‘Scuse me, I call bullsh*t. First you take away H&H bagels. I lived at that place, New York. Then I discover that my go-to, my ace-in-the-hole at 4am, open-24-hours diner has closed??? Oh no you dih-in’t. Manhattan diner served up the best grilled cheese and fries any drunk girl could ask for at any/all ridiculous hours of the evening(or morning, as the case may be). My ‘hood is going to pot. Can someone PLEASE stimulate the economy before the entire UWS shuts down? Thankyouverymuch.

Still sooooo sad that this place shut down. Everything was good here. Their specials(the parmesan crusted chicken was enough for a family of four) were soooooo good. Their breakfasts, a litmus test of a good diner, were outstanding, especially their frittatas. I will miss this place, I know their sister restaurants are still open… but it’s not the same *pout*.

This was a place we stumbled upon that turned out to exceed our expectations. Delicious food that was seriously reasonably priced. Our total bill was $ 25 bucks for two people. The staff was friendly, the restaurant was clean AND our waiter was funny. The only things I would note are that it seemed to be an established neighborhood staple [the décor is not the most up-to-date] and that the clientele trends older(50+). But don’t let that stop you! It was a good time, and we will definitely be checking it out again! #YUMYUM

Having arrived in NYC at 4AM, we figured it might be fun to test the well-worn reputation of New York, NY as the«city that never sleeps.» While we found that 95% of all places are indeed still snoozing this early in the morning, Manhattan Diner was indeed still awake. We had the Energy Egg White Omelette, a few egg whites scrambled with turkey, spinach and goat cheese… a whole crap load of goat cheese. Not too bad with the mesclun greens and tomatoes. Being the only people in the restaurant made me feel pressured to leave as soon as we finished, but this wasn’t due to the waitstaff. If anything, they weren’t as attentive as they could have been… again, considering we were the only people there. Coffee and water refills were few and far between. The experience was alright and we definitely appreciated the respite from the cold(we couldn’t quite check into the hotel at 4AM), but our server was nice enough and we had the Syfy channel playing a horrible, inaudible movie that we ended up making fun of(a la Mystery Science Theater 3000, or MST3K for aficionados) the entire time we were there. Would visit again if I were around too late/too early for anything, but there are plenty of other options in the area to try before I come back here.

Getting into New York from the West Coast at 11:30 at night, we were looking for a place to eat close to the hotel and found ourselves here at the Manhattan Diner mostly out of convenience since it was across the corner from our hotel. Diners aren’t usually my favorite option for food, but I was hungry, it was late and I was tired – a deadly combination. Our group was seated at one of the corner booths in the back. We pored over the exhaustive menu debating what to order. In the end, I chose something from the evening’s specials – chicken alla scarpariella. According to the menu, it was two pounded chicken greats with peppers and Italian sausage, served over rice in a white wine sauce. Sounded tasty enough. The special entrees came with soup or salad, so I opted for the escarole and white bean soup as a starter. The soup arrived pretty quickly. I was a little disappointed to see how thick the soup was. Usually vegetable soups are hearty, but not too thick. Mysteriously, this one was very gloopy. I also think it was made with a chicken stock – good thing I’m not a vegetarian, right? I wasn’t a fan, honestly, even though our server recommended this soup over the evening’s other offering. Our main entrees arrived a short time later. I took a bite of the chicken and found it a little bland. It was served with some chopped tomatoes and garlic on top. The garlic wasn’t rendered long enough and still had that bite that you get with raw garlic. The white wine sauce was nice, but too subtle. The rice was decent enough. The peppers mixed with rice were too scarce and not tender enough. It was a pretty bland dish, to be honest. And then a lightbulb went off in my head – maybe it was so bland because it was missing the Italian sausage! I don’t know how I – or the kitchen – could miss what was arguably one of the main ingredients of the dish! While the food wasn’t very good, it was an entertaining experience coming to a classic NY24-hour diner our first night in town. Our server was very enthusiastic and kept stopping by the table to see how things were going. When he wasn’t at our table, he was getting lessons how to curse in Spanish from the kitchen staff. A mix of different characters came and went during dinner. I wouldn’t really say the Manhattan Diner is the spot to eat in NY but if you’re looking for food late at night on the Upper West Side, this might be one of the better options to consider.

Ate here late last night after just about every other place was closed on the UWS. The inside is very clean and has that feeling of the NY diners you see in movies. The service is just OK, and the bathrooms are pretty difficult to get to … at the back of the diner, through a door, downstairs, around the corner. BUT besides all that, the food was pretty great! My BF and I got their grilled cheese and nachos, which were both very yummy. They did not disappoint when it came to the food. Another upside was that the bill was only $ 18(including the 20% tip)! Since I work in the UWS please believe that I will be ordering delivery from here soon, and probably very often. Now only if they’d kick their service up a notch, I’d give them that last star. ;)

My review is for their burger. Every good diner should make a good one. I walked in and ordered one to go. The inside looks like any other diner. It seemed to filled with a lot of locals and regulars. I looked over their menu and their prices are reasonable. My mexican burger with fries was $ 10. It comes with jalapenos and a couple slices of avocado in it. The burger was pretty big! Not the biggest I have seen but still the patty was about ¾ an inch thick. The meat was nicely done, not dry at all. It came with a small side of coleslaw, a tiny piece of pickle and a small container of thousand island dressing, which I put into the burger. The steak fries were okay too.

