Decent muffuletta. All the right ingredients, textures, and flavors are there. Expensive though for what you get which is a smallish sandwich relatively light on the meat by both NYC and NoLa standards. Par for the course at The Penny though. Sort of a tourist trap masquerading as an indoor Smorgasburg or whatever. I hate working in this neighborhood!!!

I had the meatball, escarole, mozzarella sandwich and winter squash soup combo for a little over 16 bucks. It was delicious. The staff was welcoming and quick. It’s a bit expensive for lunch, and finding a seat can be hard, but overall it was a great experience.

2nd time back today… I hear they are getting The Pennsy is getting their liquor license this week! Going to be a great spot. Decided because of the cold weather to grab a soup and sandwich from Mario by Mary. Absolutely hit the spot. I got the combo, Eggplant Nonna with the Chicken & Kale soup. I didn’t have to wait long even though there was a good size line. Sandwich was great, bread was crispy and the eggplant tasted fresh. Love the use of the creamy ricotta cheese… nice touch. What was real nice about the experience was the staff. Smiles from the young women that took my order to the guy that handed me my bag of goodies… no joke makes the food taste even better. Recommendation… Grab an espresso chocolate chip cookie… just get one. trust me.

Situated in the Pennsy you find this food stall associated with Mario Batali. Nice quick service and fresh ingredients. They have great combo deals with soup and sammie. The combo also came with a nicely grilled fresh veggie salad. My go to was the great grilled cheese that has Fontina, Gruyère with Otto Black Truffle Honey. Grilled perfectly and all the honey and cheeses mixed together well. The soup on hand today was the squash and parsnip soup. Hot and full of flavor. Great for a cold day. Soups vary daily. Definitely a great place for a bite to eat and a good place for the corporate crowd and commuters for lunch as it’s right by MSG and Penn Station.
