Ok, we(a group of 4) did not intend on coming here. We actually walked into another place and after being completely ignored, we left. We saw Mexi BBQ and Unilocaled it and saw some of the negative reviews and we kept looking. After working up an appetite at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, we were not walking anymore than we already did. We didn’t see anything else that grabbed our attention that was close by, so we hesitantly came here. The hostess sat us right away. The waitress was very attentive and was great(can’t remember her name but she worked the evening of 8⁄29). I ordered the Mexican burger. 15 – 20 minutes after I finished eating the burger, I realized they gave me the wrong burger. My burger was missing the«Mexican» toppings. I told the waitress and told her the situation. I didn’t want to pay for a burger I didn’t eat. I specifically said I’ll pay for the burger I ate, but I did not want to pay for the Mexican burger. She politely said I will need to speak to the manager and I did. Even though I should have noticed it when it came(he didn’t say or imply that), he completely understood and applied and nice discount to the burger. He was awesome also!!! Service is top notch in this place. Anyway, the burger was very good and everyone else enjoyed their food also. My wife and my cousin’s wife had the ribs and they thoroughly enjoyed it. I will definitely have to try their Mexican burger next time. I enjoyed their regular burger, so the Mexican burger must be amazing. Despite some of the negative reviews on Unilocal,I’m glad we ignored them and came.

Not crowded yet slow and inattentive service. Had all you can eat ribs and it was tough to get refills. Also the ribs were so-so. The food was a overpriced for what it was. Ultimately my wife and i were disappointed. Keep your expectations low and you’ll be fine.

Went here for lunch with a friend and was disappointed… Ordered the fish tacos and couldn’t finish it because of the gross smell from the fish. Ended up taking the fish out which tasted 10x better. I heard good reviews on their margaritas, so ordered it but… oh man. The mango margarita was ok, but the strawberry margarita tasted like straight up syrup. Couldn’t even finish half the glass… Best thing about this place was their chips and dip(which comes free) –___–

Went here last night for drinks and apps– no complaints! Had the Adobe wings and fried pickles — the wings aren’t too spicy and have a good taste to them. And for the pickles you get the whole pickle slice instead of chips like places usually do. I had the white sangria and my boyfriend had a beer, both good. To top it all off they played 90s music. I mean really. Only giving 4 stars because haven’t had the opportunity to try the bigger menu. Would deff go back!

beautiful day to sit out side. Couldn’t tell u what inside even looks like. I had fried Mac n cheese and fried pickle. Boo had Aztec quesadia. Waitress was pleasent and knowledgeable about the food and also the 48 different beer/stouts. I had a lion stout. Similar to dragon(on the sweeter side)… But very tasty. The food came out and the presentation was great. The food was just as satisfying visional as it was to the palate…

I really enjoyed this place! I came here by accident we was actually on our way heading to the bar across the street when this lil gem popped out of no where! Me and my best friend sat outside because we had our pooch with us. one thing I noticed off the bat was the customer service very friendly staff such a pleasant to converse with. The place have huge TV’s for you sports fans and looks quite spacious inside. I also inquired about there happy hour because I am the self proclaimed happy hour papi and low and behold they got emmmmm! lol allday happy hour on Wed and 5 – 7 on weekdays this includes a late option I believe 10:45 until closing but I’m not sure if that time is exactly correct. The happy hour also allots food nom nom nom… So I had the chicken quesadilla and I was soooo pleased great portion matter of fact quite big! and fresh taste! I loved that quesadilla I was mad I let my friend take the left overs… something about the shell of the quesadilla that I really liked… My friend had the chimichingas they change the filling so you have to ask what’s the special Sunday it was chicken. What she received was 4 juicy chicken filled chimichingas that was packed with taste as well! I’m not a tex-mex guru nor have I ever been to California but hey I liked it! The drinks my friend had a beer and I had 2 margaritas, they only sell them on the rocks. I had strawberry and mango I think it was 11 bucks with flavor… It’s in a nice sized cup and they make them strong(I felt the burn and I liked it!) I also enjoyed the flavor of it not overly sweet but not watered down and bitter. One suggestion I will give is on the margaritas the flavoring is kind of thick which causes separation between the alcohol, water from the ice and mixers so I would loosen up my hand when putting the flavoring in. I dislike when my drink starts to curdle I also don’t like thick texture non frozen drinks this might be a just preference specific to me though…

Had the brisket tacos and thought they were pretty trash. For a «BBQ» spot, this place was lackluster. My girlfriend got the quesadilla, wasnt good or bad. Mac and cheese balls wwre meh as well. The one thinh I was really impressed by was the jalapeño and goat cheese corn bread. That was actually really good.

