CLOSED!!! Wahhhhh!!! As of St Pattys 2015, sad sign that they closed its doors after 50 years! We had our after Justice of the Peace dinner there, and have spent numerous bdays, anniversaries, and st Pattys dinners, and we were excited to go this year for St Patty s. Then the crushing disappointment of the closed doors. Thanks Moran s for being there as we started our young new married life together and for being our traditional spot for the last 7 years! Tom, you will be missed! Thanks for greeting us like old friends for so long. We will miss that toasty fire during Christmas, and will remember Moran s fondly on our anniversary

If I could give this place ten stars I would. Moran’s catered my wedding in Brooklyn and I could not have had a better experience working with them. All of the staff is incredibly professional and very friendly. Tom is an absolute pleasure to work with. My now husband and I were treated amazingly at every tasting and every meeting we had with them. Many of our guests specifically came up to me at our wedding(including a picky chef friend!) to tell me how amazing our food was. Even after our wedding, people have commented on how great the food was. I don’t know about you, but how many weddings have you been to where you’ve COMPLIMENTED the food?! HUGE win! We’ve been in a couple of times since our wedding and will no doubt be back many more. Highly recommended for a drink, dinner, brunch, or a wedding!

I was a bit disappointed with my server Ben. He was cold and very unaccommodating when it came to simple requests such as having blue cheese as a side with my fries. I understand some of these decisions are outside of servers hands but he didn’t even make an effort to try and get it done. Along with that he was a bit rude. In terms of the food, it was great as always. Moran’s continues to be one of my favorite burger spots in Chelsea. I highly recommend the Gaocho burger the next time you’re in town.

I felt the food was mediocre at best. I ordered a crab cake sandwich for brunch — the crab cake was the frozen from a box variety and the bun wasn’t even toasted. The only thing fresh on the plate was the fries, which were over salted. My husband and I each had an entrée and I had one mimosa, the bill was $ 60 with tip. Next time, we will pass on this one.

Great service and great food. We started with the calamari, caprese, and the baked clams. After the apps we were so stuffed weren’t straight to dessert. The apple pie is made in house! Yum

Morans is a tried and true neighborhood gem especially on a cold night. The fireplaces are a great refuge. Apart from the good menu, unfortunately one needs to ensure that the wine ordered from the menu is the exact wine served at the table — not something similar. Attention and honesty is needed here. More is expected from this usually stellar spot!

Came here for a holiday party and the band, buffet and drinks were all great! Nice sized dance floor and lots of rooms to hang out in depending on your preference. Service was friendly and though food wasn’t the best I have had at a buffet, it definitely filled me up and gave me the energy to party all night on the dance floor. Desserts were served as passed items and were quite plentiful and tasty. Great place for a holiday party and I will be back!

My husband and I had the most delicious Thanksgiving dinner here yesterday. Our family has been going to Moran’s for over 35 years and have had baptism, birthday, graduation, wedding rehearsal, baby shower and Christmas Eve celebrations here. This is our favorite time of the year to go. Moran’s is an old time Irish Tavern with lots of dark wood, Waterford crystal and big fireplaces. It is beautifully decorated, especially at Christmas time. The friendly, welcoming staff, especially Tom Murphy and Colleen, is probably the main reason we keep going back. It’s like going home every time we enter this warm, cozy restaurant. And… the food is great! Kathy H. NYC

I first came here for a friend’s wedding. The place just had a great ambiance and the food was great. During cocktail hour I’d see all the plates coming out and knew I had to come back for a meal. I have been here several times and its one of my favorite restaurants. Brunch is my favorite! I have never had anything less than amazing all the times I’ve eaten here. The waitstaff is great with recommendations and the service is good as well. Highly recommend the truffle fries and whatever the specials are of the day. The specials are always A+++! Be warned that the dessert«menu» is when they bring over a huge tray of slices of yummy looking cakes. Its hard to say no… sometimes you need to tell them you don’t want to see the dessert«menu»

Visited this place again specifically for the angel hair pasta which I had loved last time. The pasta itself still top notch and still maintained the great taste! Am however reducing the * rating overall — Beware that they allow folks to smoke when seated outside. Not sure if it is legal or not. either way secondhand smoke could ruin your whole experience of this otherwise great place.(When asked about this, our waitress avoided a direct answer)

I went there with my friends on Sunday afternoon. The restaurant looks nice the host seated us inside the dining are we were waiting for the server and the menu like 15 minutes. After we ordered the food it took them at least half an hour until we got the food on the table, at the time there was a few customers and have no idea how that the kitchen people couldn’t kick out the food right in time as we order pretty much simple dishes. We were asking to get our water refilled and it took the waiter forever to come around and filled us the water as well as after we asked for the check I repeat it took FOREVER. If you just walk pass by this place and feeling like trying this place out !!! I would say that better NOT !! Too bad that I give just one star otherwise I will give Zero star!!!

