Really enjoyed the food here! French onion soup, sausage and mashed potatoes, and lamb burger were all delicious. The service was not that great. I would be back to eat again but won’t expect amazing service.

I wouldn’t rush here for a meal during daytime, as L’Express is slightly above average when it comes to meal quality and flavor, but easily beats the competition when it comes to menu variety among its late-night restaurant peers. Food here is about 3.5−4, but I’m really rounding up because it’s open 24⁄7. I came here twice a few years ago and was blown away by the lamb burger(so much so that I actually had a first date here). Coming back recently, however, I found that it didn’t live up to my expectations. The burger simply wasn’t as juicy as I remembered, and at $ 20 was way too expensive considering the topping selection was limited to just standard onion, lettuce, and tomato(the cook forgot to put cheese on my burger, but I was hungry and didn’t want to make a fuss about it). You’re better served eating a burger at that price point at Bareburger. The French onion soup didn’t impress me that much. Yes, it’s got your standard melted cheese and moist bread combo, but I didn’t pack as much deep onion flavor as I would have liked. The onions were finely diced, meaning I didn’t get that texture component either. At $ 10, it’s not exactly a bargain, but not all that expensive either. Bookmark L’Express and come here after a night of partying if you want a late night sit-down experience that’s still prompt service-wise, but there are better French places worth checking out in the daytime.

If I had gone to dinner at a normal hour I’d probably give this place 3 stars but considering it’s open late every night of the week I’m giving it 4 stars. Considering normal late night options(burritos, pizza, etc), this is a nice change of pace. I’ve had better steak frites, but I’ve never had better steak frites at 11pm. Went to the restaurant after a late flight in after a long week of travel and came upon it after everywhere else we went was either close or had shifted to a late night menu of nothing but fried food. Solid beer selection available as well with plenty of big bottles(Saison Dupont, yes please). Doubt I’d go when during a time where there are plenty of other options, but I’m sure I’ll be back for late night dinner again.

This place is great for a no frills Steak Frittes meal. The steak is always cooked perfectly to temp. The quality of meat was quite good, although a bit fatty. Frittes are always tasty!

Omelets are always good here, never had a bad bite. For dinner I would go with the salmon din din. Wilted spinach and side of pilaf rice always a crisp option. The sauce it’s topped with is not my favorite. The bar is unpredictable from my experience. Full of characters, sometimes ones you don’t wish to speak to. But that’s why they got a great bartender who knows their drinks. If your going for din I would stay in the booths for a more intimate moment. Beat of all Open 24⁄7!!!

You will find food this good in the middle of the night at very few places, but it is delicious regardless of what the time of day is. I’ve been here three times with my boyfriend. The first two times, I got the steak frites, which comes with fries. It was done perfectly to my preferred medium. Whatever sauce or gravy they put on it is amazing also. Tip: get the garlic aioli to dip your fries in, you won’t regret it, in spite of an upcharge. On my most recent visit, I got the pork herb sausage, which comes with mashed potatoes, and is also covered in a delicious brown gravy/sauce. I can’t decide which dish I like better. I could probably eat both in one sitting and still crave more. I don’t have the most sophisticated palate, but I am a rather picky eater, and was extremely satisfied! The service was very good. They are open 24⁄7 and also have a good wine list(I love the Sancerre). My boyfriend and I will definitely continue to come here!

Please don’t go over there, it’s not french at all(ok maybe just the decoration and it depends what…) The taste was really bad(at least the meal I ordered), and it doesn’t seem fresh ingredients. the service didn’t care about me(there was almost nobody and at least 5 waiters), just one drink of water no more, no bread. I asked for bread and I’m still waiting… So please americans or foreigners, as a true french, don’t go in this place if you want to have a great french food experience!

Remember Parisians were staying on the queue over night to get a burger when Burger King opened its first store in Paris few years ago? I should have already learned from that — Never order burger from a French bistro… The salmon burger with pretzel bun is probably the driest combination I have ever had. The coleslaw as side came along tasted weird too. It’s a pity that the only thing with a taste on my plate was the pickle.

This was an old favorite haunt years ago when I lived in Manhattan — stopped in for brunch on a dreary Sunday afternoon and was happy to see it was still the same great spot. Warm and cozy atmosphere(not too crowded over the holiday weekend), relaxed but attentive service. This is a very classic French bistro, and the menu is all traditional bistro comfort food. My friend and I ordered hearty sandwiches on this visit — very tasty, nice and fresh. This is also one of the best 24 hour dining options in NY(for a city that never sleeps, tasty all-hours dining can be frustratingly hard to find). Croque monsieurs, burgers and fries, pancakes, and pain au chocolat are all great choices for an after hours/predawn snack.

Must miss. The food was not worth price Hangar steak was flavorless(how is that possible you ask– hangar steak is such a flavorful cut of meat? I don’t know ask them.) It wasn’t inedible but it was dull and the frites were tasty but soggy. Our waiter bought the Cappuccino with some of it spilling unto the saucer, no bueno. Tasted flat like just a regular cup of coffee with some milk in it. The apricot crème brûlée was just crème brûlée with random chunks of apricot in it, it was good but nothing special. The escargot was fair but not garlicky enough, salad was fresh and tasty. Service was friendly and well paced. I wouldn’t eat here again. Too many better options in NYC.

