I came to Opus twice for a friend’s bongo and capoeira performance. They had a Brazilian night like on the 2nd Thursday of every month or somethin. I’m not sure if they still have that goin on. Drinks — Expensive cocktails and beers but the mojito made here was slammin. Crowd/Ambiance — Well, the 2 nights I’ve been here was that Brazilian night thing which was pretty hot. Girls shakin their asses all night long to the music. The place itself is pretty small and it got pretty damn congested when the performers started doin capoeira which was SICK! It was very entertaining. The interior of the place looks pretty dope, nice lookin furniture and all. Verdict — If they still got Brazilian night, GO! Other than that, I wouldn’t come here for any other reason. The drinks here are too pricey.

I can’t take seriously any place that inflates its elitism by not even letting in people who are on The List, as seems to have happened to many other Unilocalers as well as to myself. My friends and I – four girls altogether – came here early on a Saturday night for a birthday party, and after we had told the girl at the door that we were here for a party, she refused to let us in. And why? «Oh, we’re filled to capacity.» That lie doesn’t work too well when the people on line can see inside the club through the tinted windows. After some intimidation tactics on my part(you’d be surprised at how handy my non-anorexic frame is in this emaciated city), we did manage to get in only to wish we hadn’t. Besides being nearly empty, the club indeed was filled with cliques of people stationed at separate corners of the spacious room. The dancefloor was filled with B&T guys trying desperately to grind up on the girls trying to get their drinks at the incredibly crowded bar, which was full of people just chilling since I guess that was yet another domain for another clique. The DJ wasn’t terrible, since he did play some Missy Elliot for me, but dear God was the music loud. I could barely wish my friend a happy birthday because the bass kept cutting out my syllables, so it sounded like I was telling her about some glorious heyday instead. The drinks were overpriced and watered down, and overall Opus 22 seemed like an encapsulation of everything that is wrong with Meatpacking District nightlife. Bathroom Grade: 5⁄10. Spacious and clean, the bathroom is unisex, which would be fine were it not for the fact that the glass is nearly see-through. Seriously, what is with the barely-there coverage in NYC bathrooms?

i don’t normally stray too far from my hood when hitting the town, especially if the place didn’t come as a recommendation from friends, but a co-worker convinced me to meet up with her on the west side at opus 22 for a bday celebration. i thought, what the heck, why not? so, my friend and i braved the rainy weather and arrived at this bar with much anticipation for a fun night. two words: not good. the crowd was blah and appeared to be mainly B&T, and the venue was equally unappealing. i think they were striving for a classy, minimalist type of lounge, but weren’t quite able to achieve it. we left after 20 minutes and haven’t looked back since.

was there the other week for a friend’s birthday party. nothing special. probably won’t go there again unless someone was having a party again. it’s small… dj was ok… one annoying thing. every time we sat down, they made us move saying this seat was reserved. which was total BS. also the bathroom attendant was an ass.

The spot is a lot smaller than I imagined, considering its location in the Meatpacking. I wasn’t really feeling the DJ that night, and the crowd was kind of weird. The coat check line was right next to the bathroom line — meaning there was very little wiggle room. They need a better set up. It looks like a nice place to throw a bday party.

pretentious Show Spelled Pronunciation[pri-ten-shuhs] –adjective 1. full of pretense or pretension. 2. characterized by assumption of dignity or importance. 3. making an exaggerated outward show; ostentatious. You see where I’m going with this riiiigh? I was completely unimpressed with the way they had us wait outside and barely look us in the eye. Eventually we were«allowed» in to …:trumpet: an empty space with bored looking bartenders and very little seating areas apart from the large but ridiculous concept of the vip area which doesn’t seem so grand in a place that’s 10×12. The music picked up eventually but by then we were ready to move somewhere else

Opus 22 is another addition to the meatpacking/West St. locale. Small(comparatively) in size with high ceilings this place seems a lot bigger than it is. Cool, sleek décor and an okay crowd places Opus 22 in a solid above average in my book. Bar Service was decent and music was good. Tip: Go to the restrooms before you really need to as there are only 2 stalls for men & women!

