This really is a mixed review cause you really have to weigh the pros and cons. The place is very nice and is very cozy and comfortable. The pizza here is EXTREMELY cheesy, which can be a good or bad thing. The garlic knots are really garlicy too. Also depending who is serving you, you might have to deal with a bit of an attitude. This place can be a gold mine for some and horrible for others. I’m on the fence but considering I live across the street, I don’t mind eating here once a month.

Ok so to clear things up its more of a 3.5 Being as how my girlfriend lives a block away I pass by this place all the time. All the time being several times a week. Problem is I’m always driving passed it. The other day a miracle happened as I was finally passing by it on foot because my friend needed escorting to a school in the neighborhood. Of course I wasn’t going to give up the oppertunity to walk in! Especially when she offered to buy me lunch for my escorting services =D So when we got inside I went to the restroom first thing. Did my business and noticed that it was actually a pretty clean and well maintained restroom. Came back out to see that my friend ordered a vege slice and garlic knots. The vege slice looked delicious. It was loaded with so much ingredients that just looking at it would make your mouth water. The taste however, was a bit disappointing. I must agree with the past reviews stating that the slices at Moon Pie are a bit on the bland side. It didn’t taste quite as well as it looked and smelled. Moving on to the garlic knots, these things were to die for. You have not had a garlic knot until you’ve had one of Moon Pie’s garlic knots. They will seriously knot your socks off. I have never in my life found a garlic knot in a pizzaria that had so much garlic flavor packed into each bite. To be honest I was already a bit full from eating a bit before I met up with my friend. But one bite of those garlic knots and I couldn’t put them down. I joked that after eating them you could probably smell me from a mile away; and I was only half joking. They were delicious and garlicky and salty and greasy. That is how a garlic knot should be made! My recommendations: Go for the garlic knots. Try the pizza but be prepared to be disappointed if the taste isn’t on par with the looks. Its like going out with a hot girl that’s a complete ditz.

APPARENTLY, this place«had good calzones once.» That must’ve been during the go-go 80’s! The only other pizza I’ve had that comes close to the level of complete disaster by way of dough and cheese was when I was in college, and that was expected because, c’mon, what do people in Hartford know about pizza? I came back recently(I was STARVING!) got a slice, took it to my buddy’s place and doused that effer with what I thought was enough hot sauce to make the slice palatable… I was wrong.

One day my roommate’s girlfriend came home drunk. She brought home a slice from Moon Pie. After a couple bites, she stopped eating it, and asked me if I wanted it. I took one bite, and then threw it away. Question #1: Have you ever seen a drunk person voluntarily give up their pizza? Question #2: Have you ever seen me give up any food at all? And so I never go to Moon Pie.

Never would I ever end up on Avenue C if it wasn’t for a stupid parking spot. After 1 hour of no luck finding parking on a saturday night(quite unusual in my books) and finally parking on Ave D, I was tired, hungry and ready to pull my hair out so me and my girl decided to make a quick stop for pizza before we head to the party. I got the chicken broccoli slice and my friend got the vegetable slice. As specialty pies, it looked fresh and was loaded with toppings. Taste wise, it was so bland even loads of chilli pepper flakes and pepper couldn’t save it. It was perhaps the healthiest pizza slize ive had as the crust was thin and the ingredients were fresh aka non greasy. But it could also easily been the most tasteless slice of pizza i’ve ever had. But if you ever end up on Ave C like me, it wouldnt hurt to stop by. The pizzeria itself is cleaner and nicer than most.

Average for a NY Pizza spot. The place and pizza look better than it tastes. Lots of variety. Decent if you’re in the area but wouldn’t go out of my way to come here. Also the chicken parmigiana are well below average.

Solid spot for a good slice. It’s close to my apartment and $ 2 for a plain slice. Great for quick bite on the way home from work or before going out. Definitely not my favorite pizza in the city, but not bad either.

I live down the block from moon pie so whenever i feel i want pizza its usually the 1st place i go. Pizza isn’t the greatest thing ever but it gets the job done, although its kinda pricey for a slice($ 2.50) and a can of soda($ 1.50). The employees aren’t really friendly and the manager is really straight up with anything he doesn’t like. I was there one time and he kicked out this lady that was complaining about the pizza or something i wasn’t really paying attention lol. If you are around and hungry for pizza then go in.

I just moved in right across the street from Moon Pie, and while I’ve been here for only a few days, I think I’ve spent most of my meals in the new apartment eating sweet sweet Moon pie pizza. They have tons of specialty slices, but I think it is best to stick with cheese or white, though the veggie slices were also great. It’s cute on the inside but not the greatest place to sit for a long time, since the clientele is really transitory. But I think it is the best place in the neighborhood for pizza by the slice.

The garlic knots were small, but great tasting, and the spinach roll I ordered was better than I expected it to be. The staff was friendly and the service quick, I would eat here again if in the area.

Having lived right around the corner for 3 years now, I have had the convenience of being able to choose from around 4 pizza joints within a block of me. About 7 times out of 10(I hate being to repetitious) I will head over to Moon Pie, and not just because it is the closest. I should mention that I only eat cheese and garlic knots, but they are almost always fresh and cooked just shy of being«crisp.» Pizza comes fast, if you want a full pie they kick it out in excellent time and it is easily a 4 out of 5.

3.5 starving. walking. i ate here. 3 p.m. on a sunday. no one around… just two cooks. i ordered some garlic knots(omg amazing) and a slice of the white pizza. i am no ny pizza pro, but it was tasty and crisp and chewy all at the same time. if i was near avenue c again and wanted garlic knots(seriously, they changed my life). i would head over to moonpie.

— my favorite pizza place — not particularly the best atmosphere or service — pie options change daily — recommend chicken, olive, onion, tomato, bacon white slice(not there every day) — along with having your staples: classic, pepperoni, etc they have things that you wouldn’t be able to find elsewhere, like taco pies or nacho pies

great humongo and well priced Greek salad, but kind of dead and creepy inside. It is just a pizza place, but from the outside you would think it would be cool or something.

I wish I liked Moonpie’s pizza because it’s so close to where I live, which is seriously lacking in pizza places, but alas, no dice. Chicken parm hero isn’t bad though. I recommend takeout from Ninos instead.

The best New York-style pizza in the East Village. The sauce is amazing and the toppings are the freshest in the area. Order in or stop by the pizza shop, where they have a bar with three beers on tap.
