Mediocre Asian fusion, but the location is great and they do a good job catering to groups. I came here with a big group for a dinner that I didn’t pay for, so it’s hard to be too down on the place, but it just didn’t stand out anywhere. I had crispy salmon, some chicken curry thing, rice pudding with mango, and mochi. It was all only OK except for the rice pudding which was really pretty good and the mochi which was already melted on the inside and I might not eat next time.

Okay, I’m gonna give it to you straight. In Times Square around Broadway/Theatre district, there is nothing of note worth eating at. However, at Ruby Foo’s, you’ll get a quality meal for a little bit of a hefty price and small portions. If price is no matter, I think you’ll enjoy yourself. The menu has a little bit of everything: Sushi/Japanese, Chinese, and Thai. Authentic? No. Worthy? Yes. The décor is quite beautiful. Dark, and once inside, a little getaway from the big lights and noise. Despite the niceness, it’s plenty kid-friendly. The rundown: =========== 1. Chicken Potstickers($ 9 for 5) — good quality, steamed then fried on one side(4.5 stars) 2. Shrimp Rice($ 13) — small portion but tasty rice with very fishy shrimp(2.0 stars) 3. Vegetarian Rice($ 11) — delicious! Brown rice, butternut squash, peas, and standard — made extra good with curry(4.5 stars). 4. Beef Szechwan($ 21) — good bite-size pieces of petite filet cooked near beef jerky, chili, Chinese broccoli… but really tasty(4.0 stars) 5. Pad Thai($ 19) — shrimp, rice noodles, sprouts, peanuts… no chicken… but excellent and pricey(4.5 stars) The summary: ============ Not all the time, or every time, I’m in NY, but when in the area and hungry… it’s a worthy stop.

The lobster and scallop pot stickers were wonderful! Pricy food, but it is in Time Square so it is to be expected. I’m sure there are cheaper places to get more authentic food but it is worth a try.

My boyfriend and I came here since sushi sounded good. Upon arriving, we were immediately seated, but that was the only immediate action taken. It took a good 15 minutes before the waitress came to say hello or bring us water. We were dying of thirst after walking all around Time Square, so water was crucial. However, it was the least of their worries. While trying to enjoy dinner, we instead got to enjoy an alarm going off for 20 minutes straight. During that time, they were also playing with the lights inside of the restaurant and kept turning the lights all the way down when it was already night time. This didn’t last long, but it was just a really awkward time for them to be playing with the lights. Service was slow, but our waitress was nice. I really liked my sushi, but my boyfriends food was less than appetizing and the portions were so small. I also had to ask for soy sauce, which I thought was pretty standard at any restaurant when you get sushi. So I had to wait for my food and then wait even longer to wave her down and get soy suace. It was a night of waiting! I ended up having better AND cheaper in New York, around that same area. Would I recommend this place to you? Nope!

Besides convenience for leaving the theater this is a cool place. The décor is dramatic but beautiful. You can fit large parties and they also can host large or private events. There’s Dim lighting, music, a full bar, Japanese, Chinese and thai food on the menu. The prices are fair. Always make a reservation. The influx from the theaters and times square can be insane. What we ordered: Blonde Miso Soup: Typical miso soup but they used a unique mushroom something small and with an earthy flavor not sure what kind it is. Chicken Lettuce wraps: Good not too salty like most places Pad Thai: Noodles were cooked perfectly, I liked the peanut taste it wasn’t overpowering Kung Pao Chicken: Spicy! as it should be. chicken wasn’t tough like take out Chinese food Coconut rice: This was my favorite but unfortunately it’s been removed from the menu. I have no idea why this was great dish. Bento Box dessert: unfortunately this is no longer on the menu

Let’s just say I’ve had MUCH better Asian food at my local chinese food take-out restaurant. Maybe I’m just bitter because of how overpriced the food is, but I spent way too much money on dinner for the quality to be comparable to(insert shitty chain restaurant of your choice here). I guess tourists wouldn’t know any better and would probably be easily impressed by the décor and the ambiance. The service was okay, though.

Beautiful setting with a variety of food. I thoroughly enjoyed our meals of shrimp pad thai, vegetable fried rice with curry, and chicken fried rice. Overall, the whole place combined Chinese, Japanese, and Thai food. If you’re looking for authentic fusion, probably shouldn’t be your first choice. Our food was pretty good, but small portions at a not so reasonable price.

