I visited this place for the second time last evening. To start with, two things which were consistent during both my visits: 1. ‘Drums from heaven’(Indianized chicken wings) were literally from heaven. Very tasty! 2. Impolite waiter. They offered us a not-so-good table when there was a better table available. And we had to ask for it. Now something that happened during my second visit. — I visited this place along with a friend of mine and looked up this place on Unilocal.Unilocal showed a deal $ 40 for $ 60 which was great. When we realized that our bill will be in the range of $ 55-$ 60, I went ahead and bought the Unilocal deal on my phone. — When the waiter got me the check($ 65 incl tax), I told him that I want to redeem the Unilocal deal, for which he agreed without any issues. Then he went a couple of times back-n-forth with his manager(who was sitting at the bar counter and had no courtesy towards the customer at all to get up and talk to the customer. The waiter took my phone and went to the manager for which I agreed.) to check out somethings. — 2 Mins later the waiter got me a revised check in which he himself added 18% gratuity without my permission. — I was a little stunned by this action of his and I checked with him what this automatic inclusion of gratuity was about. He replied«Whenever someone uses this deal from Unilocal,we automatically add 18% gratuity». — Now I was pissed because no where in the Unilocal deal it was mentioned about the 18% gratuity. I realize that the waiter/manager was trying to trick me in getting my bill higher. To be honest I was gonna give 20% tip because I was happy with the food. But this action from the waiter/manager made me leave this place with a very bad taste. Another point: I read a review where a person said that the waiter was rude to her when she asked if they serve Indian options and the waiter reinstated that it is a ‘Chinese’ place. This is not a Chinese place. They sell Indo-Chinese food and they have no right to call it a ‘Chinese’ place.

one of the worst Asia food I have ever had in New York. the sichuan chicken is spicy but not salty enough. the chili tofu is plain. I have to eat the rice with soy souce. BTW. can you even offer a smaller boll of dish, filling up with souce/water, vege?

I don’t like to leave a bad review, but I am compelled to do so after an extremely poor quality lunch at Nanking. Three business colleagues and I were in the mood for Chinese or some sort of Asian fusion yesterday and wanted to try something new, so we checked out Nanking. The service was good, but that’s about it. The majority of our order consisted of starchy, preservative-laden sauces covering hard, weird cuts of gamey meat. The hot & sour soup wasn’t bad — unless you expected it to be hot & sour soup as it is typically prepared. Pasty and starchy, but the alternative to the hot & sour was a creamed corn soup, and none of us had a hankering for that when we chose an Asian restaurant. I suppose Asia is a very big place, and perhaps this soup is representative of something that none of us have experienced before, but it was a strange choice. Egg rolls were similar to something frozen from Costco and not hot when they arrived. The Calamari Salad would have been okay– IF multiple pieces of rotten/black lettuce were not found throughout, causing a bitter, moldy taste for two of us. The Garlic Chicken did not taste like it was chicken. The meat was nearly inedible(and the person who ordered it did not eat after the first few bites). Perhaps a mix of dark and white meat that was defrosted too quickly and became rubbery and then tough? The Malaysian Chicken had potential — if they had used good chicken. But they did not. Nice sauce, but gamey meat and lots of strange pieces of chicken. The Ginger Shrimp had a nice taste, but it was hard to taste anything beneath the thick, starchy sauce that overpowered it. The sweet & sour chicken wasn’t bad, thanks to the breading. It was mostly onions and pineapple though. If someone forced me to return to Nanking, I suppose this is what I would order. Had someone asked us about our food(especially when they noticed that most of it was uneaten), I would have shared my thoughts with them, but nobody asked, although the workers were very nice. If I wasn’t with business colleagues, I would have definitely complained. Again, I am sorry to leave a negative review, but because this site is intended to inform others who demand quality and a good experience, I must do so. Also, this restaurant is in a tourist-y area, and tourists should know that New York has some of the best food in the world(even at restaurants with modest prices), and they don’t have to settle for bad food. If I ate here before a show, as tourists often do, I think it would put a damper on the whole experience for me. Sorry Nanking, and good luck!

