Mephisto

I’ve heard that their shoes are incredibly comfortable and durable, but I’ll probably never know because each and every time I’ve attempted to buy shoes here, they either don’t have any choices of size and/​or they don’t have any choices of color. And the sales people always seem to be at a loss for words, as if the company itself just doesn’t make any other sizes or colors? Dreadful.

Horrible customer service! I was one of two customers and was completely ignored by the salespeople. I approached one and asked for assistance — he did so minimally and grudgingly. This wasn’t a young kid, it was a mature adult who should know how to serve customers. I saw how he treated the other customers — with respect and speed. I deserve the same treatment. I’ll never shop Mephisto again ever, anywhere. It was insulting.

Great customer service and are not pushy, the shoes and their comfort sell themselves. Significantly pricier than other brands but they wear better and last longer in my experience.

They don’t answer the phone ever.
But that’s the only reason for the missing 1 star.
I love the shoes.
It was too bad I couldn’t confirm they had my size and style before trudging up to the store.
But I got lucky.
The young woman at the store was incredibly nice too.

Great shoes. I’m so glad I found this store after buying the first pair of Mephisto shoes 8 years ago in a Macy’s which are now my favorite shoes ever. Best part is the company will re-​sole older shoes with the most recent foam so you can keep enjoying them for many years.
Regarding the store — its a mixed experience. Good stock range, inventory seemed a little light but I may have been unlucky.
There’s a wonderful sales person Paola. Knowledgable, honest, gets to know her customers tastes very quickly and makes great recommendations including letting you know when something doesn’t work. AKA no hard sell.
However the store is let down by another sales person — possible manager who seemed insistent on interrupting Paola’s conversations and hovering (read: odd loitering) to give lectures on shoe size fits for idiots. Weird dude.
Tip for management: Fire the weird guy. Make Paola the manager, as she is what efficient shoppers who don’t have time for shoe fit lectures want from a sales person.

Superlative product, effective and professional staff.
I rarely pay retail but am happy to when an outstanding product is sold with the level of service and professionalism that this place provides.
I own and have recommended Mephistos for years. When my 84 yr. old mom was complaining that her shoes hurt, preventing her from the life extending benefits that walking provides, I immediately brought her here.
The staff was so kind and patience with my Mom who «knew» that there were no shoes for her. After putting on a pair and walking around, she could not believe it — no more pain! I told them to please not let her see the price of the two pairs I got her (she found out afterward and was «mad» at me for spending so uncheck money on shoes!
But, she’s now walking everywhere, calling me daily to thank me.
By the way, I did the same for my father in law, as he had ceased his daily walks due to pain. He now proudly walks 3 – 5 miles a day in his miracle (his words) Mephistos. His only negative comment it «they are ugly» (and I agree), but who cares when the function is so marvelous!

I have always had über-​sensitive feet. Last year I developed very painful heel spurs. There were days when I felt I couldn’t even let my feet hit the ground due to the pain. Then one day I wandered into the Mephisto shoe store near Bloomies. I had the good luck of having Sam, the general manager of the shoe line, help me. I ended up with 2 pairs of shoes that I could actually walk in. Since then, I’ve been back for 3 more pairs and love all of them. My heels have improved enough to actually wear their more stylish shoes with heels. Sam also introduced me to the Mephisto-​brand sock line with padding on the bottom, so my heels and balls of my feet feel more cushioned and less likely to burn. I love having a wardrobe of shoes and boots that are comfortable to walk in all day that actually look good! I highly recommend this shoe store and definitely ask for Sam when you stop by for a no-​pressure experience — he is definitely the «foot whisperer».

What a great experience. I am very overweight and have swollen fat feet, and find it really difficult to find sturdy, comfortable shoes. Thank you Mephisto, you are an answer to prayer. I entered the store late afternoon and after a short wait was so fortunate in that Sam, the GM of Mephisto in New York, served me. He was really knowledgeable and passionate about the shoes, and was extremely professional and patient, insisting that the shoes I was going to buy had to fit and most of all be comfortable. He succeeded on all fronts. I have a bad hip, and my knees and ankles aren’t so good either, but, wearing these shoes was an emotional experience. When I had the right ones on, I felt as though a weight had been lifted from me and I relaxed. Sounds weird, but it was almost spiritual.
These shoes are incredibly comfortable, look great and feel great — worth every cent. They are priced at the higher end of the market, but I have had years of buying cheap shoes and suffering accordingly. I now work on the theory «if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys».
The pain in my hip has eased a tad since wearing the shoes and for that I am grateful.
I heartily recommend to everyone interested in buying great quality and comfortable shoes, that they visit the 3^rd Avenue store.
