I haven’t seen my friends in a long time, and we decided to go out for dinner. We weren’t sure what to eat around EV, so one of my friends decided that we should eat at NY Tofu House. This place is quite big with a reasonable price point. There were tons of kids from NYU here. And the atmosphere was definitely on the young side. I ordered their ramen and told them no scallions, when I got it, it was filled with scallions. So I had to send my food back while my friends were all eating their food. The food here was so-so. I definitely prefer Korea-Town better. Service here was also a hit or a miss. Our water wasn’t filled throughout the night, and we had to ask them a few times. And the night ended with the waiter charging the wrong amount on my card. Granted my friend and I had the same card, but he’s a dude, so I assume it’s pretty easy to identify who’s who.

Finally found a Korean house in NYC that won’t make me go broke!!! Lunch prices are excellent but dinner prices aren’t bad at all. The soondooboo is off the hook shizzle especially if you get it with the ramen noodles. The portion fits the price tag and it’s pretty big. Taste is not the best but quite some distance from the above the average line. If you get cravings for spiced up Korean soup come here. Service is pretty good(hit up a dude named Noah Sunwoo J). No partiality here seriously good food. I also had the seafood pancake and it tasted bomb. The only issue I had with it was that I was lacking seafood just a lil but still hot served in a sizzling pan. I love the fact that the menu is short and simple=good food. They know what they doing.

I have no idea how Korean soup should taste, but it was a tasty ramen dish. It was $ 16 for Ginger Ale and a bowl of ramen, so kind of pricey, but the soup would last you at least two meals. It was huge(twss :). Very limited menu, good service though.

Disclaimer: This review is for everything here but the food. This is a pretty nondescript Korean restaurant on St. Marks that enticed me to come inside for their 50% off alcohol deal… yes please. Had a few beers and a large bottle of hot sake for about 12 bucks. No complaints there. When we went here it was the middle of the afternoon and pretty dead inside. The atmosphere isn’t bad, but it didn’t look like the best place to have a great time with drinks. This is a rather plain spot with a few tables and k-pop videos playing on a big screen TV. Food did look and smell pretty good so I would definitely consider trying some if I ever end up here again in the future. Three stars. The drink deal is fantastic and I would consider changing my review if I ever try the food.

Yum! My friends and I originally were going to eat across the street but after an unbearably long wait and rude hostess, we gave up and came to NY Tofu House. We were quickly seated and given menus. At the recommendation of my friends and the waitress, I decided to order the regular Seafood Soondubu Jigae with the rice noodles. If you can’t handle spicy food, I would suggest the mild because the regular was spicy! It started off as the perfect amount of spiciness(I like my Korean food with some kick in it), but as I started to just drink the soup(there’s a lot of it!), it got very spicy… painful, yet delicious. There was a good amount of seafood and just so much food. Good thing they don’t give out many side dishes(though I do love side dishes so it’s also a shame) because we were all so stuffed and couldn’t finish our food. NY Tofu House also offers decent service with nice ambience. Solid spot with very affordable food(albeit a more limited menu) and if I find myself out of Ktown craving Korean food, I’ll be back!

Probably one of the cheaper Korean options in the area — but not at all lacking in quality. Highlights are the Soondubu, cheap house beer/sake, unlimited appetizers, and of course the continuous loop of k-pop on the TVs! Make sure to always get the dish in a stone bowl or plate if possible — it makes a huge difference in terms of taste and keeping the dish hot.

Cheaper than Korean town — yes. Better? Not so much. The menu is extremely limited, and the service is snail speed which means that there is not much to make up for the average tasting food. The perks to this restaurant is that there is never a wait for a table — probably because its on a street filled with better tasting competitors.