This place has quite a few bad reviews so we were hesitant to go in. But if you don’t have much time before your show its not the worst place you could it. The food wasn’t aweful it just tasted bland and nothing special and the service was somewhat spotty. Only go if you are trying to find a place in eat and you only have an hour.

Service was terrible. When I asked the guy if he had Indian options he was so rude ‘this is Chinese place’. Then I had to remind him the same Nanking on a different location(exchange place) had Indian options. Then he tried to be like«I don’t know. That’s not us. Blah blah». Fuck man he was rude in the way he was speaking. Terrible. Food wasn’t tasty at all. The triple schezuan was bland and tasteless. I have had it with nanking.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience at Nanking. The food was delicious and service was also exceptional. We ate three times there out of the five days we spent in NY. I would highly recommend.

Food was good. I’m a bit biased because I don’t get Indian Chinese very often. Portions were a bit small at lunch. For a family of four with two kids I had to order two portions of fried rice. Service was not great as everyone that came in after us got their food before us. I would recommend getting takeout from here as we had a better experience a few days earlier.

The worst service ever!!! No silverware, placed empty glasses on table and no water, nobody takes order for a long time. When complained to the server about the lax service, she started giving excuses about being low on staff(on a Saturday night) and said tell that to the manager instead. Even though the food was delicious, i will never come back again!

First of all the service was horrible. It took 10min just to get our water poured and then waited for our order to be taken. Secondly, the food was just okay. Nothing spectacular, and not really Chinese/Thai. I really wish we would’ve looked up the ratings on this place before we walked in, unfortunately it was a very cold night in Times Sq. So please don’t waste your time.

Good service, prompt, and food is decent. And it’s a great halal option in Times Square.

Decided to try this location on thanksgiving day with my family. Was a disappointment as I discovered that 1) there was no Indian selection and 2) service was lacking all around. Still, I tried to make the best of it and have to say the food was still definitely good. If they fixed the mediocre service, this restaurant would be as great as all their other locations. Also, you have to ask for utensils?!

I have been looking for a restaurant with great indo-Chinese options in the city for a while and I’m so glad a finally found a reliable option! I visited Nanking with a friend around 9pm on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was definitely busy, but we were seated promptly. My friend an I ordered a few things and everything was amazing and well seasoned. The waitress was even able to accommodate steamed chicken in my dish in lieu of the fried option that’s typically available. Recommendations; — Tom yum soup — chili paneer appetizer(amazing) — vegetable manchurian — chicken schezuan I can’t wait to go back and try more dishes!

Good food, bad service. Firstly, they shouldn’t be calling their cuisine Thai-Chinese. Their food is more like the Chinese food we get in India, spicy and oily. Since we went there expecting that, we liked the food. The place was kinda cramped, but I guess that’s normal in New York. The service was below average though. The waitress knocked my sunglasses off the table and wouldn’t even apologize. Rude, one star removed…

The food was really good. Chicken dumplings and Chicken Spring rolls. The sauces provided were spot on in terms of flavor and complimented the dishes well. My friends shrimp noodle dish was great also, but I can’t recall the technical name of it.

I walked in for a casual lunch. Had lollipop chicken, steamed veg dumplings, chilli paneer and fried rice. The lollipop chicken is delish!!! Chilli paneer was pretty good as well. Cordial staff. Overall very good experience. Will stop by again.

I see a lot of negative reviews but I don’t honestly think it was pretty good here, at least my experience was. Popped in for a quick lunch and really was not expecting too much from a place in Times Square but it was a quiet Sunday afternoon and i was able to be seated quickly. I had the garlic shrimp as an appetizer. For $ 10 you get 5 large shrimps on skeweers sauteed in a garlic sauce. They were good, they could have used a tad more sauce though. I ordered the Chicken Pad Thai as my entrée and was not disappointed. I requested they make mine extra hot and they DELIVERED. Seriously, they prepared it with deliciously thai hot in that flavorful way. Only #13 for the Pad Thai entrée too. I think the food here was pretty decent and for being in Times Square that was extremely reasonable for the price. If you’re looking for a gnosh in the theater district, don’t be so quick to overlook this one.
