Edit: Just reminded of this place while watching an old episode of HIMYM and noticed they used the front of Peter’s(though where they filmed the in restaurant scene elsewhere). It’s really a shame this place closed down. I still miss their burgers.

This bar recently closed after being a staple on the UWS for 30 years. Peter’s had gone downhill since it peaked in the 90’s. It is sad that it has closed as there are fewer pubs in the neighborhood now as it has become quite corporate.

Reply to Courtney’s question on when Peter’s closed;;;;I happended in there near the end of June and was told they’d be closing July 1 and so it is. Unfortunate — so the question I have is, where have Peter’s smiling patrons migrated to?

Not very impressive. Essentially a sports bar, me and my lady friend wandered in for a quick bite out of necessity, before we went to the New York Film Fest. All we got was two apps, a beer and a wine and I paid $ 46(excluding tip). Ridiculous, considering the sit-down restaurant next door had the same prices(which I’d noticed afterwards, unfortunately). I had to tell the staff three different times to bring chips to the table, and it wasn’t even that busy. All in all, the food was tasty, but the service, which I value more, was lackluster to say the least.

I love this place! Always has a chill atmosphere with good people. The bartenders are nice– not too overbearing and yet always quick to serve. It is definitely a place I can always count on to get drunk and have a good time. :)

Deciding to come by here to meet up with an old friend from out of town was the choice of the aforementioned friend’s new to town friend. Next time I pick. Service here was horrendous for a lazy Sunday morning brunch. We had a table of 6 and there was only 2 other tables of patrons, yet somehow we were neglected. When I say that I don’t mean just us either, it appeared the other tables(all two of them) were experiencing similar frustrations. Everyone’s concensus was that the food was«ok» or «meh». Nothing special and the eggs benedict which is such a staple of brunch food was bland at best. I sure hope it was just an off day for them as it seems others have had great times here. Unfortunately I don’t think I can stomach giving them another chance.

I stumbled into Peter’s before a performance @ Lincoln Ctr and I just didn’t want to ruin the beautiful music of the Philharmonic if my tummy wouldn’t stop growling. Well, neither was I impressed nor was I disappointed. I had the«fresh» cavatelli pasta with pesto and my friend had their angel hair pasta with mushrooms and escargot… interesting combination. Anyways, the service ain’t bad, the food was comfort Italian, the cavatelli was al dente and the pesto was basily and creamy ^_^ I would’ve gotten the gnocci if it was in a pesto sauce, cause that’s what I wanted at that moment, lots of green creaminess… fatty but anything eaten in moderation is a-ok! They are opened till 3am and offer a special late night menu! Well, now I’m ready to sit through the perfomance without having to worry about my constant growling tummy! Awesome!

Yeah, I wasn’t impressed. The food was okay, the service was terrible. We only stopped in for lunch, so I can’t comment on the bar. The BLT was actually pretty good, but I don’t see myself stopping by again.

I work nearby. When we’ve had a rough day at work, someone, inevitably, says, «Peter’s?» and we scamper off to the bar when the day is done. Otherwise I would have never been here. As others have mentioned, $ 7 pints. I know, I know. I hate it too. But FREE chips and salsa. And FREE appetizers if you get there at the right time.(Meaning, sometimes when we get off work at 8, the appetizers are gone by the time we get to Peter’s.) But when you do get there at the right time they have huge pieces of veggies with dip, chicken fingers sometimes sliders, you name it. The only other thing I’ve ever eaten there is the hummus platter which is good but we always need extra pita. It’s a GREAT wind down after work bar. And don’t we all need that sometimes?

It was one of those nights, you know? Just a few days ago, for no particular reason I found myself strolling the aisles at Barnes & Nobles, when it was not clear what the hell I was doing in the UWS in the first place(actually I arrived late for a concert @ the Met, thanks to my stupid short-attention span which makes me forget B-days, prior engagements, and plans), I decided to make the most of it, so I quietly started picking up tentative Christmas gifts for relatives, friends and myself. I was done, time to go home. As I go down the electric stairwell, I glimpse a beautiful girl on the opposite electric stairs, going up. We look at each other and I recognized her; we had gone on a date a few weeks ago and, thrilled to have been bumped into each other by the whims of chance, we soon found ourselves talking and strolling the aisles anew. The night was clear, not that cold, but brisk and perfect for a walk. The area around Lincoln Center, vibrated in the holiday spirit, with lights and ornaments, and ppl rushing to and fro in commercial frenzy. «We should go to a café or something, you know? since we met randomly we might as well make the most of it?» — I said, and she agreed. And since chance rules the night, let him decide where we’ll go. Well, chance chose St. Peter’s. Now, pardon me for having overstretched my cinematic tale, but I needed to render the exact frame of mind in which St. Peter’s(as I fondly call him now) must be enjoyed. It was the perfect spot, the perfect café, for a perfect night. The Italian/Spanish/Greek mediterranean décor and hues of olive greens and burgundy matched perfectly with the lighting and the classically-minded statues peppered around the room. Towards the back and in front of the bar, an entrance connecting to another adjacent bar, perfect for a nightcap. We, however, got a table by the window and ordered dessert and a French and Irish coffee respectively(with whipped cream to cheer up the alcohol). For dessert, we had the Strawberry Cheesecake and the Apple pie, and though I do not have Olympian sugar senses like Atif, I must say that I liked them both. The menu seemed supple, but unfortunately, we had already eaten, so forgive me St. Peter, I will redress my transgression by eating you ardently next time, but in overall, I liked you a lot and was blessed to have met you. Ah, Unilocaler, if you only knew how much I enjoy all that is random and the produce of chance…

