I recently enjoyed my 40th surprise bday party a Mary O’s which was perfect. Food, drinks, service and atmosphere were all top notch as always. Mary’s pub is one of our favorites in the neighborhood. The hospitality can’t be beat. Always warm and welcoming. Thanks Mary!

Great neighborhood bar. If you live in the area you definitely need to come here. Delicious comfort food. Bartenders will know your name and take care of you like family. $ 5 drink specials every night and a great place to celebrate your big night. No d-bags and always chill. Also, bathrooms are super clean because only people who buy drinks get to use it. Much love as a regular.

Mary O’s is fantastic! It’s a gem in the East Village — great for eating and drinking. I had my husband’s 40th birthday party here and it was amazing! Mary took care of everything — from awesome food to great prices, the entire evening was perfect. She went above and beyond to make the evening spectacular. HIGHLY recommend

Mary O’s is my refuge downtown. In Lower Manhattan these days there is the«Over-tweaked«Gastro Pub and the ubiquitous Dive Bar each with it’s unique crowd, food and entertainment and you typically have to choose your mood or choose the place based on how you feel or who you’re with. When I’m at Mary O’s I am allowed to be myself and I am ALWAYS satisfied with who I am. There is an ambiance of comfort and style always enabling the emotional«shift» I require. The drinks are for real and I’ve never stumped the bartender. I have still not succeeded in replicating the mysterious glaze coating her Chicken Tenders. The Burger there is excellent. The Chicken Curry and Shepherd’s Pie delude me in to thinking I’m on the other side of the Atlantic. I drool when a plate of Fish and Chips passes by. I believe in their kitchen On any night you can be entertained by the interesting and eclectic downtown talent who have begun to flock there because they’ve become aware of what a great Host Mary is. There’s a Grand Piano and a sound system that is never grating, just part of the mood. The mood is «Feeling» and I always feel good when I am at Mary O’s.

Mary is the quintessential hostess. The place is spotless, the burgers, pot pies, salads fish and chips, and chicken curry are excellent. As are her beers and cocktails. The prices are modest and there’s live music several nights a week. Mary O’s is a great neighborhood place.

PmMary O’s is the best new restaurant in NYC. Located in the East Village, Mary O’Halloran puts a new twist on traditional Irish Pub. She serves traditional Irish comfort food such as shepherds pie, and fish &chips. I had the baked Cajun salmon filet with citrus butter, carrotarsnip purée, homemade mashed was cooked exactly the way I asked. My husband had the 14 Oz NY sirloin cooked perfectly. I am a returning customer, and had delicious steamed market vegetables with tomato and lentil couscous. Mary also bakes fresh homemade scones which are the best I’ve ever eaten. Sometimes you will see Mary herself running the bar, but always has time to greet you, chat, and make sure you have a perfect dining experience. I also had my retirement party at Mary O’s. Mary went out of her way to make sure the party was perfect. I am also planning another party at Mary’s restaurant in April.

Mary O’s put on a great spread today for rugby fans. Had an amazing family friendly authentic Irish breakfast with all the trimmings while watching the USA Eagles Vs Scotland. This is a special place — wish I lived closer! Anne S.

This place gets a solid three stars from me. It’s not the worse but it’s certainly not the best. The chicken tenders and caesar salad were both decent. The waitress/bartender was nice. Unfortunately, the overall feel of Mary O’s didn’t feel«Irish Pub-ish» at all to me. It felt like they’re trying to be more of an upscale lounge/restaurant minus a few essentials, such as quality furniture. Again, nothing really bad about this place, just nothing so great that would make me return.

Authentic Irish charm and chat — my «local» when I’m in New York! Always guaranteed good drinks and great food. A very chill, approachable vibe which can be hard to find in NYC, let alone in the East Village — Mary O’s consistently attracts a respectful, friendly crowd.

From the moment I walked into Mary O’s, I knew it was a real gem. The warm, laid back atmosphere and the lovely bartenders made me feel right at home. My first visit to Mary O’s was to scout the place as a venue for my best friend’s bridal shower. After reading great reviews, the Father of the Bride and I stopped by for a pint and to scope the place out. Within a short time, Mary O herself came to the bar and answered all of our questions over a few beers. In terms of a venue to host a private party in the heart of New York City(without breaking the bank), you can’t beat Mary O’s. The prices were reasonable, the food and drinks delicious, the space cozy and intimate(and didn’t really need any decorations!). Mary and her team were a complete joy to work with and really went the extra mile to make our Bride-to-Be and her guests feel special during our celebration. Thank you Mary O, and your incredible team, for making my best friend’s bridal shower an unforgettable day!

Stopped in with a friend on a Sunday evening after having a couple beers down the street. We would have walked right past Mary O’s if it weren’t for the sandwich board outside advertising $ 5 white sangrias and blueberry mojitos. I ordered the sangria first, and it tasted very weak. Nice flavorful fruit, but I tasted very little wine. And there was far too much ice in the glass. The blueberry mojitos were DELICIOUS, though. One again, a little weak, but still really good. Very refreshing on a hot summer night. There were only 2 other people in the bar, which struck me as odd, especially since Mary O’s serves food. The blonde bartender was very nice and friendly, chatting with my friend about movies. There wasn’t one standout thing about this place that would keep me coming back. Good for a quick drink if you’re in the area, but that seems to be about it.

Recently I was a guest at a 40th birthday brunch at MaryO’s. I loved it. The atmosphere was so great, the food was delicious and the host MaryO was so accommodating. Last Sunday I returned to MaryO’s to host my sister’s baby shower. It was just perfect. MaryO has this amazing way about her. She was the only one who could get my 84 year-old aunt to drink a cup of Irish tea after 3 gin and tonics. Her Irish scones really complimented the food. We all had the best time ever!