After a night of eating and drinking, a friend and I decided to end our night at MexiBBQ with some more eating and drinking. We showed up a bit past midnight, by which time the place had only a few patrons left. They were only serving from their late-night menu, which still had a decent selection of drunk foods: nachos, tacos, and the like. If you ever find yourself here at midnight, do yourself a favor and do NOT order the pomegranate margarita. It was horrible! I ordered the drink with a salt rim, but the drink ITSELF was SALTY! Not just in a some-of-the-salt-rim-must-have-gotten-into-the-drink sort of way, but it was like some accidentally added a teaspoon of salt INTO the drink. I even had my friend taste it to make sure I wasn’t crazy. We each took a sip and left the drink on the table because it was just that bad. The nachos, thankfully, were pretty good. The portion is small for the price, though. I’ve been to another MexiBBQ location in Astoria before, and the drinks and food were much better there. This location needs to step their game up!

This place is solid. Good happy hour deals every night and decent margaritas, and the food is good for a chain Mexican restaurant. I’ve had a couple things on the menu included the fish tacos and shrimp quesadilla. Both were good. This isn’t really a place to write home about but if you are looking for some decently priced food and drink, it’s not a bad place to pop in.

I’ve been here numerous times, for their New Year’s Eve celebrations, happy hour, and Sunday brunch. Let’s start with happy hour. Decent prices on the house margs and the reduced prices for a limited beer selection. I think the house marg is spot on; not too strong, and just the right amount of sour mix. The bar food options are always tempting, but I know the portions just aren’t huge. If I had to choose one thing to order, it would be the wings. Jumbo, with a great sauce. As for brunch, I was satisfied. We were sat right away(at about 2pm on a Saturday), but then waited about 5 – 10 minutes for the server to arrive. He took our orders, and refilled our drinks(diet Coke, we did not do the AYCD option). Then after that, we waited about 20 – 30 minutes for our entrees to come out. It was explained that there was a large party that ordered at the same time, and the kitchen was backed up. When the food came out, my pulled pork sandwich with fries was great(messy, but the sauce was delicious.). My friend’s salad was decent, but under dressed. The waiter was apologetic, and reduced the overall bill for us, which was a nice touch. What was lacking in service in the beginning was certainly forgotten by the end. To sum up, definitely hit this place up for a happy hour drink or two, but be mindful of a full dining experience.

I’m putting this place on the ‘never coming back again’ list. The quality of food has been going down progressively since they’ve opened, but they are the only BBQ option in the area so we’ve been giving them the benefit of the doubt for probably too long. We came in to have a beer at the bar yesterday and my beer came ¾ beer ¼ foam. When I pointed this out the very rude bartender replied with ‘I am the bar manager and this is not too much head. This is the kind of a pour I expect from my servers’. He then proceeded to put his fingers on the rim of my glass(ewww) to prove to me that it was an appropriate amount. I’ll spare the exchange that followed, but I am shocked by the lack of customer service, borderline inappropriate behavior, arguing with the customer after I clearly closed the topic and inability to pour a beer.

Lapin and I came here for dinner on a Thursday night. The restaurant wasn’t very busy and we were seated very easily even without a reservation. There was a guy who was playing songs off a laptop, which I assume you can make requests. He was a bit loud and so we asked the hostess to sit us away from him. They were training new staff so we had two servers and waiters. It was nice for extra attention but they mixed up orders, didn’t place part of our order, and said they were going to do/take something and never did. We also had to ask several times for someone to clean off the table or even refill the water as no one bothered to check in. To start of the evening, they gave a huge helping of warm tortilla chips with this queso type dip. Lapin ordered a white wine sangria which he liked but he was a bit disappointed the only fruit he had was a small silver of orange. I had ordered a blood orange margarita but my drink tasted more lemony and was quite disgusting. I believe they gave me the wrong drink. I would have asked to take it back but no one ever came by. I did like that wanted to order beer, you can get a free 1 oz beer tasting if you are unsure of what you want. While we were waiting for our order, they gave us a free tasting of a veggie chicken soup. It was okay, not something I would order again personally. But it was a nice gesture. We got an order of spicy crab guac with tortilla chips. It was okay, a bit bland. Lapin and I both ordered the Seafood Grill. It was a generous serving of salmon with 4 grilled shrimp on a bed of wild rice. It was tasty but I feel it was a bit of a small portion for $ 28. We wished they gave us more shrimp as it was the best part of the meal. We ordered a cone of french fries but it never came. When it finally came [after asking five different waiters], it was mostly burnt and we were no longer in the mood for it. For dessert, we shared an order of Tres Leche cake. The cake was presented very cute but it was bland. I had much better tasting tres leche cake before. The vanilla ice cream it came with had bits of ice and was tasteless. Personally, we paid around $ 135 for dinner — while we were full, the food was not tasty enough to visit again. There are definitely better places in NYC. Although, they do have all you can eat ribs on Tuesday for $ 19. Lapin is heavily debating if it is worth it to visit again.

I really enjoyed MexiBBQ. It’s in a super convenient location on 85th and 2nd in the UES, nicely laid out, friendly service and a fun atmosphere. The food is delicious and oh so filling. Our group used a Guilt coupon for 4 entrees, 4 drinks, 2 appetizers, 2 sides AND2 desserts… what a great value that was for SO much food. We were understandably stuffed upon our departure. Their margaritas are refreshingly unique. You can go for the classic, but I absolutely recommend trying one of their spicier options. I’m not a spicy person but I really enjoyed them. For food, of course you need to get the guac. Their brisket tacos are unreal(and huge!)…paired with their sweet creamed corn… YUM. We also all shared their Mexican street corn, which is always a good option. Also, for something that’s usually very simple and nothing to write home about, their complimentary tortilla chips were surprisingly delish. All in all, a solid choice for Mexican food, with a distinct twist.