Came here for early dinner on a Friday and got seated right away. — ban chan selection was smaller than most places I’ve been to, only four plates but the spicy cucumbers were delicious — galbi was tender and portion size was good — ramen soon dubu was good and came in a huge ramen bowl enough for three people. I was expecting it to be served in the usual cast iron bowl but was in disbelief when they brought it out in a huge ramen bowl. I love me some soon dubu so I wasn’t complaining — Also tried the seafood pancake was good, it came out fresh on a skillet and wasnt too fishy tasting Food was good and very decently priced for korean food so I would come back again

We couldn’t get into ramen misoya so we went around the corner to this place. For the price, it’s actually not bad. However, this was a 3 hour long meal. Not because we were sitting around talking and eating(although we did do both of those), but because it took so long for them to get us food… Service was very slow, albeit friendly. I got the dolsot bibimbap and dukbokki which were both very good. Dukbokki had a nice crisp to it on a hot plate that I didn’t expect but liked. My food, however, came out very last after most people had already finished their meals. Food overall: great Service: sloooooowwwww.

I’ve been here a couple of times with my friends for dinner. Nothing over the top to expect here, just delicious Korean food and friendly service. The bibimbap was okay, not the best I’ve had but it was still good. My favorite HAS to be there LA Galbi, super good and very well marinated. ps, I LOVED their«I HEARTALCOHOL» blackboard.

From the outside, it’s easy to spot but I passed it a few times before I thought of sitting down to try it. We went in a little before the dinner rush so we got decent service and the restaurant wasn’t obnoxiously loud or busy. The side dishes were average but I liked the salad that came with our appetizer. We got the seafood pancake and I was surprised by how much I liked it. We ordered the pork bulgogi to split and it was a little smaller than I expected — I wish there had been a better pork to sauce/onions ratio but overall, it was fine. Overall, I was happy with my experience but they didn’t make me want to go back that badly.

Last Friday my boyfriend and I tried at NY Tofu House and I was very excited to try it too after looking at their menu online, but looks were deceiving. We arrived around 8:30 — 8:45 and had to wait 5 – 10 minutes just for a table of two. I’ve passed by NY Tofu House many times, but never had the opportunity to go in. I was surprised at how spacious the restaurant was. After a 5 – 10 minute wait we finally got seated. I looked at the menu and realized it was very different from the one online. A lot of menu items I saw on the website was different from the actual and physical menu. After we knew what we wanted to order, it was so hard to flag down a waiter/waitress. We saw there were a few tables that needed cleaning up, but really… you don’t need 3 – 4 waiters crowded over 1 – 2 tables to clean up. After our orders were taken, our pitcher of water came through. It was really hot inside this restaurant and the banchan came through. Unfortunately, there weren’t alot. There was cucumber with hot pepper seasoning, kimchi, bean sprouts, two bowls of soup, and two small plates of salad. The soup was good. I’ve had a similar soup before in other Korean restaurants. The salad was refreshing and I liked the peanut dressing they used. I ordered the Dolpan Bi Bim Bop(Steamed rice with assorted sautéed and seasoned vegetables served on a Korean hot stone plate) with chicken. The rice was underneath. It’s similar to a regular Bi Bim Bop, but on a plate. It was missing one key ingredient: an egg. Overall, the Dolpan Bi Bim Bop was good. No complaints except for the egg. My boyfriend had the same entrée except with beef and his had no egg either. After we finished, we were ready for the bill, but again it was hard to flag down a waiter. A kind gentlemen(a worker of the restaurant) was eating next to us and saw we were trying to get a waiter/waitress attention and he told one of his colleagues that we were trying to get a hold of him. How nice! The service and food here didn’t wow me one bit. I was hoping there would be more variety on the menu. I probably won’t be back here. Somehow the Korean restaurants in K-town are a lot better in quality and quantity.

My boyfriend and I went inside after trying the sample outside. The waiter made us wait a bit on the bench although it was pretty empty inside. We got free appetizer salad and cucumber kimchi, radish kimchi and bean sprout pickles. Pork Jigae was so good. It had so much tofu in it and tasted flavorful! I got«Hot» for the spiciness level and it was pretty spicy for my taste(I love SPICY!). I really loved it. A lot better than jigae from Food Gallery! However, my white rice in hot stone bowl was so burnt that I couldn’t enjoy a turn for soup and a turn for rice! Beef Bimbimbap in hot stone bowl was yummy, too! It was a little too sweet for my taste but the meat tasted amazing! We both loved it!!!