Great restaurant with a romantic atmosphere and the ease of a Parisian bistro. Soft candlelight lighting at night. The food and drinks were delicious. Our server was amazing and attentive. Not too expensive, but it felt mid level fancy! I will come back to this restaurant!

I’ll preface this review by saying I lived in Paris for 6 years so probably have a fairly standard. I guess I’ll start with the setting; the restaurant itself is very cute and definitely has a french bistro feel. The host was nice and smiley as I’ve come to expect to NYC. I am not entirely sure who was waiting on us, though, since there were two waiters and two different bus boys and a food runner. It got to be a bit confusing and I never knew who to ask for what. That wouldn’t have been such a big deal if I hadn’t gotten an annoyed look from one of them when I asked to have my dessert in the box. Maybe they should color code their uniforms? One of the waiters asked if I wanted any bread for the table. I, pleasantly surprised, said sure. I was starving. I love bread! It never came :) After a pretty awful 7 dollar beer(my fault for thinking anything good or even okay could come after the words ‘grapefruit heffeweizen” were uttered, and so I didn’t take a star off for this) our main courses came out. He seemed to enjoy whatever was across the table, fish I think. My duck breast was much smaller than I’ve ever had, but again, could be because they’re just smaller in the US. It was still only okay, I could have made a better one at home. Mostly fat and drenched in a sweet but rather uninspired sauce. Seemed like pomegranate seeds in corn syrup with red dye. The green beans were amazing for what’s worth. I mean as amazing as green beans are capable of being. For dessert I had tarte tatin which was very good.

24 hour french diner, and probably my favorite French place in NYC. Most of them are really self-important and full of ludicrous patrons, but this place isn’t. Croque madame, French onion soup, steak frites, and roasted chicken(drenched in butter) are truly standouts, plus great deserts. It’s also interesting people-watching, particularly awkward OKC/Tinder-fueled courtship. One peeve: gratuity gets added automatically after midnight, and you definitely notice a dip in service quality. I’m not some cheapo — I tip 20% even for horrible service to protest de facto wage theft of restaurant service staff — but this really removes any incentive to be even mildly attentive.

Always a must have when I’m in the neighborhood. They have a wide range of different types of Mojitos, but I must say my personal favorite is the original. It has just enough kick to get your stress levels lowered! Service is typically fast, I love the décor of this restaurant because it is French based but they don’t go over the top and try and make you feel cheesy about eating there. The food is always hot and comes out pretty quickly. I recommend trying the escargot and the French onion soup! Although I am currently OBSESSED with the warm goat cheese salad! Oui Oui!

Oh L’express. I was introduced to this place by my friend her values good French food, open late, and a good looking crowd. Let’s say L’express is now my adult equivalent of my late night Denny’s adventures when I was in high school. Several times I’ve been here it’s always been after 10pm(usually around 2/3am) and its to have the lamb burger. Please order it. Delicious, large, and comes with fries. Also tried my first escargots here and they were delicious! My friend who had eaten escargot before said they were very good even though she was wary because this is like an upscale French diner! But very good. Drinks are good(wine champagne etc.) I recommend this place for either dinner or an after hours place post going out. Great way to end a night with good food and a cocktail to finish out and impress that person you picked up at the bar or club. It’s good food and not terribly expensive. Check it out!

L’Express is a sweet little bistro that felt as if it was on an anonymous Parisian side street. The tables and chairs, the mirrors the colors, the tile, the menu, the everything… so French, so perfect for the midday rendez-vous. The house duck pâté appetizer came with country toast, mustard, tart and tangy cornichons, olives, fresh tomato, and dressed lettuce. The extremely large triangles of pâté were mildly intimidating, but silky, fatty and delicious. Deffo needed the extras to cut the heaviness. The onion soup was perfect to warm insides and make smiles. The croûton dissolved in the small bowl, but the thick hot cheese stretched adding chew to the smooth broth. We got more pumpkin ravioli than predicted swimming in a light broth and sage. The filling was seriously pumpkin, with all those flavors of the season– spicy, sweet things. The herbal sage brought out the earthiness of the pumpkin. The steak frites rounded out the bistro experience. Char and grill marks drastically contrasted the warm pink meat longing for salt. A tiny dressed salad brightened the heavy meat and perfectly soggy fries, balance. Despite its name and its hours, a lunch at L’Express could be leisurely. It was soulful and buttery, indulgent in a way that is almost effortless and quotidian.

Stopped by L’Express for lunch on a weekday. Was able to sit immediately without a wait, so that’s a plus for a restaurant on park ave in Flatiron. For my meal, I had the grilled salmon fillet which comes with a dijonaise spread. The dish was good but not spectacular. Salmon was cooked well as tasted good, but I’ve just had better salmon dishes overall. The basmati rice and wilted spinach however, were very good. Service was fast and on point. Pretty much expected for restaurants around here serving lunch. We were in and out of there in about 30 minutes. This is a good place to grab lunch or dinner if you’re in the area.