This place is confusing to me overall. The service was great! The waiters and hostess were all attentive and friendly. I appreciated that. The food menu was extensive and everything looks delish, but I was underwhelmed. I tried the fried chicken burger but it was a bit tasteless. A little disappointing. The ambience is cool. It’s huge inside with a ton of open space and a large bar. I love a good beat, but the music BLARING at 8 pm on a Friday night while the place is packed with people trying to finish a bite is a bit much? Again, love a dj on the turntables, but I’m trying to finish my fried Mac and cheese balls and have a conversation. With a new chef id be back.

I used to be a regular at the MexiBBQ in Astoria, but since moving, this was my first time back, and my first time at this location. The devil corn quesadilla was as delicious as I remember — consistent with the other location. We also had some guacamole and chips. Adam had the turkey enchiladas, and he seemed to enjoy them, but was a bit put off by the spice level. The real star of any meal at MexiBBQ is their creamy red peppery salsa. I would have preferred that to our over-priced, small portion of guacamole. I also had a glass of sangria which was perfectly fruity. The bill was not expensive because both of our drinks(he had a beer) were on happy hour special, so I think the total came just over $ 50 for two drinks, guacamole, and two main meals.

Went here late last night to watch Sunday night football and eat some food. I love this place! Great place to watch a game — tons of TVs– great views especially from the bar. Beer list is fantastic — tons of great beers on tap! I started with a high octane Delirium Tremens and then settled on an equally aggressive double IPA(Knee Deep Hoptastic) —-also on tap— that was SOGOOD. Noshed on the trio of guacamole(I was a huge fan of the crackling’ chicken and crab guacamole) and the homemade habanero sauce(worth the .50 to try!!) Ordered the fish tacos as my main and it was very good(grilled NOT fried mahi mahi), though I think it was rather pricey at $ 14 for two small tacos and nothing but a small slaw on the side. My only gripe in general would be the overall cost. Maybe it’s because I just spent the weekend in Dayton OH for a wedding and realize what the rest of the world pays for good food and drink, but geesh– the bill was $ 80 for 2 rounds of beer for 2 people, an appetizer and a shared entrée(which included two soft tacos). Yikes! However, atmosphere and beer list will make me want to return for future game days if it’s not too crazy crowded.

Look, I’ll admit it. I ended up here after a long day that started with a bottomless brunch.* And then I continued it with what I remember being Mexi BBQ’s solid margaritas. So I might not have been able to see straight, but I do remember that: 1. The guacamole was excellent. 2. The Mexican options trumped the BBQ options. 2. My quesadilla was particularly delicious, as well as pretty(judging by the pictures I discovered on my phone the next day). And that’s all I have to say about that. _____________ *Bottomless in the sense that the cocktails were never-ending, not that it was pantsless. For some reason I always end up alone at every pantsless brunch I plan.

Another new hot spot just opened on the UES! Great beer list! Go Yorkville! That being said I thought this place was just ok but with a little seasoning will be a solid spot for some Mexican inspired eats in my hood. Located in the spot where the old Mustang restaurant used to be the décor had been greatly updated with a chic new look, Edison type lighting, huge flat screen tv’s, plenty of seating, some large communal tables in the side room, and a very nice back patio room that feels as if it’s in another restaurant. Very nice indeed. The service still needs to work out some major kinks. Slow. Our main waiter was ok, and there are guys that serve as runners bringing the food to the table. Yet, there seems to be a disconnect somewhere. The beer list is pretty terrific, but it should not take forevever to actually have one brought to our table. We received our appetizer but no beers. Then waited. And waited. Finally we flagged down our waiter. He apologized then disappeared. When he came back he told us they had none of the pumpkin ales we ordered even though they were some of the featured seasonal beers on the menu. Really? On a Friday night and you’re already out at 7pm? Plus, there seemed to be some confusion about the beer menu. Seems the table next to us also had problems and received the wrong food that was ordered. We settled on a few different beers that were really tasty. Guacamole was good, but not made tableside. Soft shell chicken tacos were filling but lacked real flavor or punch. The chicken torta plate was decent as were the fries. They put a plate of a few large chips that are served a whole crisp tortilla to dip into a pureed mildly spicy salsa on the table to begin with. We must try the wings as they looked delish and a few tables around us had them. As I said the beer list is a standout! 48 on tap! Huge selection and many offered during happy hour at half off. Small house cocktail list with some eclectic concoctions too. Prices are reasonable and judging by the packed house there was not a table empty so this place will do well up here as decent Mexican joints are few and far between. Hopefully, they will get better as time goes on. Another nice addition to the growing food and drink development of the UES/Yorkville area.
