Great little coffee shop. Walter made me one of the best flat whites I’ve ever had. Smooth, caramely flavor and absolutely zero bitterness. Next time, I’d like to also try the donuts, but was told to get there early since they sell out quickly.

Friday, 5:45PM. Quickie: + Drink quality — Hygiene + Customer service — Turnaround + Menu variety And then??? Madman seems like it would be a good place to get work done. ********** Got my drank on: 1. Sarabella + Cinnamon and honey make a good combo. Constructive comments: *Compost options *Source ingredients

Café Grumpy was closed for a film shoot(??) so I decided to check this place out. I walked in ten minutes before«close» — the door was open, people inside — and asked if they were still open. No response. I asked again, «Are you closed?» to which the barista glared at me and grunted assent. Look, it’s fine that you close early, but if you can’t even give a monosyllabic response to a simple question… I usually have a policy of not rating a place I haven’t really experienced, so I’ll give a star in consolation. Going to Culture instead.

This place is nice and small. There isn’t much interior seating but it feels very homey. They offer a wide range of coffees and baked goods. Like most non-chain coffee places, it’s a bit overpriced. However, they do give a 10% student discount with a student ID. I ordered the Madmanccino, which was simply delicious. It was a cocoa powder, cinnamon, and chai cappuccino — such a great combination. The drink was perfect for this cold day.

Nice place for coffee and breakfast when super early to work. And turns out this location has quiches! Hadn’t had one in years and I was quite glad the ham quiche was a breakfast option. That, and a Café Americano, and I was set for the day!

Another 5 star coffee in NYC. Nice, strong but smooth flat white. Was here just after Christmas day so not busy. Server is more courteous than the guys at Culture 36(but I prefer their coffee slightly more). Worth a visit.

Great little coffee shop in a sea of crap just north of Penn Station. They have Dough donuts and some small quiches but not much in the way of food. The madmanccino is a delicious blend of coffee, cinnamon and mocha. If you find yourself with 15 mins to kill before your train skip Starbucks and pop over here.

Good third wave espresso in a part of town with not many good espresso options. Easy to miss from the street because there’s no signage.

Had the madmanccino with almond milk the other day and loved it. Staff is so nice, price is average, but the taste is great! I’ve been to their other locatiosn too, trying a new coffee at each place, and it just gets better and better. Each one also seems to get their pastries from a different bakery in town. I’m not really a coffee person and can never finish a full cup(not even a small) but I always down the Madman Espresso coffees. You have to try this place.

Delightful small but very fully featured coffee shop in the shadows of Penn Station but known by a loyal cadre thus not overwhelmed. The menu is simple, lean, does a few things well not everything & has a right-sized amount of snacks to compliment. Storefront is very small & narrow thus easy-to-miss.

Plain and simple, place makes a phenomenal shot of espresso. That should be all you need to know about a coffee shop.

This is where I usually get my caffeine fix when I’m at work. The service is always friendly and quick which I love, I’m usually in and out in less than 10 minutes. Soy mocha is usually what I get. It’s smooth and the chocolate is not overpowering or too sweet like some coffee shops. I also love that they accept the CUPS app(you can use my code TMYP8 for $ 10 off).

I woke up earlier than I normally do on a Saturday morning with the urge to do one of two things: head to the Jersey shore or embark on an adventure in the city. I chose the latter. On the bus ride in, I noticed I was very groggy, dozing in and out in the Lincoln Tunnel. I figured the best way to start the day would be with some NYC coffee. Unilocal pointed me in the direction of Ramini café. I was disappointed to see it had closed 30 minutes earlier than their listed closing time. Luckily, Madman Espresso was only another block away. I had almost walked right past the place as it had no sign! That’s about as hipster as a café can get so I was already very intrigued. I walked in and saw it wasn’t terribly spacious or small. I walked straight to the counter and my eyes were immediately drawn to the Madmanccino. Anyone who’s read my reviews knows I ALWAYS get self-titled menu items. I can’t recall everything that was in it, but I remember it containing chai, cinnamon, and chocolate. It was damn good and did exactly what I hoped, woke me up for what would be a very fun day!

I wanted to like it so badly but there’s just too much going on. I got one of the specials with espresso, honey milk, cinnamon… something with way too much. The flavors in my coffee did not work well together and it was over five dollars. Not exactly how I was down to start my day. The cold brew is all right… definitely one of the better ones in the mid 30s. The chai, on the other hand, has waaay too much milk in it. I do not recommend getting it. The service was always nice. I never felt rushed if I had difficulties finding my wallet(well… from the people working there) and they always had a friendly demeanor… but it’s not enough to compensate for average(or slightly confusing) coffee. I’d rather head over to Gregory’s if I’m in the Harold Square area.

Love this coffee shop. It’s really small and there are a couple of seats, but it seems that most of their clients are in and out. Their service is really quick and friendly. I’ve never had to wait in a line too long. Check out their Red Eye if you need a pick me up!

Delicious coffee, uberfriendly service, long lines during midday rush but manageable at other times. Nice tables and space to meet or work for a relatively small space. Delicious coffee. Really great coldbrew. Worth a stop in for sure, as often as you need a dose of caffeine.

For a long time, the only options for coffee in this neighborhood were acidic, stale deli coffee or something from one of the dueling Starbucks at opposite ends of the same block. Then, a bunch of cute, really good espresso places popped up. They all have that now-familiar aesthetic: minimal, simple design elements, lots of chrome and wood, beautifully scripted chalkboard menus, serious craft baristas, and good coffee with lots of attention to different brewing processes. In midtown, they are mostly grab and go spots catering to commuters and office dwellers. Madman distinguishes itself among the bunch with a bit more seating than the others(a few two tops and a large wooden table). I had a perfectly foamy cappuccino with lovely latte art(but not the best I’ve had, or it would be 5 stars). The music was good and at a respectable volume. Since this isn’t a neighborhood where people camp out all day with a laptop, it was great for a longer meeting with a colleague from out of town.

Good, strong coffee. No hipsters, douchebags or snobs. Small menu with an even smaller selection of food. Enjoyed my cortado to the last smidgen of a drop.

FINALLY, a coffee shop right by my office that isn’t Starbucks. Thank you, coffee gods. Pros: Convenient Nice Employees Delicious Coffee Decent amount of Seating Cons: Expensive Got a teeny tiny latte for $ 5. If it was a smidge larger, I wouldn’t have minded. Maybe I’ll go for regular iced coffee next time.