Everyone’s reviews about Peter’s are pretty accurate. Then why am I giving it 5 stars? Because that is how valuable Peter’s is to me. Peter’s is my «Cheers» bar. It’s where my girlfriends and I go after we work out and we negate all the calories burned by consuming tasty burgers, turkey clubs, and pints of beer. It’s my neighborhood watering hole amidst the pricey and fancy-shmancy dining options like Telepan and Bar Boulud. They have an «after hours» menu at the bar and they also have their regular menu in the main dining room. The bartenders are friendly, and they keep me coming back, despite the $ 7 beers.

Peter’s is a cozy little neighborhood bar/restaurant near Lincoln Center. I got the feeling that, if you come here often enough, they’d start pouring your *usual* the minute you walked in the door. My sister took me here the night I arrived, she had friends in town and they were all meeting up at the bar at Peter’s. I had my luggage with me and the staff didn’t even bat an eyelash, plus they seemed very accommodating to our large group. My sis comes here a lot since it’s close to her office, and I can see why they all enjoy it. They have a great beer and wine selection, a restaurant adjacent to the bar, the staff is friendly, and they have really good drink specials(I highly recommend the mulled cider with rum, one mug of it kept me nice and toasty all night long).

I really haven’t eaten here much — so can’t personally comment on the food. My DH eats lunch here a lot because he can get a grilled chicken breast, brown rice and a glass of Cote du Rhone pretty reasonably. I can however, comment on the bar/wine…the service is great, a very generous pour and after 1 or so always lively conversation. It gets pretty crowded at happy hour(not sure what the specials are). I like this place. It’s a block away from home. So many positives. I’ll get around to trying the food soon…

After cheering on friends at the INGNYC marathon, I went to meet a friend who had finished and qualified for the Boston Marathon… A friend of hers had suggested Peter’s for drinks. Plus I wanted to catch the Pats/Colts game… So I get to the bar — it’s tiny and looks very familiar – well, maybe just the bad flower arrangements and greek godess statues behind the bar looked familiar… Really? It looked like stuff that belonged in a bad wedding reception hall in NJ. Anyway, it was cozy but the service was good. One thing…$ 7 a pint of beer. SERIOUSLY??? Now, I didn’t think anything of that when I was ordering Sam Winter or Stella. But when I ordered a pint of Coors Light b/c the stella keg had kicked and it was $ 7 too, I was a little shocked. Give me a break here. Now couple that with the dismal TV option – hell, for $ 7 coors lights, you think they could spring for an HDTV or two… Nobody wants to watch football on 17in TVs mounted 4 feet above your heads or on the projector screen that makes the grass look yellow. Can’t speak for the food – though I saw what some friends got – looked like your average bar food… Anyway, point is, there are better places with colder beer and HDTV that won’t leave you wishing you had grabbed a six pack and stayed on your couch.

What the *$@# is this place?! It looks like authentic italian until you check the menu with choices of gnocchi, curry chicken, or chinese dumplings. Pick an ethnicity! The service was also weak and the food ordered was pretty bland. I’ll spell it out further. First you sit in what appears to be a cute italian place. Then you get a menu that reads like a food court. Next you realize there is a bar attached with golden tee(ok, so I like golden tee) and loud televisions/drinkers. I can’t go back. I won’t. I need to be drunk first at least. I should have hit the bar and played golden tee.

Who’d have thunk that the same area of town(Lincoln Center) that provides countless fine arts options also has a bar w/an awfully weak happy hour? If I only had the courage to talk to the botoxic blonde cougar to my right… maybe I should’ve bought her another white wine on the rocks…(the official drink of classy female lushes) Okay, maybe happy hour doesn’t always suck here but it did on the Wednesday night I showed up… But I’m giving this place 4 stars. Why? 1) Free chips and salsa at the bar and the salsa’s got a nice roasted tomato taste to it. 2) Really good burger. A friend had tipped me off to it and it didn’t disappoint. Good size. Asked for medium rare — got medium rare. The sirloin meat creates a chewier burger than normal that reminded me favorably of Burger Joint. So come for the free chips/salsa and burger, stay for the check. Pay the check and then go.
