiful — bright, airy, classy and comfortable. Vernelle is the same as she was from day 1 — attentive, talented, and welcoming to all. The Salon V staff are all amazing from her front desk, to the assistants and on and on down the line. They cater to you and even serve wine/​beer/​infused water — whatever you like. Salon V’s website is no joke when they say they have no attitude. After going to Frederick Fekkai for years, Salon V is the most refreshing change! If you are looking for a great cut and color at the best salon in NYC, Salon V is your place! PS — This message is NOT endorsed nor did anyone ask me to write it!

Salon V is amazing! I have been having Yuri do my cuts and color for years and she is fantastic! In that time I have moved making it not so easy to get to her but I still make the trip. She is worth it! She is super sweet and has NEVER let me down. She takes her time and makes sure she really understand what I want before starting. I never feel rushed and always leave happy and with gorgeous hair!
The new salon is beautiful and everyone there is always so nice and accommodating. The beer/​wine is always nice too ;).
Trust me girls…(and guys) I know how hard it is to trust someone new with your hair, but I can assure you that you can’t go wrong with Yuri!

I’ve gotten my hair cut by Candice (unfortunately no longer at the salon) and Vernelle (owner). They are THE BEST!!! They both did an excellent job of giving me a haircut that is low maintenance and natural looking, but glamorous at the same time. I always get complements for months after I go to Salon V.
Vernelle is committed to providing excellent service. She mentioned how she fixed a client’s hair after the business hours because she wanted the customer to walk away feeling satisfied.
I highly recommend this place! Sip on champagne or wine while you get pampered :)