This review is based strictly on the pleasure I had of attending a tasting meal with my friend for her upcoming wedding. I can’t attest to a regular dining experience here, but they were absolutely lovely to work with in preparation for her fall wedding. Moran’s has a large, private room in the back of the restaurant that can accommodate up to 150 people and can also serve as a ceremony venue. It’s full of dark wood, has a fireplace, and is a wonderfully cozy atmosphere. The told my friend and her fiancé that they could bring along another couple to help them at their tasting, and Hubby and I were thrilled to volunteer our tasting services! We were able to sample a couple of their salads(a refreshing pear and mixed greens, and a heavier candied walnuts and goat cheese) which were both done EXCELLENTLY. We also had a sampling of passed appetizers — our favorites being the lamb chops, the vegetarian cheese enchiladas, chicken skewers, and baked clams. Of the four entrees we sampled, the filet mignon blew it out of the park. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. We also loved the red snapper entrée. For dessert we all enjoyed the lemon meringue pie best, as well as the coconut sorbet. The crème brûlée, though pretty, was disappointing in texture. Tom was a perfect host and great to work with! If you’re planning a private event, definitely check this place out!

Mediocre food at high prices. We give it an extra star for the friendly and gracious service, as well as the mellow vibe(for a bar). But man, were our burgers crappy: the beef is a cheap blend of scraps, way overcooked despite our asking for rare. Buns are Pepperidge farm. Iceberg lettuce, wilted. Fries are limp. How can they screw up a burger and fries so badly? Do not, repeat not, go, unless you can’t get in Artichokie pizza, which isn’t great, but is infinitely cheaper. And, come to think of it, better.

Despite the reputation and price, everything about this place seemed average. The food is served as mundane as it gets. What disappointed me the most and caused for this 2 star review is that for one dish, it is completely destroyed: Bolognese became ground beef in some sort of clear sauce. The penne vodka was good, but average for Italian restaurants. The BBQ spare ribs were also quite average. All in all this place is average.

Moran’s Restaurant was the site for our Wedding(Ceremony and Reception). We cannot say enough about this venue and the staff. We had such an incredible experience from the first time we met Tom Murphy(the General Manager and all around great guy at Moran’s) through the tasting and various visits, and of course on our actual wedding day. Anytime we were stressed out about something and we talked to Tom about it, his experience and confidence immediately put us at ease. Tom was there to help us with anything and he was absolutely amazing throughout the entire experience. The rest of the staff too, were so pleasant and accommodating, and the wait staff were very attentive to our guests needs. The food was AMAZING! Two separate guests came up to me and said it was the absolute best wedding food they ever had. And another guest said they can’t wait to come back next time they’re in Chelsea because they loved the food & décor so much. Speaking of the décor, Moran’s has such a warm and comfortable and yet unique and eclectic vibe about it, which we really dug. There is a fireplace in the banquet room(which is where we got married in front of), and lots of nice deep wood and beautiful glass and brass and paintings and just a variety of things around, which make it so interesting and cozy. We looked at many venues in the process(probably about 10), but as soon as we saw Moran’s and tasted the food and met Tom we knew we found OUR place! The price is very reasonable for NYC and you get a lot with it including open bar, great appetizers for the cocktail hour, a delicious main meal, cookies and coffee, as well as free parking for guests who drive in at the lot on the corner. We heard many compliments on our choice of venue from the food to the staff to the décor, and we as the bride and groom were so very very happy with our experience there. We highly recommend Moran’s for your special event. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions about Moran’s for private events.

I went here this past weekend for brunch with my family. It seemed a bit under-staffed for a Sunday afternoon and as such the staff appeared rather flustered which is suprising considering how popular weekend brunches are. That said, despite a very flustered staff, they were all very polite and attentive, especially our waitress and the host. The food was very good and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. If I am ever in the area again, I will definitely return.

Three of us wandered into Moran’s for a late brunch on a Sunday afternoon. We were seated right away inside(outdoor seating had a wait). My friend ordered a bloody mary, which was all ice and pretty bland. My sister ordered a mimosa which she liked. For our food I ordered the Waldorf Salad, which was a little heavy on the mayo for my liking and a small portion for the price. My friend ordered the gaucho burger which he really enjoyed(the pineapple was a nice touch). My sister ordered the huevos rancheros(I tried a bite and they were amazing!) Overall a decent brunch/lunch place in Chelsea.

** 3.5 stars ** Moran’s is a very long-standing neighborhood restaurant in Chelsea. It is also prominently a cozy event space, and this review is for a wedding ceremony, reception, and dinner held here. Low-key, masculine, everywhere brick and dark woods, accented by colorful, stained glass chandeliers. It is a handsome pub, steakhouse, and classic American eatery. The divided dining rooms allow for private events, and the environs make an intimate, romantic venue. Set-up between the events appeared seamless, staff were efficient, and the space comfortable. The ceremony was held in a large dining room, before a wood-burning fireplace. The reception in the main dining room where the pub is located. Then back to the large dining room now set up with tables rimming the perimeter, between brick columns. It refreshingly lacks that catering hall feel, where even each table feels apart from the others. A small live band also worked well within this space. The food is a step up from typical wedding catering hall fare. A mixed green salad with pears and almonds to start. Entrees of filet mignon, sea bass, and rack of lamb were reasonably well-prepared and seasoned. If this represents their usual menu, it is solid, neighborhood dining although not destination good. Without question, Moran’s is a great event space, especially if its style of retro, handsome, and intimate ambience is desired.
