My husband and I used to live in Montréal, and we come here once in a while to get poutine. It is actually quite good here — especially the smoked meat poutine. Definitely reminds us of our days in Montréal. They also carry some Canadian beers to go with it. The place is casual, and relaxing. We have also tried other items from the menu and mostly everything is quite tasty.

Listen: it ain’t Katz’s. Katz’s is a religious experience. This is a damn good sandwich. Went here in the evening. Wasn’t crowded, found a seat immediately. I brought a book with me, and my waitress encouraged me to hang out and vibe. Hospitality here is GREAT.(Side note: Chekov doesn’t mix with good vibes.) I had the smoked meat sandwich, and it was about as close to Montréal as you can get on Bond Street, and brought me right back to my time in the Mile End all them snowy miles north. It’s a bit on the smaller side, and a bit expensive, but you’re paying for an exotic treat.

The Reuben was delicious and generous with the corned beef. We also had the chicken salad sandwich and the chicken with the pickled peppers made the sandwich amazing. The poutine wasn’t classic Canadian(made with chicken gravy) but it was still really good. One of the places we ate at while in NY

After spending two days in Toronto, I needed some Montréal — fast. Fortunately, Mile End was on my critical path as I was walking to a meeting on Spring Street. I ordered the smoked meat sandwich and«deluxed» it by adding pickles, slaw and poutine. Now that was a great lunch! Fortunately, my co-conspirator, who ordered a straight smoked meat sandwich without the deluxe stuff, was willing to eat a pickle and a spoonful of the poutine. Yes! I had been to Mile End in Brooklyn, but that was years before. Both places are awesome af.

Just had breakfast. It was delish. Love this place. I recommend the fresh squeezed lemonade and the Mish Mash. Scrambled eggs with bits of hot dogs, sausage and onions. Serbex with toasted rye bread. Super friendly service as well.

Not as great as the Brooklyn location. Tho it was a quiet afternoon, the staff was slow and not so welcoming. I think it comes with the neighborhood. Still it is the perfect place for poutine first timers. And who doesn’t love a Montréal style bagel?

As a frequent attendee on all of the trendy instagram food accounts, I decided to try Mile End after a SoulCycle class — oddly enough after reading of the few reviews preceding me, this seems kind of the norm. I am relieved to know that I am not the only one burning 800 calories to immediately consume 1,500 calories. Obesity concerns aside — the food was quality. To address the other reviewers that compare it to Katz’s — why didn’t you just go a few blocks more east to Katz’s and leave this place alone? Did you forget what the interior of that place looks like? So no, this place does not have Katz level pastrami. It also does not have the interior aesthetic of a Jewish soup kitchen either. At no point did I have any hygienic concerns, or was compelled to look up the restaurant report on . Life is all about give and take. I do highly recommend the poutine — which is Canadian for«disco fries» or «artery clogging deliciousness».

I wish Unilocal had two ratings sometimes. One for how you liked it and second did you think worry what you paid. For a Montréal style deli this place hits the spot. Never been to Katz or Montréal so cannot compare it to the more famous nyc deli or to delis it is copying. I liked smoked meat whether done in deli, southern BBQ or at fancy restaurant. This place does not disappoint as meat was lean and nicely smoked and mustard added flavor without covering up taste of meat. Place is small and definitely nyc prices as sandwiches with sides and two drinks only one which was alcoholic cost 52 before tip. Not sure if worth that much but one can say that about most nyc restaurants. Would not go out of my way to come here but if In area would stop by as would like to see what dinner entrees are like.

Wanted to check this place out because this past Wednesday the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ate here when he visited the UN. It is a small place off Bond St. Although it is call a delicatessen, it is like a restaurant. Set up like one inside. There Is an ordering counter at the back. The Price is no different for take out. I had my dog with me so I ate out at the bench outside. It is a Montréal style deli. So I tried the pastrami. It is $ 15 each so it is not cheap. It is great not as fatty as Katz. It is served on rye bread rather than in a brioche bun like Harry and Ida. The serving size is smaller than Katz or Harry and Ida. So if you want to eat big it is not for you. If you want to go for quality then this is for you.