I went to this place with my niece, who was craving for some yummy Korean food. We had beef bibimbap on stone plate and seafood pancake. The food came out very quickly. The portion was huge. We were stuffed. Staff were very friendly. My only complain was that the rice in bibimbap was not crispy. :P

this is a solid 3* The tofu soup with seafood and udon was pretty good, but would have been much better if served in a hot stone bowl. the soup got cold fairly quickly. The bibimbap was pretty hefty, but again, the hot stone plate wasn’t very hot, so the rice didn’t crisp properly and the rice got cold fairly quickly too(i actually eat very fast, so i can’t imagine if slow eaters were eating here) along the same theme, the tea in the teapot was lukewarm, and the persimmon tea was pretty tasteless reasonable prices; wish food was HOTTER/Warmer

I don’t know. NY Tofu House seems to be decent to me. I can’t find anything special besides they are famous for their tofu stew. I ordered the clams tofu stew but I can literally calculate the clams. 1,2,3,4. only 4? really? and the rest of it are tofu. it’s like eating spicy tofu fa. the regular was spicy enough for me to enjoy. There aren’t many unlimited side dishes. You can come here for some korean food and listen to some korean music here.

Thought it was time to re-review this place since its been a while. I came here with my niece, sister and brother-in-law for a quick lunch. There’s something about the food, service and/or ambiance that makes me love this place. The food is good, the quantity: abundant, and the service is fast and great. Whenever asked about lunch locations with this group, NY Tofu House is always on the short list.

This place is excellent. Great taste, great service, and reasonable price, especially at lunch time on weekdays with 30% discount. We had a seafood Tofu soup and LA Galbi with the complimentary pan chan small plates.(only 3 kinds) What impressed me most was the way the rice was served. It was served in a hot cast iron bowl with the bottom of rice crispy and nicely browned. The complimentary small plates were only 3 kinds but the staff brought another ones once we finished the first servings. That was nice. This is definitely one of my top choice restaurants on St. Marks Pl.

After a unparalleled feature performance at the legendary Bowery Poetry Club on New Year’s Day 2012, with a friend we trek to NY Tofu House to what would be our numerous stops for the evening. Immediately when my friend and I sat at a table we ordered alcohol when the wait staff said«we do not have a liquor license.» Ergo, we made our abrupt exit after learning this information.

Finally, I don’t have to walk all the way up to K-town to have good Korean food. This place is not your typical full sized Korean restaurant. Think of it as a mini version of that… like 1⁄3 of it. Then again, everything on St. Mark’s is tiny. I walked by last night and noticed the place is now open for business, so I decided to check it out. After all, the«Coming soon — NY Tofu House» sign has been up for awhile, and I’ve been curious as to what they serve. When I got in, the hostess kindly greeted and told me that they were having a grand opening party and everything was free. I mean, SERIOUSLY, when was the last time restaurants give out FREE food without having to pay for anything, or at least be on the VIP list? And it wasn’t the kind of bite-sized freebies you’d get in the mall that comes with a toothpick. NOPE! It was more like a buffet! For a brief moment, I actually thought she was blowing smoke up my ass! So I scoped around quickly and noticed almost everyone got food on their hands and few were waiting on line. Well, I guess free food for everyone then! I had the Tofu Fritters(reminds me of Taiwanese fried tofu), Tofu Tangsu(basically Tofu Fritters with mixed veggies), Chicken Bulgoki, Beef Bulgoki, Spicy Beef Bulgoki, Dolpan Bi Bim Bop, and Fried Rice. They were all good, not too sweet, not too spicy. What more could I ask for?(I couldn’t, they were FREE!) Next time I go, I want to try the Jalapenos Peppers and Monkey Balls. That’s right, Monkey Balls. No idea what it tastes like, but the name certainly sounds enticing!
