This is no joke our favorite Chinese place to go to in the city. We had been coming here since they were called Shanghai Gourmet and were, frankly, alarmed when we saw it was gone. But stepping inside, everything looks the same and when we asked about the change we were informed that it is the same chef. And we had guessed as much, since the food was as on point as it had been before. We have had multiple dishes here, meat and vegetarian alike, and we are always pleased. They have some of the best xiao long bao I’ve ever had(and, to be THATGUY, I’ll say I used to live in Taipei) and everything is always fresh. Our most recent trip was during lunch special time and for $ 5 I got a big plate of shredded pork in garlic sauce with soup and a rice, and of course the always complimentary tea. My boyfriend got another $ 5 lunch special– a vegetarian noodle dish with greens– which was also amazing. Both fresh and rich in flavor. Add a bubble tea(fine) and a scallion pancake(boyfriend’s favorite side dish, and this place has his favorite in town) and we paid less than $ 20 for a great lunch. Definitely stop by if it’s lunch time, but you should probably just try it in general. It’s always less crowded with weird tourist bros than certain nearby establishments, and I know you dont want to wat with them, anyway.

Honestly, I came upon this restaurant with my friends and wife on accident and all I can say this was the best accident ever. I tried their pork dumplings steamed and fried, Both amazing. I then tried another another appetizer called beef pancake, This dish almost made me cry when I tried it. My main entrée was a General Tso, All have have to say is this is what General Tso should taste anywhere and everywhere. Cold Noodle dish was amazing as well, careful its a bit spicy. The service was very caring as well, it was ridiculously hot out side and they sat everyone in front of a Fan to cool everyone down. Another great thing was the prices were amazing for how good the food tasted. I will definitely visit this place when ever I am in China Town.

Really good hand pulled noodles. Lamb cumin hand pulled chow mein was awesome. Beef hand pulled noodle soup was super flavorful. Will be back. Our waiter was attentive and hospitable.

Joe’s-style* xiao long bao, by not Joe’s. Not even by Joe’s Ginger. They’re not as good, of course, but they take card here, a BIG plus. They get an extra star and a half for that. Only had the first 3 items on the menu. The XLB were overcooked despite us only being one of three tables. Almost all burst when carefully extricated from the steamer. The crab had better flavor than the plain, which had a slightly wrong flavor profile. Pan-fried dumplings had an even wronger flavor profile. Still, all in all, a good alternative for when you don’t have the cash or the time to wait in a line down the street. Would definitely come back for their namesake when it’s cold enough to face down a steaming bowl of noodle soup. *Is there any other style on Pell St?

This place changed its name. Funny seeing tourist getting this restaurant with confused the another famous hand pull noodles down the block. I had the crab and original soup dumplings here and as usual the original is better than the crab. The dumpling skin is much thicker at this place but still good. I also had the cumin Lamb which was really good.

You get to watch them hand pull the noodles and the food was tasty and fast. The waitress was also good at stopping us from over ordering which was a nice change of attitude.

Pretty good, could of gotten a fifth star if there’s anything that resembles service. I guess they’re still trying to figure out the business’ identity. Been here 3 times already for the hand pulled noodles soup. All 3 times they were training a new server. But, this IS Chinatown, so I’m not expecting good service anyway. Noodles were top tier. Near perfect consistency and texture. Broth was well season and doesn’t taste like hot MSG water other places do. And the lunch special! $ 4.95, with soup and rice. Even for Chinatown that’s cheap! And delicious!

Ordered delivery today. So good and ridiculously cheap for the amount of food we received. I will definitely order again, perhaps even make a trip to eat in!

We looked at the menu outside the window, instantly the server came outside and gave us information about their famous noodles and delicious dumplings. And he was correct, food was amazing along with excellent service. Definitely make sure to try the dumplings.

Formerly Shanghai Gourmet, New Style Hand Pulled Noodles provides a solid option in Chinatown, particularly if Joe’s next door is at capacity. I’m not a soup dumpling connoisseur by any means, but their pork dumplings were particularly good, with super thin skins, extra fatty broth, and nicely seasoned meat inside. They’re slightly smaller than some I’ve had before, but I actually prefer this since I can eat the whole thing in one go after drinking the broth. We also tried the mixed vegetables(standard, but very fresh) and the stir fried hand pulled noodles with beef. The noodles themselves were awesome, and it was really cool watching one of the chefs making them in the back of the restaurant. The thick noodles had a great chewy bite to them, but I’m still not sold on the sauce; we went the entire meal trying to guess what the flavor reminded us of(we settled on slight notes of barbecue). Would definitely come back for more soup dumplings and hand-pulled noodles, though perhaps in a soup dish next time.

We were looking for a different noodle place and came across this one. My daughter just graduated from CIA the day before and we were sightseeing before heading home. What caught her eye was a picture of some famous chefs in the window. Then the gentleman came outside and talked to us… It was cold and the soup looked hot so we went in. The juicy dumplings(which we never heard of) were absolutely amazing! So good. If I ever go back I’m eating it as a entrée! They made noodles in front of us! Allowed me to take photos and video it. The soups all hit the spot. Great flavor, large portions, friendly service, and hot tea! Perfect for our night.

Saturday night at 8, no wait, two thirds full with Asian diners. We were a party of four. Very bright and clean. Soup dumplings were excellent, General Tsao’s Chicken was the best ever — tender, perfectly crispy batter, slightly sweet. The beef noodles were very good — held their consistency nicely. Only one minor hitch: I ordered a plum wine, was not on the menu. The nice server did not understand. After the second try her face lit up with a great smile and a nod. She proceeded to proudly bring me a Budweiser. I didn’t have the heart to refuse, and like Bud anyway. $ 55 for four.

Attempted to go to Shanghai Joes, only to have a terrible time being seated, so we walked 20 feet to this place instead for some soup dumplings. We ordered crab soup dumplings, pork soup dumplings, rice noodles, scallion pancakes, and mooshu pork. Everything came out really delicious and fresh. Our first order of soup dumplings came out lukewarm. The filling in the dumplings were a bit mushy and the soup was not as seasoned as I would have enjoyed. Service was great, but as the place filled up, the less hospitable service felt.

Was formerly Shanghai Gourmet but must be under new management or new owners. Smaller menu, less dim sum. Had the pork soup dumplings, lamb hand pulled noodles, pea shoots, scallion pancakes, and eggplant with garlic sauce. Soup dumplings still stand up to what Shanghai Gourmet served. Delicate shell, decent juice. Lamb noodles had a nice spice profile, pea shoots were tender and softly crunchy. Eggplant had fantastic glazing and good flavor. I was only meh on the scallion pancake which was very fried, low on scallion, and kind of bland.