Definitely was worth the 30 minute walk AFTER a SoulCycle Class! Came for the Poutine after having seen this restaurant on The Food Network. From a Canadian’s perspective, the poutine was on point! The smoked meat was delicious –tender. The duck grilled cheese killed it! Everything was amazing! Also, loved the casual ambiance. I was disappointed that I MISSED Poutine Week(only by 2 days). Had I known, I would of made it out earlier during my trip. I’ll be back! :)

It was a perfect experience. When the owner personally greets you, asks how everything is, served me coffee while waiting… I mean, come on, could it get any better? Food was great. Atmosphere was cozy but not cramped. And the bagels. The bagels. Must go. Thank you for your hospitality and the yummy brunch, Joel!

What an amazing restaurant! I had my husbands surprise birthday here and it was fantastic! The management and staff were so friendly and supportive. The space is clean, bright, and hip. My husband is from Montréal and constantly craves his home food. Mile End knocked it out of the park! If you are looking to experience classic cuisine from Montréal look no further. The poutine is so savory and delicious. Thank you Mile End for helping me to give my husband the best birthday ever — 10 stars if I could :)

Mmmmm Montréal(Black Seed) bagels. Service was incredibly nice– I asked for vegetarian options(as there are not many obvious options) and the server went into detail what they could do for me. Not a huge space but good for a party of 4. Would definitely come back!

Perhaps I should have tried the smoked meat?! The pickles and marinated vegetables were very ordinary,…(if you are used to other Jewish delis I guess the correct word would be tasteless!) the bagel was full on stale. No other word. Stale! At a bagel place? No excuse. Sorry. The lox I had on my bagel was of very good quality. And the servers were so very lovely and personable. That’s the only reason I gave two stars instead of one. I also think the prices are out of this world… even for New York City. Way out of line. The lox and bagel and mixed vegetables was $ 23 total! It was not a good experience. I won’t be returning.

The poutine is what attracted me to this place but the sandwich was the thing that left a lasting impression. The smoked meats were delicious, hence why the sandwiches were so good! The poutine is still worth the try, but at the end of the day, it’s just fries drenched in gravy, sprinkled with some toppings. You must, must, must get a sandwich! After all, the smoked meats here are the focal point! I went on a random Tuesday @6pm and there was literally no one but it started to fill up later. I have a feeling that this place can get pretty packed so I would plan accordingly :)

I don’t think Mile End stacks up favorably against the upper tier of New York delicatessens(or against Schwartz’s), but they make a good sandwich. The smoked meat could be a little fattier, but it’s OK. The poutine and the chopped liver are brighter lights on this menu than the sandwiches, both in terms of execution and value(though the sandwiches are generously-portioned, too). Don’t care for the bagels.

They shouldn’t call themselves a delicatessen. 1. They ran out of corned beef. How do you run out of corned beef?!? 2. To get a pickle with my sandwich I had to pay $ 7 extra to make it «deluxe» which came with fries and slaw which I didn’t want. 3. The matzah ball soup is nothing special. I got 2 small pieces of spongey chicken and a flavorless matzah ball. 4. After telling us they were out of corned beef we asked the waitress for recommendations and she said«umm… The bagels are good» 5. The smoked brisket was dry and tough. This isn’t a top 5 deli. It’s not even a top 50. Go elsewhere.

Very mehh. I had the smoked brisket sandwich, side of chicken liver smear, and side pickles. My girlfriend had the braised brisket sandwich and a side of pickles. Mine first — the flavors were pretty good on the brisket but they gave me dry brisket. It wasn’t strong enough in flavor to hold up through the bread. Decent on its own but rather middle if the road in comparison to many other smoked briskets and the typical comparison of pastrami. Meat gets 2 stars. Though it could have had three or at least 2.5 if it wasn’t so dry because the first time they cooked it, it was probably nearly perfectly cooked. Unfortunately it dried out due to exposure in the refrigerator, or as part of the reheating process. The side of pickles had more or a rubbery snap to than the crisper snap I prefer. Flavor just was meh too. 1 star. The chicken liver smear was bland and the texture was chunky and off putting. Spreading it on the smoked brisket sandwich made the sandwich a bit less dry but didn’t make it worth eating again. 1.5 stars. My girlfriend’s — the braised brisket was chewy. The vinegar flavor was just not good. She didn’t even eat half of a half. That sandwich gets 0 stars. Oh I had coffee, and that was fine. 3 stars.

