Solid breakfast option for the area. Came here on a Sunday around 1PM with an omelette craving and was able to quickly grab a seat at the bar. After looking over the menu, I ordered a western omelette(served with ham, onion, and peppers). For $ 9.65 after tax, thee meal came with a side of potatoes and your choice of white, wheat, or rye bread. The omelette was a decent size and was not overly greasy. Add some tabasco and pepper for an extra kick. Overall, this was a good and quick breakfast to satisfy a craving. I would come back to try their other breakfast options or an entrée from the lunch menu.

Food was normal nothing special. The three stars isn’t meant to be negative but more because there was nothing outstanding about this place. There was also nothing negative to say either. I probably wouldn’t return because in New York you want more diner or «New York» style and this was like any other place to eat. The service was 5 stars the people are nice. We where able to get in and out in 30 minutes which was helpful for our flight home.

My favorite local diner. Fast service, great customer service. You can tell they care about what they put in front of you. Great omelets! I love to customize my own.

Near Lincoln Center, there are a lot pricey options. It is difficult to find a reasonable spot but 72 Pier has good prices, quality and your standard diner fare. This diner has all type of sandwiches, entrees but I like to have breakfast or a late brunch. We stopped by on a Friday afternoon and it was busy but not overly packed. For the meals, french toast with bacon($ 8.95) and waffles with bananas & walnuts($ 8.50). The french toast was solid with a nice portion size and tasty. The bacon was crisp and flavorful. The waffle has a great taste with banana and walnut. I would be tempted to get the waffle with strawberries next time. I also ordered a cappuccino($ 3.50). The cappuccino was okay without much foam. I might order the regular coffee next time because it is only($ 1.65 ?). If you need the restroom, be careful on the stairs going down. The staff properly warned me but I am warning you as well. Overall, very solid diner experience the service was fast and efficient. The staff seemed very friendly and welcoming. After a Lincoln Center show or a walk in Riverside Park, 72 Pier is a great option. It was very reasonably priced for Manhattan.

A test for a good hamburger: if the ask you how you want your burger and more importantly they cook it as requested. More to come.

On my recent trip to NYC, I visited this diner again and took my Mum and her friend for brunch following a walk around Riverside park, it was even better than I remembered. There is something to be said for this diners food, it goes straight to your soul to feed it. We all ordered breakfasts of eggs, bacon or hash, toast and coffee/tea and it was delicious. When I remember my time in NYC on this trip, this is one of my fondest meal memories! Drop in for some food and a little comfort! If you need to go to the bathroom — the steps are he steepest I have seen so watch your step!

Pleasant staff handled a busy 10am crowd with professionalism. I enjoyed the challah French bread which was not decadent; it was a solid tasty straightforward dish. I added butter and syrup… and really enjoyed it. I’m usually an eggs, bacon and potatoes person. Coffee and a tiny glass of juice are included. Prices are fair. Love Pier 72! Close to home, glad they’re still dishing out the goods.

People are great, service is great, food is excellent. Incidentally, they somehow always manage to get my breakfast sandwich order wrong, so double check it when you pick up, but this is a small nitpick. I love this place.

Fresh squeezed orange juice, delicious omelette and split pea soup is a perfect start for a day. Old style diner with pleasant people serving you is obviously an added flavor to the experience.

Not sure why it doesnt have as many stars as other places. the place itself is nothing modern or hip. but it’s got a quaint neighborhood feel to it, tucked into the corner of 72nd. My hubby and I were just feeling lazy and craving normal diner breakfast food, you know the eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes work without paying an arm and a leg or feeling underdressed on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Or making the trek from uptown to downtown for more options. We randomly chose this place after reading mixed reviews, its not touristy and a really laid back place for the locals around the UWS neighborhood. I think the owner or manager is present, he seems like a jolly old man, we even witnessed the table of a family beside us who ordered plain pancakes and the younger boy didnt want to eat his after seeing our order with strawberries, and this gentleman came by to their table to help ease the young boy and their parents(and even brought fresh strawberries to add to their pancakes complimentary) it was definitely a kind gesture and a personable touch. My husband ordered the corn beef hash with eggs, while I ordered the eggs and bacon, and we ordered the pancakes with strawberries. It’s straight diner food, cooked well. You get what you paid for. But its quite a gem we found around the area. For the unobtrusive laid back atmosphere with its friendly staff, and straight-up diner food, i give this a 5 star. I think its underrated.

