BAD Chicken! I came here in May 2009, and oh boy was the chicken bad. I was hoping it was Korean Fried Chicken, but it is not. The seating area in the back is ghetto and unkept.

i came here friday night as i am currently on a diet and fridays have officially become my cheat days. i order the sweet and spice wings with a side order of mac and cheese as they were out of gravy for the mashed potatoes and my friend gets the wings of fire with fries. I loved the sweet and spice wings(although i was starving so that might of compromised the true taste) it was sweet and mildly spicy. the wings of fire are literally wings.of.fire. although i am a spice pussy so what do i know. on the down side, the mac and cheese is eh. the fries is ehhhhhhhhhhh. the portions are also small and therefore not satisfying if you are looking to ease your supreme hunger. oh and btw. i live in sheepshead bay and i swear to god i drove by a bbq chicken on nostrand ave that is about to open up. My trial here was a long time in the making. First, I was too busy to be in the area, then they closed for suspect reasons, finally, one night I bucked down and indulged after yoga. Discipline has never been my thing. There is a long wait, and call me crazy but I’d rather wait a bit for hot, fresh wings than to get tepid wings before I even hand over my cash. It is a little expensive, for which I have no defensive argument. The chicken is juicy and extremely greasy. I got the plain olive oil ones. They’re kind of a cross between Popeye’s and Bonchon, both of which I would gladly eat fo life, so their bastard love child is more than ok to hang.

Looks like they are temporarily shut down this week by the Department of Health along with the Bubble Tea place for failed inspection. I see them cleaning up and hoping to reopen again.

This time, I had the spicy wings combo. It came with fries and about 5 wings. Boy was it finger ling ling good. Crispy, sweet, flavorful. The fries were okay, not really that special. It wasn’t frites and it wasn’t waffle fries. But it’s not bad for $ 5.95.

I only give this 2 stars because I waited about 15 minutes for olive chicken fingers… WHYSUCH A LONGWAIT?! I was the only one in line at the time, too. The chicken fingers were good($ 4.95 + tax, 6 strips or so), don’t get me wrong, but man, I wanted to chew my arm off cause I was so damn hungry!!!

I’m surprised by all the bad reviews of this place. I got 10 wings, 5 olive oil and 5 sweet, and it took about 5 – 10 minutes to get ready. They were a little expensive($ 8 with student discount) and weren’t that big, but they were still pretty tasty. If you have a group it may be worth it to go there and place a larger order so you can get various flavors and better pricing. I went on a Sunday night so it was pretty empty… not sure if that’s the reason why my wait was so short compared to everyone else.

I was pretty excited to try this place out because it’s been«Coming Soon» for an eternity and when I finally stopped in last week. well. it’ll probably go the way of Quizno’s, San Marcos, Good Dog, and all the other mediocre places that have closed on St. Mark’s. Granted, the chicken was pretty good, definitely noticed a «lighter» taste compared to say, a Wendy’s chicken sandwich, but it wasn’t very flavorful and considering that a sammich, small mac n cheese, and water ran me $ 11, and we waited ~20 minutes, enough time for a call from my mom(that’s a long time), I’d be hesitant to go back.

i absolutely LOVE korean fried chicken. i was so excited to see the sign in st marks bc it was my favorite korean fried chicken place in Korea, but it took forever to open! And even when it opened, the wait was quite long, but the original chicken was crispy on the outside and super juicy in the inside. i had bonchon in DC and it was AMAZING!!! i’m going to try the one on 32nd and 5th next week. this place was pretty good,(not as good as the real deal in Seoul, but it satisfies my cravings! and not as good as the place on 7th ave — just found out it has been closed! so sad!). i’d go back for more since the 7th ave one is now closed.

I like the Col-Pop Chicken. The medium size is perfect for me. Popcorn chicken served in a container that fits like a top over your soda. Yum. Prices are decent. It’s a good place to grab a snack and hang out with friends(snag a table in the back to chill out for a while). Conveniently located in the same storefront next to Tea Kettle — so if your friends don’t feel like eating chicken, they can get some skewers and bubble tea =P

My boyfriend first went to BBQ Chicken and had the Col-Pop Chicken and he started saying how good it was. He wouldn’t stop talking about it so I finally went with him and give it a shot. First of all, I love fried chicken so this was something I was really looking forward to. We ordered the 10 piece Teri-Gold Wings. I had to admit it was a long wait but it was worth it, not to mention we had a pineapple slushie right next door(Tea Kettle) and it was quite good. The chickenw was really good, the right crunch, the right seasoning, and not much oil at all. Its worth a try if you like fried chicken like I do and you’re in the neighborhood. Thumbs up to BBQ Chicken, now to try the other chickens on the menu.

I sorta have a love-hate relationship with this place… the idea is cute — «light» fried chicken deep fried in olive oil, and ‘popcorn’ chicken bites that fit in a compartment right on top of your soda cup… «healthy» and reasonably tasty~ but the wait is just awful… Most of the time there is only one person running the entire place and that one person takes 5 minutes just to process your order, often allowing others to cut right in front of you! and I don’t know what he does in the kitchen either because it took him over half an hour just to give me a small order of chicken! just thinking about it infuriates me. oh and their wings of fire are hot. really hot.