TL;DR: good for groups, solid vegetarian options and fantastic dessert. Environment: came here for a group lunch and we had a large table in the back. It’s an Asian fusion spot in Times Square, so it’s a westernized concept of Chinese décor. The manager — maybe he was the owner? Not sure — was extremely attentive and came by several times to check in on us. The back was pretty quiet despite being out in the open — I don’t think it gets too crowded during midday though. Food: had a fixed event menu which consisted of appetizers(sushi, dumplings, edamame), entrees(assortment of meat dishes, tofu pad Thai, vegetable fried rice) and dessert(mochi, ice cream, some sort of tapioca rice pudding). All of it was very tasty; thumbs up to the veggie dumplings, avocado roll and fried rice. Friends loved the beef and chicken dishes as well. Lychee and mango mochi also are the bomb.

I went here with my boyfriend’s mom for a late dinner after our Broadway show. I was looking for good food with a very quiet and calm ambience so we can talk and for her not to feel like she was at a bar. This resteraunt offered just that. The décor was so beautiful, the resteraunt was very open and had a lot of seating available. There was soft music Playing and dim lighting. There was a full bar, a sushi bar & sit down dining. For 11PM on a Saturday night I got a table really quick. The menu didn’t have a wide variety to chose from hut definitely had all of the signature Asian fusion Choices. To start we had calamari which was my favorite the whole night. I never had calamari that tasted so good and the sauce it was paired with was to die for. We got the spicy fried rice which was also amazing and the stir fried chicken. We also ordered beef udon which wasn’t that great. The food came out really quick and was really good. The pricing here was also very fair for a resteraunt in Midtown. The only reason I’m giving 4 starts instead of 5 was because they brought out our appetizer and then our main course 3 minutes later and also I had to practically beg for the check and a bus boy had to get it for me. I asked for the check at least 12:15 and didn’t get it probably until 12:40 and they were not busy. I would definitely go back here and I would also recommend this resteraunt.

Five ***** Stars for ambiance by far the coolest art I’ve seen in Asian eateries lately. The back room behind the very theatrical red curtain is magic. But anywhere in the place is private and intimate for your party. Service is meh though. Stick to sushi and dimsum and skip the more cooked elaborate dishes which were meh too. Dessert is OMG. Do the Mochi please. Drinks are good but take forever to get to your table… Still with 15 years at this location they are a historic tried and true in the otherwise 42 street theater district jungle.

My friends and I shared two of the appetizers: Pork Bao Buns and Calamari. The pork buns were tasty, and had a bit of a twist: It came with bacon and soy marmalade. I enjoyed the extra crunch the bacon gave and the pork was tender and flavorful. The fried calamari was also delicious and extremely crispy, which is the way I like it. It came with a delightful sweet and sour sauce. For the entrée, I ordered char siu pork lo mein. Char siu pork is the wonderful tasting special pork that is red in color. The dish also came with mustard greens and was seasoned with black garlic. It tasted pretty good, but I thought the portion was a little small and I was actually more satisfied with my two appetizers than the main course. The dessert of chocolate molten cake with Vietnamese coffee ice cream and caramelized banana, more than made up for the mediocre pork lo mein. The waitress brought the dessert over with a candle in the cake. It was simply delectable with rich chocolate-y flavor and tons of warm gooey melty sweet chocolate inside the cake. This was probably one of the best chocolate molten cakes that I have ever had. The ice cream was also good with an intense coffee flavor. The meal ended with mochi with dulce de leche ice cream filling which were decent but a bit too sweet and fortune cookies.

Didn’t try any food, just came in to order drinks at the bar. Very inviting bar within walking distance of Times Square. Clean restrooms and thought it pretty cool that they were giving origami lessons. A nice place to get out of the cold and have a few drinks.

The place was great! We stopped in before going to see Wicked and had a great(but pricey!) lunch. The décor of this place is phenomenal. Service was also great… Quick, helpful and tentative. The sushi was good, although I have had better. I got the dragon role and we shared the shrimp and lobster spring rolls as an appetizer… Good but not amazing. The cocktails were delicious. Got the raspberry mint julep and a forbidden island… Both very unique flavors. We will be back!