After all the great reviews about Mary O’s I was pretty surprised to walk in on a Saturday night to find this place completely empty. I’m not exaggerating, and that should have been a huge red flag. It was raining outside, so I thought maybe people were just staying in. How naïve… The 2 bartenders, who double as waitstaff, were very nice and overall the service was great. Honestly, if it weren’t that would be insane considering we were the only 2 people in there for nearly the entire time. The décor was rather confusing. It was 1⁄3 Irish pub, 1⁄3 modern bistro, 1⁄3 gay bar. The outside makes the place look very pub-like, but the second you walk in and see dark tufted booths, and tables with flowers and candles it’s obvious this place is having some identity issues. I’m assuming the gay vibe isn’t there all the time, and was just because it was pride weekend — but there was a grand piano and an overwhelming amount of rainbow happening. The East Village needs a good gay bar, but please don’t let this be it. Drinks were fine, I ordered one of their draught ciders and my wife got some concoction of flavored alcohol that the bartender came up with. My wife’s drink tasted sort of like bubblegum and was very pink. Not my cup of tea, but if that’s your thing… The food is where everything really went to hell. I ordered the fish and chips, and my wife ordered the veggie pot pie. Now, I want you to picture what a pot pie looks like in your mind. The word ‘pie’ insists there be some sort of crust and some sort of filling. Neither of those things were really there. No crust — absolutely none. Ok, maybe if the veggies are great I could overlook that. Veggies were kind of weird. An amalgamation of whatever veggies were on hand with about a pound of butter. No potatoes, which typically contribute to the creamy consistency of a pot pie filling. The menu said«carrot and parsnip mash», and while there were definitely carrots and parsnips there neither one was mashed. The veggies didn’t taste bad per se, it just wasn’t anything close to a veggie pot pie. The fish and chips was a major disappointment. As soon as they came out I was instantly filled with regret about all of the poor choices I made that led me to Mary O’s. The fish and chips are made from frozen, which is an instant fail. The breading was soggy and thick, when I pulled it back I found a perfectly rectangular piece of mystery white fish inside. It tasted a bit like eating a fish stick, but with soggier breading. I tried to eat some of it, because I was pretty hungry but really had to fight through the crushing disappointment to get a few bites down. Everything needed seasoning — bland is an understatement. If, at the end of the night, my bill was like $ 35 I would give this place 3 stars, because in that case I got what I paid for. Alas, Mary O must have some student loans she’s trying to pay down and as such there is a $ 3 up-charge for anything deemed a martini in addition to the $ 10+ charge for the actual alcohol. Not sure about you, but where I come from a martini cannot be neon pink and taste like bubblegum. Also, if you’re going to charge me $ 7 for a draught don’t fill the glass with ice. Great location, great waitstaff, terrible everything else. So sad…

Mary O’s is my FAVORITE Irish pub in New York City! It’s like«going home» for a meal when you walk into this venue! It’s spacious, with lots of seating and a big bar, but finds a way to stay cozy and inviting! The owner herself will serve you a delicious plate and the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating and fast. The menu always features new specials and fresh options! The bar is stocked with any spirit you can imagine! It’s a treat to sit for a meal or just pop in for a drink. Great, hardworking people serving delicious homemade meals!

Really lovely Irish atmosphere. The food is good, but the best part was the live Irish music. The musicians played beautifully and it was fun to watch!

Not sure what happened to this place. Visited in spring and enjoyed myself. Went back this past weekend — not so much. Straight from jump, Guinness was flat. That should have been a sign, but I unfortunately plowed ahead and ordered a dinner. Burger over cooked(chips were decent). Was only one there eating at 9:30 on a Saturday night, 4⁄5 people at the bar, basically empty. Good looking pub, well furnished, nicely decorated for the holidays — but overall experience lacking. I hope they turn this place around, but I can’t see coming back to find out.

–Fairly priced drinks as far as comparing the price to similar places. –Curry chicken was super delicious. –Doesn’t feel like it’s trying to hard to be something it’s not — comfortable ambiance. –Would come again to try the rest of the menu. –Sometimes the music choices in here are like«ehhhhh *shrugs*» but sit in the back where it’s quieter. But theres a super bomb-ass session here at 9 pm on Tuesdays, apparently.

It’s like 90 degrees out and I’m working outside this establishment, I became parched so I stepped inside and asked if the bartender could politely fill my Captain America water bottle with some ice water. The person working looked astonished that I would ever ask such a selfish question. She explained«Well I pay for water, so you’re going to have to pay me for it.» Which is not only illegal in this city, but also unnecessarily rude to a potential costumer. I would never recommend this place to even the worst of my enemies. Though the Mexican place down the block I’d highly recommend, because they had the common decency to fill my Captain America water bottle for me. Muchos Gracias. The place looked like it exclusively served stuck up, yuppie, 50+ year olds depression fuel anyway. Good luck with your tap water sales.

So I have given this place a chance… at least 3. I am beginning to think this must be a money laundering operation since they basically do not care. The service is horrendous. The bar staff is always preoccupied gabbing with the friend at the other end of the bar or on the telephone and act like they are doing a favor serving the customers. It’s clear no one cares about the out of date décor, crappy service and blaring music from 1999. Do you like U2 and Bruce Springsteen? Are you from the suburbs? The music is terrible the service is entirely slow and they close at 12 pm! I just did some research– apparently this establishment is owned by ROLORESTLLC is in the hole 33 thousand with the IRS — as of July 2014. No wonder they don’t care!!!
