After signing up probably a half dozen times and then cancelling via classpass I finally went this morning and loved it. Why did I keep cancelling it — I’ve only rowed a handful of times as part of conditioning classes and was intimidated by doing it for an entire class. Silly me! Erin, was the instructor(and chearleader too!), and was welcoming, energetic and encouraging. I went to the full body class and liked how it was 3 approx 12 minutes of rowing with exercises(planks, squats, pushups, lunges) off the erg in between. I also found the beginning warm up very helpful where Erin discussed and showed us proper form. Bonus points err stars for the music not being too loud and wishing I had ear plugs. It’s a bit out of the way on the UES, but if you live near by you should definitely visit and the M86 stops across the street. I live one block away and will definitely be adding it into my classpass rotation. No showers, but there are restrooms down the hall where you can change. There is a water fountain in the hall to fill up your bottle.

Went to my first Row House class today. It was one of the better classes I’ve been to as a beginner. The instructor, Erin, was terrific. She made it easy to keep pace and push yourself as much or as little as you felt comfortable with. Erin routinely walked around to correct form and offer encouragement. Even though I’m an inexperienced rower I found it pretty easy to get through the 50 minute class. We took 2 breaks for floor exercises — mostly planks, stretches, and the like. Overall it was a good workout, they played mostly top 40 remixes, and everyone there was nice even though nobody was especially friendly. Location is pretty convenient. Unlike other locations they don’t sell bottled water or have locker room facilities. No showers, no towels, etc since Row House is renting space inside another organization. Bought a pack of 10 classes on Gilt($ 140), classes are typically $ 35 each. Would definitely keep going for $ 15/class but not for $ 35/class.

Located up high in the depths of upper east side, this row class will kick your butt. The first 5 minutes will focus around technique– so no experience necessary! The majority of the class alternates in intensity around rows per minute and the power user by your legs. It’s a great combination of a core and lower body workout. I particularly like that they get us of the urgs and we do timid and conditioning exercises. The instructors are attentive and spend an equal amount of time working out with you and walking around perfecting your technique. Its a challenging class. I reckoned of for people that enjoy this kind of cardio workout. Most of the time is on the urg. Is you need more variety in a workout, I’d recommend a bootcamp style.