That was a pretty rockin’ burger I had last night. A pretty pretty pretty damn good burger. Over the summer we ate next door at the French restaurant. I poked my head inside to Mile End Delicatessen and looked at the menu. I actually said this, Damn! On Tuesday nights they have a burger and beer special. Well isn’t that special, lets join the Mile High Club that day. I walk in with my buddies. Its about 7pm and we’re tired and hungry. The nice waitress starts telling us the specials for the day, I politely interrupt her and ask her about the Tuesday special. Oh yes, its our smoked meat burger comes with Poutine and a Labatts beer. I look at my buddies and start cracking up. They’re pitching a bitch: Labatts beers? Like from the 80s Pamala Anderson Labatt Blue beer? And WTF is Poutine? (My wife is French Canadian and I’m pissing myself) Listen you Mets fan freaks! The Mets won in 86, lets have an 80s beer! Oh ok, makes sense. So our beer comes out and we all say cheers. Then the burgers and poutine. Poutine, think of French Fries, a typical American food. Then top them with cheese curds and brown chicken gravy. Me? I’ve grown accustom to poutine but my buddies? ahahahah, they are looking at it and saying WTF! The Smoke Meat Burger to me was a homerun. Topped with both a fried egg and smoked beef, it was a flavor town hit. Juicy and pretty large, anyone who says The Brindle is the best in NYC needs to come over to Mile End Delicatessen. Burger done right son! My buddies dig into their burger and fries. They take a sip of their Labatts beer. Dreams of Pamala Anderson are now in our heads.(Before the plastic surgery and fake tatas) Mile End Delicatessen Manhattan, you made a rocking’ burger and have three new converts. We left a few loonie and toonie and were on our way. à tout à l’heure!

Being from Montréal and having lived in the Mile-End for over 15 years, when I found out about this place I absolutely had to come and try it out! I came here in February 2015, right during their poutine week, but only tried their smoked meat sandwich. I thought that their meat was too thick and not fat and greasy enough to represent what Montréal has to offer. Smoke meat is not a healthy meal and shouldn’t become one. I actually preferred the pastrami sandwich at Katz’s deli on Houston. If you ever come to Montréal, you ahould definitely try Schwartz, The Main deli, and especially Smoke Meat Pete’s, and make your own mind up on who makes the best one. All I can say is that the smoke meat here at Mile End is good but not representative of what we get in Montréal. A lot of other things on their menu I wished I would have tried. Very clean and pretty restaurant.

I think people here take places like this for granted. There are actually none like it on the West Coast. I had to come all the way to NYC to find a place with a decent Montréal smoked meat sandwich. And in this, they didn’t disappoint… I love, love, love smoked meat. And until I went to Mile End I hadn’t had a good version since I left Montréal. This version is good. Don’t get me wrong. It’s not Schwartz’s(because only Schwartz’s is Schwartz’s). But it’s really good– tender and well executed. I gather from the reviews that some think it’s a bit pricey. It’s worth it. Just be thankful you have smoked meat at all. The restaurant was comfortable, bright and clean, which I actually prefer over the old school vibe. The service was brisk and I was in-an-out in no time. I also topped it off with a «Hoyt Dog» which I highly recommend. So if you like smoked meat and you’re in the area, this is your new home. Now go to your home.

Very different than a «typical» NY Deli… but in a good way! This is one of those 3.5−4 Star places, that I’m glad I tried… liked a lot… would return to if I lived in the area… but wouldn’t go out of my way for, nor recommend for someone to seek out. The smoked meat is delicious though wasn’t tender throughout. The bagels are different, but very good in their own way. A lot of flavor in these bagels. The white fish salad is really good, but not at all what you are expecting… think less creamy, more chunky and very specific flavors. You can really taste all of the ingredients. Again, this is a good deli, with a sound reputation for a reason. The service was blah… Effective, but the lady seemed like she didn’t want to be there… Could have just been a bad day. 3.5 Stars

If money is no object this place is excellent. Otherwise, they are charging almost-Katz’s prices for not-quite-Katz’s size stuff. Mostly a sit down place, though take out is fairly quick(less than 10 minutes for 3 sandwiches.) The smoked meat looks delicious. Overall most sandwiches are around $ 15 — It’s really not worth it for what you get. The only reason you might come here is to have deli-style food with good service and seating. If I’d come here to sit down, I’d definitely have gotten the smoked meat poutine, seems mostly worth it to me. But as a takeaway /seamless joint, it feels like a ripoff.

