Too bad this coffee place is marked closed even though I have not been in over a year. But I just wanted to put up a review for when I use to frequent the area and enjoyed coming in to see the neat store lined with all the different varieties of coffees in the bins including Ethiopian and from all over the world. They had decent coffee at $ 2 and change. It’s nice that Oren’s had a good handful of accessories for coffee or tea related enjoyment, from slow drip tools/machines to crafty little cups. That’s what I’ll miss most about this coffee spot: the accessories that I use to buy here like the cool mugs. They use to have these table and stools right by window to view the busy streets of 3rd avenue. Gone but not forgotten.

Oren’s is one of my favorite coffee shops. They have the best tasting coffee and the employees are so friendly. You’ll notice the variety of coffee mugs they have for sale which would be real for a cute simple gift idea. I definitely recommend this coffee shop!

I have been buying coffee from Oren Bloostein since he opened his first shop on First Avenue in the late 80s. Oren’s serves what I would call a city roast or a full city roast, lighter than a darker roast like Starbucks or Peet’s. The store specializes in varietals from selected estates. I particularly like his La Minita and Yemen Mocha. Some of the blends feature darker roasts — Oren’s Special Blend and his Beowulf Blend are worth trying. There is a good selection of accessories and boxed teas — when the first store opened I thought he did a good job of finding things that weren’t on offer elsewhere, but that is harder to do with so many coffee places around. Coffee drinks are competently prepared but not exactly artisanal. I would rate the baristas as better than an at average Starbucks but not as good as Bluestone Lane, which is the best in the area. There is an array of biscotti, cookies and pastries if you are so inclined. You will find limited seating, but I always take it back to my desk from this location. A frequent buyer’s club offers free beans as well as free cups. Recommended.

If you are looking for good, serious coffee, this is a place to find it. Oren’s roast is quite dark, but well balanced. They have the usual selection of espresso based drinks as well. The place is tiny, so if you happen to be driving around Manhattan with a bus load of people, just move along. I haven’t tried any food here, but beware that the selection is sparse. It’s really all about the coffee. Service is capable but not always exactly friendly. My last couple of visits, the folks behind the counter were more interested in talking about what they did last night than paying attention to customers. That said, the coffee was still excellent.

Your coffee taste is very good, I would rate it as the best. Unfortunately in the past 2 weeks that I have gone to your coffee shop my order was messed up 3 times. All what I keep ordering is large Iced Carmel latte with skim milk. Today they forgot to add the Carmel, and all what I heard from the guy was: Yeah It doesn’t look like you got Carmel coffee. He added Carmel and didn’t care that all what he did is gave me a coffee with a layer of syrup sitting at the bottom of the cup. I guess it takes more knowledge to understand that ice coffee will not mix with syrup at this point. New Yorkers love to take your money and skrew you up. Cheers to happy Friday morning !

I was so excited when I found out they sell Balthazar baked goods here! Way to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, Kimmy! I ordered a small almond soy latte and croissant. It didnt’ have a very strong almond flavor, but it gave a hint of sweetness to the latte. They have a large variety of flavors for an extra $ 0.50 and I believe soy milk was either $ 0.50 or $ 0.60. The latte overall was perfect though. The ratio of milk, foam, and espresso was on par and I thoroughly enjoyed it with my croissant(which I pretty much devoured). The gentleman next to me was impressed with his croissant too and even took one more to go. They don’t have many tables here. just 2 and a small bar at the window, which is nice for people watching. Their walls are filled with different coffee beans and products like tea infusers and mugs. Staff was so friendly to all the customers. There was a pretty steady flow of customers on a Monday morning. Can’t say that I’d travel to come back here, but I’d definitely hit it up again if I was in the area!

Good place, nice service and the cappuccino I had was excellent. They even did that cute little heart thing in it! Only a few tables and only negative was no Wi-Fi, but they said they are working on that.

Favorite coffee house right next to my office. The coffee is always fresh and very strong, and the doughnuts from doughnut plant are a nice addition to my afternoon coffee break. The location in Murray Hill is just as cozy.

Good coffee spot if you’re in the area. Didn’t wow me, but I respected what they were doing. Would bring non-coffee snobs here.

