I recently began the endeavor of buying a bicycle(as one does when one moves to Brooklyn). My friend had had a great experience at the Harlem location, and so we went to the LES location one weekend. The shop owner was very helpful, and was able to steer me towards a bike that I liked and wanted to buy. Unfortunately, the place is cash-only and the only ATM’s around are bodegas. Faced with withdrawing $ 400 from 4 different ATM’s, my bank got suspicious and shut down my card. That gave me some bad ju-ju and I ended up leaving. If you’re planning on going, make sure to have your cash on you, and/or a good friend to keep your dibs while you get cash.

One of the better bike shops in the city. Great pricing and Mikhail is a great help, especially if it’s your first time riding in the city. I came in knowing little and Mikhail taught me a lot about maintenance and general riding around the city. It’s very obvious that he cares for the safety of his customers. He lets you test ride any bike you want, performs as many adjustments as you like to ensure your comfort, and even offers a 7 day return policy if you change your mind. The shop also offers repairs and bike accessories. Great experience shopping here and definitely recommend it to anyone interested in riding.

I used to use Citibike to commute to and from work but it became harder and harder to get a bike and to find a dock in my area, so I decided to purchase my own bike. My knowledge of bikes was very limited. I stopped by a bike shop right by my apartment and the shop owner didn’t provide me with any guidance or information about bikes and expected me to know what I wanted and to just make a purchase. I then read reviews of various bike shops to find a place that would be more helpful and help me find a good bike for commuting. Pedal Universe sounded exactly like what I was looking for. The staff are really helpful and can really guide you and provide you with information so you can make an informed decision with your purchase. I was given a wide range of bikes to test drive to see how I felt on each one. Based on my comments on each bike, Miguel helped me find a bike that worked out well for me. I had informed him that my price range was ~ $ 250 and after I rode bikes of all different price ranges I found a bike for $ 200 that I liked best. He didn’t push me to buy something more expensive just because he knew that I was willing to pay more, but instead helped me find one that I was comfortable with. He had a mechanic check out the bike before I took it home and even installed the bike lights and lock that I purchased on the bike for me. Great customer service and care. Would highly recommend.