A little local gem on the UWS. I’ve passed by this diner many times while walking my dog, and it always seemed full of locals eating their breakfast & having their coffee while reading the paper by the window. I had a few friends in town and we decided to grab breakfast/brunch at Pier 72. Staff is super friendly and attentive. Food & menu is simple, but delicious. Portions are big. Prices are low, considering other UWS diners charge a lot more for the same menu items. Really loved this place! Hours: M-F until 7pm /Sa-Sun until 5pm

I love love love this place. Despite being right on 72nd, it’s refreshingly low-key. I usually just get a cup of coffee and toasted bagel, but the standard diner fare looks good too. What really sets this place way above average is the service — the owner is so welcoming, she always greets me with a smile! And my usual waitress is super sweet and accommodating — They always make me feel really special, even considering actual TV/movie stars pop in. It’s my goto place to relax with a late breakfast and knit a while!

Best Diner with 10 blocks of Lincoln Center. We’ve tried a few that just don’t cut it. Atmosphere is very neighborhoody, casual but not overly crowded. Very solid food at an affordable price. Came for late brunch. Scrambled eggs w/seven grain toast $ 83.5 /5 * egg and bacon were done right * home fries and toast nicely done too Turkey Club on rye and fries $ 9.53.5 /5 * very solid sandwich. Bacon perfectly crispy. Lettuce and Tomato very fresh. Maybe a touch on dry side. * fries was perfectly fried * slaw was very fresh and not overly heavy in sauce Ice tea $ 2 Warning on stairs to bathroom — it is very steep — I’m a modest 5’7″ and hit my head couple times on the way up. Won’t stop me from coming but just be extra careful, please.

Review Update! After 4 or 5 visits, I’d say this is my favorite diner in the area. It’s not open late, and its menu isn’t as expansive as true diner menus, but its sandwiches are the best around, its fries are consistently perfect, its background music is amusingly baroque, the service is always friendly, and to boot, the prices are significantly lower than at nearby diners. Details: I’ve tried almost every club sandwich and can confirm this place’s club sandwiches are terrific. The tuna club, for example, comes with hard-boiled egg in it, as all tuna clubs ought to, and the tuna is silkily smooth. And all the clubs are generous with the tomato and the greens, making for a better balance than sandwiches that lean almost solely on just meat and cheese. The omelets are solid if not outstanding, and the desserts are… not terrible, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to have them. Out of curiosity, I tried the cheesecake and the mousse cake. The former was surprisingly okay, not too dense nor too heavy, but it was fringed with a dense, hard frosting, and its plating consisted of… just putting it on a plate. The latter was too sweet. The grilled three-cheese and tomato sandwich is indeed triply cheesed, and left me conflicted. On the one hand, I could’ve done with a bit less cheese. On the other hand, I wanted a second sandwich right away. So… thumbs up.

Great local diner. affordable. İ thought this place was cash only but its not. They accept credit cards too. Totally recommend it. Few things to know, they only have eggs benedict on the weekends. And they only have florentine and plain eggs benedict. Also if u really need to use the restroom be very careful when u r going down the stairs. Its like a death trap!

First of all I would like to say service is good staff is very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu and specials second of all the tuna tartar was great a little pricey but I would pay for it again and last of all you need to better season the calamari I feel like it’s to plain but other than that the Margarita pizza was good and the Truffle tator tots were amazing

great local breakfast/lunch on UWS. Very friendly service, and comfortable home type atmosphere. Cost very reasonable so the cash only policy is fine. Eating at the counter makes you feel like a kid, and the french toast is excellent.

If you live in the neighborhood, it’s okay. If you don’t mind dealing with very steep Paris-style stairs down to the bathroom, it’s okay. If you are okay with a place that is cash only, it’s okay. If you like to marvel at weird interior design features, like a cone-shaped indent in the ceiling of the main dining area that is painted blue, it’s perfect. I’ve only ever had breakfasts here — decent portions — and cheeseburger deluxes. For those things this place is… okay. I’m glad it’s there, but I wouldn’t go more than five blocks to eat there. Make that three. Fortunately, it’s en route from my parents’ or brother’s apartment to the 72nd Street and Broadway train station. JCBF: Seemingly, once every visit to NYC. Okay?