This is a great casual spot for breakfast, lunch or even dinner. I went here for breakfast(around 11am) on Saturday before hitting the gym. The place filled up on tables fast and you have to be there with your full party in order to sit. I loved the food here and will definitely be coming back. RESTAURANTOVERVIEW: –Very casual vibe. –You can sit or you can order take out from the back counter. –Great for Jewish style food(but not limited to) FOOD: –I got the Mish Mash(scrambled eggs, caramelized onions, rye toast w/choice of salami, lox or veggies — i got the salami!) — it was very tasty, and left me satisfied until about 5pm! –My sister and friend both got the Breakfast Sandwich — they both really liked it, but somehow the cook forgot to add the cheese on! They ate it as is anyway and still enjoyed it. –We got french fries for the table — good and crispy! –Side Note: I have been here for take out dinner. I got the Matzo Ball Soup and it is DELICIOUS! SERVICE: –Good! No complaints.

The location was clean, the employees friendly, and the food was tops. I went basic and got the black seed bagel with schmear. It came with onions, tomatoes, and capers on top of the cream cheese. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I’m usually a plain-jane-bagel kind of girl. The bagel was perfection; it was chewy, soft and covered in sesame seeds. I requested no capers and I was so pleasantly surprised. The consistency on the bagel with cream cheese, tomatoes, and onions. I have a hard time finding bagel places who put enough cream cheese on their bagels and holy moly-I know where to go next time. The employees were helpful and entertaining. I will definitely be back!

I came here for dinner on a cold weekday. They were not so busy and I was lucky to not have to wait for a table. I was really hungry and ordered a beer, matzo ball soup, the burger and a order of poutine. The burger and the poutine were really rich. The soup’s broth did not taste like a Jewish grandma’s. I think I set my expectation too high before coming here. I’ve never had poutine before and I don’t think I’m a fan of it. Also, my bill was over $ 30, pretty high for dinner for 1.

Just had Mile End for lunch and couldn’t help but write a review(and risk putting off work). So I got the poutine and the smoked meat sandwich. I wish I had just gotten the smoked meat poutine and just called it a day. I’ve only had poutine a few times when I was in Montréal so I am by no means a poutine connoisseur. However, I liked the Mile End version of poutine. For take out, they give you a small tub of gravy that’s more than enough for the small order of poutine. I didn’t even pour everything in – and there’s really no need to(unless you want swimming fries) because I find the gravy a bit salty. Thankfully, the cheese curds weren’t too salty. Although not a sodium overload, I didn’t find the cheese curds with any taste, so I really wouldn’t know there was cheese if I didn’t look. As for the sandwich, the meat was rather tough. With a $ 15 sandwich, I expected a lot more — in amount of meat, flavor, tenderness — just the whole damn eating experience! I found myself kept comparing to Katz’s Deli. This was NOTHING compared to Katz’s. I could be 300 pounds and have eaten for 5 days straight, and still be chomping away on Katz’s Deli’s brisket. So this extravagant lunch cost me $ 26. While it would’ve cost me more at Katz’s, the quality was not on par with the cost. I will give Mile End another chance, but not anytime soon or with any urgency.

A Lil bit of Montréal in nyc. Great sandwich deli kind of place. Casual with good service. Most come for the poutine but I recommend the cured meats sandwich and the matzo ball soup. The soup was a bit peppery but the matzo was delish. Great on a winter day. The cured meat sandwich was cut thickly sliced. Had a great smokey flavor and the smoke ring was noticeable. Nice bark of spices and went well with the rye bread and mustard.

Pickle plate, always get the pickle plate. I shared the small meat-topped poutine with friends and it was delightful. Of course I wanted more, but by sharing a small I left with delight rather than regret. My sandwich was the Reuben. was that nutmeg in there? Holy smokes, this was good, even if a bit out-of-the-ordinary from your standard«soaked in kraut and dressing» reuben. The beer selection here was solid and ambience was great. We were super lucky to find that the place was empty on a Thursday night; out of the ordinary, I hear. We think it’s because they were advertising a «Family Style Mediterranean Dinner» for $ 35/pp on the sidewalk board. I’m sure this could’ve been good, but it gave the sense the regular menu wasn’t available(untrue) and I didn’t see anyone actually ordering the special. Stick to what you know! We would’ve totally done a family-style meal of meats, pickles, and poutine.