Hell to the motherfuckin naw! Never have I had to retract my original review of any place, but w/Opus 22, it’s definitely fitting. I’ve gone from a decent 3 stars to 1, and here’s why: Positives 1.) Cheap(er) drinks. Well cocktails’ll hit you for around $ 8. Not bad for the city; $ 10+ is standard. 2.) Uh… Negatives Actually…let’s start w/why I was here in the first place. I came here last Saturday for a birthday party. The guest of honor knows the DJ, so entry was as easy as actually getting to say I’m w/the DJ, or mentioning the birthday girl’s name. Or at least it SHOULD have been. I don’t know what kind of games these bouncers were playing, but I waited no less than 30 minutes just to enter a club that was not at capacity, but instead trying to build up some kind of hype or mystique for what was really NOT going on inside. It was like Westside Story up in there! Completely polarized. Blacks, Latinos, Asians, and White people all taking up their respective corners. There were a few interracial peacemaking match ups, but I’d seen some of yous enter the club together. I just wished I’d had an opportunity to synchronize dance steps w/my partners in race to get a real racial dance off popping off in there. Nobody can Soulja Boy better than me. I’m talking to you white boy. Yeah, but back to the rest of the negatives… — The drinks were WEAK. I’m no lush(well, you can gather that anyone who ever has to preface a statement like that is well… you know what? shut up). — At one point, the bouncer shouts out«Hey fellas, if you’re not here w/a girl, I can’t do anything for you.» Poor guys waited in line for damn ever just to get hit w/that business. — It got kinda Studio54 in that piece! The bouncer literally started pulling people from the line. This time I must keep my promise. I AMNEVERGOINGTOOPUS22AGAIN. original review: It’s alright. I hate the location, and didn’t love the place. I went for an independent record release party, so I was familiar w/the artists and the crowd. That was great, but I’m not gonna go this far west again to party in a space the size of my palm.

Went with some friends to try out a new place and to meet new people and I for one will go again. I had a pretty good time at Opus, despite the slightly too young crowd and the slightly too loud music. It’s on the small-ish side, with a platform area that people can use for parties or reservations. The couches and tables are on the small side too, I suppose to accommodate the overall space. Also, there are huge mirrors in the bathroom, which is a plus. The only reason I didn’t give it more stars is because the crowd wasn’t as mixed as I like it to be and there was a group of rowdy guys who thought they could dance really well… but just ended up being annoying.

This place is a bit smallish, and consequently, gets way hot inside. There isn’t a lot of room to dance, but I guess that’s true for a lot of New York clubs. The location, however, puts Opus way out of your way, so you’re either gonna have to walk hella far to get here or shell out cab fare. And, of course, the bouncer might shoot you and your friends. That is some seriously fucked up shit!

This place was so packed I could barely move, let alone dance and have a good time. Service sucked, crowd wasn’t great, and the location is the worst…

It almost doesn’t matter that this place charges cheap cover or none at all, the fact is Opus 22 hasn’t been living up to par over the last couple of years. What was once a great place to throw a party has been overthrown with poor management, expensive drinks, bad promoters, and rude bouncers. Aside from the incident in which one of the bodyguards killed some of the patrons outside of place from a year back, this place was already on the downhill since then. The music is still kickin, but the intense crowds in a small place so far on the west side is no longer appealing, not that it ever was.

Came here for a party and it was pretty crowded… They were playing good dance music-at one point toward the end we started dancing on the sofas and tables… their bathroom situation was BAD. Two stalls co-ed. The line took like 20 minutes!

Great high-ceiling, glass-walled minimalist space. Two-for-one specials until 8 p.m. made for a fun after-work good time. We ducked out by 9 to miss the real going-out crowd, but happies were fun.

WHAT?! WHAT?! I CAN’T HEARYOU, THEMUSICISTOOLOUD!!! This place was so dissappointing not only to me, but to my guests who came for my birthday. ~You’ll want to listen to this next statement~ We knew a manager there who said she would hook us up and let us have the entire space to enjoy the night away. She was a friend of all things… guess what. she ain’t no friend no more. As the evening progressed, things weren’t too bad… then she told us we had to move, because they were expecting 3 parties there that night WTF! What a lying Beotch! When we tried to talk to her about it, she quietly disappeared for the night… of course with the LOUD blaring music, I doubt our concerns would have been heard. I gave the place a chance and it failed to shine. Hey Opus… its all about karma… figures there was a shooting there. Oh and the second star is for the bathroom attendent… he was nicest person there.

this is a great bar to go to if you like to go somewhere low key and not divey… or perhaps to catch up with some friends… they tend to make the drinks pretty stiff here, so watch out! because next thing you know, you might be passed out on the bathroom floor… not cute.

Despite several different occasions I’ve been to Opus 22(ranging from Halloween to b-day parties to DJ sets), I can’t endorse this place(esp after the recent shootings by a bouncer). The interior is cool and at first glance, you would think this would be a good bar… a decent open space with an elevated area in the back, decent amount of sitting area, hot bartenders, and good sound system with decent hip hop playing. But for some reason, this place never gets all that fun. It’s usually a fairly lame, not-so-diverse crowd. Despite the potential of this spot, I highly doubt I’ll be making any more treks to the edge of 11th Ave for this place.

Beautiful place. I saw Goldenchild perform here and everything was perfect. The waitress I had was nice(cute too) and made a hell of a Red Devil. Definitely gonna hit this spot up again.

I really wanted to like this place but it was a little too generic for my taste. Decent DJs on Saturday night but I felt like I was back at my high school dance with the music that was being played.
