Price is good but the cut is pretty sloppy and uneven. My barber there put a couple of really big cuts/​scrapes on my neck that took about a week to heal. He also decided to clip off my facial hair without asking.
The ambiance is cool, with the guys singing along to music but I really can’t recommend it, even at $ 13.

I used to come here because it is very cheap, but was also put off by the fact that they can’t do a good scissors cut and it is kind of dingy. It has a lot of character and I appreciated that, but overall I was pleased when I found a better spot in the area.
Columbia Barber on Bway and 121st (see my review of them:
) is the same price or a few bucks more, has a cleaner shop, and can more consistently do a good scissors cut. If that is more to your taste, I’d suggest them over Melvin & Pat’s.

I love it here — but I only require a simple buzz cut (#2 on the sides, #3 on top, rounded back). I’m in and out in 15 minutes or less and get change back from a $ 20, which is exactly how I like it. Love the music and, sure, the place could use a vacuum but it sure beats the 45−90-minute «stylists» and their $ 50 (or more) tabs with the designer digs and low volume dubstep/​new age-​chill/​smooth jazz in the background. They lose a half-​star for the mess but it doesn’t really bother me. Mambo!

Love this place. Been coming here for years. Great haircuts, for black or white hair types, and everything in between. Also, they listen to Bachata, Salsa, Meringue all day, which is awesome. But the best part is they’re cheap and you never have to make appointments. The wait is never more than 10 mins.

Don’t even bother with this place. They have super poor customer service, the lady on the phone when asked about prices couldn’t get off her butt and ask. She refused to ask on top of that.