I can’t exactly base a review on a drink but… Service — really quick. Given that everyone has to get to work the speed of coffee serving here is phenomenally faster than your Starbucks. The baristas each take the order of customer and focus on it, you move down the line to pay and after you pay… voila, your coffee is ready! Atmosphere — very mellow, nothing too fancy. Price — I had a medium Café Au Lait which came out to be $ 2.70. Not too bad since it was a 16oz. Others seems to be priced reasonably for Manhattan also. Return rate? High because service was fast, staff was efficient, coffee was inexpensive.

Coffee coffee … Can’t wait to drink my almond latte. which was okay but not hot enough! IT seems that drinks here are not made at the right temperature… because my friends drink was too hot & we got it at the same time. I needed some good coffee, and this place is okay and i wish i could give it higher reviews, but i had to throw away half of my cofffeee. on the bright side the staff is friendly.

When the coffee is really good here, it’s 5 stars. However, as of the last few weeks, I’ve had coffee that tasted like it was hot water with a splash of coffee. I’m tired of spending $ 2 – 3 on bodega coffee. I’ve started to bring my own from home, which is so much better. Thanks Oren’s for making me save money!

This store provides one of the best espresso’s in New York, miles better than any Starbucks, where the espresso is positively flat, and they try to upsell you, American style to all kinds flavor enhanced coffees to cover the fact they don’t know how to make coffee. This Oren’s is on my route most frequently, but they’re all good. They are also a great source for paraphernalia for coffee and tea, as well as the loose product. It is clear these guys are on the job.

Love this place! The coffee is really good, a huge improvement over the ubiquitous burned sbuck stuff. I am very disappointed that I am only in town staying in a hotel because they have a wonderful selection of beans that would keep me busy for a year easily, then I could just re-explore! I also really like that they are buying and roasting their own coffee and it doesn’t feel so corporate. I found the staff to be very friendly and engaging and when I realized I had left without getting my discount card the first time I came, the counter staff without prompting punched me up for my missed cup. The place is small with only a few places to sit but it is cozy and interesting with all the coffee paraphenalia on the walls. I am sure it gets crowded during peak hurs but I have always gotten my coffee in about a minute.

Friendly service. Great coffee. Good selection of pastry goodies. I usually order an americano and the flavor is wonderful. Not quite as consistent as I would like but when I get a good cup it is a really good cup of coffee. Prices are comparable to Starbucks. They have that full bodied flavor of Sbux without the burnt aftertaste. Atmosphere is decent, nothing to go nuts about. The only recommendation would be that they have an area to pick up your beverage after paying so that you do not have to wedge your way back through the line of people :)

Well, Starbucks. Peace. I love Oren’s. The coffee is better, the people are friendly, they’re super fast, and I just feel better buying there. Iced coffee is always strong, and unlike Sbux, always COLD. Can’t recommend this spot enough, really happy its on my walk to work! Oh, and for those who are in the know, they also have Doughnut Plant Donuts. Yup, the hype is real.

Oren’s is the reason Starbucks and I broke up. Well, that and the fact that Starbucks stopped giving free refills for its gold card members. Two things I like most about Oren’s are: 1. whether you are ordering an espresso drink or a brewed coffee, hot or iced– their coffee is always strong! I am used to strong European coffee, and even I must add milk sometimes to smooth it out. 2. they have coffee flavors. by that I don’t mean they add syrup to your coffee, but they brew flavored coffees. my personal favorite is chocolate flavor for hot coffee. for iced they usually have hazelnut. unlike Starbucks, and some other coffee shops, you order your coffee before you pay, and they also add milk for you(if you ask for it). no strong feelings about that part– it is what it is. and one last thing… ask for their points card. to get your 13th coffee free.

Oren’s was a nice independent coffee shop top across from Ess-a-Bagel. The coffee was nice and flavorful and service good. People were hanging out and talking, which is always nice to see in a coffee shop, rather than just the laptop set. I hope they didn’t mind me eating my Ess-a-Bagel in there after I bought coffee. Being able to hang around, I even found my good friend her favorite coffee mug– so I ended up buying even more. Much better to support local Oren’s than getting a bad cuppa Joe at Ess-a, or sticking to the Mermaid.