Hmm… what should I say about this place? Yes, this place is open 24⁄7. Yes, its convenient because its across the street from our hotel(Bellaclaire) but the food is not good at all. The service was just okay. We came here for breakfast on our 2nd day in NYC and it was not good at all. Blah! My girlfriends had a salad(but we found a piece of hair in it), a Manhattan Diner burger with onion rings(which the burger meat was dry but the only good part is the onion rings), then what I had was matzo ball soup and a BLT sandwich which was just okay. But eh, I don’t think I will be back or any of my friends.

Decent diner in the UWS. DON’T get their chocolate chip cookie. It was more of a cakey cookie, with an odd fruity finish. DO get their sirloin steak, and onion rings to match. You’ll get a big salad too, and while the prices aren’t the cheapest, you’ll eat your weight’s worth. Their espresso isn’t bad, and you can’t beat the Diner’s hours; they never close. Bring friends; there’s room for a crowd. Thanks to Lily for putting up with us!

Good NY dinner — clean, fast friendly service, huge menu, all-day breakfast, open 24 hours, good food. Demerits on two counts: — the apple pie was very disappointing. Yucky cornstarch with undercooked apple slices and doughy crust. — it’s very very bright — after 10, you’d think they could turn the lights down a bit.

I love that the Greeks of New York have taken on some of the production of traditional cuilinary offerings of the Jews. This isn’t a deli, but there are enough Jewish tastes on the menu to satisfy the craving. I always order the lox, bagels and cream cheese here, and leave happy. There are numerous choices for breakfast and the place is EFFICIENT, with enough space to guarantee that tables turn over quickly. The place has plenty of Upper East Side atmosphere, and you are likely as not to run into a minor television celebrity having brunch with their kids, since several live around the corner. One caveat. The slowly rotating stacks of megacakes behind glass at the entrance always give me a shudder though, like a sudden glimpse of voluptuary, Rubinesque beauty in the window of an Amsterdam bordello. And I did not see insulin available as a side order.

4.5 stars for good service, nice ambiance and décor(for a diner, at least), and most importantly, great food. I got some grilled chicken sandwich with mozzarella and roasted peppers. My only gripe was that I wished the mozzarella was melted instead of solidified. Otherwise, still tasty. Fries were amazing; better than I thought they’d be. Desert: Strawberry cheesecake. I’ve been really into cheesecake as of late and I loved this one. Overall, everyone seemed to enjoy their entrees and the prices were decent.

This place is conducive to win for one sole thing: SWEETPOTATOFRIES. They were the kind cut with ridges, so perfectly crispy and sweet… Service was also good in my opinion, the waiter was really funny but teased a lot, to the point where you would raise your eyebrows and laugh in his face. The host was also kind, and didn’t mind our rather large party taking hours upon end to come together. Didn’t have dessert though, I was so full! I wish I had something particularly humorous to say but it’s an everyday diner, and I don’t think that would really lead to some sort of funny, well-placed joke.

I have only been there for breakfast and I am impressed by fast and efficient service for the price. I don’t think the food is anywhere out of this world, however they do a great job at serving tons of customers fast with good food. The four or five times I’ve been there I’ve had a positive experience so I’d definitely recommend here as a breakfast joint.

We came here one wintry afternoon because we had a coupon. I am glad we did though because the food was pretty good for a diner, and the service was impeccable. I had a special fritatta and it was really great. I thoroughly enjoyed the hash browns that accompanied it as well. My boyfriend had a healthier egg white only omelet with some various veggies and he really liked it as well. We had a side of pancakes as well, and they only gave us 2, which was kind of disappointing for the $ 7 price tag. I would definitely come here again. It’s a clutch diner for the UWS and the service was wonderful!

I’ve eaten breakfast here twice and both times I had wonderful meals with wonderful service. I love this place. It feels cozy and comfortable and as a diner it just can’t be beat. If you can’t go down the stairs to the restrooms they will let you use the handicapped restroom on the main floor. I loved the Mykonos omelette! The prices are very low for New York and such a lovely place!

This became a regular late night spot for my guy and I on our last NY trip, so we had to come back at least once during our latest trip. We went with my mother and brother-in-law late on a Sunday night, so we weren’t expecting top notch service. Which was a good thing, since we didn’t get it. My guy and I split matzoh ball soup and a bagel.(I know, lots of carbs, but it was late, and we didn’t want anything too heavy.) I remembered liking their matzoh ball soup on our last visit, and I enjoyed it this time too. Partly because it is some of the lightest matzoh ball soup I’ve ever had. I wish the staff had been a little quicker with our food, it’s not like they were busy. If I was in the neighborhood, and needed a late night meal, I’d still return.

Came here the other night with the hubby as we were both craving some apple pie. +1 star: Great location, right on Broadway on the Upper West Side. +1 star: Great atmosphere. +1 star: open 24⁄7 –1 star: meh service. We were pretty much ignored for about ten minutes and, despite the fact that we both ordered the same(already prepared) pie, it took another ten minutes for them to bring it out. –1 star: 2 slices of pie a la mode for $ 17!?! Seriously? Even for NYC that’s insane!

The portion sizes here are ridiculous. The lunch specials are definitely the way to go. You get more bang for your buck. The only problem… we paid for it later if you know what I mean. If you don’t, you can message me and I’ll tell you about it. Just think about your stomach and the pain… and you get the picture. It’s like any other diner except it’s in Manhattan with a clever name. We barely made a dent in our meal so our server said we didn’t deserve dessert but he let us order it anyway. It’s decent but definitely not that exciting.