I would almost never try out a 2.5-star rated place but a combination of a stellar wing recommendation from 2 close friends, both foodies and the fact that the dosa man wasn’t in Washington Sq Park today led me to BBQ Chicken. And I’m sure glad that happened as judging purely on the wings of fire and bb wings I tried, this place is severely underrated. If you’re a fan of KFC hot wings(which if you’re not, you’re just being a hater), you’ll be a fan of this joint. The wings were indeed plump, moist, juicy inside and the exterior was perfectly fried in olive oil. The wings of fire had this awesomely spicy, with a touch of sweet, sauce splattered on them and the bb wings had flavor in the batter but were even better when dipped in honey mustard and bbq sauce. Only downside is this place did take a lot longer than it should take to make wings(waited about 15 – 20 min after he quoted me 10) but it was worth it(particularly since I have nothing else to do but wait for wings).

It took a while for this place to get up and running. I went to try out their fried chicken and was thoroughly disappointed. For one thing I don’t I actually tasted actual chicken(more like just fried breading dipped in way too much sauce) and the wait doesn’t even justify the terrible food.

This place took forever to open. I had the teri-gold wings. They were alright… not as good as Bön Chon, but if I really had a Korean FC craving, I wouldn’t trek all the way to Ktown just for Bön Chon. This would suffice. Service is kind of spotty. I asked tons of questions when I went and the girl wasn’t too annoyed. Not a good place to go if you’re in a rush(and same goes for the dumplings at T-Kettle).

Says BBQ but this is fried chicken that spells soul food with an extra e(Seoul) and thinks the K in KFC stands for Korean. The biggest difference vs. the Kentucky variant isn’t the spicing(which was rather tame) but the crunchy, fluffy crust thanks to the olive oil vs. pseudo trans-fat oil bath. The flavor was all right but I’d rather save my fried chicken binges for my visits uptown. Will have to try a place like Bön Chon to get the true KorFC experience. The accompanying biscuit is nothing special. I was kinda hoping they’d sneak some pork inside(like a biscuit meets a pork bun) but no dice. They’ve also got sandwiches and different types of spiced wings. If I go back, I think I’d go for the wings…

You know, I waited for this place to finally open and now I wish it NEVER opened at all. Sooo disappointing indeed. I had high hopes for this place; as I’ve been to several different locations in NY that had the«Korean» style chicken and this place wasn’t it. Pros: Portions are large Chicken is moist inside Gets you full If they’re not busy they will sometimes bring your order out to your table. Cons: Chicken breading IMO is similar to Dallas BBQ’s restaurant.(not that good) Spicy chicken wasn’t spicy at all and it was cold. Spicy chicken was basically regular chicken cooked and then dunked into a vat of sauce. Breading wasn’t as crispy or had that patented double-fried skin. A bit too oily. Korean fried chicken it was NOT. A bit pricy for chicken that taste the same as my local carryout. Just because a bunch of Koreans fry it, doesn’t mean its Korean double-fried chicken. Want a better/real Korean chicken, head to Bön Bön, Bön Chon, UFC or any other Korean chicken joint in Flushing.

I tried their terriyaki wings. These are korean style fried chicken. By that, I mean, the wings are fried with crispy outer shell, moist & juicy inside, they are flavored(no need for dipping sauces), and they serve liquor here. Very unique, it’s extremely crispy and tastey. I would rate these wings a hair below Bön Chon’s. Irrespective of the rank, I can’t wait until I revisit this place. I have to try their olive chicken; besides, when I get sick of Bön Chon’s, I’ll go to BBQ Chicken. ps: you have to travel down a long staircase to get to the restrooms(staircases & alcoholic beverages Do Not Mix Well).

BBQ Chicken, the 2ndNYC franchise of the Korean chain finally opened tonight. There was no crowd or special grand opening, which seemed strange considering New Yorkers’ proclivity for anything food or new. The restaurant space, shared with T-Kettle, has been in a ready-to-open state on St. Marks for about 8 months and just recently they put up the menu, put lots of take out boxes on the counter and hung a weird hanging partition between the kitchen and cash registers. I’ve tried its other NYC sister, Chicken and Beer after Ed Leivine raved about it. It was only ok. The St Marks location shows much more promise. The menu is pretty standard fare, what you might expect at KFC, but the quality was far superior. Their chicken is fried in extra virgin olive oil, not canola or corn oil, which seems to give it a richer taste. Service was speedy, especially compared to chicken and beer, which left us waiting 20 minutes for our food. The chicken was great. The biscuit and coleslaw were nothing special, but more than acceptable considering the price and convenience. I’ve heard the Teri-Gold wings are where the fun is, most likely similar to Bön Chon’s soy garlic wings. One more solid place to add to the list of decent eats on St Marks…

This place is very close to opening. It’s Korea’s largest fast-food chain and apparently makes amazingly good fried(not barbecued) chicken, fried in olive oil. There’s also a new bubble tea place adjacent to it called T-Kettle.
